Idea: A true random dungeon.

Just name it “Madman’s Maze” and you get “reason” to it be all weird and messed up x)

Idea is fine though, randomness can be fun and probably would be more pleasant place to go for those people, which hate usual routine skip, stack and spam tactics. :P

5 Diffrent rep chats? and one guild?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Maethril.9586

I actually would have loved to have possibility of seeing multiple guild chats, when I was still playing this.

Due I had multiple guilds where I was in.
One for WvW, second for hanging out & everyday chats, third for personal bank space and randomly fourth for hanging out when second guild was having long silent periods due inactivity etc.

Now they’re bringing chance to represent more your main guild, while you can still see and know what your other guilds are doing. Which allows much more flexible way to balance between all those.

Overall crying over “old school” guild system in GW2 is quite stupid, I can sort of understand it, but stupid still.
Because GW2 guilds don’t have similar meaning than most MMOs. They’re more of a “flavors of the moment/day” things.
For example “feeling like doing some WvW today”, rep WvW guild and go on.
“Feeling like doing some casual pveish day with cozy chatting”, rep main guild. Etc.

Guilds just don’t have similar meaning here, it used to be even worse in the past when PVE guilds didn’t have absolutely anything to do together, or common cause.
Just running along Tyria looking for DE trains.

Still my main suggestion is that if you want 100% representation guilds back, with only options “stay or leave” switch game, most other MMOs are still stiff in this way, which is fine. Since they do have a lot stable guild needing content, like raids and such.

Also: do you know Final Fantasy 14 have more players than Guild Wars 2? How old is Final Fantasy 14 compare to Guild Wars 2?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_massively_multiplayer_online_role-playing_games

not according to Wiki. Unless you have some newer information.

Not to say that your post is invalid, or that I’m disagreeing with you. It’s just that if you talk numbers you should give us citations as from where

It shows 2.5 mil users, though just little over month ago or so FFXIV celebrated having now 4 million users. Thus info in that wikipedia link is outdated.

GW2 vs. FF-XIV

Better scaling system – I don’t agree. I hated how you scaled automatically to maps lvl when you entered it. Wasn’t fun to mudwrestle 3 drunken lvl 5 rats for 5mins with lvl 80 full exotics character. While in FFXIV you one shot them with lvl cap character.

I never enjoyed the boss fights in ff14 since the bosses are pretty much stationary like in WoW. That part feels really outdated. Also the worst mapping system ever.

The scaling system helps keeps old areas still challenging and relevant. I hated how in WoW that all the awesome areas were completely deserted after an expansion. It’s not perfect, but its a step in the right direction imo.

Plus most areas Are deserted in GW2, though current supermegagigaserver system does make it feel tad more alive.
Only alive areas usually are where people can do champ trains 24/7 and there isnt many of those.

I meant the bosses not the players and stacking wasn’t anet’s intention.

I just did a map completion and there were ppl in every map I was on.

Looking at your sig, why exactly are you still here?

I only come here to read grief texts and laugh at those when I’m bored. :P

Stationary? Really?
There you actually need to move around and often even keep bit distance to others in case of AoEs.

GW2 bosses, find funky corner, stay there stacked spam skills and dodge towards wall so you wont get owned 1 hit kill skill and keep at it until its dead. :P
Movement in GW2 is almost zero, dodge isn’t movement if you don’t really move when “dodging”, its more like utility skill “invulnerability for 2 seconds”.
IMO Anet should fix dodge so that if you dodge away for atk range it’s dodge, if you do “empty” roll without moving at all with 1 inch distance to boss you should get hit by it.

Plus most areas Are deserted in GW2, though current supermegagigaserver system does make it feel tad more alive.

GW2 vs. FF-XIV

Filaha.1678 pretty much nailed it.

Sure, GW2 also has its advantages like:

  • Better Combat System
  • Better Color System for Character Individualization
  • Has a Scaling System
  • Has the better playable Races with the exception of the Miqo’te, but thats just personal preference (I just love Neko Races <3 and the Charr don’t appeal to me as they look like the typical race, that otherwise a WoW player would play in WoW as Tauren, just a bit morte looking like Cats)
  • Better PvP/ WvW
  • Better Event System

but against this stands all this, what FF14 does better or provides, what GW2 doesn’t:

  • Supreme Housing (one of the nicest Housing Systems that I’ve ever seen so far)
  • Mount Raising
  • A way better Crafting System that isn’t just a borign click 1 Button and watch a Bar fill up-Crafting like in GW2
  • A much better Character Progression
  • Far more Emotes
  • Far more Dungeons
  • Far much more Monster Variety everywhere (you see there basically no copy pasted creatures, every place has its complete own different Monsters and creatures)
  • Much better Story Telling, there you just know, that the game comes from an experienced RPG Developer that is Square Enix from the first minute on
  • Much better advertising for the game with Teasers/Cinematics
  • Offers also lots of visual eye candy with awesome animated Cut Scenes, what is SE’s speciality about the FF games since decades
  • Offers Side Activities, like Gardening, Fishing
  • Has more epic looking Bosses that aren’t boring to fight, cause of them all doing different things and can’t be so cheesy easy killed, like for example the Shatterer.
Their big bosses all can move around and aren’t static
  • A better Stat System, where not just 1 Stat Combo is everything and where the Condition System sucks under that situation, like in GW2

TL/DR

Better Combat system – I disagree. Since it has clear differences between classes, DoTs actually works there. Only thing is mobility, some classes are rooted when using some long casting spells and such. But fighters, archers etc can move freely. Lacks dodge, but you don’t need it tbh.

Dyes and Gear Individualization – That’s true, I really missed GW2 dye system there, their feel quite limited after GW2.

Plus it would make hunting leathers, wools etc much more annoying for craftings.
FATEs (DEs) should automatically scale though, instead of choosing it. That’s bit annoying at times but still only scaling to those is IMO the best way to do it.
Dungeon scaling is automatic, so no difference in there.

Races – I don’t really agree, but races are about personal preference so can’t argue over it.

Better PVP/WvW – I agree.

Better events – Maybe a bit, since FFXIV seasonal events are possible to do in a day or so and rewards usually are just cosmetics like new clothes etc and quests for those aren’t hard. Other wise not really.

Like slamfunction.7462 compared GW2 and FFXIV as cars.
To me FFXIV is high maintenance cost Ferrari F430, gives epic pleasure with cost.
While GW2 is common low costs “sports” car Golf Wolksvagen, which gives okay ride but better not to expect thrills of 340km/h speeds in matter of seconds.

EDIT: Yea, musics in FFXIV are by far superior, especially in boss fights, but considering epic boss musics in all FF games in the past it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise.
Ty for pointing that too Crovax.

GW2 vs. FF-XIV

Personally I played GW2 for year. First couple months in pve heavy, leveled most classes and all craftings etc. It was fun, then got bored.
Decided to do WvW quite heavily for few months it was fun for while too.

Then at some point in my last couple months I realized dungeons became: skip skip stack, skip skip stack, dodge, skip skip stack, dodge.
Hated it.

Some point realized DEs became spam 11111111111111 to get gold, run to next DE to do same.
Hated it.

Some point realized WvW became stack, zerg, mass revive downed due someone killed someone, stack, zerg, mass revive downed.
Hated it too.

Craftings felt simple and somewhat rewarding at first, but some point it became pointless and costly due market flippers. Plus in a way it was too simple.

Then FFXIV came out, waited for month or so to see stuff about it. Been there since for over a year and never really looked back. I only come here to read grief texts and laugh at those when I’m bored. :P

FFXIV has pretty much everything I hope and expect from MMOs, nice world & story, great graphics, nice classes & races with clear differences with them.
Roles and tactics in team content. Great and working crafting system, private/guild housing, mounts.

Almost everything is possible to get by playing without massive DE grinds, guilds (free companies) actually has uses and some friendly community feel instead of “why our guilds are dying…. sobs”.
New content comes out quite stable pace, which even stays on the game. So all new dungeons and such doesn’t disappear after couple weeks.
Eventhough there is seasonal stuffs which do disappear, but appears again eventually so new players & slowpokes can do them too. But rewards usually are just cosmetics for vanity.

It isn’t most casual friendly, but can’t say that it’s overly hard either. Kinda works for most types of players. Personally i have leveled all 20 classes there and still haven’t gotten bored.

Only downside is that pvp content is quite boring there too, but at least they add things in to it every now and then. Considering it has pvp now with some variations of it, since at launch it didn’t even have it yet.

I’m somewhat poor and usually hate subscription based systems, but in my case FFXIV has been totally worth it so far. Paying 25€ for 2 months isn’t half bad, when you know that you get good game, good new content in stable pace and things do get fixed if there is something to fix and they even listen requests.

Still IMO if someone enjoys zerker zergfest then I’m not going to judge, just have fun with it. And if someone else (me) enjoys other type of game and content and is ready to pay for it every 2 months, then I should be allowed to enjoy of my choice as well.
It’s all about choices and preferences.

I don’t really see problem with this suggestion though, since it’s optional decoration after all, if someone wants to use it, then why the kitten not? :P

Anyway, my guess is that most people which would use this wouldn’t even have shield otherwise. 2 hand weapon users (hammers etc) or people with dual wielding. Then shield in their back as decoration does make slight sense.

I think it’s really neat how people who are branded “enemies” by the game, and can’t communicate with each other besides emotes, would choose to be nice instead of troll, since they were all just here for the puzzle anyway. Restores a little bit of faith in humanity, if I may say so.

Actually it’s possible (or at least was when I was still playing) to talk with enemies in WvW etc. Just target enemy and write /invite.
Or other way is clicking on the picture of the target character, his/her name will be added to the party request in the social tab. It should show up as “Green/Blue/Red invader” but still sends invite to right person.
I used it a lot when I had fun & good “duels” with enemies and usually thanked them for good match and talked for while just to chance pace.
Or if we were just chilling and eating popcorn while watching main zergs killing each others in the distance and making bets how it goes. :P

Made couple “friends” even in other servers that way.

Don’t know if it’s still possible though, haven’t touched this almost for half year.

RMT + Flippers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Maethril.9586

Maethril.9586

Easy way to stop all flippers, speculators and insider traders (like what happened to the crossing) make all tp purchases account bound = no more problems

That would be bad for the economy. Too much gold would be in-game, one of the largest gold sinks would be gone. Making money off the TP isn’t the problem, the people who think so are just mad about it. Flipping has benefited this game a ton. If all the gold stayed in the game you would be looking at precursors being 1000’s of gold a peice.

So add or increase another goldsink/cut gold supply…..

Adding more would be horrible, since over half of the game is practically goldsink supported with lottery.
When it comes to raising, then I guess raising TP tax fee would be okay, would take out or restrict some of those flippers at least.

Personally I hate flippers though, one guy I knew played one character to lvl 44 or 45, had saved up around 5g till then, flipped bit over week and had around 400g+.
Though I laughed my kitten off when he decided to quit GW2, because he calculated that if he had continued flipping he would have been rich enough to quit anyway after month or so and not having anything “interesting” to spend it (housing, mounts, anything OP gear etc). Thus decided to skip the game and not wasting month for average game.

expects to be max level and max gear in a day Nope.

Possible, as long as you have either a lot resources or money, preferably both.
Crafting -> less than day and you have max lvl character.
While you’re at it, you can use that Crafting to get old “best” gear, exotics in a day, possibly couple ascended ones to add up.

Personally I hate that leveling method, coz it’s for the rich and lazy, but it’s still there.

It was possible strictly through time investmest. My record for reaching max level was like 11 hours or something.

I never watched how long it takes, leveled one character to 1->80 with crafting less than day, just wanted to try it out if it’s possible like some people said.
Expensive though, especially nowadays.

EDIT: Gw1 wise it had way less levels too so I don’t find it that shocking if it was fast to get to cap, though I don’t have experience of that game. Wasn’t interested of it at all back then.

Tbh, I’m kinda surprised how little FFXIV:ARR is mentioned in these forums, since in my eyes it’s very much like hybrid of GW2 and WoW.
It has quite mobile combat (though not as much as GW2 or Neverwinter), due good “cross classing” and potion system even tank and dps classes can manage to be quite self sufficient in open world pve (though dungeons are still pure trinity).
DE’s, best of them actually require some teamwork, etc. Graphic wise I think it’s way better than GW2, mounts, guild housing, okay automatic group finder, etc.

Or is subscription to all GW2 players such massive boogeyman? Just curious.

Anyway I’m not trying to challenge anyone to opinion duel or anything, Gw2 has it’s perks, like way better dye system (and for now gear look customization), but personally I prefer FF over this easily so I’m kinda surprised when only ones ever mentioned in the forums are wow, this, eso and some rare cases utterly crappy FFXI.

Your top 5 design mistakes in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Maethril.9586

Maethril.9586

1. Downed-State in pvp and WvW, not needed. Seriously make some mobs in pve to go downed so people can show off their finishers there, not needed elsewhere.

2. Too sturdy trash mobs, I prefer quantity over “quality” when it comes to mob killing. Killing dozens of trashmobs in minutes is much more heroic than mudwrestle with 3 drunken quaggan for same amount of time.

3. Crafting in overall, current systems doesn’t support crafters, since everyone has everything. I prefered when crafters were actually class of their own and often really time consuming to raise to max lvls.

4. Utterly useless elite skills, since most cases there isn’t any “elite” in those filler skills.

5. Zergfesting in every game mode possible.

Stealth Should be the Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Maethril.9586

Maethril.9586

Honestly I don’t really see thieves to be problem as they are atm, even with stealth and bursts. Especially in WvW and PvP.
Personally I’m not exactly good player, average at best, since I often do stupid mistakes and stuff. Still I find them okay, as long as I’m not fixated to actually kill them.

Of course thieves are annoying to play against, but seriously Warriors, Guardians, Necromancers don’t really have any problems with Thiefs as long as they have at least decent gear, especially in WvW where most has Soldier, Cleric, Sentinel gears, thus having at least high toughness, but usually HP too and honestly if you fail to thief with those characters you fail as player.
If ya chose to be there in Zerger gear, gtfo rally bot, though in necromancers case I could see why it’s tempting choice with all those aoes.

Elementals have bit more difficult time, depending of build and weapons of choice, but tbh I’m nowadays playing elemental as my main and using staff, which many thiefs seems to consider easy target, but mixing cleric and invader (soldier) gear with it and having high def, heal and okayish hp I usually can either brush them off or escape myself from encounter.
Elementals can often even avoid thief bursts, as long as you know their most common patterns, like using steal + stun, then rolling behind you in while in stealth to do backstab. As long as you have either teleport or mist form, simply get away and leave them empty handed. Then I usually cast some AoEs around me and path I’m going to run for, most thiefs quits since they don’t want to run in to AoE fields.
Killing them with staff is too hard for me though, so I simply learned to keep them away.
Tried to play Glass Cannon Ele once and got actually 2 shotted by thief, never played glass ele since.

Mesmer is kinda even match to thief, in my own experience, played mesmer a lot before my Ele. GS, Sword/Focus weapons seems be quite good choice. Since sword has that short invulnerability (blurred frenzy), focus has pull (temporal curtain if activated). Gsword has knockback. My mesmer is glass cannonish, uses utilities like Decoy, Blink, Radiation field and mass invisibility and mesmers has quite good HP pool to begin with.
Tbh I enjoy fighting against thieves with it, since in a way you play with their rules but with having good damage even in range and ability to annoy them with all those clones.

Thief vs Thief doesn’t really happen that often, since usually first one to strike wins, especially if one who was attacked panics and if not, then both usually hides and leaves since either one doesn’t want to show up before other one.

Ranger though, at first I actually struggled with it most to fight against thiefs. Especially since I chose to go with dual bows (Short & Longbows), with glass cannonish build.
Nowadays I can most of the times either get a way myself or make them go away, simply when thief attacks I use lightning reflexes utility, especially if I’m stunned etc, if not then using “protect me” one to be saved for few first strikes. Then using entangle elite, and shooting Barrage where those vines end up showing.
7/10 cases thief gives up. 2/10 cases you either get away safely or fail thus dying and 1/10 thief actually fails and gets killed.

Haven’t played much with engineer thus can’t really say anything.

In my honest opinion, most cases if you got owned by thief, easily/fast, you were total glass cannon or just failed to be aware of your status / surroundings. Both cases you’re one to be blamed, since gear wise it was your personal choice and awareness is matter of concentration & knowledge.

Btw have any of you ever tried to play thief without stealths at all? It’s like playing class cannon ranger just with crippled version of short bow and less mobile 1handed sword, without pet. Pretty horrible.

discussion: buy guild hall with gems?

Posted by: Maethril.9586

Absolutely not. Terrible idea.
Small guilds will again be shut out unless the members want to spend loads of real world money. Guild halls should be free. Internal upgrades should be reputation points, nothing more.
There are enough gem store money sinks for individual players, there should never be gem store items for guilds.

+1 Pretty much this. Guild related stuff should be available with in game currencies and deeds rather than milking ridiculous amounts of real life money.
Honestly I would lose even my tiniest bit of faith I have left for this game, if that “gems this, gems that” scenario would happen. :P

Already quite fed up how little we get new in game skins etc stuff for free.

Guilds are useless ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Maethril.9586

Maethril.9586

My reaction towards guilds is quite twofold to be honest. I find them nice to be around, but I also find them useless.

I have tried various guilds, pve, pvx, wvw, rper and every single one has left me feeling quite cold. There is no real reason to be in one, most loyal I have been for guild is my bank guild, for extra space.
Originally my problem was “core” members of some guild, when you got in spent there few weeks, maybe months. You still were kinda “that new guy”, mostly filler guy to give numbers to guild. If some core dungeon crew lacked member then they asked you to fill in, for replacement.
Eventually I usually hanged our with other “replacements” which wasn’t that bad, but often they also get frustrated being 2nd rate members and left so I usually ended up leaving with them, because all the “friends” I had there left. Then we scattered to new guilds and sometimes some of us went for same guild just to be that “replacement guys” again.

Another issue is, there is no need to be one. Guild karma, exp etc banners are open for everyone, often guilds even inform that they threw those to middle of LA, so people could help themselves. Guild “events” are mostly artificial where everyone “has” to be there, even if it’s just “hide and seek in Queensdale”. Even those missions are quite boring and haven’t done those for long long time.

Third issue is requirement of being overly social, “TS3 this, TS3 that, TS3 for everywhere, even when you’re sleeping.” “Forums this, Forums that, Forums….” “FB this, FB that” you get the idea.
Am I like only person ever which is just happy having guild chat window and if, just if I happen to become friends with some one I even might consider adding him to real life too? Not just every single one of them.

Also there is growing number of high lvl & experienced players which are going around without any guild, mostly because they find it too nuisance and can do most things even without being in one
If they feel like talking with friends, they just party them up or pm them directly, that’s why we have friend list.

I still often join some guilds, just hoping that it would be the most fun one out there, but now have been while completely “solo” for while and don’t feel like I’m losing anything important. Still talking with friends, partying with them and having fun.

Mesmer or Elementalist?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Maethril.9586

Maethril.9586

Well I have both mesmer and ele and played both quite bit. My mesmer is glass cannonish gsword & Sword/focus, it’s great for 1vs1 or even 1vs2 fights, but in zergs it usually gets slaved for team, veils, mass invisibility, portals etc so in those it isn’t that epic anymore, plus lack of good aoe skills with my setup it doesn’t really get much loots from mass fights either. Still quite fun and agile class.
Survivability is also quite good with mesmer, since those invisibilities, teleports and clones, as long as you keep mind surroundings and wont get surprise jumped.

Elementals are great, though I prefer to play it with staff in supportish role, also it has decent survivality too if you make it to use mostly clerics and some soldiers here and there, thus having decent def and around 16k hp and 1,3k heal. Then using cantrips like mistform, teleport and rock armor for example.
But in 1vs1 fights it’s just running away, since staff and support makes it lack bit in damage side. Unless it’s another support ele, or very tankish guardian etc, then it’s eternal battle to exhaustion. :P
Still I enjoy ele most myself, due it having quite good survivability, okayish damage when defending towers, choke points with static field, stonewall & damaging aoes etc. Oh yeah and area swiftness, might and frost armor is fun extras from skill field combos ^^
Plus all that attument switching gives quite decent amount of skills to use, more than any normal melee class has with one or two weapons :P

Also played some D/D ele, it’s better in 1vs1 and fights like that, but personally it didn’t suit my playstyle and already had mesmer & thief for that. :P

As for longbow specifically, idk. Its #1 skill is cumbersome to use to its max damage in many instances. #2, rapid fire, isn’t great because its a channel involving relatively slow-moving projectiles. #3,4,5 are situational.

Just my thoughts/opinions.

#2, actually works bit better with haste (zephyr) since it makes it bit faster, but yeah overall it isn’t that good outside of pve, decent at best.
#3, okay, but gives only short breather, #4 is okay for another breather or if need room for using #3.
#5, is good in wvw, though wouldn’t mind slightly faster cooldown, since it’s only AoE they have.

Well hopefully they allow us to throw away our pets, as an option for build.

Why do people stop playing GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Maethril.9586

Maethril.9586

Personally I didn’t have expectations, unlike some people, I didn’t have much that much of mmo experience either. Since I used to play Ultima Online from 2001 to 2011 pretty much non stop, it isn’t anything like modern mmo’s. I did spend time with D2 and first Neverwinter Nights too.
Didn’t touch on GW1 at all, tried WoW like month and dropped it, wasn’t fan of Trinity. I took up on GW2 just because UO is pretty much dead nowadays and had seen it in many forms during my 10 year run (customized freeshards). So wanted some change and GW2 came out with perfect timing to fill my fantasy rpg quota.

At first GW2 was great, okay story wasn’t epic, Zhaitan was plain letdown, but in overall story wasn’t that bad.
Combat was very mobile and fun, even though I did want to get more skills, especially to weapons, some sort of drop box choices would have been nice. Then I got laughs out of Trinity followers which got wiped in dungeons non stop, crying how this game is broken, just because we didn’t have tanks and healers etc.
Laughing my kitten off to players which stayed in place like they had roots instead of feets, then getting owned by random mobs.
Of course I wasn’t and still aren’t great player myself, but at least I embraced the mobility part of this combat.
Tyria itself was beautiful, most jumping puzzles were fun to do at least once. Honestly I was in love.
First character to lvl 80 was really fun, with all crafting, exploring. Second character went pretty much same way, still had fun, met mostly great people, joined small but enjoyable guild, but..

..Like all love stories, after honeymoon comes the faults. 3rd and 4th characters felt pretty much horrible to grind up, since it was same in every way.
TP prices started to climb at horrible pace. Incomes & drops were just plainly horrible, since I didn’t enjoy doing dungeons non-stop and found that karma trains were mind dulling. Then nerfs after nerfs to things I actually did “farm” for hour or two per day (nowadays all those I did back then don’t drop anything). I just simply burned out, just after 2 months. Had almost 2 months long break, then got back due being too bored. Around X-mas I think.

Started to do more WvW, enjoyed it quite bit. Still did more pve content, grinded 5th and 6th characters to 80 with full exotics. That small guild had grown a bit. Felt alienated, since some of old core had quit/left, some had new things with new members. Didn’t really fit there anymore. Thus left, tried various other guilds. It was okay, but didn’t have that connection to others anymore.
Lots of friends also did quit too, friend list looked quite depressing most of the time.
TP prices were too ridiculous to follow anymore, gave up upon Legendaries, since with my play style I just cant afford it, ever.
Loot’s were pretty much nerfed to point that I didn’t have anything to do in pve anymore out side doing one of each class once to 80.
Switched to almost full time wvw, eventually you get bored to that too. So I quit again, had burnout of my life. Had almost half year long break until I logged on again like month ago.

Been mostly in WvW since, honestly it’s more enjoyable now since you get some rewards there. Even the Pve gives more rewards, though I wish it would be outside of champ trains, since they ain’t different from old mind torturing karma trains. Though main problem is GW2 lacks real hook, it has none.
UO had community, guilds, guild alliances, guild wars, chaos/order theme fun open world, housing, mounts, good crafting etc.
D2 had farming, farming and farming where you always felt like that you got something. "Maybe in next “room” I get something better."
WoW was about eternal cycle of progression and biggest ego contest.

GW2 just has Achievement points, but player who doesn’t give a kitten over those, nor have epic guild full of friends to keep them logging in, there simply isn’t anything to get hooked.
Plus your “hero” doesn’t feel that heroic at all, since you can’t even brush away some lame random trash mobs. I understand how veterans takes some time, champions of course should be “difficult” to degree.
But random skritt from beginner area can actually take few hits from guy actually has been killing god knows what kind of monsters around the world… c’mon. 3 or 4 basic hyper bunnies at the time actually gives you some challenge, when most games hero sneezes and they fly away like quaggan middle of Norn bar fight.
Or maybe I just prefer having 15-30 trash mobs around me and giving trouble with quantity instead of quality, who knows, but at least it feels heroic.

Well in overall GW2 still is decent game. Also you don’t get much of regrets if you decide to quit today, tomorrow, next week. If you feel coming back, it hasn’t changed that much, so it’s easy to come back. Those are the biggest pro’s of GW2.

Just my pennies, sorry for long post.

I don’t usually bother to comment in wvw topics, but this double teaming isn’t fully true, been playing in EB every day since the start. Main problem is that we can’t do anything to Vizunah alone, when we try to takes something theirs, they wipe us. Over and over again.
H3ll just last night we tried for hour or so, tried to give SFR a hint that they would do same from other side, just for a change. What SFR did?
Took our Anza and Mendons, we gave up and waited to Vizunah start to focus SFR again, while tooking anza and mendons back.
Then we watched you two fighting near klovan and attacked WC.
We simply can’t attack Vizunah for 2 reasons, we can’t manage alone and SFR punishes us every single time while we’re at it.
We simply do only thing you both offer to us, we help ourselves by using vizunah, while they use Piken to help themselves.

Peace.

Healing power

I wish healing skills would be bit better, especially with staff elementalists and engineer. Guardian could also have bit more as a “frontline healer”.
Then making bosses bit more difficult and boom we had something else than just zergers running around.
I don’t mean trinity, but simply to have slight need for those supports every now and then in pve.

But still in wvw I really enjoy my (healer) elementalist built to be full support and having 1,4k healing. It makes surprisingly, if not a lot, then at least decently difference in smaller teams if there is someone supporting and right moments harassing with attack skills, even if they ain’t exactly strong.

What feature do you miss from your old MMO

I want possibility to solo any content in this game. For example all dungeons, especially those story paths at least.

But yeah things I wish from old games, games like UO:
-I would love to get more epic pets (if not else then just for looks) to be tamed.
-Pet evolution, gaining experience through usage and growing.
-Some mounts to use with city clothing, just couple different type of horses would be enough for me (better than some broom…).
-Housing.
-Guild buildings/halls.
-More city clothing. (Possibly player made, tailoring etc)

Also from other games:
-Weapon dyeing (to some extent).
-pvp arena in pve world. (Gladiator feel >:D)
-More unique armors. Similar to some dungeon armors, but be able to drop from open world champions, events etc. (Bit like in diablo 2) Also preferably just from those, it would make ppl to go wander less used maps too (if they are cool enough).
-Bit more variety to weapon skills (utility style), or at least possibility to modify the order of skills in weapons.
-Deathmatch mode to pvp.

And those are just for now hopes. :P

Thing I DON’T want to see is Trinity.

You do not farm for days and not see a rare.

hoy, no offence but in normal maps you can farm days without getting even single rare. I had once 2 weeks when I didn’t even see rare while I was running in orr and frostgorge, also doing some dragons, while I played 8-10 hours day.
So honestly it was really really unrewarding.

In dungeons though I get them at least one rare in 3 runs. But I don’t count them as normal map event etc running/farming. Since they are “DUNGEONS”.
Thus I love new dragon loot system, at least something in this game rewards me for actually doing it.

Fractal drop nerf for soloers

Maethril.9586

Oh come on, I hate it how people always draw “this is multiplayer game” card out of their kitten when someone wants to do things alone or prefers to be alone.

Hell I like to solo things, most of the time. Simply because most other players are idiots from neverhadbrains land, or they are elitists which pisses me off. “You need to have this and this build blahblahblah. Then finally in the dungeon, skip-skip-skip-kill that one -skip skip- kill that one. End” Yay I played multiplayer for that kitten?

Though I do have quite fun dungeon group nowadays, except they wont do anything else than AC since it’s “easiest & fastest.” Randomly some “theme” days for change.

And I can understand the pain of OP in this thing. Since that Ascended back piece is way way better than green kitten we get from normal ways.
I want it to laurel merchant as well, like other stuff. Also there is no other means to get that skin either which is bad. Game should not force ppl to group, just because it is multiplayer game.

I do enjoy having ppl around, since they are better than normal npcs and it’s fun to talk with some ppl in cities, chats etc. Thus I’m enjoying multiplayer game, just without stupid groups.
Forced groups don’t define game as Multiplayer, just having ppl around in the maps does.

Some reason my alt(s) still has visible horns etc. :p

EDIT: I believe it’s because we used to be able to switch city headgear on/off (like armor headgear even today) before, thus if it was off it stayed off after that feature was taken from us. Since my ranger, which, can’t use those anymore had her city hat as invisible while my other characters it was visible.

Precursors by work not by luck

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Maethril.9586

Maethril.9586

how a precursor could be achieved by work:
You get the precursor you want:
1. by getting Dungeon Master -> You really need to play PvE for it and this is quite a hugh effort to get it.
2. every 30. levels in Fractals (which means, at lvl 30, 60 …) -> This is also a long way to go
The precursors could even be account bound.
These ways would take some effort and by account bound it couldn’t be farmed.

I simply don’t accept dungeons or fractals as only way to get it. Because I don’t do those at all, simply because most random groups aint worth it and don’t have dedicated group either.
And with Luck it is still possible for dungeon runners anyway. I would prefer story long storyline with hard (SOLOABLE) quests.
And precursors should stay sellable unless they make that story system, but I don’t accept sellable Legendaries though.

And some veterans, with high MF gear, should drop masterworks and rares every now and then.

Honestly I’ve been playing couple of months 6-16h a day and 90-95% of it is pve since it’s fun. Rest is WvW for fun and to hunt 500 badges for next weapon.

sPvP just sucks, if I want 8 vs 8 domination, I play Battlefield or CoD, since they are way more entertaining in it. Though I admit one of the small reasons is preset gear which I don’t like in it. (Though played only couple times in the past to try it out, so not sure if you can bring your own IG items eventually.)

In WvW Zerging isn’t exactly problem though, since you can be intelligent about zergs too, few smaller zergs can do much much more than one huge in each map. Since one group cant go everywhere anytime. Also small 3-5 member raiding groups are still good to have just to do some distractions and nuinsance.
Divide and conquer. :P

Btw without rally feature defender would be bit more king than it already is, already so often you can see groups retreating from walls after 3-5 defenders fends off 10-20 people with ease. Especially if attackers are even little bit disorganized and defenders knows what they are doing.

Against De-promoting 'Holy Trinity'

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Maethril.9586

Maethril.9586

Seriously, there is no need for trinity here, though if people really still wants to use them they are possible To Some extent.

Guardian is closest thing to healer what I have played so far, though more closer to cleric to be honest. With right items and stat build you can make it sort of “healer” with defensive buffs, combined with good overall durability.
Sounds cleric to me, good for support and/or even as backup tank.

Warrior specially with mace/shield & warhammer can work out as “tank” role thanks to stuns and such. Of course building it to heavily for vitality and toughness and heavily for regen too. (warrior can have 2 regens from their own + leech/water sigils in weapons + regen from foods, not sure about player given regens though.)
Closest for basic tank you can get with good regen, sadly you can’t really “lure” enemies to you that easily, but at least you can be annoying enough.

Necros is said to be good tanks, but I don’t have own experience of them at all.

DPS can be pretty much any semi-glass cannon as long they wont die too easily.
Though imo ranger is quite decent for the job too, with devourers if want to keep ranged or high vitality pets with conditions like chills/stun/cripple/etc for helping “tank”, also requires some pet management skills too. (which seems to be rare talent with rangers to be honest)

Thus these works out best only in dungeons & other smaller scale pve.

And ain’t even close to perfect, but at least you can imagine those simple roles in it if you feel like “MustHaveTheseInMmo”.
Though lacking aggro system “tank” & team needs to be good when timing stuns/cripple/immobilizes etc and those comes from training & familiar group. :P

I do see some potential in Ascended gear though, since it is supposed to circle around infusions. Which gives more possibilities with character customization, which we do lack currently, badly. Since infusions have 3(?) different categories, at least for the moment.

Also it opens doors for better pve too, since if AN brings new feats like Agony in the future for pve etc, they just need to implement new infusions instead of whole new rarity or “unique” items.
After this that is, though it probably could have been implemented just for existing gears. But like I said earlier, I have always felt like there should have been 1-2 more rarities anyway.

Though I admit, even I will get bit annoyed if they start doing this in regular basis. >_>

Honestly I don’t really understand all this rage over this patch. Since I didn’t expect anything epic yet anyway. Usually really big fixes comes out when next real expansions etc comes out. Till then patches are mostly cosmetic than actually big ones.

People just wants to expect too much from everything, some says “We are getting bit bigger patch soon”, most people reads it “Next patch fixes whole universe and gives us world peace”. When it doesn’t rage fills the world.

Also can’t really understand rage over rangers either. Since I’m playing dual bow ranger with signets & immobilize and having blast.
Way more than my GSword warrior, which is only repeating same stuff all over again. “Rush enemy, swing defs off, hundred blades, if unlucky you need to hit couple more. Then next group of enemies”

SBow isn’t fast as it used to be, so what. It still is faster than warrior with 1handed sword, about same damage and you have distance advantage.
LBow is bit too slow imo, also damage is weaker than it’s rifle counterpart. Yet it’s decent enough in good hands.
Underwater fights used to be horrible, since this patch actually seemed to do something to those, then I’m bit more happier.

Meh, I’m not too worried over new rarity tier either, since I always had feeling there should be 1 or 2 more, but they just didn’t make them on time.
Mostly rage over those seems to come from WvW & PvP only players, though getting new ones doesn’t usually take longer than few days with lvl 80 characters anyway.
Wealthy characters probably wont need to “wait” even that long, spends some Gs and here we go again.

Imo Anet is doing quite fine considering how new game this is, and lack of staff they seem to have atm. If we have these problems from year now and after couple expansions. Then it’s usually lost cause.

Please reconsider the Orr snares, knockdowns and roots...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Maethril.9586

Maethril.9586

Honestly, Orr is okay usually. Even as solo.

Dodge ability in this game is so OP in PVE that it makes it too easy usually. With ranged skills you can even solo almost half of the group bosses in this game too (though time consuming). All thanks to dodge.

When it comes to Orr, just learn the patterns of different creeps and you can pretty much run through them without worries. Learn to dodge only those attacks which does something annoying. (Cripple, Pull, Knockdown)
Also many of those are warned clearly before hand anyway, or it’s their starting move and thanks to those, really predictable. So it reduces a lot wasted endurance for next maneuvers.
It’s all about timing and mobility.

I have soloed all Orr areas 100% with Rifle/Gsword warrior and slightly squishy dual bow ranger, it isn’t even hard to be honest. Only 2 skill points were quite hard/annoying with DB ranger, with warrior even more easier.
Though I don’t really like Malchor’s Leap at all, since the map itself is quite horrible.

If I wanted to complain something there it’s those weird thorn roots/vines which pops up out of the ground and follows you around while crippling. Or stunning/confusing/blinding lightning circles which gives me feeling of being middle of artillery bombardment.
Spawn times are horrible, usually after killing 3-5 mobs they start to spawn back so it becomes endless cycle if you don’t constantly move forward while killing. Which is bit issue due density. (Mob density isn’t bad itself, imo).
Also some waypoints should be less often contested to be honest.

But creeps itself are mostly fine as they are, just multiple other things there are annoying.

Though this is only my personal opinion.
