Well, he does have a point. The new elite traits are better than the old traits, and I think they need to be ner.. adjusted a bit.
I’m asking because mine feels broken. With HoT I just can’t seem to find a playstyle that is working for me. It’s like: “Oh, hello Mr. Scrapper. That’s a nice stack of Might and boons you got there. Could you please wait while I summon my phantasms, no?”, and Bam! Dead.
What is a good spec. for WvW now? Give me something to try, I’m out of ideas.
Reason I went Dire is because of those hard spikes (and OP setups on other elites) out there.
In large scale I’d go full glass with chrono and wells. Same play as always, diving in and out to burst/dump skills. Only now you’re actually offering something with your wells instead of just downing an unsuspecting pawn and having him ranged down/trained there’after.
Dire armor seems to help quite a lot. I don’t really feel comfortable with Chrono yet, but a couple of dire armor pieces was enough to keep me alive through most initial bursts with my old spec.

Sounds like you’re in a good place now. In case you want to try a different condi build, this is what I’ve been roaming with. It seems to work fine (I have no stealth to escape from groups).
I can solo two of the towers. The necro is brutal trying to solo with this build. Haven’t tried the fourth one.
This looks interesting. Certainly different from what I’ve been playing. Thanks for the tip, I’ll give it a try!
To answer my own question: I changed to a power spec. and found life much easier. The rabid armor goes to my necromancer, who can get the same amount of kills while one hand is drinking coffee.
Feels like these so called “elite” specs are ruling WvW now after HoT and I am getting chopped down much faster than before. I used to be able to survive for a bit to get conditions up and running, but that just doesn’t seem like a viable playstyle anymore.
I see power burst specs and running away specs all over the place.. should I change stats and spec for WvW or is there still room for condition damage?
Are there any recipes that require ascended crafting materials, that can be traded? My bank slots are filling up with Dragonite Ore etc. It would be really nice if they could be turned into something useful, and I have more Vision crystals than I am ever going to need.
Are there any viable WvW roaming condition builds using staff and clones? Clones seem to just die the second I spawn them now.. So much have changed in a couple of months while I was gone.. still hoping it can be possible to adapt.
No, it’s just you.
And me. Can’t seem to find a build that suits any of my old playstyles, and the old trait system did give a lot more options to play around with, to make a unique build that wasn’t necessarily the “best”, but fun to play.
Now it seems, more than ever, than it is all about burst damage and textbook builds.
If you receive angry whispers, that means you did well.
Mesmer
- Illusionary Leap: Removed the ability to use this skill in midair.
Another nerf to a reportedly OP class and an OP skill.
My build heavily relies on using this skill in midair. Now I have to completely rethink my tactics
I spent all my WvW ability points on cannons, not realizing that they are rarely accessible and get obliterated in a few seconds after they are up. Now, while I am waiting for the next possible respec, are there any places in WvW where I can make use of my (ill) spent cannon points?
I got logged out with a message saying that I was “disconnected because someone else logged into this account”. I changed my password just to be safe, but is this a known bug?
As far as I have been able to tell it is completely random, or 33% chance for each of the 3 conditions.
Also in WvW, if you spawn clones with winds of chaos on an enemy, chance of killing the nearest moose is 110%.
I read that some people (mesmers) had problems with this boss as it instantly kills illusions. Here is a video to show how easily it can be done if you, like me, are condition geared. Basically bleeds on clone death, chaos storm and clone spam and he dies pretty fast.
Use the “on clone death” traits, since they die the moment they are spawned. And just spawn clones around the boss like crazy.
Thank you for your help!
I managed to finished the Monthly half an hour before the time ran out, mostly by farming dolyaks (as events) in WvW and the 50 kills came fast when I jumped on a train.
Phew.
When does the time run out for the monthly achievements? And what achievements would be the easiest to get in a few hours of playtime?
I have been using the linked build since the beginning on my mesmer. Not the most effective build as it is now, but it is very fun to play. I have tried a lot of other specs, but I always fall back on this one.
It should be a lot better with the upcoming changes. Looking forward to such a patch! Hopefully clones will also stop having wildlife as their top priority targets some sunny day…
WvW trains should get their speed buffs removed, maybe when there are more than 10 people within 600 range or something. No?
Norn Guardian: “Bubba Lupp”
Charr Engineer: “Ren Tarench”
I hope they add more options to salvage all of the stuff that keeps filling up those bags.. but why whould they, when bag slots costs real money and that is what the world is made of..
Oh, I thought you could just buy all of the mats required. Thanks for clearing that up. I had a chest drop once, contains one piece of Ascended gear but with the “wrong” stats… what do I do with that? Can’t trade it it seems.
What is the cheapest way to get the best gear now? Do you buy gold with gems and make the armor yourself? How much would it cost to equip a character in full ascended gear?
Bloodlust seems to have killed more than GvG. I just logged in to find our Borderlands deserted, played for 10 minutes without seeing any other player and didn’t get any response on map chat.
I have noticed that a lot of people are complaining about the Bloodlust buff that you get from securing they key points in the middle of the new Battlegrounds. Here is one idea on how this could be improved, so that everyone could be happy.
We all love to PvE so there should be a huge mount doom of lava in the middle, a volcano that periodically burst and can remotely hit and break all siege all over the map. Then there could be a champion Charr wizard at the top that, if you kill him, give a bonus that make you immune to lava so that you can climb in the volcano and drop down. And that’s where the fun begins in the snowmans cave where there could be a huge snowballfight, with npc’s and players and kids. The one that wins the snowballfight gets to meet Santa boss which must be downed solo or in a zerg, giving your team a buff that will freeze other players (like chill, only 12 seconds) when you hit them. But only until lava hits from mount doom, that should break the chill so that it won’t be an unfair fight. And if you kill a frozen player that is burning with lava, then you get 30 seconds of Bloodlust.
Doesn’kitten Does not it? Does it not?
Yes, it does look good on paper doesn’kitten Problem is that we already had time to test it, and it didn’t really work out as planned..
I found jumping around the apple trees to be great fun, trying to break enemies line of sight. And the underwater canal combat rocks, everybody is doing it!
I think people get frustrated with the new Bloodlust that buffs the already stronger World. They play for a few minutes and then log off. Yesterday we had problems getting more than 10 people together for taking a tower, and got stomped by a much larger Bloodlust herd.
With a controversial update like this, which has quite a huge impact on the gameplay in WvW, I think it would be fair if you could give all players a one time reset on their World Ability Points.
Any chance of this happening?
Are Eternal Battlegrounds free of this new disease?
Come on guys it can’t be 100% bad can it? I see negative things everywhere and not one positive post anywhere. I’m sure some people are enjoying the ~150 server wide stat gap now. Can we get some posts that point out the advantages to blood lust?
I got one: More time to play GTA V until they fix it.
Logged in to find that we had absolutely 0 camps, towers or garrison on our server Rampaging team had all the ruins too.
No, I do not like this update. I think it was a terrible idea, sorry.
With the addition of Ascended gear and grind, I believe many players have simply left their alts to die. I used to play a lot on my other characters, exploring all over the map, but sadly all I do now is grind with my main.
- Tab targeting now prioritizes players over npcs (including minions)(mesmer clones are an exception).
Also: Mesmer clones spawned from Deceptive Evasion will still see rabbits and moose as top priority targets. We are also working hard to include mice in this rotation.
Thank you for your input. I am finding it hard to keep all my clones up if I don’t have DE. Although I really, really miss IC (from being an adapt trait) I find it harder to stay alive without DE.
I have sometimes been using 0/10/25/0/25, but the joy of throwing a Chaos Storm and Temporal Curtain into a zerg had me sold on BI.
The non-traited focus would require me to go 20 points into Inspiration, and I don’t really see how I could do that and retain my playstyle. Where would I take those points? Going for iDuelist perhaps? I’ll chew on that for a bit..
Sword/sword sounds like a viable combo too without too much change.
(I am using Corruption sigils on my sword/focus atm, I just forgot to add them into the build.)
This is the build that I am using, relying heavily on confusing enemies with clones while applying bleed stacks:
I think some people refer to this as an “Old School” condition build, but since it is a build that I came to use by trial and error myself I don’t know if it fits that bracket.
The build works very well for me, and it is FUN to play. I am using it both in PvE and in WvW. However, it would also be nice to hear other people’s opinion on the choices I have made. So, what do you think about the build or what would you change about it?
Ascended gear has to be the worst implementation ever to Guild Wars 2. It completely undermines the ideology behind the game and shatters the promises that were made a year ago.
I truly hope it will not destroy the game I love, and I hope for some golden fixes to be invented to revert the incoming damage. Perhaps you could make Ascended Gear different than Exotics, rather than better, that would help a lot for starters.
Does it trigger on daze (Chaos Storm)?
I don’t know when it came to this, but current game mechanics (and limitations) has brought WvW into a sad state. The gameplay seems to consist solely of getting into a large a group as possible to “stack” and then roam around in this blob, spamming skills.
It doesn’t require much in terms of strategy or “skill” for the single player, and the efforts of the blob as a whole gives little satisfaction in terms of rewarding gameplay. It’s a mess to look at, and not the game I signed up to play.
This is hardly the way the developers intended the fights in WvW to evolve, and I really hope the problem can be addressed. What do you more hardened WvW veterans think about this?
Best counter against stealth is.. Stealth. Decoy and Mass Invisibility. The new Prismatic Understanding is quite good too, though few people use it in favor of Shattered Strength.
The purpose of Deceptive Evasion is to kill small animals that are overly populated, like rabbits or owls. Your enemy will then be confused as to why you are suddenly attacking a small animal in the middle of an intense fight.
as a mesmer i think anyone can see how this MINOR trait is insane OP right now, this even it was a elite trait would be OP but a minor trait? please just nerf this or otherwise soon everyone will play mesmer.
make it only 3 stack might full shatter, 9 stack might is just insane for a MINOR trait….
As a thief I think anyone can see how this “minor” trait is 25 points deep into the Illusions traitline, and does not easily apply to all mesmer builds. It is a timely buff for a class that has many bugs and have been left out for too many patches.
Maybe they should just give everyone a free “movement” utility slot, reserved for skills related to movement and speed buffs. Like the healing utility slot, but for speed.
Same build I’ve been using for some time now. Works pretty good but I’m still on edge whether I should swap the scepter for a sword or not.
I’m constantly switching between sword and scepter myself
Just thought I would share my current build, probably not the “best build” but really fun to play. The key to playing this build effectively is to hide among your clones and mimic their behavior. Use stealth and blink as soon as your enemy spots you.

Gear suggestion: full rabid gear, 2 water runes and 2 monk runes plus 2 pirate runes for long lasting boons. Or just undead runes if you want to go all out damage.
I feel that our Downed skill “Deception” is a bit broken in its current state. All it does now is to confuse allies that try to resurrect you.
