As it is now, only damage counts towards any kind of progression, like kills and events, and this is working very bad.

In it’s current state and based on what the devs have said about the future, this game is in no way any WoW killer.

So no, you are just using the attunements as an excuse when the fact still is that Elementlists is NOT balanced.
This Aoeing and using catapults to blast people off doors needs to quit. Its a grafix Issue that people exploit. they set up Catapults and Blaistas on a keep door inside get LOS with their char and use that to keep people off when the balista and catapult shoots at nothing. This is why there is arrow carts for indirect LOS in keeps.
Funny how you DON’T mention the AE that the attackers are doing, making it more or less impossible for the defenders to repair the door.

We have an entire element devoted to healing and water combo fields. Spec into a little healing power and profit.
Out of curiosity, how often do your heals cause a loot bag to drop in WvW? I love to support my world, but it seems to be costing me badges.
It doesn’t. Healing don’t generate any kind of contribution towards kills and/or events.

Some of you are really missing the issue if you think that forcing us to be in turtle spec with turtle gear should be needed to beat other classes in their glass cannon specs..
But it’s not like Warriors are low damage, not compared to us atleast.

Check Karma vendors in Orr Temple events and some Dungeon Vendors. And last you can check the WvW vendors in the WvW zones that sell that gear for Karma.
But 3 completely different sources is almost nothing…
If you want real tanky gear, go for pow/vit/tough.

No, it’s not relevant. As long as you contribute with healing and/or buffs, they should count towards progession in events and kills. It should not be limited to damage. It’s all a part of the actual contribution, and hence should be part of the mechanical contribution.
There is no reason for it to be like it is now. Except if they don’t want people to teamplay that is…
Using a invisible bag (which I am, several) is not a sollution. The main issue here is going from dual wield to a 2hd weapon, which makes one weapon end up in your normal bag.
This change would make the Elementalist more fun to play without messing with any kind of balance…

I don’t know what you guys are on. I told you I do use other skills/combos.
But either way it doesn’t matter since it’s not even relevant to the topic. The issue here is to get healing to be values as participation in events and killing, not to discuss the different ways you can play your healer.

I use all combos that are available to me, and even after all that #1 Water on Staff is also healing, and without cooldown.
There is no “free” time where I don’t focus on getting my team/group healed.

It’s ok to have to swap weapons out of combat, but it being an inventory issue is not ok…

EDIT: Title got messed up. Main question was why can we focus on healing when we get nothing for it?
I know that this game tries to get rid of the “holy trinity”, but either way, there still are ways to become both a tank or a healer. And when it comes to healing us Elementalists are especially strong at that, but still it does NOT count as contribution.
I just played for 2 hrs as a healer specced Elementalist in WvW trying to do what was “best” for my server. And sure, we had a lot of progress that would most likely have not been possible without my support!
But still. I got like 5 badges over a constant fighting for 2 hrs. And more or less any “ticks” from attacking or defending anything.
Really. Is this how you want it? Trying to remove the holy trinity by punishing them for their chosen playstyle, even thou you made that playstyle available?!?!
Most Elementalists have never seriously played another class… So they don’t know what’s really going on.

As title suggests, this would help Elementalists, without making us “overpowered”.
I switch between S/D and Staff alot, but always out of combat, since that is the only way to do it, and I would love for a feature that allowed us to do this without having to mess around in our inventory. (dualwield -> 2hd = “good” weapon at the top of the bags)
I added the word “please” in the topic, and I hope it’s enough to not get it removed for “Threads that make demands are not allowed. Please refrain from such posts in the future. You’re welcome to make a thread in the Suggestions forum.”

But it seems something might have changed with last patch, I’m not being able to avoid falling damage in the same ways anymore, but I am currently ingame testing, so will see, but looks like some things changed anyway, which in turn made skills like Lightning Flash less interesting to have.
Can you enlighten us please? Apparently you are so smart and we are the fools as you said! You can play an ele and we cannot. Can you tell us the trick how you do it? Traits, gears, runes, build? Or you are to selfish to share?

Pretty sure you can find more or less everything on this forum, including everything I’ve talked about. Eitherway I never make any “walkthrus” on how to do things, I just hint and hope that people manage to figure things out themselves.
But the fact is that most people don’t seem to grasp how GW2 really works. Like how most don’t know how to maximise a staff build due with massive amounts of combos.

Or how casting really works and that skills like Lightning #1 on scepter continues to channel even thou you cast Lightning #2 and/or #3 during it.
When people start to consider these things they will see alot of new posibilities opening up, they just need to get rid of the old MMO thinking that exists from games like WoW.
I mean if that was the case, you realise there’s a difference in having to use a utility slot to do what the other classes achieve through traits.

Guess what? Other classes usually don´t need to use one of theirs very good survival/mobility skills to land a dmg :-)
That’s not really the issue. The issue is what we can do and what we cant do, and too many people say that elementalists can’t do alot of things, that they actually can do if played/specced/geared right…

Second, you have no idea if its my fault or not. I believe you made a comment about another poster “making a fool of himself”, how about you don’t do that.
I didn’t say our attacks never hit. I said they are easy to avoid. Even if we root a player they can break out of it and just walk away. I have to cast for 5 seconds to get churning earth off. As an elementalist that is a long time to stand still and stay alive.
This tells me you are not playing an elementalist to its fullest potential. And yes, it is your fault when the damage doesn’t hit, but the information you provide explains why. You just haven’t seen the potential of everything.
I can get a churning earth off on my chosen targets more or less every time, without risk for my life, interruption or them avoiding it. Solo.

As an Ele` I`m always casting one or twelve sparkles, we`re squishie enough without not trying to hit things
Chain Lightning has no splash damage, fireball hits further because it does.
As I said, splash damage and improved AE radius goes a LONG way with fireball.
And I’m just curious, did you actually try to hit him yourself with a fireball, or did you just watch the red distance bar under the spell to decide what you can or can’t do?

The problem is trying to get people to stand still in a meteor shower or churning earth.

Currently all of our damage means nothing when our big damage skills are so easily avoided.
It’s you that let the players avoid the spell. Think outside of the box…
Overall, the biggest problem with elementalists is that people don’t understand how to play them. Or rather, they don’t understand how to play GW2.
WvW against probably a lvl 10 player, isn’t the best proof. Sorry.
Next time take a screenshot of the damage you took before you faceplant the ground by a lvl 80 theif. LMAO

I never said anything about the state of the elementalist nor did I ever try to pretend that we wont get kitten by a thief that knows what he is doing.

This is a rather glaring oversight by ANet.
I don’t think it is. I think it’s intended, and personally I’ve never had an issue with it.
