I spent a couple days doing invasions specifically to get the monthly completed, had 3/4 this morning and just needed to do a daily to complete it… now I am back at 1/4. This is utterly ridiculous, I want my 2 days back!
Yeah, I did invasions last night despite being tired of them all instead of goofing around on an alt specifically to work on those parts of the monthly, and those are the parts that they cut out. If I had known this was going to happen I would have just played the alt, enjoyed myself quite a bit more, and wouldn’t have been unhappy today.
They took a couple of the monthly achievements out, and if you had already done them you just lose that progress.
I went from 2/4 last night to 0/4 today.
I’m having this issue as well. I deleted a character and tried to make another character and now I’m getting this message. I have two other blank character slots. Getting the same two error messages everyone else in this thread is.
I’m really hoping the Asura pet is meh, because I really like the Charr Soldier and now I really want one of these Griffon Plushies. I already made the soldier, so if the Asura pet is all kinds of awesome I’ll have a tough choice to make.
I would like to know if there’s a way my toy soldier mini-pet will make those noises, because after fighting them for the first time I decided that was the mini-pet I wanted, but they don’t pop-gun anyone standing around in Lion’s Arch.
I don’t like having to wait at the beginning. Next time can we get a jump puzzle that doesn’t have a wait at the beginning?
I also hate hitting my head on invisible blocks. Makes the waiting that much worse.
Was just in there trying to get this achievement. Two people left the group after the event was over. Went over every single square inch of that place, AoE everything, went to all of the places specifically mentioned in this thread, and no achievement.
About to go in solo and give it a try. Definitely seems that something is wrong, though.
EDIT: Just went in solo, finished without any problem. Seems to be something to the theory that if a group member leaves then the achievement bugs.

I thought I saw confusion applying damage on a wind-up attack regardless of whether or not it hit anyone. Was fighting ettins, would dodge their attacks but still see the purple circle.
Does the attack actually have to land for it to trigger confusion?
I’m on Stormbluff Isle and it’s incredibly rare that I don’t run into at least a couple other players. It most frequently happens in unpopular leveling zones (Snowden Drifts is the biggest empty zone). LA always has overflow, and there have been times I’ve entered an Orr zone in the past few weeks that I’ve been put in an overflow there too. Orr overflows really do suck because they are actually empty, but thankfully it only lasts a couple of minutes.
Made the announcement last night that Shadow Behemoth pre-event started, and someone in my guild actually got stuck in a Queensdale overflow as it seems everyone on the server came out for the boss.
So a couple weeks back I was hit with the “preview armor” bug, and ended up with two soulbound pieces of heavy Order of Whispers armor on my elementalist. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I won’t ever be getting my 3 gold back, but I would like to see a system put in place so that this cant happen again.
My proposal – a short window of time where you can return an item to the vendor you bought it from for a full refund. Say, five minutes or so, long enough to realize you ended up with an item you didn’t want due to a bug or mechanical failure, or to realize you bought the one with the wrong stats. Make the return window close if you modify the item in any way or leave to another zone. Problem solved, not stuck with items I can’t use, sell, salvage, or toss in the mystic forge.
Really, if you have order armor you don’t need, your only option to free up that bag space is to delete it. Maybe at least make it usable in the forge. Two suggestions for the price of one!
I killed Shadow Behemoth last night on Stormbluff Isle. It would be nice to know what the triggers were so it would be easier to see if it’s bugged or not. It’s working on some servers anyway.
I would really like countess anise’s armor :/
I would really like if they didn’t add Anises armor, and if they stop putting in blatant copies of NPC armor period. I hate, absolutely HATE that the T3 light cultural Asura armor just makes you look like a pixel for pixel copy of Zojja. Blatant laziness on part of the designers.
It would be laziness if those cultural sets were the only ones in the game. However, the cultural sets are only a small portion of a much larger variation of unique armour sets. You may not be satisfied with the T3 making you look like Destiny’s Edge characters but other players may not share your thoughts on it. As a matter of fact, I can imagine people complaining about not having the current T3 designs if they were never implemented.
Don’t want to make it seem like I’m being hostile, but I find it unfair that you should accuse the designers for being lazy just because they decided to add 5 sets of armour into the game that lets those who want to look like Zojja, look like Zojja.
Except that t3 cultural armour is supposed to be something to aspire to. There are very few sets in the game which aren’t worn by NPCs at one point or another.
One could say that looking like a legendary hero of Tyria IS something to aspire to. Or at least to know that my norn thief and Eir Stegalkin shop at the same boutique.
Is the WvW gear not Pow/Vit/Tough? I could have sworn it was.
In BWE3 there was a barber NPC near the tailoring workstation in Divinity’s Reach. I played with it long enough to see how expensive it would be (very) and then ran off somewhere because the devs were broadcasting that they wanted everyone in a certain area.
The NPC obviously didn’t make it to live, but it exists and hopefully it’ll come out of hiding at some point.
From my anecdotal experience, I always seem to get a lot of dyes when I make a new character. I would play my 80 warrior or elementalist for days without seeing a single dye drop, but I go and make a new character and I have 6 or so in the first hour.
I haven’t been to any high level zones recently to know if the drop rate has changed out there, but my previous experience with Orr was that dye was incredibly rare. If it’s dropping at a rate of even a couple a day that would be a pretty significant boost to the drop rate.
I rez every dead player I come across. If they’re not afk they thank me, if they are it’s free xp.
Don’t go afk where enemies wander.
I use a rifle on my warrior. It complements a sword MH crit/bleed build exceptionally well, as the rifle auto attack stacks bleed and rifle crits can hit for quite a bit (in addition to stacking more bleeds on crit due to sigil and trait). I could use the rifle as my primary easily without changing my build or gear.
Warrior is perfectly viable for warrior. I don’t have an engineer so I can’t comment there. Would like to see rifle rangers though.
I’m using the Rune of Grenth on my elementalist. I have no idea why I chose it.
In WvW, though, it’s incredibly nice. If I’m taking a beating, I switch to Air, use my heal that gives me swiftness for being in air, and the heal profs an AoE chill. I get faster, my enemy gets slower, I make a clean escape.
The runes seem to be situational, but powerful in that situation, if you can find the one you like and work it into your playstyle.
^^ in dark age i had roughly 40 abilities on my bars….and they all received extensive use
bads got away with using less….but then again…they were bads
What were you playing that had 40 abilities that you used extensively?
My warden had 3 action bars full of abilities but a lot of them I used so infrequently I constantly had to remind myself what the icon was for. My other characters used far less.
All of the Destiny’s Edge armors are in the game though (I’m assuming for Rytlock, never really looked at Charr). So you can dress like your hero if you want to.
My problem with GW2 skills isn’t that there aren’t enough of them, it’s that the ones that are there aren’t overly interesting. I’d really like if all weapons on a profession had access to similar versions of the same ability (or at least similar functional category) and you could assign them on your hotbar as you liked.
I played end-game in some of the other games mentioned, and the only one I remember having to use more abilities than I do in GW2 is Rift, and you can macro a lot of those together anyway because otherwise it’s ridiculously tedious to play. And in at least one of those other games the buttons I was pushing weren’t very much more interesting than they are in GW2.
Is the hat just a costume piece?
Got mine. Thought it was going to take a little more than just logging in today, but hey whatever works.
I think the biggest culprit is the extra stats on gear. If a level 80 in any 80 gear goes to a level 5 area, they still get two more stats per piece of gear than a level 5 would in the same area.
Simple fix would be to assign a hierarchy for each stat on a piece of gear. There’s already a primary stat, just need to set a secondary and tertiary stat. Then, when you go to an area where that level only has one stat, you only get the primary stat and the others are ignored. For two-stat zones, you get primary and secondary.
Weapon damage also needs to scale better. A level 80 elementalist with an exotic weapon will do roughly three times as much damage as a level 5 elementalist with a blue weapon. It’s a bit extreme.
I’ll repeat what I said earlier: if you’ve already learned the puzzle, you don’t need to SEE the puzzle anymore because you’ve already seen it, already seen the jump you need to make, and already worked the timing out. Of course when you went back on another character you were able to do it, because you already knew what to do.
The problem is for those trying to learn, those that actually have to SEE the next jump.
I finished the tower. It only took me slightly more than an hour to do so. At first, I was there with two huge norn and a large charr. It was extremely frustrating. I then played overflow roulette to get a tower with less obstructive characters. Found one with only a single female norn who was naked. After finding this non-obstructed tower, it took me six tries to finish the puzzle.
I don’t hate the people who play norn and charr. That would be absurd. Except for the obvious examples (huge norn named U Cant See) they are only playing the character they like.
What I hate is that a majority of the puzzle’s difficulty is artificial – it was only hard because the other players were blocking my view. If it was a solo instance it would have been easy. Way too easy.
They should have costumed everyone to a semi-transparent ghost or skeleton or some other Halloween-themed creature. That would alleviate a large majority of the issues with the tower.
Saw him two days ago on Stormbluff Isle. I don’t know what the trigger is to start the event so I have no idea how to help you.
Last time I ran it I got a Tiny Ritual Bag that had some butter in it. Paula Deen would have been so happy.
When learning the puzzle, you have to see the puzzle. It’s not about seeing where you are, but seeing where you need to go. That’s why norn and charr are so obnoxious, because you can’t see where you need to be.
Obviously once you learn the puzzle they cease to be a problem. Once you learn the puzzle you don’t need to see anything to do it. Of course, people who have learned the puzzle are not the ones hating on charr and norn characters. It’s those still trying to learn the puzzle, that actually need to see the next jump, that have the problem.
And yes, for the record, I finished the puzzle, and I hated every minute I had to spend in there with a huge norn blocking my view.
It’s artificially difficult. The real difficulty of the puzzle comes not from the timer or the jumps themselves, but having to cram through that first area with a dozen other people. Once everyone else falls off the puzzle becomes remarkably easy (unless you hit invisible blocks). If the puzzle was solo from the beginning I’m willing to bet a greater number of people would have finished it.
On my 25 thief I got a level 20 item (blue) and two level 45s (greens). My wife’s guardian got two 20 blues and two 45 greens.
So really I have no idea how it works, except to say “in your level-ish range”.
My wife and I did the mad king duo as a level 25 thief and a level 22 guardian. It was more tedious than difficult (though I suppose that was only because there were two of us).
Pretty easy in a group.
My female human kept bumping her head on invisible blocks and falling into the goo. Don’t know if this is the same problem you’re having.
Worst spot was jumping up to the last set of stairs before the clock, constantly failing because no matter where I jumped from I would hit my head and not make the jump. Didn’t have the problem on my female Norn.
It sucks, but it is doable.
Yeah, it does suck. When something sucks to do, that makes it bad design.
I suspect I would enjoy this puzzle a lot more if I didn’t have to share it with so many other people.
I support this idea. The yellow on my Ebonhawk staff clashes with the Sincerity on my armor.
I want to see the map completion badge somewhere on my own screen so I can feel more amazing than I already am.
And this thread just got twice as Awesome.
I just did the fire elemental on my level 14 thief. It wasn’t particularly difficult, no more than usual anyway.
It’s a tough fight and it’s not very friendly to new players, that’s for sure. The best way to learn is to have a challenge to overcome, and that’s why I like it the way it is. Any new player who enters the fight, observes, learns, and executed will be a much better player down the line.
Heck, the fight was possible during BWE3 when it was overtuned to the point of insanity. It’s fine the way it is now.
Sometimes I solo group events, if the boss doesn’t have some sort of anti-kiting ability or really powerful ranged attack and I feel like wasting 15+ minutes of my day for no reason other than to say I did it.
I would like there to be some sort of environmental weapons or nearby NPCs you can get to assist you (sometimes you can anyway with clever kiting) to make the process a little quicker (not easier, just quicker). Sometimes it’s either solo the champion or it doesn’t die at all, and that really sucks when there’s a skill point behind it that you need.
I think this fight is awesome. I wish there were more like it. Most of the other event bosses go down too easily to a zerg, this one eats zergs for breakfast.
I have absolutely no trouble with my elementalist, but my elementalist is built to take a beating (25 air, 25 earth, 20 water, vitality or toughness on every piece of gear).
The problem I’ve noticed is two-fold:
First, in zones with less people in them (such as Snowden Drifts and Gendarren Fields) there don’t seem to be many events at all. I’ve leveled two characters through both zones I listed, and both times it was an awful drag because there were no events to boost XP (and fun) gain. Without events, leveling is incredibly tedious.
Second, in zones with a higher population that is generally centered in certain areas, there are a lot of group events that you can’t find people to help with. This tends to be true of lower-level zones with dungeons in them. I did Caledon Forest yesterday and it was really bad. Champions up all over the place and just myself to take them down. Needless to say, I didn’t do many events, and the people waiting at TA were not interested in helping out.
My two suggestions to fix this are simple: make events trigger more often or make more of them trigger by user interaction, and provide NPC help and environmental weapons to deal with group events when there is no group around. The first is rather self explanatory, I’ll go into more detail about the second.
Say you have a champion krait witch that takes over a hylek village. This village has defenders and fire lobbers. However, the krait witch kills the defenders easily with her PBAoE poison cloud that they don’t move out of and die to even though it says they’re immune to poison, and the fire lobbers get taken out easily by the other krait that spawn in the area. Basically, the environment is of no help.
Make a force of hylek, maybe a few veterans, that will engage the witch if/when you ask them to. Have plenty of rocks and boards and things laying around to stun or otherwise disrupt the witch. And have lobbers set aside where the krait won’t normally go so you can get extra damage from them. Basically, if any one person can effectively use all of the tools to defeat the champion, it should be possible. For 2-3 people it would be easy, and a group could do it as normal.
That way when all you come across is champion event after champion event, and there’s no one else in sight, you can still give it a go and accomplish something.
Wouldn’t be so bad if there was a window where we can sell the item back to the vendor for full value, that way if we did end up with a bag full of items we can’t use we can at least fix it.
As it is, you can’t sell the items at all, so there’s nothing that can be done except toss it in the mystic forge and hope you win the jackpot.
I just had this happen too. Was in the Order of Whispers HQ on my elementalist, taking a look at the items, decide to preview the three armor sets.
Look in my bag, there’s a heavy chest and gloves, and I’m down to 12 silver. Yeah, I was poor before (3g ftw!) but now I’m completely broke.
Sent in a bug report, hoping they can do something about it. I’d rather have 3g than two pieces of armor I can’t use.
Keep in mind that even in other games with better performance it was still possible to bring enough people to grind everything to a halt.
A significant number of DAoC players experienced significant performance decreases and “ghosts” when large numbers of players were present. At the time I had a very good computer, and I was involved in a pre-patch reset relic raid that it seemed like EVERYONE on the server was involved with. Huge clash at one of the mile gates and my performance was about on par with one of my aunt’s vacation picture slide shows. 1/3 FPS is an interesting way to fight.
Even in WoW there was a guild on my server that would bring huge crowds of DKs to Wintergrasp and all cast Army of the Dead in the courtyard to grind the server to a halt. I would guess that Earthen Ring experienced more server crashes at the end of a WG battle than any other…
Actually, Daish, the weaker servers more often than not seem to fight for second place, especially given the current imbalances.
This has been my experience. When Team A is completely dominating the match and there’s no chance of catching up, Team B and Team C will simply fight each other for second place.
Saw it a few weeks ago when JQ wouldn’t touch HoD and only went after SBI holdings, and then when SBI dropped to tier 2, after the match-up was clearly decided for SBI Blackgate and Janthir only seemed to engage with each other.
I haven’t stepped into WvW this week, the imbalance is absolutely ridiculous at this point.
I’m a fan of downed state. I think it’s a great idea that needs a little more polish to be really well done. I hope it stays forever.

I think you may have sold me on this server. Just gotta talk my brother into making the move.
Orbs are great, don't remove them, but let them apply to PVE

That’s only going to make the bandwagon server jumping a lot worse than it already is. Even people who don’t care at all about WvW or the minor perks that come from it will jump at the opportunity to have all those extra stats in PvE.
The score isn’t the demoralizing part, it’s just the most obvious symptom of the problem.
We log in during prime time, one team holds everything. We fight, we claw, we scratch our way back into the game, we take plenty of territory and even up the periodic score. Through force of will we manage to take the tick lead, knowing we’ll never catch up in score but refusing to go out quietly. We spend a lot of money on siege, on upgrades, on repairs. We invest heavily into our claimed territory to help defend it.
Prime time ends, we go to bed. The overnight crew takes over. Except we have a very limited overnight crew, but the other team has a large overnight force.
All that siege sits unused as there are no defenders. The upgrades to the keep ultimately make no difference, because the late-night Zerg will just roll through undefended gates. All that time, gold, and effort expended to get ourselves back in the game all gone when we aren’t around to do anything about it.
All of us love the fight. We love to take things from our enemy, we love to prevent our enemy from taking our things. We love to be the victor.
And you win by having the highest score.
If there was no score, nothing to be gained by taking all the objectives and holding them overnight to get as many points as you can, this wouldn’t be as big of a problem. If a keep wasn’t worth points, there would be a strategic advantage to letting your enemy hold it – it would encourage them to come out and fight. You could invite them to fight you at one of your towers by allowing them a base to launch attacks from. The action would be better because the map wouldn’t appear so overwhelming for the non-24 hour team.
Hide the score, change the score to be something more meaningful than simply holding objectives, and watch the gameplay increase significantly. People want to feel they have a chance to succeed, and right now that just doesn’t happen.
What EU servers are predominantly English-speaking and would welcome a solo US player and possibly his friend?
EDIT: oh, and one that preferably doesn’t have Ruin on it.
