Guys, come on. Really?
Why is this such a big deal, what exactly changed that the game is significantly worse this week than last? Better dungeon drops, better champion drops, better chest loot, more content, DA KARKA, and you guys want a “legacy” server?
NO ONE is forcing you to play a so called “numbers game.” You choose your play-style, not Anet, not “elitists,” but you.
I’d go to that server in a heartbeat. What the matter afraid that you’d end up on a low pop server with nobody to show off the flashy gear to?
I really don’t want to become a second class citizen for the sake of stroking someone else’s ego, with this Ascended gear crud. I am NOT going to do dungeons, Its not something I enjoy and came to GW2 to escape. I’m not going to start playing differently now, I’d just move on.
I’m already searching the market for a new MMO till this whole ascended gear thing gets sorted out, and if it never does get sorted out… well I guess I wont have reason to return.
Hopefully Arenanet looks at my account, sees the gems I’ve bought, and realizes that unlike the mass zerg freebie-grabbing dungeon-running kiddies sucking up space, I was actually paying my way. And that $$ is heading out the door for now.

Just curious as to where every1 is? Cursed shore used to have a lot of people farming (not counting the bots). Now i see very few people there. I know alot of people are probably checking out Southsun Cove and Fractals but I still expected to see quite a few people in cursed shore farming money and karma.
My question is is there a new area people are farming for money? Are fractals/dungeons or something else more lucrative for making money than cursed shore is now? Thanks in advance:D
Once again ArenaNet delivered something half-baked. The community jumped in hoping the new area would offer something more but it did not…. The problem is deep rooted in GW2’s anti-team up design. Players continue to swarm new content hoping to rekindle some of the wonder but that “something is missing” feeling just won’t subside.
The “something is missing” feeling is flaw in the anti-grouping, solo-friendly design of the game. The lack of dedicated roles leads to an identify crisis that leads down a single path. Eventually you realize there is no opportunity in this game to rise up and be recognized for your skills as a good healer, a good range player or a good tank. In spite of what some are saying about this combination always being dull, in many games playing your role correctly in strategic team play scenarios is an amazing rush…. Beyond that it gives you identity in the game and is a core mechanic of what makes an MMORPG successful for the long run. GW2 does not offer this. This is why GW2 is dyeing and will collapse faster than even the harshest critic would have anticipated.
GW2 has interesting paths to identity but they are all PvP related. The new gear treadmill insures it will evolve into a WvW focused game with PvE components just serving that end game.
You are speaking for yourself, not me, and perhaps not a lot of people. The BEST feature about GW2 for me was not needing to group unless you felt like it. For me the “something missing” was deep immersive questing involving long journeys, sagas, and arcs. Renown Heart hubs are not enough. Events are great, but they’re just a repeat cycle with no real permanant progress. Questing in MMOs and RPGS give a sense of purpose, and accomplishment while making the world feel alive.
If I wanted group content, this is not the MMO I would be playing. If I wanted a gear grind, this is not the MMO I would be playing. I know a very good MMO that has 10 million+ players for that sort of thing. I came to GW2 to escape ALL of that. It was a selling point for me, that seems to be gone now, sadly.

I’ve been struggling to log in. I’m really just disheartened about this ascended armor fiasco, but despite it I really tried to enjoy the Lost shores event.
Today I find myself bummed out looking at the little icon on my quicklaunch bar and I just don’t feel like it.
I have to go to a dungeon to get the rare drop needed for the new armor, and I don’t do dungeons. I won’t have my arm twisted. Its just really soured me to the whole event, and try as I might to enjoy the new zone… I just find my heart is not really in it.
I loved the halloween event. It was perfect. This event… this is a nightmare.
I love my little Asura characters and got really attached to them. There was so much hope riding on this game being the perfect escape from raiding and grinding games.
I feel adrift… because home, no longer feels like home.
I am horribly confused. I did not want to do dungeons, I came to GW2 to escape dungeon grinds. Upon hearing about Acended gear, I lodged my complaint. DO NOT WANT to grind dungeons. All play styles should have equal access to the same gear.
LATER, Arenanet posts an oddly worded update to what acended gear means.
THE QUOTE IS:
" Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content." ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Thoughts-on-Ascended-Gear-Merged-threads/page/118#post721402 )
I felt reassured for a while and was happy enough to see this event start. Now I see the recipe to make this gear, and it requires a drop only available in dungeons. “Vial of Condensed Mists Essence” is a rare drop from the Fractal of Mists Dungeon.
DUNGEON ONLY. Not cool Arenanet, not cool.

This statement has been retracted, sorry for the heard mentality stampede.
Glad to get some real info and that the gear will be available for all players not just dungeons.

Horribly disappointing, and honestly put such a sour taste in my mouth that I just have lost a lot of interest in GW2 since I hit that last-step roadblock. My motivation is just gone, when I log in, I feel like I’m just going through the motions rather than enjoying it. I don’t do dungeons, but I was really enjoying the personal story. If the personal story gets continued in a content update or expansion, I’m worried I’ll never see any of it due to this one step.
Its bumming me out.
Just wait till you get to the very last step.
Personal story, and yet it requires group + dungeon to kill the dragon in the last step. lolwhut?
Where the bleep, is the “personal” in that? You can do every single step solo, but instead of rewards and a pat on the back for reaching the end, you get super-trolled and are forced into finding a group. :/
I’m with the OP. The personal story content should be PERSONAL. What the [choice word that is not kitten] is this with grouping being required at the final step? I went all the way to the end of this thing, and I get a troll face at the end. Nice.
I just ran into the same problem as you. I am deeply regretting not researching the final step ahead of time after doing all that work, but I did not want to expose myself to spoilers.
How utterly disappointing. This is a PERSONAL story and should not be group content.
(as the forum says : Personal story: its all about you.*
*Until the last step anyway… the important step. Enjoy that. [trollface])
Dungeon roadblocks are not cool. If you want me to check out your dungeons, I will do it when I am interested in a dungeon, not because I can’t finish my PERSONAL story.
If the personal story is continued in an expansion, I’ll still have THIS step roadblocking all of it, because I refuse to be forced into a game style I don’t wish to participate in simply so I can do something that should have been solo in the first place.
I feel cheated, to be honest. I worked all through the personal story to be met with what feels like serious trolling at the last step. Who on earth decided such a thing should be a dungeon, on a personal story that is solo till that point? How does that even make sense?
For all the blue in the face it will get me, consider this a /complaint.

There are so many NPC’s in this game! So much text, so many voice dialogs, so many triggered events. How are we to keep track of who we’ve talked to, and not? How do we know when an NPC has something new to say? Just keep checking all the NPC’s in the game world whenever we walk by?
What would be great, is a little dot, right next to an NPC’s name after we’ve explored all their dialog options. The little dot would be our check mark that lets us know, we have talked to this NPC before, and have interacted with them in all the ways we can.
The Arenanet crew has put massive amounts of time into making these characters feel like they’re part of the world, I’d hate to miss out on a good event, quip, pun, popculture reference, or interesting bit of lore because I forgot to click one person in a town of 20+ NPCS.
I enjoyed that tower. It was really hard for me, but I did it.
My only gripe was that it took a lot of time. Time that I didn’t get to use enjoying the Halloween PvP’ish games, or the dungeon. I ran them once to get my requirements done and then it was back to the tower. I beat the tower on its last day up.
I would have loved to participate more in Halloween. Perhaps next year.
For the record: Love the puzzle. Hard as hell.
I don’t know if its “fair” or not… I’m not going to decide. People come in all types, and this puzzle seems to be harsh to some of them. There are also problems that the less tech savvy types out there might not even realize ARE a problem for them. A fine example is your mouse:
Mouse DPI is really important in this jumping puzzle. My mouse is old, and has low DPI, that means while other people are moving their wrists ever so slightly to move… I’m scrolling across my entire desk, grabbing my mouse, picking it up, and clonking it all the way back over to the left to continue up the tower. I eventually found decent spots I could do that in, but it sure as heck didn’t make that puzzle any easier. I still beat it though.
(edited by Lox.1089)
It took me a very long time, but I refused to give up. Later when I went to bed that night, I kid you not, I had repeat dreams of falling off in stupid spots ALL NIGHT.
I still wouldn’t change a thing. The fact that I was able to beat it reminds me that I might be older than most of you, but I’m still spry enough to pwn that freaking tower, with a tiny Asura, and a rickity old mouse with low DPI. So theres that.
Thank you for the quick response. Glad to know my tiny head was not on the chopping block, I’ve gotten quite fond of it. You might say I’m attached. /cheese

If you go into your personal lab instance, there is a doorway at the top of one of the labs. Its up the stairs on the “building” that has the fountain and a female asura sitting next to a cat. If you look around that lab area, you can see some ramps going up to a door (sealed and most likely just wall for now). Perhaps someday, that will be “our” house in the lab? Here is a picture of the doorway: http://i.imgur.com/n4kyM.jpg
Looking for Zojja's Blue Dye (Also found in the art of the tier 3 heavy Asura fighter)
in Asura
Posted by: Lox.1089
Zojjas hat is probably the most OP hat in the entire game. I really wish each armor class could have had their version of that hat, because it is so quintessentially Asura.
Light armor wearers could keep the beautiful graphic as it is now (dangling ribbons and fabric covering on the ears), Medium armor would get a nearly identical version but with leather straps & buckles instead of ribbons and molded leather ear covers, heavy armor wearers would have a version with chains instead of ribbons or straps, and the part covering the ear would be shiny reflective metal with the same trim detailing as the original hat.
Share the love, share the hat. <(T_T)>
I want to know why my Asura is so afraid of water. Is it really really cold or something? Any time i go into water, she screams as if I’m trying to kill her, even running through ankle deep water can trigger it.
I just wish we could get some mini drops out in the world instead of only through the Gem store. Currently drops out in the world are a tad boring. It would be nice to have pets, town clothes, or other fun perma-items of some sort to look forward to or work towards.
I also love the perked ears in combat. I go from a floppy lop eared rabbit to a mean little pointy ear devil piranha.
Sadly, Tier 1 Heavy Cultural “Galvanic” gloves (Asura) clip with the graphic bracers attached to the tier 1 chest piece “Galvanic coat”. Picture here: http://i.imgur.com/KPnFr.jpg (Hopefully the weird dye job will help show the problem).
A hide feature for gloves would be amazing. I really love some of the fore-arm graphics that are normally hidden under gloves. If I could opt to hide the gloves, I would. I really love the graphic lights/gems attached to the chest bracers.

I like the idea of an instance, but with a stripped down environment option for those of us that want to build our homes ourselves from the ground up and from our own designs. Maximize our potential for contentment and freedom by even giving us ways to turn housing into sandbox style micro-player-made content.
The way to do it right: EQ2 has always seemed like a gold standard to me. That is how it is done. You can fill a house, you can build a house, you can create house themes and there is a whole rating system for players to really get involved with.
LOTRO had housing I liked at first, but quickly grew frustrated with, as I felt I like was filling in a paint-by-number with their lock-to furniture placement. I liked being able to show off my trophies, but I was left feeling frustrated and constrained by it, on more than one occasion.
Mog house in FFXI was very tiny, but again… better than nothing at all and decent enough for its time, given how old the game is.
The artist in me wants personal choices, I don’t want the choices made for me. Which is why I get a bit concerned about Arenanet’s plans for their player instance. Especially after GW1’s Hall of Monuments. That felt very impersonal. How much will be us? How much will be “fill in the blank spot we put right here”/paint by number? Housing that gives me a developer level feeling of freedom is fantastic.
Also … Imagine furniture/wall/floor dye systems. How fantastic would that be?

Even though the war with the dragons is the main storyline, and unavoidable overall, it would have been nice to be able to stick with my “home” team somehow or return to them. I had the most enjoyment/love for the personal story when it revolved around my home-town areas, Medium enjoyment where things began to splinter off into different choices (whispers, priory, vigil), and the least enjoyment when things got “serious” and all three factions were brought together under Trehearne’s management.
I picked my race because they intrigued me. I love the cities, the cultural flavor, and the racial quirkiness. I became cozy, happy and comfortable just being a citizen and seeing all the facets of my race’s culture. It would be fantastic to have a diplomatic side to the personal story, that lets us choose to dive further into local politics, interacting with secret societies, breaking up conspiracies, hidden agendas and skull-duggery (perhaps even with twists depending on our charisma, ferocity, or dignity levels). As the story progresses perhaps we gain prestigious positions within our head of government or even become an ambassador for our race instead of running off to get ourselves a dragon head on a platter.
I created a post in the Asuran section, but perhaps I should have created a suggestion here.
I LOVE the “light armor” cultural armor for Asurans. All three tiers are great. I HATE the heavy armor versions. They do not appeal to me at all, and I tried really hard to find a look I could “deal with”. Can we get restrictions lifted on cultural armor, so a person can mix and match without having to pick only heavy/medium/light?
People buying these sets are doing it so they can use transmutation stones the appearance with other gear/stats anyway, so I’m not sure why there are restrictions.
It seems a little unfair that light armor wearers get the OP Savant (Tier 3) clothing. It looks the best, and is worn by a main Asuran character (Zojja). No fair!
Light cultural armor looks fantastic. All 3 tiers were fun must-haves for my elementalist.
However, when I started out my warrior, I had a look at the cultural armors and was very disappointed. I couldn’t find a single one of them that I liked, and believe me… I tried really hard to like them. I tried mix and matching, I tried just looking at them without the horrible helmets. I really just couldn’t get enthusiastic for any of them.
Am I in the minority? Does dye make it better?
I hope more options are forthcoming, because really these remind me of awful mighty morphin’-Tron-Gundam suits. The savant hat (Zojja’s hat -light armor tier 3) looks sleek and futuristic and nothing about it says “light armor”. That’s the look I want, not “Heavy Armor must = Robot Suit”.
(Sidenote: I also think that cultural armor choices should not be restrictive by type you can wear because right now I have light armor envy, and want my Zojja outfit. )
(edited by Lox.1089)
I’m also a fan of the wig theory. It certainly explains why their hair disappears completely with some of the cultural hats, and why they have an unnatural hair line.
I suspect they have hair envy and don’t want to admit that other species have an edge of follicle superiority.
