My machines stats are in my sig, I run on I run my setting at what the attachment shows and usually it runs quite well. I get 35-60 FPS doing regular PvE or Dungeons and 15-35 in WvW or World events depending on where what and how big the zerg is.

I was curious how the game held up on a MBPro running Retina graphics. That’s actually really good! My MBAir is playable too, but obviously I’m running on a lot lower settings.

I can never get back those 10 minutes of my life.

It’s F2P, so load it up and see if any of the changes are to your liking. Not like you have to resubscribe to try it again.

If the instructions are too difficult, try downloading a script I wrote to make it easier. Let me know if it works for you:

The solution for me, I created a new system user called “gw2” and it works when I’m logged in there…still trying to figure out if there’s a better solution

The reason that works is because the new user would have it’s own library folder. Just delete the guildwars 2 library folder and it should work for your user again.

How is that even possible? I run GW2 on my Early 2013 Retina MBP on medium to high settings, pretty much maxed out on Mac Beta. And I run around 40fps and not even too hot.

I would guess CPU contention. My new air is running better than my old pro and I’m guessing it’s more to do with CPU than GPU with the cider port (but could be wrong).

I’d do 2 things:
1-First try deleting the Library folder and see if that helps
2-Lower your graphics settings to Atari level and see if that prevents your crashes

If #1 works – Yay
If #2 works – Turns your graphics up gradually (and by gradually, I mean try 1 new thing per day).

Same here, but I have a Macbook Pro Retina.
Game crashes every 5-10 minutes. Doesn’t matter what I do (wvw, la or dungeons).

Crashes occur since last game patch as well as after upgrading to OS X Mavericks.

With the likely announcement of Mavericks next Tuesday I was wondering if anyone had tested GW2 on OSX 10.9?

I know this game is a port, but I’m curious if the updates to OpenGL will have any impact (positive or negative) with the next update.

So… Anyone tested it yet? (I’m too lazy and only have it running in a VM.)

I put the Frame Limiter on 30 so that’s about where she stays. I have seen up to 60, which I was surprised for an Air, but with everything they’ve put in recently to help with the culling, I think it’s had a dramatic performance impact for me.

Glad to hear that things are running better for you!

I’m running lower than that (everything turned down except I still have that rendering at native) and run great.

The only other thing that popped into my head was external monitors. If I have my Mac plugged into another monitor instead of using it’s local one, the performance takes a dive for me even with a similar resolution.

Check your mac for background processes that suck up CPU. For me, skydrive was sucking up a lot of CPU at times for no reason.

Follow the instructions and that will clear up the issue. This is a common and known problem. Reinstall will not clean out your library folder.

Just picked up the 13-inch air with i7 and 8G RAM. I was pleasantly surprised at how well this runs! Turned everything down except left native sampling and did dungeon, WvW and ran around the open world without any issues!

FYI,
I just deleted the standard ~/Library/Application Support/Guild Wars 2 folder, did a SMC Reset for good measure and downloaded this patch.

Perhaps it’s just s fluke, but the client is actually running WAY better for me now. If nothing else I’m just thrilled that ArenaNet pushed a patch to the Mac Client, tells me we’re not totally forgotten.

Negative. I have the Apple Airport and it only occurs when my wife and I are playing GW2 on the Wi-Fi together at the same time. If she’s not playing, I can Wi-Fi play all day long.

I started experiencing this as well. However, it only seems to occur on Wi-Fi.

During the evening I would crawl into bed with my wife, turn down the lights and… fire up some GW2 (because that’s what you do post 30 when you’re married I guess).

Anyway, she would run great and have 0 issues and I would disconnect every 5-15 minutes. As my desk is in the same room, I simply hooked it in via Ethernet and haven’t disconnected since.

So I would strongly encourage attempting to plug in to see if that is your issue. (and yes, I could browse the internet fine and all that jazz on Wi-Fi).

I would strongly discourage pushing taking “Beta” off because if ANet is anything like most development organizations, the client would then enter a different stage of the lifecycle and would likely receive very little attention.

Provide feedback, push for changes, but be careful about removing the Beta status. All that being said, if we haven’t seen any changes in 4 months, that a discouraging sign.

And while I would LOVE a Native client, this would most likely introduce more problems than it would solve. We “might” get a little performance gain, but as mentioned by others it would have to be reworked from the ground up (likely introducing countless new “Mac only” bugs).

As it is now, they appear to be writing special things into the Mac client that accounts for the platform, so although I would rather have something native; I’m totally ok with this approach because they aren’t just porting and dumping, they’re actually writing some things into the client (which shows attention).

I’m ok with smoke, or crystals, or stars or something other than a butterfly (I’m even ok with the color). It’s just hard for me to play this game with my wife laughing at my “Macho Butterflies”!

I would pay some gems to make this a changeable option! It’s just that I’m supposed to be this master of manipulation and think that something like a glass/crystal shattering would be way more appropriate. The butterflies make me think I’m giving my foes gas problems instead of instilling terror from manipulation.

Coming from Everquest 2 and playing a Coercer I really loved having the dark side of an Enchanter and get that sort of feel with the Mesmer but the butterflies are just not doing it for me.

If there’s any way we could change this to a Star or something that doesn’t make me feel like after I shatter that I should be picked up by a Unicorn and ride on some Rainbow through the clouds it would be great!

Well, I guess that answered my question about cleaning out the components from the Library folder.

Quick question on the reinstall, did you also rip out the components from the Library or just removed from Applications?

I use an external display while playing but I keep the lid of my MBPro closed when attached.

Yes I’ve scaled down my settings but this client is the only reason I’m playing this game. I absolutely hated having Windows on my box so a year ago I finally removed Bootcamp and only play games that are native (yes, I know about ports, crossover, and all that).

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for putting this together!
