Thank you all for the answers, I think I’ve figured out my playstyle. keep the discussion going if anyone wants.
I have a guardian, revenant, and a warrior at 80 (mosly because they can share gear). I was wondering what I should boost to 80 with the free collector’s edition. I am torn between my engineer, elementalist, and ranger.
Looking at the raw numbers there isn’t any reason for people to be so critical against revenant anymore.
I think that Zenith explained it well. The Renegade traitline adds fervor so condi Rev using mace + axe will improve its dps. But the traitline doesn’t synergizes itself with torment burn, chill or even venom: it focused on bleeds.
Bleeds are only provided by the shortbow, and any time you swap from mace + axe to any other weapon (including the shortbow) you dps will damatically fall. The shortbow’s only usable skills are the (weak) auto attack and the #5, the rest are expensive gimmicks which also doesn’t work over not flat terrain; it provides no mobility, defensive or utility skills. The F keys do provide weak skills at high energy cost.
So Renegade looks decent for PvE: chose your Mallyx + Shiro (or Jalis) legends, your mace + axe loadup and enhance your dps with the Renegade traitline. But if you were looking to change your playstyle, or you were interested in using Kalla or the shortbow for PvP, WvW roaming or WvW raids you will hit a wall: they just don’t perform.
Bleed seems strange. They need to change everything to poison, and maybe add some torment to an ability or two.
Thank you all for your responses. I still feel I’ll be running with a SB in my condi build, but hopefully they will buff some things from the way people talk. At least my spec is doing ok for now.
Just browse these forums……
Come on, man, I have obviously see the forums. If you have nothing to add to me question, then GTFO. I didn’t just think of the question without doing research, but everything is talking about how SB doesn’t fit right ATM. I have gone through pages before I asked. Real answers over kitten remarks pls. You obviously think I’m lazy because I couldn’t find my answer on the first few pages, google, or reddit, but it is so much lazier to post something as kittenish as that.
I want to know from someone on the PTS if condi rev, running m/a and SB is going to be viable in fractals/dungeons/raids.
I would love it if someone that actually cares about the community, and not just someone who will inevitably complain about a player with a lack of knowledge would give an actual answer, and not just some 12 year old “I’m smarter than everyone, and we should all know everything about this game, even new players,” kitten answer.
Again, I’m just looking for a brief play-style if anyone has one, and thank you
you can get by with carrion gear from trading post as a placeholder. Mace and axe is your main weps, with staff on switch. Eventually youd want to craft weapons and armor with viper stats. You can grind viper accessories from the ls3 maps.
For more details, check out: https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Revenant_-_Condi_DPS
Regarding utility spells, a revenants utilies are locked to the legends you use. A significant change from every other class.
I have always found power to be the better leveling spec for all classes. you can’t take down 20 mobs all at once, but you rarely, if ever, come across that. Power kills faster, and just has the utility you need for fast leveling.
I would suggest going S/S amd either hammer for some range, or a secondary OH axe for a gap closer, and something to pull mobs together while stunning then for a second.
I have always been a fan of melee condi specs, and with the the SB condi focus, I was wondering how a condi rev was going to compete against other classes (PvE). I’m also planning on running the new guardian spec, and continuing to level my warrior for his zerker spec, so I won’t be focusing on a single condi (torment, fire, etc)x but going for an all around condi enchant with viper’s, but rev is looking to be my main as of right now.
I just wanted to know if rev was going to be viable, or if he was just another gimmicky wet noodle until a hopeful balance change.
Thank you for the info from all those testers, and shove off to all the haters.
If there is a problem with holding the jump button, which is quite obviously what you are doing, denial or not, just unequip your back piece for JPs. There are only two ways to deploy your glider, and both have been stated numerous times, you just choose to ignore the facts. I, also, have a problem with holding the jump for too long, from time to time, but I know that is what I’m doing, you just aren’t paying attention to yourself.
There is a mechanic for the “boss” in Bloodstone Fen that ports you up in the air, and requires you to activate your glider. There is no auto deploy.

^^ No, I can’t accept that … because if a player refused to change their spec/build, they STILL had other options to proceed and complete HoT content … by teaming. People get carried ALL the time. Some people I know ONLY team. People must stop ignoring player co-operation as a strategy to complete content, especially in an MMO.
First, I think you are taking this too seriously. The OP stated solo play very strongly, and I only wished to convey a glimmer of hope, for again, solo play. I read the OP and wanted to help him out, that is all. No need for you to accept anything, some people don’t have the ability to play in a group,. If you have to walk away randomly and often, grouping with randoms is pretty much out of the question.
To Ashen, I think you underestimate your ability in this game. You sound to be better than I. I had better gear, and did worse starting out in HoT. I have the majority of things down now, but I still die way more than I should running solo.
All I wanted to do was give the OP hope that things get easier, it seems like people are focusing on certain parts of my post, and picking it apart. Everyone has different situations, and skill levels, and groups aren’t an option for everyone, which is why I assume the OP posted solo in all caps twice.
I have a lot of respect for those who want to help others out, so props for that.
As for running solo if you AFK a lot, I have a lot of people in my guild who have to AFK for one reason or another. That doesn’t mean they can’t run stuff with people it just means they have to find the right people.
I personally help people all the time, some of who are older or have kids or have real life situations and I have no problem hanging out and farming stuff till they get back.
So if you’re in that kind of position and want a tour of any of the HOT zones, feel free to look me up in game.
I may have to take you up on that offer if you were extending that to me as well, lol. I have a new daughter on the way in a week (wife is being induced, so we have a pretty spot on idea when she’ll be here), and I can only imagine the random AFKs in store for me.
Seriously if you’re on a US server, I get great enjoyment out of helping people through the jungle. I’m massively patient with people who have real lives, because I’ve been in that position.
For sure, next time I’m on, I’ll whisper you, or send some mail to you, I haven’t been on a lot lately, got into a 3 week Rift binge, and recently on ESO for the story, and awesome voice acting, along with the fun action, but I like to pop into the GW2 world every now and then.

The biggest problem with HoT was limiting your options for speccing. In the core game, you could build and gear yourself however you wanted. When you enter HoT zones, you have to choose from the tankier side of the spectrum until you learn your class, and the mobs much better. I suggest finding a good defensive build for yourself, and giving it another try. Once you start to fill out you HoT mysteries, get better acquainted with you class, and start to learn the tells from the mobs, you will find yourself able to start speccing a little more the way you like. I run through with GS/LB now, but there are times I switch back to s/sh-sc/f in order to move through certain areas.
I am not a fan of the layout either, and the map doesn’t do much to help with that. You will find areas in all of the zones that seem to be more difficult than others, and learn to navigate around them.
It does get easier after gaining a grasp of how the new zones flow. Push through the tough parts, and maybe just do some grinding to level up your mysteries and Espec. Don’t give up, it does get better.
Also, you have the option to do the new LW stuff, it is much closer to the base game than the hot zones are.
Better late than broken. People tend to forget that.
I bought 25 back when my first toon hit 80. I now see that was pointless. I just wait for the daily awards, and map completion. I do agree they should be removed entirely.
The female heavy armor is modeled after the Monarch butterfly wing. The male version not looking the same is because anet makes male and female armor look dissimilar even when there is no real reason to do so. They could have given males the butterfly motif also but instead they made the male version blander and more generic. imo there’s more reason to update the male version to resemble the female version than there is to remove the butterfly motif completely.
Strongly disagree. There is no need to change the male version (neither imo). You tack on foofy butterflies and my male outfit goes to crap. I didn’t make a viking and go through hours of finding the coolest look (to me) just to have dainty airborne worms added to the shoulder.
It’s barely noticeable on males, but the female version has an actual butterfly on the shoulder. I have the white feather wings on my male, though, so the butt cape isn’t very visible. I also only use the chest, shoulders, and legs, with dragonhunter’s gloves, phalanx boots, and glint’s gaze mask.
I would like the game more if the action camera worked better with ground targeting. There are far too many ground targeted abilities to use awkwardly, either looking at the sky to get to 1200 meters, bouncing back and forth between action and normal camera, or snapping ground targets to the targeted enemy, just to miss half of the time, or more. Tera has the best basic action combat, Imo. Advanced action combat would be more like BDO.
Crafting is slow, but reliable. Guaranteed stats you want, and you can figure out a time line of completion. If you have some gold to spend, you can cut down on the time gated items needed, making much faster.
They really should do something about them so this thread stops popping up. Should just make them tradable on TP as the simplest way to deal with it.
They have done all they need to do. They said the players have gotten their use, and they will do nothing about it. It isnt what players want, but it is the final decision, and was their final action on the subject.
No matter what, people will always make threads about things they want changed, removed, or added, even if 1000 threads already exist, because multiple threads about nothing always means more, right?
No, I disagree with this. I am so tired of people asking for game changes because they don’t like them. Maybe there are people out there that like how these armors look for female characters. Maybe even more that do than don’t. I don’t like everything about this game, but I don’t ask for them to be changed, because maybe someone else likes it. Play the game or don’t, but stop trying to tailor make it for YOUR enjoyment.
I would be happy to see a flame version of the black/white wings, not the hawk/golden wing model. I like the ladder, but they are too rigid for flames.
To see, and understand both sides is diplomatic. To focus on the negative is pessimistic. Looking for the good is optimistic. You only had negative opinions on the topic. You never said anything good about the game. Whether or not you are pessimistic doesn’t matter, only how other perceive you.
“2. More face pack, hairstyles, boobs slider”
Yes yes yes. I am tired of just slightly different hair colors. I wan new hair styles, and new faces would be nice too.
As for the boob sliders… GW2 is far behind other games for making customized characters. Even older games have better character creation.
BDO has an awesome character creation mini game, lol. The different classes are all locked to one template, but you can do so much with it. There is a video on YouTube where someone took a valkyrie (a female character) and made it look like Michael Jackson, dead on. That game is worth it for that reason alone, even if you never log onto your character.
I would love to see new races and classes here, though.
I’ve suggested selling them in both forms, an outfit, and armor skins to be mixed and matched. People want more skins, and these models are already in the game. It would be simple enough, but I doubt they would ever do it, though I don’t know why. I don’t see a lot of people running around at 80 in outfits outside of the new ones in the market.
Are they taking away the ability to dye gear with legendary equipment? I use the same gear set between my 3 heavy armor characters (one of each) and customize the gear without changing the skin every time I switch between the characters by simply changing the colors. There is your dark and light.
I would say most people that don’t play PvP in this game, also do not play PvP in other games. Other, like myself, just don’t find it fun. I’ve given it a fair chance, and even when doing well, I don’t enjoy it. WvW is worse, but I haven’t had fun with world PvP since before they had BGs in WoW, and people were raiding major cities.
I am very surprised a flood of people haven’t posted to sell them. There is an ongoing thread about expensive they are because people are “hoarding” them, because their needs are more important than yours, I guess. Check out the links flesh wound posted, and if you feel like you may want to go for any of those things, keep them, if not, make some gold.
Rift has the best costume game I’ve seen. Every item you collect on every character (restricted by server I’m pretty sure), no armor type restrictions, free changes, purchasable slots to save particular setups, way more options to choose from.
I doubt anet would ever get rid of t charges, because it’s one more thing they can make some money on. Casual players don’t get the amount of free charges as someone competing maps, or anything else that would reward them. I’ve always hated having a cost to changing your appearance. I’m not a fan of outfits, but at least you can change your look for free.
It sounds like you are not targeting the mob you are aiming for. I have the problem every once in a while, but then I notice my target ring isn’t on anything I was planning on attacking. Auto targeting chooses the closest enemy to you, and that doesn’t necessarily mean the closest one in front of you.
I have no problem with my bunker build, an I’m not that great at pvp. That being said, I agree with Moonsinn. I’ve always felt with our low health pool we were more on the support side of the game design. What build are you using?
I haven’t leveled every class to 80 yet, but I haven’t found a class that can’t use abilities as soon as they come off of CD. Thief is the only one I could imagine having to choose between attacking, or pooling for CC breaks, or condi cleanse. If there are choices like that forced on a class, their should be some kind of benefit to it.
I would love to play support revenant. But the tablet just feels a bit clunky.
Either have it stick to the player, or….a compromise: if the tablet is not summoned/rezzed in world, let the effects occur at the player, on the player. Then the choice will be, rezz the tablet and support remote players, or do not rezz it and have the effects occur from the revenant.
Doubt this will happen.
I always thought it should follow you like a pet. The clunky micro managing of the tablet would be gone, and it keeps the Rev in the thick of battle. I spend more time moving that thing around when it’s out than I do using its abilities. I would even settle for a bigger range on it.
You folks might want to scroll up and look at the dates.
Seriously, what is with the forum necromancers. I’ve read a few posts today that haven’t been posted in for “about a year”. Who is going that deep into the posts thinking the conversation is still necessary, lol?
No 3rd party program required to set your heal skill to be automatically used constantly, it’s been in the game since the beginning.
I can’t believe that Anet would put this in; the use of auto-attacking on any ability, and not expect it or even fathom it to be used to AFK farm. The other notion is that they did, and actually don’t care if people AFK farm, which kinda goes against the whole purpose of playing an MMO…
I guess you haven’t played Black Desert yet. That game was pretty popular (when I was playing) and it is an afk fest. You can level everything but your combat without playing the game. Make a loop for horse training, or running with a backpack on to level your endurance. Afk fishing for days. If that game is any kind of indication of future gaming, I’m out.
The basic problem with this entire MC argument is this.
I need MCs more than you do , so you should sell all your hoarded MCs on the TP so that I can get them at a cheaper price.
There are people, irl, that need your hoarded money more than you do. Give it to them. I need your “hoarded” gold more than you, give it to me.
Who is to say who deserves these thing? The fact is, we all have the same opportunities in this game to do the same things, and some may be slower at getting to them. I highly doubt people have been explicitly not selling coins on the market in hopes that one day they would be worth a lot. Being prepared for a possible future need is not hoarding, no matter how you feel about it. You do not deserve my log in rewards more than I do.
This is a casual game for me, I’ll play the same amount with or without the best gear. I only have heavy ascended gear, but I still play my other classes just as much. Maybe you would have nothing more to do, but I’m fairly content with running around on different classes doing meta events. I’m sure I’m not the only one who just likes to play this game for the fun of it.
You make it seem like moving account bound gear between multiple characters is a bad thing. Crafting in this game is pretty boring, Imo, but that’s only my opinion. If they could add some kind of mini game aspect to it, like fable 2 and 3 jobs were, or something to make it more than just having the mats, ascended gear wouldn’t be such a nightmare to think of collecting. Fractals are probably my other toons’ best chance of getting ascended gear, and that isn’t the most reliable way, especially not for a casual player.
I’m pretty sure, even if they introduced legendary everything, the endgame would be the same objective as before ascended/Legendary; map completion, LS, PvP, WvW, skins, raids (now),etc. People won’t stop playing because they have the best gear, because that isn’t the only thing to do on this game. Other than weapon abilities, gear doesn’t even matter in PvP.
I applaud your click bait, sir, lol. I didn’t read past the tldr, but that was enough, really. That was pretty funny.
Seriously, though, I am always glad to hear (or read) about positive things. I am happy for you, and hope good things continue. I also hope the next expansion will bring you back every now and again.
I am not suggesting that players report everyone they see who hasn’t moved; I’m suggesting that it’s sufficient to observe long enough to be suspicious. It’s just not realistic to expect that the average person can tell the difference between “temporarily AFK for ages” and “deliberate AFK farmers.”
All I ask is you be very sure you are reporting, and not temporarily afk players.
Why should I be careful? I do not get paid to investigate, let alone to run a turing test on whether someone is a bot or not. That’s ANet’s job. If I suspect a bot, I’ll report it and let them sort it out.
ANet is simply not going to suspend someone like yourself for going AFK to take care a call of nature, a call of baby, or even a call of the wild. They don’t care about 10-40 minutes here or there; they care about people that do it for hours on end, for days and weeks and months.
So please don’t ask the rest of us to try to guess at the motivations or concerns of owners of seemingly-unattended characters. You won’t be “infracted” because someone reported you.
Very self-serving I see.
And your suggestion isn’t self-serving? You’ve asked someone else to take responsibility for determining that you’re not AFK-farming when all you need to do to prevent that is press [F12] and leave your game in the character select screen.
What you should have gotten from that is don’t go report crazy. It doesn’t seem to difficult to notice the first time you see someone afk and the 100th time.
I’m not sure why you think it’s “going report crazy” — to suspect someone of AFK farming or botting requires some amount of observation. At the point it seems suspicious, I’m recommending that people leave it up to ANet.
Reporting on players that aren’t bots takes resources away from investigating actual bots, making the process take longer to actually ban people.
And how am I to know who is and who isn’t a bot?
There is no need to be defensive about a simple request.
Disagreeing with your recommendation isn’t being defensive. It does sound defensive when it’s not enough to let an argument stand on its merits, and instead claim that one’s interlocutor is “defensive”
Regardless, the request only sounds simple: the fact that someone has become suspicious about the behavior of another character suggests that they’ve already spent time observing. Your suggestion is that the player should continue to observe until they can “prove” something. Since ANet doesn’t accept player “proof” and must investigate regardless, I’m suggesting that players leave it to ANet to sort out.
I’m trying to help out people that need to walk away from time to time, and you by not clogging the report files. I never said you were going report crazy, just to help yourself, and everyone else out by not reporting on every afk player you see. The defensive part was about the overall tone of your posts. It’s a game, you shouldn’t take it this seriously, haha.
(edited by Klowdy.3126)
Why would they give legendaries swappable runes/sigils when they could make you grind out legendary runes and sigils.
That would be cool. Take the current concept of “legendary” and apply it to everything gear related (runes, sigils, armor, weapons, and accessories). It would be a long grind, or a ton of gold to get everything, but once you did, you would be set for all game modes.
A good start, if you don’t mind spending some gems, would be the new LS story. Part 3 is live right now, and I’m pretty sure 1 and 2 are for sale at 200 gems a piece. The HoT maps have had their difficulty nerfed (or I’m getting better, which I doubt, lol), so venturing further, and working on mysteries would be another good route.
I have no input on WvW, unfortunately. I haven’t found any of the experiences I have had to be at all enjoyable, but I have not invested time into learning what to do, or even participating. As far as HoT content goes, I avoid Dragon Stand most of the time (get in a group if you want to be there), and I haven’t finished the final part of the story because it bugged on me twice, and I don’t mind not finishing it.
Really, just running around the maps, gathering mastery points has been most of my activity for the past month (since I’ve come back). Hopefully someone else can help you, and possibly me, on the WvW side of things.
I would love it if they had the option to buy the outfits as armor sets. The outfits are great for leveling, due to gear constantly being updated for leveling, but by the time I get to 80, I’m tired of seeing them. The models are already in the game, they would only need to work out the separation of the pieces. It would be great to mix and match, or even just alter the outfits, like not showing the shoulders, or gloves etc. Make them a separate purchase, label them appropriately so purchase mistakes will be made less (huge letters at the bottom of saying outfit or armor, even though that won’t stop all mistaken purchases), and boom, you tripled the number of armor sets you can buy.
All I ask is you be very sure you are reporting, and not temporarily afk players.

Reporting on players that aren’t bots takes resources away from investigating actual bots, making the process take longer to actually ban people. If anet doesn’t have a report for, say, an entire week, they may push forward the act of banning people. There is no need to be defensive about a simple request. In the long run, it makes the banning process take more time to actually happen.
Your account has to be active (logged on at least once) during the LS events. So for the future LS events, just make sure to log on and you can play it at your convenience. I had to buy season 1, due to a year long break, but at least it was offered in that manner. It could be worse, lol.
I step away from my computer every now and then, and before I do so, I hide in a safe place. You won’t see me doing anything, because I’m not a bot, but I suspect you don’t see the bots you are talking about doing stuff at all times. All I ask is you be very sure you are reporting, and not temporarily afk players.
That said, I really don’t mind them. They don’t affect my game. I haven’t spent a TON of time farming there, but unless they are getting expensive mats, or altering the market in some way, I don’t mind the free boons and heals. Other than the crying about coins being at 1g a piece, I haven’t seen anything about odd market fluctuations or inflations.
Edit for auto correct.
I am actually having more fun with LS3 than I did (am) with HoT. I’ve never been a huge fan of tons of level (height) changes. The water level from Zelda: Ocarina of Time comes to mind, even though most of that game was elevation changes. I feel like I spend more time trying to get to a certain elevation more than actually playing the game. I have been going into the jungle more, recently, to get MPs, trying to fill those out, or to get the 10pt HPs for elite specs for alts. Hopefully the next expansion brings more content like the core game and LSs.
Like Danikat said, if you’re new, play the game first. If not to 80, at least get to 40 on one to get used to the controls and playstyle of the game. The boost isn’t going anywhere.
That said, if you want to boost a boring to level class, go with mesmer. I haven’t leveled one yet, but I haven’t leveled to 80 outside of the heavy armor group yet. I have read many times before that mesmer are fun at endgame content, but not very fun to level. I found warrior to be easy, but boring.
Level an engineer and a revenant naturally, they require a different style of play, but are very fun (imo) to do world content with.
Thanks for the help. I should have specified power, though, wearing marauder’s stats and not having berserker yet seems to pigeonhole me into that. I’m working on getting g some hero points now, but I probably only played about 10 actual levels on this guy. The rest were all tomes, so I didn’t have the chance to pick up HP along the way.
Like the title says, I need a build that doesn’t include berserker, for now. Something for low level fractals and dungeons mostly. I have a full set of marauder’s (with mostly zerker accessories), and a legendary GS, hammer, and LB from my guard/DH, so if I could utilize at least one of those that would be awesome.
I won’t lie, I bought the legendaries. After leveling my blacksmithing and grinding a full set of ascended gear (I have only recently moved from complete solo play), I didn’t feel like waiting for my weaponsmithing to finish leveling to start the slow process (Im working on now, lol).
Any help is appreciated, I am open to any style of play that allows me to help, be it damage or buffs. I’m completely new to warrior group play.
Clipping happens anyway, that is no excuse for the restrictions. Wings clip with every 2h in the game on my sylvari, and shields just make them vanish.
