We will be adding a new currency that is similar to Proof of Heroics that will allow you to buy new sigils, runes, recipes, and hero points from PoF.

There will be a new skirmish chest with the new currency in them.

Will that new chest replace the old ones in a retroactive manner?

All skirmish chests earned before PoF launch will contain Proof of Heroics. All skirmish chests earned after will have the new currency.

Do you mean that the new skirmish chests will contain both currencies, or just the new one? If it is the latter, is there going to be any way to gain Proof of Heroics after the expansion?

I’m actually expecting and okay with this. I don’t think identification in the field is terribly important…though I’d probably buy the gem store item anyway. =P

I never purchase things that can’t even gain their price back from their usage. I will stick to orichalcum mining tools, basic or mystic salvage kits and identify objects at hearts. I guess “convenience tools” make a lot of profit for Anet, judging from the number of people that buy them.

Creating a new mechanic though, just because they want to profit from a gem item to make it easier for players to work around it, seems a little cheap imho. Again!

I keep seeing people say this is the best option they could have done. No, no its not.

The thing people hated about normal gear drops are sigils and runes, simple change have basic/copper fed salvage have 0% change at runes and sigils.

Bags people hated the clicking go back to normal gear drop, which its issues where sold above.

There 80% of inventory management solved, with just a number change, no new mechanic, no going to select npc’s, no money sink. And if they want to help with even more replace trash items with straight coin.

As to why I think they went this route, easy money. The number one item I would guess on BLTC is the copper fed salvage. With this new ID system they can sell another item just like it = profit. Which should say something about their mind set. Create problem/inconvenience, later sell item to solve problem that didn’t need to be created.

So much this! Thank you for pointing the obvious, that so many people intentionally don’t mention.

I would rather just get the loot rather than have to fuss with unidentified stuff. It seems like putting an extra tax on us for loot drops, or more busy work. Someone pointed out that it gets rid of the “bag in a bag” problem, but seems like that could have just been dealt with by giving us another piece or two of loot rather than bags in bags!

I’ll probably just be lazy and salvage them. I haven’t gotten a precursor drop yet, and don’t really expect one ever.

You realize that you are getting among loot exotics with runes/sigils that cost more than 1-3 ectos you may salvage them into right? When you salvage the unidentified gear you don’t even getting the runes/sigirls out of them anymore. Also some skins cost a good amount of gold still. Major gold sink over here.

I’m happy with it. Saves a ton of space and when I salvage them I don’t have to worry about a bunch of useless sigils clogging up my inventory. You guys are acting like this is anti-consumer, but I’d say it’s the exact opposite. You should never feel tempted again to buy extra bag slots and you can play longer without having to go to a vendor.

IMO, the pros vastly out-weigh the cons.

Salvaging a precursor just because of convenience, is what I was praying for all these years. yep!

I was just seeking onfirmation of what I thought I had seen during my time in the demo.

The person I quoted said that they felt salvaging was enough and that they didnt want to have to carry an Id kit. I guess it is confirmed that they do not need to carry an Id kit, and can stick to salvaging.

I identified a bunch a while ago for first time ( I was just salvaging so far) and there were 2 exotics in those. So if you don’t wanna salvage a precursor, I suggest to identify first.

Yes but you may salvage exotics and precursors, as they can hide in the “green unidentified” objects.

Anet at least make them group by rarity. Please! Green objects (for whites, blues, greens) yellow and orange. Please!

Same issue here, tried both clients with no luck. Game freezes whenever I discover something only in the new maps. Vanilla maps work as usual.

Just logged in after the purchase of HoT and game freezes in the new maps and not in any other part of the game, randomly while playing and always when I discover a POI. Tried the 64-bit client as well, same luck.

Well done, best day in 9 weeks, thx to everyone especially the nightshift you kids kept us up there, even when we got double teamed ……….Deso from the 3 day head start, I would never change

I was in deso when it was good and cool. In beta. Kid invasion forced us to go other server in launch.

sfr is cool? You needed to double team to win, you’re nothing special, at least when viz were top they done it themselves

Well well well well you did need mistforged skin hunters help.

Unless you you were hiding under a rock, you would know by now, that this tournament achievement meta was way too easy (unlike the first tournament). Everyone completed it in the first 2 weeks max.

Still, even if we consider that we pulled all the tournament with pve’rs (which is far from truth, especially after the second match) then Desolation pve’rs managed to create the second best WvW server and more importantly relying exclusively in our own force. In any case thank you! I take this as a compliment for Deso!

You have 23 pages of posts. It’s time to get into the game and play it. Those are facts!

Spam? One button, 26 seconds of swiftness while adding 12 stacks of might to the team, with empower, while the symbol ticks on the team.

After 3000 hours in wvw and actually playing with the staff before posting i think you should get into the game and play.

The only time this is a nerf is if you solo and have no second source of swiftness. That is what i know from playing wvw yesterday for 6 hours with the new staff.

If people say this is a straight nerf they are talking about nerfing the way they play it and not that the weapon it self is nerfed. Its a matter of people being really bad att adapting.

23 pages of clueless people is still 23 pages of clueless people, not saying that people are cluelless in general, just saying the quantity of posts say nothing about the quality of those posts.

Your zerg when stacks for battle , doesn’t need swiftness! Don’t drop light fields down and blast for aoe retaliation when people try to gather 25 stacks of might. Your commander is gonna rage at you! Just saying!Makes me wonder who has a clue indeed!

But please continue this practice, unless you play on my server. Feel free to drop down SoS before battle ok?

Change to SoS is bad design

I did find one thing that became better with the change to Symbol of Swiftness;
Dolyak escorting.
It is now a lot easier to stack up numerous seconds of Swiftness on a dolyak, to around a minute. (At least that’s when I stop since they’ll generally take around that long to finish getting anywhere.) Of course, the only reason this works is because dolyaks are so much slower than even a walking player, in the first place.

Otherwise, this is a terrible disservice to the class. This has essentially determined that I choose from one of two sets of superior runes for WvW; Speed or Traveler’s.

So, congratulations, fellow Guardians! We’re the best shepherds, now! >_<

Yuck.. So much whining. I guess not a lot of people saw this coming when the patch preview was posted a month ago.

Actually, we saw it and we provided a lot of feedback regarding especially this specific nerf. Endless pages of requests of not changing the SoS. Dev team, went with the first plan, without considering the feedback though. So why are you jumping to assumptions?

And you didnt have perma swiftness prepatch without those either unless fully focused on boon duration. Forcing 30 points in virtues and 45% boon duration from runes and not even then would you have 100% uptime due to how bad it stacked when reapplied.

The fact is that you can run for longer periods of time now when using shouts or having a secondary source of swiftness in your team..

His point is valid … what is the value in playing in groups that don’t all help each other out? If you aren’t, no buff or different SoS is going to matter. Changes to SoS are actually good because they ENCOURAGE good group behaviour. In otherwords, it separates people that know what to do from people that just mash buttons. It’s a skill-separator.

How did you achieve perma swiftness prepatch?

The only time its worse is in soloplay with no shouts. But why would you use staff in solo play to begin with.-

I use it in wvw. For solo exploration, its just an annoying change that I can live with I guess and use Retreat instead. In WvW I play staff and I have the other useful shouts that are truly needed for group play plus SoJ for extra retaliation and and touch of extra toughness, but ofc not SY. With 20 in Virtues and 2 handed mastery I had a nice 9,6 (or so) seconds swiftness out of 12 seconds recharge. Not perma but quite close. You know you must run from one side to the other occasionally, while re spawning or run to avoid death (or die trying at least). And at that times usually you are in combat and can’t change utilities. Now I have a 4 seconds swiftness, which using it in panic mode, will get me nowhere. You don’t have always a warrior by your side to use his warhorn ya know…

Symbol of Swiftness
To clarify the new Symbol of Swiftness will give you 4 seconds of Swiftness every single pulse regardless of if you have swiftness or not. This is a improvement in many situations and a slight loss in the situation where you were using the Symbol as just a one time buff. I think this makes it feel more like a Symbol, which is good. We are still discussing the idea of it being 5 seconds, but there is some danger of that going pretty high with boon duration.

I like a lot of where you’re going with the Guardian here, but I am a little concerned about the Symbol of Swiftness change. Not as a matter of balance but just as a quality of life issue. 4 seconds of swiftness on a 15 second cooldown is pretty much useless as a means of traveling for a solo Guardian, and the symbol is one of the better ways for Guardians to get around. Having to stop and stand in the symbol to get the full ticks of swiftness while traveling long distance is just going to be counter productive and annoying. And I don’t like the idea that this skill is being balanced around the zerg rather than solo players who probably are only running one source of swiftness to begin with.

Math wise you can now sit in the symbol for 3 seconds with boon duration and end up with 9 seconds of swiftness which is more than you would have had before. I do still think it may need to be 5 seconds to account for the fact that you only get it every second so by the time you get the second one you have lost 1s of the first one.

Math wise it apparently works for your calculations, situation wise its not working at all Jon. If you are chased and want to escape you don’t have the luxury to stand static in top of a symbol not for even 1 second. Unless you want to root the guardians and permit them the ability to escape overall. Why was this skill so important to be “fixed” and why it was broken?

You forget one thing…. people play the game in the way that is most fun for them. The reason you don’t have people defending is because it is boring for most people.

I understand your logic behind this, but lemme get some things straight for you.

I suppose you have played football or basketball in your life. Imagine now, that because its fun to score goals or points all the players of the teams were offensive (because hey its fun and it has glory) and no player was defensive or even a goalkeeper in football. Tell me honestly how sad that game would be. “Hey they scored on us, never mind it guys lets go score again!”

This is exactly what we are doing at the moment in wvw. We just score, without defenders or goalkeepers. It’s not a match anymore, but a rush game of who will score faster than the other, continuously…

I hope it makes sense. And always remember that there are many people out there, including me, who love to defend because we care for the team and not our personal rank and achievements. All commanders should remember that they have defensive players in their teams and use them accordingly for the whole benefit of the server.

I am with OP on this 100%. I can understand that for the past months points didn’t matter at all, but now we are on leagues and points matter. Now is the time to defend and keep those T3 structures for points as long as possible. Heck you just need a scout in every tower (that they can rotate every 15-30 minutes) , some arrow carts to slow down the attackers and correct information on TS or map chat to save it. It’s so simple that makes me wanna pull my hair off. Still nobody cares and thus servers are currently low on score, though having full coverage and ques for hours. Desolation never defends anything anymore! People don’t even bother to refresh siege in Garisson or Valley… We are playing for score points guys! Not achievement points!

Hey everyone,

why we can’t remove the unwanted runes or insignias from wvw armor as we can do with our crafted ones? It’s not like we try to convert Karma or Badges into gold (even though you can convert badges into gold now after the siege weapons are trade able).

I have some runes and insignias in my armor that don’t suit my build anymore and I want to replace them. Even if I have to destroy my armor and buy a new one, we should be able to get back the runes we put in the armors, at the first place.

Does it mean that anything that goes in those armors/weapons is lost for ever? No way I can get em back and use it in some other character or sell them?

My opinion is that I don’t give a kitten what any of you did in GW1 because it’s not something I have any cause to be impressed about in the here and now and more than I have cause to recognize someone’s achievements in any other random game. Nerd raging until the little veins stand out in your neck isn’t going to change my view on that and I’ll still mentally subtract X AP for HoM when I look at someone’s score. Maybe even just to spite you. Who knows! =)

Newsflash: We don’t give a kitten either, whether you are impressed or not about GW1 achievements . We don’t give kitten if you gonna subtract or not imaginary points from scores, to make you feel better! Are we even now?

We wouldn’t bother with HoM if it wasn’t for GW2. It was NOT something we would normally do in the game, as we now get AP by just playing. It was a massive endless grind of things you wouldn’t dare to even imagine!

Fact is, that GW1 players worked their kitten off hard for their achievements and status in GW2 through HoM even before all the rest people learn the news of GW2 release! GW1 players have been working on achievements for GW2 since 2010! For us those games are connected! Accept it already!

The strange thing everyone who brings this ‘problem’ up seems to assume is: “you played GW1 so you automatically have 500 freeby points”…

Hah! I finished all three campaigns and EotN, plus played a few months extra and I’m not even at 20 out of the 50 HoM points. The people kicking up sand assume it’s all kittens and giggles…

Seriously, GW2 players think they know what grind is. Go grind the insane amount of points you need to get reputation titles. Have a look what it takes to grind the weapons and prestige armors needed. Go battle the hard mode dungeons and the realm of Torment.

If you knew what it takes to get those 500 APs, then you’d understand those players earned it. And to compare the effort to gain the 500 AP from HoM to what it takes to get 500 in this game… it’s a joke.

I got the Drunkard title before you could spam it. That was true grinding. =)

Being from desolation and complaining about arrow cars is quite funny. We seem to be some of the biggest hypocrites out there. Last week our night/morning crew raked us a healthy +625. It seems that after fighting vizunah for so long they have rubbed off on us.

that +625 was a server effort and not influenced in any way strongly by AC utilization. Rox from EXG helped us paint deso map green one evening during prime time and yet again the next day around 4:30pm deso pulled a greenwash over deso map + still holding our quarter and SM in EB, this was the community pulling together in the one direction i.e directing more attention to our home map and improving daytime commander presence.

I know the +625 had nothing do with arrow carts, I was merely pointing out we had 15 in our lords room area. I see so many deso players complaining about arrow carts, then I saw that, had to point it out. Then the +625, well i’ve also seen so many deso player complain about PVD and night/morning caping. The point I was trying to make, however unclear it must have been, is that we no longer have the right to complain when the enemy does “cheap” tactics on us, when they seem to be our new favorite method.

Maybe I wasn’t clear enough. Let me try to describe it better, because you were not in that fight apparently. These arrow carts were not defensive, they were offensive. Hills were ours, Viz tried to capp 2 times (including Golem rush), they got wiped in open combat and in their final stand they manage to pass all gates and push us inside. In our final stand in our Lord’s room, because they didn’t want to risk a 3rd wipe in combat, they built many arrow carts outside the entrance, in order to wipe us. They managed it after a while…

I have nothing against defensive arrow carts inside towers or keeps. Its fully understandable trying to protect what is yours. But, that incident on Hills, was really astonishing. We could have won the fight, but lost because of the gazzilion arrow carts, again! Oh well…

I was in the fight at hills on reset, and if you actually look at the picture I linked with that lovely post of mine, you would see it’s not hills I was talking about.

I am referring to you, because you started blaming Deso players for whining about arrow carts and I was the first one that started the conversation. I was obviously talking about something specific (Hills), as the players above me, but you linked a photo of something completely different and out of topic. I hope its clear now.

Being from desolation and complaining about arrow cars is quite funny. We seem to be some of the biggest hypocrites out there. Last week our night/morning crew raked us a healthy +625. It seems that after fighting vizunah for so long they have rubbed off on us.

that +625 was a server effort and not influenced in any way strongly by AC utilization. Rox from EXG helped us paint deso map green one evening during prime time and yet again the next day around 4:30pm deso pulled a greenwash over deso map + still holding our quarter and SM in EB, this was the community pulling together in the one direction i.e directing more attention to our home map and improving daytime commander presence.

Stealth is a kitten mechanic and highly overused in the state of abuse. I don’t mind the stealth of the mesmer (just a small trick from time to time). But perma stealth? Just no! Its not fair for the rest classes. Its not a matter of skill dealing with this mechanic. Its annoying, its trolling and…well its kitten.

I know, unfortunately, that stealth cannot be removed from gameplay, but it is essential to be toned down. This will allow some players to learn how to actually fight instead of hiding for ever :P

So, I agree with the OP, but the reveal should last overall a LOT more.
