Have any of you tried Burnbow guardian in WvW? It’s super deadly itself and marks just as many enemies as Burnstaff did. Anet didn’t fix a problem, they only shifted it to another area.
Staff nerf screwed over a lot of power guardians. All they had to do was change number of targets from five to three.
I’ve playing guard since launch, and I hate longbow/dragonhunter on guardian but have to play it because “meta”
Why would I use a skill that “Causes cripple to allies who leave the area” :/
kittenpost/10
I picked guardian because it was the class that seemed closest to Paragon(my gw1) main fused with some monk and ritualist flavours.
I wish we had some offensive shouts like Pargons did, and if the spirit weapons weren’t so… meh. Havent seen the firebrand other than the reveal, but maybe the tomes give it a more monk flavour?
I have a norm female since launch. Back when I thought the transforms were gonna be dope af.
Hume t3 cult is dope. My sylv rocks t3 cult for my rev. super sayain 3 plant boys.
Norn t3 male is prob my favourite armor in game.
Because having all the threads about specific issues in seperate threads helps keep things organized and easy to navigate for responses and stuff.
Having all bugs/issues/etc in one thread will be too cluttered and hard to navigate.
Also this is necro forum. No fun here. Only dread and death.
You mean, why is the profession that is built around dark magic, vampirism, that uses skills with skulls on them, and all their skill buttons are pretty much green…. oh and Reaper dark and edgy?
I dunno man, beats me.
Just make up an original name. I legit saw a dude named George Miller in game and thanked him for the Mad Max movies… he had no idea what I was talking about and George Miller was his actual name.
Be creative.
First off welcome back and good timing too.
Since different people will see HoT differently based on their expectations your best bet with PoF is to give it a spin during this open beta weekend and use the initial map as directional concept on how they went with the new XPac. Just get your client patched and you should be good to try it out.
Personally I enjoy the differing levels of HoT and it did take time to gain the masteries to access everything, but that meant more exploration and new things to find. ANet has indicated that they want to continue to expand on movement options and joy of travelling. I think this has represented itself in gliders, and some of the other movement methods we saw in LS3. If you didn’t encounter it since you were away we had one new map in LS3 that allowed a line and grapple/pull system (“spidey”) that by itself was a lot of fun, but also worked well in-conjunction with gliding that gave even more freedom in motion.
I would expect less legacy flat maps but bigger more multi-level maps moving forward, but potentially not to the extent that HoT were. LS3 seemed to try and find a balance between the two. New zones will require masteries though to explore all of it, so if that was an issue I think that might still be present in PoF. As I said, spend the time for the client update and try it for yourself. Either way, welcome back and good gaming to you!
, as it’s old content now, which means less active pugs doing it, so I would be required to solo
^ that is so wrong. I just played through all LS3 and the maps were plenty and all the metas being done.
The value of dev time needed to make a new race work would probably vastly outweigh the actual value added to the game. They’d have to do models, voice acting, story integration (backwards too), make sure all the armor works… and in return all we’d get is a bit more cosmetic variety. Would be nice if they had infinite resources, but if it’s a question of Tengu or Mounts? – I’ll pick mounts.
Tengu are cool though, I wouldn’t mind seeing them play a bigger role in the story at some point.
People keep saying this, but it’s not true. New races and new classes/specializations are two of the key features that will sell MMO expansions. WoW is a good example of this. They have added 5 new races since launch and they’ll keep adding more! And they have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay many more armor skins to adjust to fit the new races to add too!
I mean sure, Anet is not Blizzard, I know Anet is a much smaller company, but then so is GW2 a much smaller game with less armors, so adding a new race to GW2 will be less amount of work than adding a new race to WoW.
And yet the vast majority of the population play 2 races. Humans and Blood Elf. Why because alot of armor looks distorted/horrible on other races. Pandarans have horrible armor stretching, Worgen have huge clipping issues, goblins are the lowest played race.
The most played races are the most human/humanoid races.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/276315/distribution-of-world-of-warcraft-characters-by-race/
Mount size is based on the height of the character, not race.
Look, GW2 is not your game to dictate in which direction it will go or should. Yes, suggestions and criticisms help the game but you just sound like that kid in the toy store before christmas throwing a tantrum you’re not getting exactly what you want.
Tengu will be added if and when GW2 dev team along with ANET find it appropriate. People have been asking since GW1 and it will happen, maybe, maybe not.
You’re coming off super arrogant in your responses to people who are pointing out story/lore reasons, dev reasons and just anything that disagrees with you.
My auto-run worked fine.
WTB straffing raptor video. I’ve never seen a chicken or raptor walk side ways, only forwars/backwards/
Whar are you talking about?
Are you sure you’re playing the same game everyone else is… what is this “you need to do specific things to get max level”…. nothings changed in terms of leveling.
So max height asura mount will be the same size as max height norn? We’ll go male-male for the comparison
Indeed.
Whoa… – Keanu Reeves
They’ll tell us after its ended….
I hope not!
Last I checked the races bound together to stop any/all forces that would seek to destroy Tyria or cause big badabooms.
And HoT, aside from Ep4? were not very human centric at all.
GW1 was allllllll humans but no one batted and eye. Now we have 3/4 not human playable races, an expansion focusing on Maguuma life and creatures, but we goin to Elona where there are humes and ermagherd its the humepocalpyse.
As for fantasy and humans… Yes the majority of fantasy worlds revolve around humans being surrounded by non-human and human-esque creatures/life.
So max height asura mount will be the same size as max height norn? We’ll go male-male for the comparison
My comments have nothing to do with Arena Net’s “play as you want” statement
My points are comparing gw2 at launch gameplay as compared to gw2 today. At launch, the player had a choice of how to level their character and today not so much.
At launch vs now : Leveling edition
Then: PVE,Crafting, Map Explo, WvW, PvP
Now: PvE, Crafting, Map Explo, WvW, PvP
Im confused.
As for masteries. I’m so confused on how you’re having trouble. I stopped playing for 8 months, had mastery level was 82. Less than a week of being back I’m at 130 and the majority of those, minus 2-3 getting sliver in the challenge/adventures, were from doing the masteries you channeled from maps and doing Living Story 3.
Thats 48 masterie. 38 HoT and 9 Core.
You get masteries by playing the game. Literally.
I think you need to give examples of what you consider casual, because as casual goes, GW2 has it in spades and just might not mean what your definition of casual is.
Why would a company drive away their player base and make them angry, by gutting professions to make them unplayable. Like berserk spec on warrior.
Is the plan to make it so no one wants to buy your products. Seems like a good idea to me idk about you guys. Good luck getting me to buy your expansion.
Balance patches happen.
I play ranger mostly and my pets either dont attack, disappear or just do not do what their intended.
If you think this is the end all be all patch and no further patches are coming then I mean, play whatever FOTM is.
I’m assuming you played Zerker cuz it was op af and now it isnt. Move on to the next FOTM, mate.
In Warhammer Online I had color-coded vertical hp bars with a class icons on top so I could keep an overview even if my entire group stacked on a hostile target.
White bars for group members, green for friendly and red for hostile targets. I happened to play supporter for a dwarven melee gang.
Take a look and tell me that’s not beautifully clear. If only I could have that in GW2…
I’m so sorry, but this is by far the worst UI I’ve ever come across..
As for GW2 UI, I don’t mind it. Being able to actually move my windows around with the aid of addons(looking at you WoW) is fine with me.

Your personal story really ends when you hit 40 and join one of the guilds. From then on it doesn’t really matter what you’re background is
You see a lot more mesmers because for every mesmer there are 3 clones :P
Size of mount will be different based on race though, like asura raptor looked smaller than a human raptor.
I guess we’ll see but I mean, clipping for me is not a biggy unless its like WHOA clipping. If its small its w/ev
You do realize WoW charges 60USD for a max level boost vs GW2 $25.
As for the prep pack, all the contents of the pack separately came to 7700 gems. 3500 gems is a steal.
I’m gone all weekend starting tomorrow to go outside and do IRL things with friends in the sun on the beach… and am super sad I’ll be missing this weekend, but come back sunday and wanna know if I can get a shot at playing or not get my hopes up
The mounts are small and designed as such to prevent visual noise.
If you want least played, Rev seems to be super low pop n from a reddit pole, will continue in that fashion as it was the least picked anticipated elite spec.
Also Thieves are way more common than Mesmers. Wayyyy more. Especially in pvp/wvw.
On the argument “oh noes, tengu don’t fit in old personal story!”
Actually, they fit perfectly. Nothing prevents Pact commander from being a tengu. There were tengu who were not sitting on their behinds beyond the wall, there were tengu who joined the Pact during Orr campain (like Itzu Steelshreik, if I recall correctly). Nothing prevents player-tengu to leave the Dominion of Winds, join one of three orders, become hero of Claw island and Pact commander. The fun thing is that tengu-PC makes a lot more sence compaired to current LS3 Ep6 (spoilers!) charr shining blade PC.
And, yes, if next epx features playable tengu, I will buy it without any questions. Unlike PoF, which contains things I never asked for and wanted (cough mounts cough all-human-centric plot cough more GW1 references cough).
“Oh no, a game referencing its predecessor that is a continuation of the same franchise! The humanity!”
Last I checked Balth destroying the dragons and all of Tyria is pretty much an “everyone” issue.
But hey… rationality and logic are for dumbos
Yes… its big spoilers.
I’d equate it to reading Fellowship of the ring, reading 2 chapters of Two Towers – skipping the rest of TT and moving into Return of the King.

Yea looks like dying them is a thing, I saw a video with different coloured raptors during a race and I think there is a video somewhere of them showing a dying option.
Reddit already has a gallery of armors/weapons. Lots of trenchcoats and butt capes.

I wonder if you’ve read the OP or just link dropping based on thread title.
The masteries and leveling of them makes people play the game and the unlocking of masteries also gives new ways to play and unlocks things.
I like it better than increasing level caps. Plus, masteries are account wide so do them once you’re set.
Give me my paragon ancient armor. Even on my male. I miss it.
or my Elonian paragon armor..
or my Primevil Dervish or Norn Dervish…
Or Canthan Necro… or Elite Luxon
Alllllll Monk armors.
Just put all the GW1 in game.

Well, I WAS excited to continue my Berzerker into the desert and turn my Ranger into a soulbeast, but between the nerfs to Power Warrior and Ranger (I have Sunrise, and want to use it, kitten!) that have sapped the fun out of the game, I’m seriously considering requesting a refund of my purchase of the Ultimate Edition of Path of Fire.
There will be another round of balance patches to come, don’t fret. As a ranger, I know that feel but give it a chance
Also, about having to use mouns to reach certain areas of the map/complete things with mounts absolutely no different than gliders.
I think some people need to play a tad better and not just rely on op traits to be good..
I was working on Nevermore on my Norn Guard, had a outfit made and everything.
They should’ve made it so that it can only hit 3 enemies instead of 5 or give it diminishing damage based on number of enemies hit with a small base damage buff that way its also viable for 1v1 situations
In all honesty yea, with the amount of chatter in game and loud noises when out and about, is eventually fade with the rest.
Pyre makes more sense. He is a character that many players are familiar with, he was a rebellious charr, and actually used a bow. The choice of Kalla…I don’t know it kind of screams political correctness using a female instead of another male legend. Which seems to be the trend with anet.
Not everything is political correctness just because they choose to do something. I’m going to assume you think Aurene is political correctness because shes a female dragon instead of male?
Maybe, and just follow me here for a sec guys, it will be explained in the expansion as to why she was chosen?
everything looks good save for the fact that all of the elites seem to be condi based. so nothing exciting for us people who love power based builds.
I’d reckon, Deadeye, Weave, Spellbreaker and possibly Soulbeast look power based.
But totally agree with everyone on mount hype. Really cool how they implemented them.
Most of all as a GW1 player, going back to Elona and seeing the old stuff combined with new stuff is the most exciting thing
My question is, can we even be sure that B is really B and not another goddess posing as B?
Power Reaper buffs changes in the traits and Spite tree rework confirmed to bring Reaper back in line as a Power build….
this alone got me hyped to hell….
no specific infos yet tough.
Also MOUNTS well animated MOUNTS with abilities and Dying freaken can color the MOUNTS !!!!!!!
You can DYE mounts?! What?! Where?!
GW2 doesn’t need exposure. When googling best MMO’s or mmo’s in general GW2 always comes up as one of the top contenders on the list.
GW2 also has the franchise history of over a decade that has resonated with its players
Also, the steam forums…. ugh the thought of those things on this game.
During the PoF reveal GW2 twitch channel had more viewers than league. Im gonna say thats also a good amount of exposure and good amount of fanbase there for it to not need steam
I keep rewatching the videos on the new elite specs and each time I watch em I’m more and more torn on what I’m going to start my PoF adventure on.
Scourge looks awesome and interesting
Lightsaber Engi = lightsaber and cool visuals, very versatile.
Weaver – double attunements?! combined attunements? finally a sword!
Spellbreaker – never been big on warriors, but this spec actually looks fun.
Firebrand – awww yes, gimme dem tomes again and the helmet with bookpages on top? ooh lordy
Deadeye – barely played my theif, only level 50 so not sure where that will take me once
i see more on DE but DD seems more fun atm
Soulbeast – as a druid/ranger main right now, I need more info on soulbeast.
Renegade – a bit iffy on, but I love the Rev lore and heavy armor/bows appeal to me.
Mirage – looks awesome but it will take a bit to get me off Chronomancer. Shield n wells are just too fun.
What are your thoughts? What you guys currently “maining” right now are you gonna switch professions come PoF
I do think I’ll use my boost on a war for the spellbreaker though.
I like my Sylvari necro honestly, I find their glow and meek figure to really work with necro.
I’m using the halloween skin with the black ghost thingy that i dont remember the name of.
Do we know if mounts will move faster than swiftness allows a character to move?
- If not, and if mounting and dismounting is that big a deal to you, use a perma-swiftness build.
- If so, well… games cater way too much to players’ constant demands for more convenience. Players demanded mounts, now let them deal with the tiny consequences, if there even are any.
The OP may think that he is not overstating. However, this request falls so far beyond the realm of first world problems that it is in its own category.
I was watching a Wooden Potato stream today while he was examining AuroraPeachys demo, she had swiftness on but it didnt seem to affect mount speed at all.
You seem to want a game where essentially you’re on a set track with occasional pitstops.
This is not that game.
Finding Hearts or as I call em, map quests, are easily found and have set instructions on how to complete them and often they have at least 3 ways of completing them giving you options.
Crafting is easier than other games because when you want to craft something and you’re not sure how to craft the components, clicking them shows how to craft those etc.
This game and GW1 was very much about exploring. Exploring the map via all the map goodies like points of interest, vistas, hero-points/masteries
The game can be quite linear in its start because you have to go through zones for your level, but in which order of race zones is up to you.
I think you just need to find yourself a goal, and set out to achieve it instead of being given one for you. If the latter is more your style, WoW might be a better choice as all quests lead through a chain and progress you through the zones via “linear structure” but so does GW2 but just more free and liberal in that.
I’m sorry but a majority of people still skip content by running a map for all the waypoints and teleporting to them when theres an event.
If you’re playing WoW then I’m sure you’ve noticed the addition of world bosses and world quests, which were directly taken and inspired by guild wars 2. People take things from other all the time because imitation is the best form of flattery. But GW2 always put their own twist and spin on things that people end up taking after.
Mounts in GW2 do not serve the same purpose they do in WoW, to travel fasters, although can be used as such, but as a tool for further exploration just like Gliding/Bouncy shrooms/or any other map mastery for getting around. Mounts in WoW are vanity, mounts in GW2 are tools.
Kinda tired of this argument that mounts will take away from exploration of the game when there have been waypoints since the start of GW2 but people don’t mind those.
Use the mount to get to X objective, dismount and proceed however you wish.
(edited by LimeSamurai.9140)
I read a lot of the thread and other ones about mounts and I feel as if most people are under the impression that mounts will have to be used 100% the time to traverse.
Gliding and updrafts in HoT were mandatory to get to certain places for completion and progression as well as gating by masteries, mounts the same will be “tools” just like gliding was/is as well as tunnels/bouncy shrooms etc. Use them to get to X ledge/across y thing, hop off and continue on foot.
There will always be those that prefer the game at its origin because they believe it was harder and not as easy. Its the same in WoW as GW2
The game is way better now. It isn’t easier, its more accessible.
