Winter Wonderland Woes

HI All,

I would like to address the fact that the jumping puzzle as it currently stands is in a very broken state. In past Wintersday’s, I have been able to complete the JP about 10-15 times per 30 minutes. This was quite a great way to gather some money during the event.

Fast forward to this year, same JP, except now there are gifts that don’t blow up but still knock you down, and INVISIBLE BOULDERS!

I know that Anet gives us the same polished kitten for Wintersday every year, but this year it is unpolished and unstable. Please fix this….

I just vendored a Gift of Fortune and Mastery

This is mostly OP’s fault. You created items completely based on speculation. Nobody forced you to make the Gifts. If anything, you should have gathered the mats and then waited to see if you really wanted to combine them into gifts. At least that way, most of them would have been able to be sold back. You took a risk and you got burned. Get over it.

Initial Raid Thoughts

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Magnus Heartseeker.7958

Hello Everyone,

This is just a brain dump from the raids that I participated in. Overall, I find that the raid was entertaining and challenging. It really made our groups think. I was running a Condi Necro with Rabid Stats.

What I liked
- The phasing on this first boss was beautiful. I enjoyed the initial part of the fight from avoiding the red orbs, standing in the blue laser thing, etc. It was hectic, but it kept you on your toes. One mess up, and you wipe. This is the kind of challenging that I enjoy.

- Phase 2 had an interesting concept. I do wish there was a way to change how you were attuned. Mainly because once your team wipes out one of the 3 guardians, you don’t want to get close to the others because they will deal increased dmg. Overall, this was a fun phase.

- Phase 3 is the phase that we never got past, and that is okay considering we spend a grand total of maybe 2 hours in the raid. The phase keeps you active, moving, and has spots where you have to burn down your CC before the boss burns you down. It was a very fun mechanic.

The Bad
- In previous posts, we were told that exotics would be alright for the raids. However, when I entered the raid, there was an ascended vendor there. This sets a precedent that ascended will most likely be required.

- During phase 2, we had difficulty keeping the 3 guardians in their zones. Once one died, one of the guardians (usually green) would stop attacking the team at his feet and make a beeline for the team that just killed a guardian. If this is by design, then I guess we will have to figure a way around it. It did seem a little clunky though.

- That enrage timer is tough. 8 minutes to complete the entire fight seems a little steep, but it may be necessary for all I know. Every time we wiped on phase 3 was because of the enrage timer. The lowest we got the boss was about 40% hp before he went nuts.

Overall, my final opinion is that I am impressed with the raid and am looking forward for more like this. However, I do fear for the people who do not have ascended gear. 5% isn’t a huge difference, but that 5% might be what makes or breaks that fight.

XD well if you wanna get on that point, Military rangers are “special forces”. then you have the country “rangers” considered as the official police. then you have the classic ranger of MMO’s that deal in archery or long range weaponry. and then your prospective of it. XD so really if you wanna define GW2 as “one who guards and protects the lands” shouldn’t they not be able to use daggers and swords? I don’t know, just my thoughts on it all. no need to get all fussy over it.

I agree with you.

We can also get on a perspective from medieval fantasy. Take a look at Dungeons and Dragons and LOTR. When I hear ranger, I think of Aragorn from LOTR or Drizzt from D&D. Heck, many of the ranger pieces from D&D are reflected in GW2’s version of the ranger.

Animal Companion – Check
Spells that are thematically nature related – Check
Two-Weapon fighting and Archery – Check
Quick Combat Style and Camoflague – Check (ranger bow skill makes you invisible, abilities that make you invisible until you attack, 2 swords has a lot of engage/disengage)

Overall, I feel like they are running along the medieval fantasy theme of Ranger. They definitely aren’t characters that just attack from a range.

Best Condi Duration Runes Account Bound

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Magnus Heartseeker.7958

With the changes to the specializations, necros no longer get free condition duration. However, there are also very few armors that grant condition duration. So I decided to find how many runes offer this. Unfortunately, very few of them fit the bill for a condition necromancer. To add to the misfortune, it appears that the best rune for a condi necro is the Superior Rune of the Nightmare. You can buy these for 120 deadly blossoms each and they are account bount.

I really wish these things were not account bound on acquire. It looks like my first bit of time playing with this patch will be upgrading these runes :P

Hello,

My request is 1298596. I really want a refund for the black wings since they were not as what I thought they were going to be (more details in the ticket) and I have yet to hear anything back yet. I just want a refund of gems and the wings to be removed from my account. I don’t want cash since I know I will spend the gems in the future anyway.

Thank you,

I just bought the wings and now I immediately put in a refund request. One would thing that for 500 gems that there would be some basic animation to them. Instead, they have nothing. They don’t move at all when jumping and they swing about awkwardly when you run.

If you hoped that these things would have some form of animation, do not buy these. If you like them because they are pretty and you can put up with zero animation whatsoever, go for it. I was not impressed though. It looks amazing but they could have pushed the animations a little further.

I am sure there may have been a post about this already, but right after the exploding gifts, you jump onto the candy cane bridge and suddenly you get dropped to 0 health. It looks like it deals rapid damage, 1200 at a time. But this health is lost over a span of 1 second. I have yet to find a work around for this and I hear SEVERAL people talking about this bug in game.

Avatar of Grenth Cosplay!

Magnus Heartseeker.7958

Hey Everyone!

For the longest time, I had wanted to make a cosplay, but never knew what to do. Earlier this January, myself and one of my best friends decided to take on the challenge of recreating the Avatar of Grenth from Guild Wars: Nightfall. We had our first showing at Gen Con in Indianapolis and had our second showing at Geek Kon in Madison, Wisconsin. To our surprise, we won our category at Gen Con, as well as 2 judges choice awards, and we won the Best Journeyman Cosplay at Geek Kon.

Now we can only compete at a professional level at future contests, which is both an honor and intimidating, considering this is our first cosplay. Below are some photos of what we were working off of, the costume, and the awards.

2. Front view of the cosplay during the cosplay parade.

3. Me with the Best Journeyman award hanging from the staff

4. Gen Con Medal!

My Black Lion Claim Ticket Dissapeared!

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Magnus Heartseeker.7958

Magnus Heartseeker.7958

Hello,

Over the past few purchases, I have been saving up ticket scraps and finally made my second claim ticket. I have held onto it for the past month or two in hopes of a cool weapon skin to trade it in for. This Tuesday, I finally decided that I was going to get the 1 handed sword phoenix skin. To my dismay, I went to the trader and it said I had insufficient funds. I have triple checked my bank and characters and double checked my wardrobe to make sure that I did not use the ticket and forgot about it. I was unable to find any proof that I had spent my ticket or that it was hidden on one of my characters.

To make matters worse, I made a ticket about the issue and it all summed up to “We have concluded our investigation into the lost item that you reported. We were not able to verify this particular item loss in our records. It is not possible for the Guild Wars 2 Support Team to replace such an item without independent verification of its loss and the circumstances surrounding a loss incident.”

This brings a great concern to me because I spent money in the store for items and ticket scraps. When I finally have enough to make my second ticket and it disappears, A-Net essentially says “Tough Luck. Better luck next time!”. I hate to say this, but this has greatly reduced my trust with this company if this is what the final resolution is and I will no longer spend my money if this is how it ends up. And I have spent a lot in the gemstore.

Is this truly how this situation is going to end up? Am I really screwed out of my reward for making purchases and saving up my scraps??

I am a fan of this if it gets implemented well. Also, if you read the post, they are only testing it in Major Cities and lvl 1-15 zones. If it ends up how you say it did in the other game you played, then I am sure they will backpedal on that idea and find another way to populate unpopulated zones.

That’s what most of us were expecting; unlimited free swaps after purchase and/or transmutation. ANet gets their sales and we get true cosmetic progression. Doesn’t look very promising so far, but I’ll reserve judgement until the 15th.

Was it?
I can only speak for myself of course, but I never assumed that they would remove a massive source of revenue and simply give it away for free without something replacing said revenue.
But I suppose that might just be me.

I know that I was expecting it to go to free. If you think about it, I believe the player base will be much more willing to buy a skin or set if it was unlocked for all characters and it was free to switch the skins. The fact that you have to pay to switch the look of your gear after purchasing/earning it is ludicrous, and I have always thought that.

The new wardrobe appears to be an awesome step in the right direction. I love that my bank is now freed up and the skins I paid for will be saved, allowing me to put them on any character without the use of splitters. At first I was happy about this, but then I looked into it more.

I have mixed feelings about this because the wardrobe is still pay to change or grind for 20+ minutes to explore an area for a transmutation crystal/charge. I am curious as to why Anet came this far only to put a monetary price on changing the looks on our gear. I have already paid for armors, why should we continue to have to pay to change things up? Why can’t this just be unlimited?

Did ANet intend to manipulate the dye market?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Magnus Heartseeker.7958

Magnus Heartseeker.7958

I think that dyes in general would increase in value considering that they now unlock account wide. I also think this will be a short-lived trend because once you get the dye, you will never need it again. As time goes on, the demand for it will dwindle as more accounts get most of the dyes unlocked. The price will go back down, but probably never back to the price dyes were before the announcement. At least this is what I think will happen. I could be wrong lol.

Magnus Heartseeker.7958

This is very much like a classic stock market spike after an event happens in the real world that will affect that business. Dyes get announced, supply and demand both go through the roof, but supply still steadily increases. Upon the announcement, it took less than an hour to drain the supply to around 4,000, then at around midnight, it reached one of its highest points ever at 25,000. Now that the bubble is over, it is still on a decline.

The only thing that I wish is if Anet had scheduled times when they make announcements like this. Tuesdays at 9am Server time, etc. The stock market has a scheduled opening and closing every day. I’m not saying close the TP at certain hours, but have a set time to make announcements that will affect the TP. This would put everyone on equal footing.

I also found this article and I feel it relates to this instance.

The staff, especially the staff, looks nothing like the original, it’s terrible now. The hammer and sword aren’t even close. The focus is huge, the shield is small (doesn’t seem to be bigger on charr/norn either). The mace doesn’t fit at all. Scepter/bows/dagger look alright still.

The staff does have a few differences, but the hammer and the sword seem very close. It seems very nitpicky to say that they are not even close.

The tormented weapons were my favorite skin in the game in GW1. Luckily, I was only one scrap away from getting a ticket. I managed to get 3 scraps in 10 chests and got a Tormented Greatsword because that thing looks amazing.

Overall, I am really happy with the design and how they kept the GW1 designs for the existing weapons and the new weapons not found in GW1 easily fit the bill to look like a tormented weapon. The effects are there and they are relatively subtle, with the exception of the tormented shield. I am really happy to see that the shield no longer looks like a piece of purple plexiglass though.

The only thing that is a shame is that you have to RNG and use real money bring these items into existence. Sure, people will sell on the TP, but they had to pay real money to bring them into the game. I don’t think that is right, but I’m also not a businessman.
