Yeah see I think she has no access to LA til level 35…. I think any and all portals to LA are off limits. So my only option will be to run her to DR through the whole map. That’s why I was wondering if maybe they had a Wintersday portal or something since they announced players would have to be level 10 to enter, but didn’t state that they had to be human or run the entire way.
Okay….so I don’t know where to put this, so I’m gonna just stick it here. I have a friend who just made their first acct (free account) and is almost level 10. I was gonna help her get to the wintersday stuff but then I realized she’s locked out of Lions Arch til level 35….
I don’t see any ‘portals’ to DR or anything…. is she just out of luck because she made the wrong race? (Norn) I hope that’s not the case. That’s a really bad first impression. “Here’s Wintersday, but you aren’t a human or level 35 so you aren’t invited.”
Edit: Solution has been found, thank you very much for helping me figure this one out for a friend!

Yeah I finally gave up and logged out because it’s acting bricked. Shame too, this is the best fight in the game to me.
While going through the mission “Hearts and Minds” I was in the middle of fighting Blighted Canach and the first time it bugged where Canach wouldn’t drop his shield. Then boss turned invincible, deflecting every attack and Canach just stopped doing his thing.
After I died I retried it and this time Canach dropped his shield but Blighted Canach ‘s HP refused to go down any further when I reflected his grenades. Meanwhile Canach went back to being a vegetable (no pun intended) and wasn’t gonna do anything because BC’s hp wouldn’t go down. I beat this earlier this week on an alt and he was behaving fine so I’m pretty sure I was doing things right.
Noooooo not the Sylvari! I will be very miffed if they kill off Trahearne or Canach and have a big ole ugly cry.
Beat it with a team of 3….it’s a lot easier with other people for the ring of fire, though it’s good if someone is healing or watching out for those who get snagged by aoe…..those who solo’d it have my respect….
This fight is pushing my nerves. I gave up on finishing the achievements last LS because the requirements are getting ridiculous… The average player can’t keep up. Now I’m stuck on a ridiculous ring of fire, all of my armor is gone, not a single repair station in sight, and I’m starting to think I never want to see sand ever again.
Ugh, no. Double eyebrows. No.
The Exotic Crafting and Fractals made me log out for the day. Since the Sept patch I quit playing Neverwinter (which I sunk an insane amount of time into) and came back to GW2 full time. Since the new dailies, which I really want to get on board with, I find myself pulling away from GW2 looking for something new like I did with NW. It seems exclusive, a tad confusing, and frustrating for those of us who haven’t mastered any crafts. If anything I’d rather see a jumping puzzle or something. Maybe this is to lower the cost of exotic items in the trading post, but it’s frustrating for those of us who have exhausted all our gold trying to level these stupid crafts up and the daily is just out of reach.
Ugh, okay I’m so sick of hearing beat downs on PVE players for wanting more to do in a game. I’m fine with the new dailies except the options do seem limited in pve on certain days. Like today, Fractals and Exotics. No time for a fractal, no money to level up anything to craft an exotic, and forgive me for not giving a flying flip about either. I see where the rewards are better. But what really bugs me is how everyone seems to be down on PVE players who don’t want to PVP or WvW but actual pve gameplay options. PVP is not an option for some of us. There are those who just don’t do it. ANY reason to not want to stab someone in the back on a regular basis is a valid reason. In my case, I have hyperthyroidism. My heart can’t handle the adrenaline rushes for things like pvp in any game, period (if you don’t have a health condition, count your blessings because you most likely will one day) so I’m stuck doing pve things, jumping puzzles, Hunting, Gathering, is what I love to do to kill time.
I have done the PVP thing in other games, and can occasionally handle small doses of it but generally, it stresses me out. I don’t feel like getting involved with players who take gaming so seriously they lose all sense of compassion for their fellow gamers. I don’t appreciate being looked down upon because I don’t enjoy stabbing others in the back daily.
I confess…. I dye most everything I can find hot pink, even though I hated the color as a kid.
As burnt out as this last LS made me feel, I’m ready for wintersday. I’m kinda happy I don’t have to think about living story for a while longer…I just hope they take extra time to work out bugs and smooth out the experience before they release it….
I’m not sure about the Dodgy Crowd one, but I agree they need to put Retry Motes with all the boss style battle, because having to restart and redo the entire mission, plus all the unskippable dialogue, just because you were 1sec too late on whacking Vorpp or Togonn summoned a sand pool beneath you is highly frustrating.
This +50. Those missions aren’t fun as is. Redoing them over for these annoying achievements just adds to the tedium/frustration.
THIS…Bump for restart nodes. I don’t know who tests these things for them, but whoever it is they need to get normal human beings to try this crap out. Unless we are the testers… no one wants to sit through that much dialogue all because of a stupid sand trap. It’s not fun, it never will be. It almost made me quit the game, and I say that in all seriousness. It’s like water torture.
Caithe’s story must be so vital that we have to have it memorized. I am really over not being able to skip it. Or at least giving us individual challenge motes to restart certain challenges like the last boss. I had to put the game down because I was too perturbed about having to go through ALL that dialogue over and over again every time I got immobilized in a sandstorm. It quickly makes all of this un-fun. At the end of an achievement I want to feel “wow! I made it.” not “omg I hate them for putting me through that.”
Just attempted this one again and it did the same thing. Round the second time he loses his shield I died after being seen, then rez’d in stealth and was unable to do anything. Everyone just stood around. Tried busting people out by using the panel but it’s not triggering. This place is janky. Asuran technology, figures.
I had this issue too. I made it Vropp and even to the second wave, but there was no way to attack him without agroing the entire room.
Possible spoiler...distract the mini golems, take out the shield generator make sure asura not looking at me and attack vorpp. But nothing pop'd up asking to knock him out like it did on the previous 2 waves.
I will probably try this one again tomorrow and hope that whatever is causing it to bug out has been fixed. The hardest thing about playing it when it first releases is not knowing if it’s a bug or something you missed.
Bloodstone Dust…..just one bite and you’re eating faces. GW2’s bathsalts.
Had this same problem about a half-hour ago. Went into stealth, destroyed the generators, stood right behind him and had nothing but 7 key to work with. No option to punch, slap, tickle, or drop kick. If that’s not the objective it’s not very clear what is.
Neither do I, but it just felt too out of place for me. It’s more of a nitpick, really.
I will say it was a surprise to hear the voice change, and to a notable character. Like it or hate it, it’s definitely a noticeable change. Then again, maybe something came up with the old VA and they had to decline coming back. Stuff happens I guess. She’s definitely more sassy this way.
I’m not convinced this story isn’t bugging out for some people… on my second run through for achievements I was prepared to hit him but there was no option to. Had destroyed the shield generator, wasn’t seen, was right behind him, went to knock him out and….nada. Thinking I did something wrong I repeated 2 or 3 times in a row before I was discovered which pretty much bombed the whole stealth thing. As far as the first playthrough the Asura were a headache but tolerable. I don’t know how I will feel by the time I actually knock this kitten out. And man, I REALLY wanna punch him. Just once. If the game will let me.
By the time I was done gathering the materials needed for luminescent gear I had more than enough crests to buy multiple pieces of armor. They are practically giving Bandit Crests away in the Silverwastes Events. I don’t even bother with the Maze unless I’m in the area. I just defend all the forts and fight where there’s an event going on. RNG has never been good to me in any game, so I would much rather purchase them like they are now.
I kinda felt that we were thrown into the mix pretty hard with Caithe suddenly getting her skills and then praying you will hit hard enough to survive…but once I had the initial panic attack and my adrenaline readjusted she was a lot of fun to play with.
I haven’t started the achievements yet, so before I get burnt out doing them I will say the story started strong, and tapered off til the very unceremonious cliff-hanger. I like where it is going though. So long as they stay on a 2 week format I can put up with it being so short. As for Faolain, her new voice seems to give her a bit more character imho. I dunno, maybe she’s just too stiff in the base game to me, but this is Fao before she turns her back on the Grove so she should have more emotion, even if it’s snark. Lack of accent doesn’t bother me. Accents don’t necessarily make up for acting skill.

I dunno if it’s all that funny to someone it happens to, but just recently I was defending Indigo when all the fireballs or whatever those things are drop and kill everything around you. I thought I was in the clear until I looked up and all this rubble dropped down on my toon and I was buried underneath the falling ‘wall’.
Ugh, more PVP attention. This game has gotten a ton of love for PVP. Can the PVE be explored more soon? This is why we have no expansion, no Cantha, No Tigers. PVE never gets rewarded because PVP gets catered to. You know what? They give money. MONEY. REAL MONEY as a reward for pvp. Play for money. NOW… can I have a TIGER please?
agreed and maybe its just me i sometimes got the feeling i need hurry up and read it ?
The problem might be really that my char is a mute what makes me always feel a little uncomfortable beside Majory which for me is the real leader of the 5
Maybe its time we get to speak again like we did in the personal story
let me dream here short by saying i can choose a Voice out of 4 types which have different personalities … Cool/relaxt , Shy/cute , Wise/ all knowing , Agressive /unpatient
Agreed. I’m missing the voice actors they have for the player characters. I know it’s a pain probably to rehire and revoice for all races and genders just for living story as often as it updates, but c’mon. at least for the ending.. Like the world summit in the grove, would have been cool to hear the character giving their actual speech. I could listen to my Silvari lady talk all day, though honestly I love them all.
I don’t know if it was bugging out, but until yesterday afternoon I wasn’t seeing purple stars either and was forced to run and listen to Logan and his group every.single.time. Yesterday before I rage quit at the Labyrinth I finally saw said ‘purple star’ and was relieved. Now if they would only let us pick up that dang flamethrower again.
As someone who left for about a year for NW and came back in September to play, I think that the living story is great, but what I am hoping to see is more areas opening up, Cantha and Elona storylines, some more skill sets or additional skills, new pets to charm. All this could be done eventually through the living story which is fine for me so long as it’s up for consideration. The exciting part about GW1’s expansions was all the extra cultural flair it brought to the game. Let some Warriors pick up Dervish Skills or Defenders snag some Paragon Skills. Right now it seems that the new living story has shaken up some builds, so people are having to play differently anyway. Perfect time for some new skill trainers. lol
Kill the vine(s) near the boss first. Stability helps but isn’t necessary. You should kill a vibe with a single full blast with the flamethrower the boss should go down with two.
Good to know. lol if it doesn’t I must be doing something wrong.
Thank you, and that makes sense. It’s a bit sad because I prefer PVE and it doesn’t seem like I can utilize much of my skill palette compared to other classes. Still, gotta love all the dramatic flair of the Mesmer. To be fair, I made a Sylvari Mesmer, so maybe that’s why she has trouble holding onto a flamethrower.
I might buy a pack of cigarettes and start smoking again before I finish this thing with the flamethrower on my mesmer. Okay look, I play ranger and ele mostly, so I was determined to master my mesmer with these achievements but even without the challenge my mes gets downed by a tentacle before she can even get close enough to burn the boss. What’s more, is I instantly lose the flamethrower the moment I’m downed, of course there’s no one going to rez her unlike the rest of the instances, and no way to restart the challenge aside from logging out and logging back in. I managed to finish the glowy shoulders crap, why the heck is a stinkin flamethrower making my morning hell?
Also, I’m an adult, I don’t expect this game to be easy or hand things to me, nor do I want ‘that’, but for crying out loud, if you want us to beat it with a flamethrower, can you please let us go and pick it back up or restart the challenge without forcing some of us to ‘rage quit’ to start it over? I mean after a few times of this I actually feel like putting the game down and not fighting for it. For those Mes who already beat the challenge, did you speck power/crit or did you have to build up your toughness to not have the flamethrower fly out of your hands?
TL;DR: Mesmer has butterfingers with flamethrower.
AHH thank you… that make sense.
Is anyone else having trouble with the achievement of beating the facet of darkness from 75% to 0 in less than 15 seconds? I mean..it seems to take 5-10 seconds for the fragile shard things to spawn around him at times. This challenge seems easier than it actually is, which is normally fine by me…except it seems like the fragile things are way too slow spawning to beat solo or with a group. Anyone else getting frustrated by this? How did you beat this challenge? Is it luck?
I solo’d the main quest-line with Elementalist and Ranger, though I gotta admit, the achievements will be hard to solo. Those Mordrem don’t play. Not even sure how I will beat the final guy without the boon breaker…. -_- Could have sworn he was invincible.
Fragile and the other blue-icon effects don’t count as buffs – the achievement is for not transferring any of your own (orange-icon) buffs to the vortexes.
I getcha now. lol well that’s a bit of a relief. Now the only one I will probably continue to have trouble with is keeping Caithe’s party alive. I swear they are all on the ground before I round the corner. When it comes to the Silverwastes, it’s fun to group up in the raid content. As for the achievements, I’m not really sure if everyone gets them in a party. I know I ran through the last story with another player and I had to run it a second time for myself to unlock everything, soooo, that’s why I’m soloing everything ‘story’ based so that I don’t have to worry about not getting it when I run through it with another player.
Ritualist….oh how I miss my GW1 Rt/N. I wonder if it would be better to incorporate the ‘extra classes’ skills into the current ones by giving us extra skills to pick up in an expansion cough I mean living story update, rather than making us roll brand new characters, since the living world content seems to be 80 content anyway…..that being said….I just want to see Ritualist skills around….they were so cool…. and a tiger….who doesn’t want a tiger?
