The Dynasty Warriors [DW] – Far Shiverpeaks

Not sure if OP is being a hypocrite on purpose, but I’m just gonna throw in a ‘L2P’-card and call it a day. :>

As much as I (used to) like the game; it never has been and it never will.
Clearly a l2p issue on the Chronomancer’s part (^:
When they’re actually dueling – I leave them alone, I’m not that lootbag-obsessed and usually have better things to do.
When it’s some ganker jumping on my teammate who was obviously busy doing something else – I show no mercy
Same issue here. Any clarification? I couldn’t find anything color-related in the patch notes.
I’ve been playing around with mace/shield + sword/torch Mercenary warrior and I found it to be pretty effective vs mesmers. It’s all about knowing when to block/dodge the shatters and popping berserker stance at the right time. If your ’zerker stance is off cooldown you can afford to be patient and wait out their blocks/invulns before you go on a stun/daze-spree.
I think you’ll still have trouble vs mesmers who are actually good though, but the build will probably do just fine vs the average bandwagoner.
(edited by Lethal Stranger.5093)
HoT sales of course!
Good 1v1er/really good ones can even 1v1 condi mesmers with moa
Although I do agree the reaper could use some toning down, I don’t see how this is a bad thing.
Shoutout to the mod team for excellent damage control!
Like Flumek said, no such option. The closest thing you can do is enabling “Fast-Cast Ground Targeting” in the Options, so the wells will insta cast assuming you have the thief on target when he’s next to you. Keep in mind that this will affect your other ground-targeted as well though.
I personally prefer SA, since it allows me to break out of stun without blowing my Plague Signet. “Rise!” is a great skill though and I can see why some people prefer it.
Don’t forget to play a non-meta build and spout passive-aggressive comments in the map chat whenever you spot someone who is running a meta-build!
Also switch server as soon as they start talking back! Hah! That’ll teach ’em!
Be the hero hotjoin deserves!

I went through Ruby without any problems (only lost 2 or 3 matches), maining reaper and swithing to scrapper if we had too many reapers. I’ve seen a lot of dumb things going on though, on both my own and the enemy team. Warriors insta-rushing beast at forest (even though a teammate said not to), people with absolutely no map-awareness whatshowever (my #1 annoyance), being obsessed with 3-capping although the opposing team still posed a threat, or even capping a clear point with 2 players.
Not saying I’m the perfect player myself, because I sometimes do make mistakes, but holy crap, if you don’t get the game mode, please stay out of my queue.
Also keep in mind that even if your team is bad, there’s still the possibility that the opposing team is even worse.
IMO, the biggest problems with DBL:
- Air Keep taking up too much map space and having a confusing layout
- The keep lords have way too much HP and badly-designed abilities (especially the ones at Fire & Air Keep.)
- The waypoint problem
- Unnecessary obstacles throughout the map that serve no purpose other than annoying the player (pulsing cripple around Earth Keep area, the windblowers at Air Keep that launch the player etc.)
- Barriers making it practically unplayable for roamers
Alpine BL had none of these problems.
I don’t mind the canyons and cliffs too much, as long as we get more alternative routes and/or bridges to make them more enjoyable to navigate through.

And nothing of value was lost. Good riddance.
I don’t get the hate behind “meta” builds. This is a game of build adaptation, you build for what’s necessary. All “meta” builds are are shared adaptations. Literally, that’s it, just shared builds proven to work… People can feel free to not share and accept information, but in the end you end up with a sub-par build that doesn’t fit the environment. If you’re fine with that, then okay, but to say “don’t run meta” is simply saying “don’t run well put together builds” which is just silly… o.O
This.
I often run into ‘special snowflakes’ who riddle the mapchat with passive-aggressive remarks whenever they see an opponent with a meta build. Hipster cred doesn’t win you games mate. Meta builds are popular for a reason.
To be fair, I mostly see this in hotjoin, and trashtalk is bound to happen there. But I still wonder where this attitude problem comes from.
The game does need a lot more diversity though, but this a a balance problem; not a player problem. The post-HoT power creep is absolutely disgusting.

I don’t like condis. They’re coarse and rough and irritating, and they get everywhere.
From my experience power reaper isn’t really viable in WvW zergs because as a necro, you gotta sacrifice a lot of defensive stats in order to deal good damage. Going squishy doesn’t really work in the frontline, especially because necro’s lack the blocks and invulns warriors and guards have. Also, the loss of Blood Magic (assuming you’re running Spite/SR/Reaper) will hurt your sustain a bit, not to mention the loss of the reduced well cooldowns.
Condi reaper on the other hand, allows you to go very tanky (Dire/Rabid/Trailblazer) while still dealing sufficient condi pressure. I personally run a variety of the infamous condi signet reaper build used in PvP. Plague Signet is a real life saver, since it can both remove immobs and stun at an instant.
As far a power builds go; base necro allows you to go full zerker and still deal good damage at range, with positioning being your main tool to survival. Keep in mind that post-HoT, you’ll have a hard time vs hammer heralds spamming 2 and chronomancers though, so it’s more risky to play than it used to be.

Quoting a post I made earlier regarding necros/reapers in raids:
Killed the Vale Guardian yesterday with 2 reapers and 1 regular necromancer in the squad. Both reapers were running full zerker and the necro was running sinister condi.
It took us a couple of tries but our DPS was really solid.
For those curious; the full squad composition:
Tank: 1 Dragonhunter
Healer: 1 Druid
Power: 2 Reapers, 1 Chronomancer, 2 Heralds
Condi: 1 Engineer, 1 Necromancer, 1 BerserkerTo be fair though it was mostly a guild group (7/10) so we weren’t as ‘strict’ when it came to class setups. I personally haven’t pugged the new raid yet.
But with that said, I doubt necros will ever be part of the ‘optimal’-meta. People have to keep in mind that just because a certain spec isn’t optimal, doesn’t mean it isn’t viable. The Vale Guardian is very doable if the group has the right role-composition and everyone knows what they’re doing.
Sadly it’ll be a matter of time until pug-culture gets obsessed with using ‘optimal’ builds exlusively.

My chronomancer’s new look. I wish it was possible to dye the electric effect on the tempest shoulderpiece though.
lal, why are people comparing Life Force to Adrenaline again? Because they both happen to be displayed as bars?
Try actually playing the classes for once, both mechanics serve different purposes, don’t be dense. With that out of the way, I wouldn’t mind starting with at least enough LF to activate shroud, 15-20% should suffice. Although I don’t have that much problems anymore since thieves aren’t as strong as they used to be.
yeah much ""lal" because if something is to be buffed about necs lifeforce other things need to be changed aswell, especially when it comes to warri’s adren gain and degen. You guys are strong enough yet ask for more buffs, indeed “LaL”.
okay.
I do agree that warriors need some serious help at the moment, I’m just trying to say it’s a bad comparison.
And yeah, necros are in a decent spot right now thanks to the reaper spec, but base necro could use some ArenaNet love.
But to be fair, the same could be said about the other base specs as well…

My little guy, loving the class so far.
My scrapper outfit.
Sp00ky Nazgûl!
I know, it’s not the most original/creative look :>

Meh, the only gripe I have with moa is that is completely nullifies Death Shroud health and removes minions from Necros.
At least it gives us some mobility though \o/
My guy. The Inventor Sunglasses are temporary until the Grenth Hood comes back.
That moment when you drop a well bomb on a downed enemy and the entire enemy team blows up because they’re trying to res him.
lol k, as a power necro I find them very easy to deal with. (running generosity sigil on both weapon sets though)
(edited by Lethal Stranger.5093)
Back when you could switch unlocked armor skins freely in sPvP, I always went for the most ridiculous outfits. Here’s my Engi, Warrior and Ele from left to right.
I ended up liking the combo on the right though :>
For CE(S)T, any time between 17:00 and 21:00 usually.
Generosity Sigils are your friends.
(edited by Lethal Stranger.5093)
Least common race/class combo’s from what I have seen:
- (Female) Charr Mesmers
- (Male) Norn Thieves
- Charr Elementalists
- Norn Elementalists
- Asura Warriors
(edited by Lethal Stranger.5093)
I’m saddened by the Consume Conditions (completely uncalled for) and Spectral Walk (;_;) nerfs, most of the other changes seem pretty good though.
I hope the buffs to Blood Magic (and siphon during Shroud) will improve our sustain significantly and I’m pretty sure Wellomancers are gonna enjoy the aforementioned traitline.
Mini Molten Firestorm, sold it a few months later for ~200g. Probably should’ve kept it until its price spiked to 700g, but I really needed the money at the time, and I got it for free so I’m not complaining :>
Eh, it kinda depends on the enemy composition imo. If the other team is heavy on Mesmers or Necros for example I don’t mind the extra thief.
But yeah, it’s frustrating to see 2 medi guards on the other side and being stuck with multiple thieves who refused to reroll. (unless they’re really really good, which often isn’t the case)

This bug very heavily affects PvP and it’s been at least a year now. Are the devs aware of this?
I’m guessing they’re unable to fix it and therefore pretend the bug doesn’t exist.
This is what I run, stats are similar to the build suggested by Metabattle, but doesn’t use a single celestial armor piece, I mostly use Knight’s and Cavalier’s:
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQJAoYhcMKcW5wzBf0APAC5fx2JKQ5qJfC-T1iDABAqFQG1VWZ/h50BAgJIqUiQxDAgLlXJoE8RVKe4EAQKAzVGB-w
You can shave some toughness off with zerker armor pieces if you’d like to.
(edited by Lethal Stranger.5093)
Cool, it better has some kind of leap/teleport /wishfulthinking
I’ve played around 800 WvW levels (not EOTM) on this Necro so plenty of experience in group and solo play.
I WvW only. and the only way I can survive on my Necro is to run 0/2/6/6/0 or 2/2/6/5/0, dagger + staff, soldiers gear with Hoelbrak runes; 3k armor, 2.5k Power and Plague Form. This absolutely keeps thieves from bursting me down – even two.
That said, plenty of Warriors and Guardians rip through that in no time.
There’s no point going full ‘zerker, as much fun as it can be – I’ve got a set of crafted ascended gear but I melt from the retaliations alone in zerg fights, and when chasing Guardians – not that I can keep up for long, they can have a slither of life and DS / life blast can’t finish them without corrupt boon, my full zerker life blast won’t move their HP bar.
I carry 3 power sets of gear and 1 condition set, and have probably 6 builds on paper.
I’ve been running full zerker well necro (6/2/0/0/6, axe/focus + staff) for quite some time now (rank 1700+), and really, staying alive is all about positioning. You gotta well bomb at range and avoid the melee clash as much as possible, but be sure you can always fall back your own melee train in case you’re getting focused.
Problem with running tankier builds as a necro is that if you get caught by the hammer train, you’re pretty much gonna die anyway due to stun and immobilize spam. You’ve got no teleports, blocks or invulns to save your skin. You can either pop DS or Plague and hope for the best.
What helps a lot is putting 6 points into Soul Reaping (mandatory if you’re running full zerker), this will increase your death shroud health and therefore your survivability. If you react fast enough you can easily burst down thieves with 2-3 Life Blasts (don’t forget to use Doom to interrupt their stealth attempts).
Chasing guardians during zerg fights isn’t really productive indeed, I only do so if they’re really low on health, although Focus #5 will hurt them quite a bit, especially when you catch them out outside their meleetrain. But you’re generally better off walking around the backline finishing off squishy classes. A well-placed Focus #4 along with a couple of Life Blasts can blow most staff eles up in a matter of seconds.
My 2 cents
(edited by Lethal Stranger.5093)
Here’s my little guy, I basically tried to match the T3 coat+monocle dye with the glow from the AC weapons (at night)
Wow I thought I was the only one. Same problems here, especially on my thief :/
Over 4.5k hours since beta/release, not a single drop.
I’m quite happy how my Norn thief turned out, I was going for a bouncer/bodyguard-for-hire look
I have 2 thieves atm. Mainly because I wanted a male Norn thief, but I had troubles deleting my original Sylvari thief since he’s one of my first characters. I now use my Sylvari as a mule though.
Try something like this. Warhorn + reduced well CD for maximum loot-tagging. You can go full zerker as long as you position yourself well, but you can take some knight stat trinkets if you feel uncomfortable running full glass.
3rd utility is up to you. Well of Darkness, Well of Power, Spectral Wall, Spectral Walk and Spectral Armor are all viable. Or even Corrupt Boon to troll enemy Guardians and Eles.
