Update: This problem is still in the game with the current Aug 6 patch.

I recently had to format and reinstall my OS (Win 7), reinstalled the game fresh, and installed new graphics drivers (currently using an nVidia GTX 560 TI) I don’t think it’s my computer causing this issue however, since it still does not occur with any other game.

Flaw with the Skin item system

Lylandrissabelle.5463

I don’t know about everyone else, but when you earn account bound skins, wouldn’t it be nice to get a PvP version as well as PvE version so you don’t have to choose between them? This is a dilemma I grow tired of every time skins are released, and I tolerate it because typically there’s a way to earn as many as you desire even if it’s blocked with heavy RNG. Shortly however the Zenith items will be rolling out via achievement chests, it looks like we’ll have a very limited supply. I’m happy that I have well over the amount of points needed to acquire them, but we only get to pick two. Personally I’d love to have the longbow and torch items, but since I enjoy both PvP and PvE, I don’t get to have both in both places. I can only have one item in both places, or two different items in one place, or… you get the idea.

Broken Frame Limiter

Lylandrissabelle.5463

This seems to happen every other patch. When the frame limiter is set to 60, it instead locks the framerate at 32. My display refreshes at 60 fps, so I’d rather not have the graphics card work overtime if it doesn’t have to. Fresh system reboots will rarely fix it, but it always reverts back sooner or later upon changing zones or some other trigger. Feel free to reply if you have the same issue, due to the random nature of this bug I cannot really tell if it’s my computer or the game itself, but I don’t have an issue with frame limiters in other games.

I really do want to use this weapon, I figured the new animation for crippling strike was a glitch and would be patched in one of these hotfixes, but if this is working as intended I will end up using sword even less than I did before the patch. It may be nitpicky but a large part of why I play the game still is because of how things look and feel.

Going to start off by saying, love the new Warrior changes and especially mainhand sword changes! However I have issues with the animations.

Crippling Strike’s downward slash seems a bit rigid, is it the same animation used for Pommel Bash? and the big swoosh effect at the end doesn’t seem fitting like it was for Final Thrust.

Final Thrust’s animation is very sluggish, and doesn’t use the big swoosh effect at all!
I suppose the speed could be a balance issue, but it’s really missing the flavor from that special effect (that was designed to be used with Final Thrust in the first place)

As we all know, Guild Wars 2 is a game that places aesthetic in high regard. That being said I still run into the odd clipping or see through issue now and then with a new piece of armor that wasn’t immediately present, and I’m sure others have as well. Let’s try to make a list with your race, type of armor, and what circumstances it appears. Pictures of the problem a bonus! I’ll start off with ones I found recently:

I play as female Norn.

The first armor (PvP Seer, or Generic level 70-80 Exotic with many names) seems to have a missing polygon, the character is completely see through at the circled point.

The second armor (PvP Whispers Garb… or Whispers Garb) has no immediate problems, until the elbows bend, then the arms clip straight through.

Okay, your turn!

Apologies in advance if this concept/build has been done to death already, just want to post a build I made a while ago and had a lot of success with.

greatsword + sword/dagger Ranger

Not a whole lot to be said in the way of tactics

- Abuse hilariously low cooldowns on weapon skill evades & blocks (Greatsword #1[3rd attack in chain], Greatsword #4, Sword #2, Sword #3, Dagger #4)

- Use leap finishers into your water field for even more massive heals (Sword #2, Greatsword #3)

- Conditions practically non-existent with Signet of Renewal, Healing Spring, Empathetic Bond

- Maintain Protection through dodging after weapon skill evades, replenish evade juice with the dagger sigil and your heal’s vigor effect

- Raven does massive auto attack damage, and heavy spike damage with F2 skill, Panther has 100% crit chance while maintaining stealth, on top of already amazing damage (Use Greatsword #5 for even higher pet damage) Pet damage being reduced in the next patch maybe, though it could still be decent afterward.

This build has been pretty good overall in SPVP and TPVP, destroys most builds and even other rangers with relative ease if you utilize good timing. Bunker Guardians and Engineers may end up being a snoozefest though.

Enjoy!

League of Legends in general is very different from GW2, nor is it managed by NCSoft or ArenaNet, personally I think more comparisons could be drawn to Team Fortress 2 in the PVP gameplay and microtransaction departments but that’s besides the point.

What I mean is that you don’t want to turn people off to the game before they even begin, they may not bother downloading it, and if they do download it, then find out they cannot do much besides the absolute bare bones, they may just uninstall it and move on. Make new players feel that they want to pay because they liked what the game had to offer, and would like the bonuses for people that have already paid as I mentioned in previous posts.

If you want to get more people interested in the game I don’t think forcing them to wear stock skins is going to do it.

New PVPers are already forced to wear stock skins, paid or free, until they earn new ones. That’s appealing to some people, they want to show off their PVP prowess.

Reward people that have paid with unique skins, don’t punish people that haven’t paid at all, they’ll just dismiss the game and move on to something else if you force them to wear what is basically a dunce hat. Entering PVP this late is already punishing enough for people that are new.

I think it’s a great idea, would definitely help revitalize SPVP.

But then there needs to be some kind of addition for people that paid full price for the game. I think making it so F2P players could only wear F2P gear is silly, they should be able to rank up and open chests like anybody else. That being said, people who paid full price for the game and care very little for PVE if at all have been neglected as far as shiny items (and content in general) are concerned. There should be skins that can only be earned though SPVP and are designed with SPVP in mind, especially considering legendary weapons will most likely remain exclusive to PVE. These skins could be based on the rank animal, for example, “Dolyak Shield”, “Tiger Greatsword” etc. that can only be earned by being the corresponding rank. They should also be able to be applied to a PVE weapon should you desire.

Burst Skills Cause Deep Wound

in Warrior

Posted by: Lylandrissabelle.5463

Lylandrissabelle.5463

If they do bring back deep wound condition I think it should be redesigned for GW2

Make it a condition that causes 1% maximum health reduction, stacks intensity up to 25%. various warrior skills could apply it in differing amounts of stacks & lengths. For example, Eviscerate and Kill Shot could deal 20 stacks for a short time, Arcing Slice could deal 10 stacks for a long time, and maybe the sword auto attack could deal 2 stacks on Gash for a moderate amount of time, instead of the 2 stacks of bleed that it has now, just to give it slightly more variety.

Would be tricky to balance though, because if it stacks too easy then anybody you face effectively only has 3/4 of their total health to work with, and if it’s too hard to stack then it’s worthless, but, standing next to a warrior in melee should be a mistake rather than a joke in most situations.

Definitely agree. To add to that, make it so it only releases a small flame and smoke puff from the end instead of the huge blast with floating embers, though it’s more an aesthetic issue it would enhance the style of this weapon. The Whisper’s Secret Rifle shares a very similar skin as well.

Now, off to the next:

Second Build: Sword+Shield & Longbow

The first thing you’ll notice is that this build is nearly identical. While it’s true that they share similar play style, I will note the key differences below, as well as more tips and tricks for this altered build.

Condition Damage – this build is more damage oriented than stun oriented, however by utilizing a Shaman amulet instead of a Cleric amulet, you get even further amplified toughness as well as respectable healing power.

Tactics 10:
IV – Stronger Bowstrings. You have no more Eartshaker to set up, and you’ve already got a much more powerful immobilize (Longbow #5, Sword burst) Might as well reach out and touch further away targets.

“I’ve lost my beautiful stun chain!”

We’ll still be chaining burst skills, but in a different fashion. Combustive Shot (Longbow burst) can be chained beautifully with Pin Down (Longbow #5) and Flurry (Sword burst) to deadly effect. The flow would look something like this assuming you have plenty of adrenaline already built up:

Pin Down —-> Combustive Shot (switch weapon, On My Mark!, For Great Justice!) —-> Savage Leap (Sword #2) —-> Flurry

This combo will force your target to be burned alive while bleeding out for heavy damage. Not as heavy as with a full glass cannon condition damage build, but still respectable. Auto attack as needed with Sword #1 for additional bleeds.

“My shouts are healing for less!”

Only slightly less, and the new Life sigil on your shield will make up for the loss in healing power after a few kills.

Travel quickly! Savage Leap can be used to rapidly exit danger or cross large distances. Disable Autotargetting in the options, lose your target, and fly away!

Don’t forget about Sword #3 in the heat of combat, it causes a quick cripple which can make life much easier.

Might! Arcing Arrow (Longbow #3) can be launched into your Combustive Shot to grant everybody in the field a long lasting might effect.

“How do I deal with stealth in this altered build?”

Combustive Shot, Combustive Shot, Combustive Shot

Shield Stance

Combustive Shot is one of the largest and most effective AoEs in the game.

Combustive Shot.

This concludes the Sword+Shield & Longbow build, and the post as a whole.

Enjoy!

Highly resilient PvP builds!

in Warrior

Posted by: Lylandrissabelle.5463

Lylandrissabelle.5463

Tips & Tricks:

Switch weapons often, switch weapons wisely. Your leech sigils on the weapons activate every time weapons are swapped and transfer health directly from your opponent to you. This effect is made doubly effective with the Discipline 15 trait.
However, don’t switch if you are at low health and there are no defensive or crowd control abilities left on your other weapon.

Chaining stuns. This build has six different stun, daze, and knockback effects at its disposal. Shouting for adrenaline means you can activate your mace and hammer burst skills in a very short amount of time. The flow of a chain stun might look something like this if you already have enough adrenaline to activate one burst skill:

Pommel Bash —-> Skull Crack —-> Shield Bash (switch weapon, use On My Mark! & For Great Justice!) —-> Earthshaker —-> Backbreaker —-> Staggering Blow

Chaining these stuns can spell doom for glass cannon builds, and for anybody else if you are teamed up with a heavy DPS player. Mastering these stun chains are key to the build, they will help you last longer and kill opponents easier. Stuns can be mixed in a number of ways, and be wary that some stun skills cancel others, wait for their durations to be nearly done before activating the next for maximum effect.

Apply weakness as often as you can. the third skill in the auto attack chain for mace (Pulverize), and the Hammer #2 skill (Fierce Blow) will further increase your survivability by causing your enemy to deal glancing blows.

“How do I deal with stealth?”

A preemptive Earthshaker or Staggering blow can catch stealthed thieves in particular off guard. Using your Mace #2 block or Shield #5 block can absorb blows and Basilisk Poison. If you are hit with Basilisk Poison and Shake It Off! is ready, break the stun and then stun them back immediately.

To heal, or to stun? Deciding whether it’s best to heal and cleanse conditions on yourself, or to set up your massive stun combo is another key to mastering this build. Sometimes you can do both, but not always.

That concludes the Hammer and Mace+Shield build!

Highly resilient PvP builds!

in Warrior

Posted by: Lylandrissabelle.5463

Lylandrissabelle.5463

Want to last more than 10 seconds? Then I’ve got some builds for you!

I should start off by saying that these builds are designed for staying in a group fight and still contributing without dying immediately or only being useful when frenzy is ready to be popped. These builds are also designed after becoming bored with greatswords and axes, so these weapons are not utilized in any way. They are designed for supporting yourself & teammates with heavy healing and condition removal while still dishing out moderate damage and plenty of crowd control effects. After over 950 matches played as Warrior, I found these to be both entertaining and efficient, and I hope you do as well!

Let’s get started:

I’ll go over the key traits, optional traits, and some tactics you can use for each build.

First build: Hammer & Mace+Shield

Defense 10:
V – Missile Deflection. Pretty straight forward, will cause ranged attackers to start destroying themselves while you are blocking (Mace skill #2, Shield skill #5) Particularly useful against rifle warriors, pistol thieves, pistol engineers, phantasmal duelist.

Optional: II – Dogged March. A new addition to our traits, will add some more survivability when you gain regeneration after being snared.

Defense 20:
You have a few options here. I personally prefer IX – Shield Master for more toughness and reduced shield cooldowns. You can take X – Merciless Hammer or VIII – Last Stand based on your preference.

Tactics 10:
I – Leg Specialist. Excellent for setting up Earthshaker or simply chasing someone at low health

Tactics 20:
VIII – Lung Capacity. Self explanatory, you get to shout more often, and thus heal, remove conditions, and stun break more often.

Tactics 30:
XII – Vigorous Shouts. Shouts heal. For a lot. Each of your shouts will heal roughly 2000 health with a cleric amulet equipped. This build utilizes 3 shouts with very short cooldowns, allowing you to recover up to 6k health rapidly, and 12.5k including your healing skill. Any allies within range will also benefit.

Discipline 10:
IV – Inspiring Shouts. Your shouts will grant massive amounts of adrenaline, which is excellent for setting up stun combos, which I will discuss in more detail shortly.

Discipline 20:
X – Mobile Strikes. Fairly simple, any skill – weapon or utility – that causes you to move from your current position will also remove the immobilize condition. (Earthshaker, Shield #4, and in the next build, Sword #2)

One shameless bump to add:

I think all items of this nature should be an account upgrade, fun features should be fun to use, especially if it’s required to exchange currency for them, be it gold or real money. I believe people would be much more inclined to buy them if it wasn’t such a hassle to transfer them between characters to activate them, as it is now I am far less likely to buy anything else in the future. Perhaps add a claim rewards command similar to GW1, allowing us to copy items that are account bound by default like this to other characters. I realize this is probably a non issue for people sitting on mountains of gold that they can convert to gems, but for people like me that just do a little crafting, convert some pvp materials into dyes for money, or decide to buy a small gem store card on a whim while we’re out and about, it would make future gem store purchases more appealing.

A lot of warrior utilities deserve a second look ; ). But yeah, even as it is now, a 4 second damage immunity on a 90 second cooldown is already highly situational. The GW1 version was able to stay on for up to 18 seconds, so I think a compromise could be met if they did switch it to a health boost, perhaps 8 or even 12 seconds, especially considering the nature of some builds on other classes designed around boon duration.

They could also make it work like it worked in GW1: grant a temporary, massive maximum health boost. This would effectively help against conditions and normal damage sources, but wouldn’t make you immune and would still allow you to heal up. However if you end up being below the amount of health granted by Endure Pain when it ends, you would simply go into downed state immediately.

I don’t plan on having the book take up inventory space and I’m certainly not going to purchase a separate one for each character.

I’m creating this topic immediately after purchasing one because the wording seemed to imply I just needed to use it once per character and then I could activate it later at any time, as my character had been “taught” the dances.

Norn – Havroun, call upon the spirits of the wild to aid friends and smite foes

Human – Dervish (this class was always based heavily on human gods)

Asura – Some sort of magitek seems appropriate.

Sylvari – Druid-like, maybe called Naturalist to seem slightly more original (though this idea might overlap with Ranger too much.)

Charr – This one’s more difficult, there’s already the Warrior and Engineer, both of which already fit Charr perfectly.

Stealth and why it reduces depth and skill

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lylandrissabelle.5463

Have to agree, especially since every thief encounter has devolved into fighting either a d/p black powder/heartseeker spammer, or a p/d bleed/cloak & dagger spammer. However there’s now a new evolution of the thief: the larcenous strike spammer.

But let’s not forget Mesmers. Heck, they can even attack while maintaining stealth, as phantasms do not count as an attack apparently.

Whenever stealth comes into play, it just becomes a ridiculous guessing game. Or waiting game if you have no dodge juice & aoes left.

Frequent lag spikes, about half of the spvp matches I’ve joined so far have major & constant hiccups, this doesn’t seem to be the case with tpvp, so I’m assuming it’s linked to the spectator mode

Skills that simply absorb projectiles also help as well

Warrior: shield 5, sword 5, mace 2 (all of these cause reflection with the V trait under Defense)

Ranger: greatsword 4, axe 5

Thief: Smoke Screen, Dagger Storm (this one is tricky, the grenades need to physically hit your character before hitting the ground or you will suffer damage)

Elementalist: (earth) staff 3, (air) focus 4

Stealth.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Lylandrissabelle.5463

Lylandrissabelle.5463

In its current state, Stealth is a relatively common buff that circumvents the standardized Boon & Condition system introduced to Guild Wars 2. For any class that directly applies stealth to itself, there’s little to no fear of retaliation. Monsters simply disengage, and players are reduced to using guesswork until it wears off. In addition, there are several different types of Stealth that count as separate buffs and don’t stack even though they all do the same thing (If you’ve ever tried to stack Mass Invisibility with Shadow Refuge, you know what I mean.)

My suggestions?

*Make Stealth a boon -

Not only will this allow for Stealth to be modified by boon duration runes and traits, a player in Stealth will have to be wary of effects that strip boons.

*Make Revealed a condition, make it apply any time something leaves Stealth -

Currently a player can Stealth at any time they please if they choose to not use an action to leave Stealth. This will reward players for stacking Stealth duration while maintaining Stealth instead of dancing in and out of stealth at their leisure. Making Revealed a condition would also add an opportunity for Monster and Utility skills that directly counter stealth by causing the Revealed condition, and reward players further for bringing condition removal effects.

My hope is that these changes would allow for more standardization and tactical depth regarding Stealth in both PVE and PVP, reward players for utilizing Stealth effectively, and reduce frustration for people who encounter Stealth spam.

GW2 vs Traditional MMO, why leveling is bad.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Lylandrissabelle.5463

Lylandrissabelle.5463

I have to agree, the traditional level system is a relic that does not belong in GW2, and the decision to have 4x more levels than GW1 was completely arbitrary and serves no purpose other than to gate content that you would otherwise might enjoy if you didn’t view it as a chore. I look at zones by their level now instead of what there is to explore, or what I accomplished there. I feel no stronger defeating a level 80 monster than I did with level 10 monsters, and having numbers scale up so high is pointless other than to sate people that enjoy 4+ digit damage numbers. Capping levels at 10 or 20 would be ideal in my opinion, since you have most or all of your weapon skills by then, and have the hang of combat. Or just removing levels all together.
