I think sword off hand is better. The sword 4 does a little less damage than the axe 4 and the block every 15sec on sword 5 is also really good.

Also im on my phone so i cbf formatting this priperly but to the poster like 2 above me. Ive found that axe 5 is actually pretty good to get people to use up their dodge or stealth skills so my eviscerate hits. But thats about it.

I think axe offhand needs a revamp.
Wth why only in spvp a5 does 50% more dmg???

Love all this QQ about Warriors now that they’ve become viable in pvp. I’ve played warrior and only warrior since beta, you probably didn’t play warrior when we were just easy roflstomp prey for pretty much every class.

Zerker with Longbow/GS is really fun and effective in large-scale fights, I usually run that, and switch to sword/mace/GS for smaller stuff.

Let me address some common points

1) How does downed state promote zerging?
Downing makes anything 1v anything > 1 nigh on impossible (varying difficulties between classes though) and even gives massive advantages to some classes even in 1v1s. This means numbers usually come out on top 90% of the time. Therefore it pushes to find strength in numbers. This then has other implications like killing any form of tactical play whatsoever… and to think Anet wants to push guild wars 2 into the e-sport scene. Good joke Anet, maybe you guys should be comedians instead of developing games.

2) It’s fun being able to revive downed players and makes things more fluid (or realistic? I dunno wtf some people are on about)
I said take out downed state, not the ability to revive. You can still revive people when they’re fully dead. Now this would make it a lot more realistic…

Is there a cap on condition duration reduction? I want to take melandru, dogged march and lemon (or the next one down) for 90+% condition duration reduction, but if there’s a cap i don’t know if should be getting melandrus..

I’ve decided to go with shield, I think melandru + dogged + lemon is a lot more effective at removing conditions than having to actively remove them using warhorn and shouts.

I prefer Shield personally, if you go for Fast Hands as well there’s a trait in the same tree where you gain Might on block: a lot of players will just keep attacking through a block, plus it has no internal CD so in WvW you can hit the Might cap pretty easily. I do carry a Warhorn for running around, though.

do you find the stun skill to be quite buggy?
and how easily do you get kited because of the lack of condition removals? (or less than there would be if you were using a warhorn)

So ATM my main weapon of choice is Axe and Warhorn. But I’m thinking whether I should change to shield. !!!!!!!!!!!Also, this is for WvW!!!!!!!!!

So Pros about warhorn
condition removal – an extra 2 ~ 4 condition removal depending how good I can time condition removals,
swiftness – so I can stick to enemies for longer
vigor/weakness – good trait for me to dodge and defensive ability as well as they’ll do more glanding hits
short cd’s

cons
looks kinda gay
hard to land eviscerates on people unless I happen to immobilise right on their kitten

pros of shield
looks cool – kinda want to wear the guild shield
stun – would make it a lot easier to land eviscerates on people because it takes me right to them, however, i dunno if this is like GS 5 or bull’s charge where it misses 80% Of the time time.
trait for short cd gives extra 90 toughness dunno how much difference it would make
the 3 second block seems pretty useful especially for classes like thieves, because with warhorn they can take me down pretty quick if I don’t find them first, but with shield one stun after I find them using block should be enough to kill them.

cons
long cd’s even if traited, still pretty long
no condition removal, so if I get caught in a team fight or something, i’ll probably be dead.
slower than warhorn because of no vigor or swifness

also, my second weapon set is a rifle so the mobility that warhorn gives is quite important too…

Let me address some of the supporters of the downed state. The common consensus of people who are pro-downed state seems to be:

1) Promotes team play
- no it doesn’t it promotes numbers. If you died instead of getting “downed” at 0, you need more co-ordination and team work in order to play as a coherent unit because every death of a team-member counts. Whereas with downed state, bad play is compensated by the ability to rez your dead team mate in like 5 seconds.
This is why WvW is just a zerg vs zerg and no-one outside people who play WvW i mean ZvZ, takes gw2’s pvp seriously. Which is a pity since GW1 and expansions, were renowned for it’s pvp.
If downed state was removed it would actually feel like WvW where a smaller unit can defend against zerg twice it’s size .

2) PvP is balanced around downed state
- yes, that is how kitten Anet is. They balanced pvp around a mechanic that isn’t balanced which gives certain professions huge advantages over other professions (see mesmer).

3) It’s your fault for building zerker.
I’m a warrior. I don’t build zerker. Most of my fights with professions like thief and mesmer last 20 seconds or more (just an estimate). I out sustain them and usually end up killing – I mean downing – them first with extremely low health. (Now if this was an mmo with worthwhile pvp, I should technically have “won” the fight.) This is actually advantageous for them UNLESS my heal HAPPENS to come up in time to finish them off. Otherwise I have to expose myself to their 1 and risk getting downed. And it’s ALWAYS more detrimental to the player that gets downed 2nd.
Some of you may say, but you have rifle… but why should I be forced to carry a rifle in these situations if pvp is balanced around the downed state?

Face it, Anet kittened up on downed state and they won’t admit how stupid their mistake was. No decent game with decent game has this downy downed mechanic.

Maxing and alt in this game takes much much less time than any other MMO, which was the best idea in the history of mmorpg’s.

Nope, but all classes got ups and downs.
Downed state is part of what makes GW2, just because you’re used to one way of PvP from other games, it does not make it the “right” way to do it.
GW2’s PvP is a different game, WvW in its nature is widely different than sPvP, that you cannot even begin to compare the two.

Until the day Anet will change WvW skills to sPvP, it will still remain as PvX and not solid PvP, so you cannot compare the two.

Okay, getting someone’s hp downed to 0 equalling a kill might not be the “right” way to do it, hey why not just give instant rezx5 so we have to kill each other 5 times? but in all seriousness, I know downed state is the wrong way to do pvp.100%.

I meant ups and downs in general that compensate for it, not specifically for downed states.

Also, if GW2 was the first game to introduce PvP – you wouldn’t know any better.
So yeah, you only assume you know what is the “right” way to PvP basing your idea of it off other games.

The right way to pvp is if you get someone down to 0 hp, they die. If they die they’re DEAD.

The fact that this happens in every. single. game (of any genre). with. player versus player. goes to show that it works better than the downed state mechanic, since no new game has implemented this ground-breaking new way of doing pvp…

Lol at the warrior. No class requires “skill” in PvE. Warrior is perhaps one of the hardest classes to play well in WvW since they’re so kitten at 1v1s.

Easiest class is thief by far, how do you even die with such cheesy stealths?

I find generally that axe and warhorn is generally pretty good with necros, mesmers and assassins (to a certain degree), I haven’t really fought 1v1’d any engineers or guardians to get a good feel for those classes. (it is pretty funny when thieves put 10 stacks of vulnerability on you and you just turn it protection though)

But the only class I have problem with are rangers, and just like you guys said, they just re-apply conditions too fast, and with their 25% movement speed signet, it’s really hard to keep up with them, even with swiftness.

Disregarding the fact that downed state is the possibly the worst concept that has ever been thought up of in an MMO…

the warrior downed state 3 absolutely sucks BALLS!!

I was 1v1ing a Ranger today. I downed him first but I was on low health, maybe 2 or 3k. I couldn’t risk getting downed myself so I decided to back off for a few seconds because my heal was almost up. So I healed up to about 15k hp then went to finish off the ranger. I’m casting, but then I get struck down, and he calls his pet to heal. Pet heals him back up to full before I could finish casting again. He revives half hp, heals then kills me.

So while HE gets a revive, I get a 10 second timer before comitting suicide… because apparently in gw2 getting someone down to 0 hp isn’t enough to reward a kill..

I’m sword/horn, but yea horn is great for conditions. I think horn, dogged march and lemongrass is enough in wvwvw, melandrus is just overkill. And for the Boons you get each condition always turn to the same boon, you can look it up on wiki.

where can I find the page that tells me which conditions turn into which boons?

So I was axe/axing but then I decided to try Axe/warhorn, and I am loving it atm!!!

Condition removal on 4 (cripple, chill, immobilize) + turns 1 condition into the MOTHER kittenING BOON! not to mention swiftness 24/7.
Condition removal on 5 and turns it into ANOTHER MOTHER kittenING BOON!! and gives you vigor for 7.5 seconds every 16 seconds, while putting weakness on enemies, so they dodge half as much while you dodge twice as much.
(note these are if traited for major skill on tactics line)

combine this with soldier runes and you get another 2 condition removal from shake it off, and another 1 condition removal from great justice and/or another 1 condition removal from the shout that put vulnerability, depending on whether you’re running 2 or 3 shouts.

and people say warriors can’t removal conditions effectively? (plus dogged march and you’ll be unconditionable). I really think warhorns are underrated and not used enough.

Question to non-GS warriors.

What do you guys do for mobility? ATM I’m A/A and GS. and the reason I have GS is for the mobility and the cripple x2. But if I could, I would go A/A and rifle.

For Choice 2, you also have to consider Discipline’s horrible stats it gives and the major Strength trait, which is your choice between a flat +10% GS damage or axe (which I suggest you grab GS because this build is not speccing into Arms and you won’t benefit from crit as much).

Also since you’re not speccing into Arms, the crit damage bonus from Discipline is of less use to you. And so, -10 points from Discipline and +10 to Strength will be better dps.

From the boonhate you would need 4+ boons on the opponent at all times to give more dps with your greatsword.

Also, you may want to consider replacing the axe offhand with a mace or shield. Axe 5 does less dps than the autoattack, except it doesn’t have the hit limit of 3. A block skill/interrupt or a ranged AoE knockdown with a shorter cooldown than Backbreaker may better suit small-scale PvP.

I get where y our coming from but my take on this build was build up adrenaline fast and often in order to spam eviscerate as much as possible. GS was more of a mobility weapon.

I tried not speccing into arms in order to get more survivability and I assumed 50% crit was a pretty decent crit chance. What sort of crit chance would I need to benefit from the +10% crit damage more so than the +100 strength?

I’m a Axe/Axe and GS Warrior made purely for PvP.

I’m spread out pretty evenly between
Power ~1892
Precision ~1474 (31% crit no buff)
Toughness ~ 1486
Vitality ~ 1558
Crit Damage – 66%

10/0/10/20/30

I got 30 points in Discipline for the new boon hate trait
However, I’ve thought of changing a few things, I’d like your advice on them.

Choice 1
Take out 10 from discipline (lose 10% crit dmg and boon hate)
put it into precision and get 5% crit chance (36% flat crit chance – keeping in mind I ‘basically’ have 56% crit at least at all times thru fury)
take either the 33% chance for vulnerability – more damage
or 10% chance for swiftness – more sticking to foe ability
also, my Eviscerate NEVER seems to crit when I need it to… which I’m kinda tired of so I’d like to prop up my crit % a bit so that my Eviscerate actually crits when I need it to.

Choice 2
Take out 10 from discipline
put 10 into power – flat increase of 100 in power and still retain 10% crit damage thru Axe Mastery trait
however, the only issue I have is when does 100 become become less effective than boon hate (ie how many boons = 100 power worth of extra damage?)

  • PS I’m thinking of replacing my Power/Tough/Vit Chestplate for a Zerker kit, so that way I’ll get more precision and crit dmg at the loss of about 1k HP. But I’m okay with it, I think the trade off is worth it.

So Choice 1 or Choice 2?

If you let a Mesmer keep up phantasms its your own fault. They make up for a Mesmers lacklustre damage.

Why don’t we remove a Necros condition when they get downed while we’re at it? Let’s destroy all the Engineers turrets & eliminate the Ranger’s pet too.

I have to ask my character to get on her back more often.

I’m talking about their clones, I’ve killed a mesmer with maybe 1 or 2k hp remaining only to be downed by their clones then get killed, when in actually I “killed” them first.

The whole mechanic of downing is stupid, once you reach 0 hp, you should die.

So many times I’ve downed a thief/mesmer with little health remaining on myself, only to get taken down before I could finish them off because of the clones attacking me, even though the original is technically “dead”.

Then when I get downed, they have their clones + their 1 which does more damage than just me spamming my 1.

How is this fair? I took them down to 0 health first, fair and square. This gives summoning professions so much more advantage over “normal” profession.

That’s why thieves are such cheesy noobs. Stealth here hit you a couple of times, stealth and appear somewhere else, hit you a couple of times. Rinse and repeat.

Deal with it OP, why not play a thief then?

In other words, you’re a thief that likes how easy it is to play/get kills, and you’re scared that questioning broken mechanics may make things less easy for you, so all you can do is answer with a snarky, antagonizing comment.

I say why not remove stealth and then the THIEVES can deal with it.

I run with DW sword and LB mostly. Hammer is pretty awesome but most go with GS and the other thing because of burst damage and mobility.

And that’s why most warriors suck at pvp and that’s why warrior is in e lowest tier

Completely agree. Im really feel like i playing a game made by amateurs, lacking features, no idea about balance, 1 pvp type mode for over 6 months called esport..LOL

GW2 itself is nice, just different company has to buy it out and clean that mess.

I were think Diablo 3 is a fail, GW2 in current state beating it.

You know, I’d also change the burst skill of the MH sword. Flurry isn’t good – that’s a fact: it roots you into place for its duration and has a very short range. The damage isn’t much to cheer for either. I’d suggest changing it to a Death Blossom-y kind of attack, where you spin through the air, slicing up foes along the way. This would provide a) a non-rooted burst, b) something on par with the other weapons’ bursts which are actually useful and c) a reason to use the sword.

You might care more about PvP and WvW, but a weapon should be viable in all fields, not just one (and let’s be honest, WvWvW is sitting on a wall with an arrow cart or running in a zerg). I’ve played extensively with a hammer in PvE and found that while it is very useful for control, this control does not make up for the gap in DPS. Why is it perfect in the defence tree?

I think pretty much everyone cares more about pvp since pve only affects you and you only. Why does hammer need dps? Do all weapons need the same ttk? Because its really not that much slower than gs or axe

And it’s perfect in the defence tree because it gives you dmg and cdr and Stijl, allows to be tanky, instead of being stupidly forced to put 20 traits into precision and be a gc

No one is forcing you to use greatsword though, everyone knows axes are more consistent dps than HB.

I would quit GW2 if they removed all the cc from Hammer and turned it into another all out DPS weapon, GS is arleady a big enough noob magnet as is… Hammer and the 1h sword is that only weapon that really has its own unique niche.

I wrote “some”. As it is now, it’s almost only good for PvP/WvWvW and trash mobs. I wouldn’t want it as an all out dps weapon either – I just don’t want it as poor as it is now.

The fact is people are just plain greedy i bet most of those folks already got a legendary and now they just want to gain more and more gold and for what. I can promise you one thing as a person that dont really care for legendaries if i ever get a precursor i would sure as hell not sell it on the tp for 600g like some money hungry fool. Id sell it privatly at 200g maby 250g thats enough to fully gear all my caracters and buy all the ugrades i want. Nobody needs 600g

you’re asking A LOT of the people with precursors here. I mean, it’s just human instinct to hoard whatever gives them the advantage over another person. I’ve joined plenty of parties from gw2lfg.com without mesmers or warriors.

AND I’ve joined the full-warrior parties before. Guess what? Half of them usually don’t even use Greatsword – And this is after doing 1~2 runs a day, 4~5 days a week, for the last 4 months.

And for the record, finding those non-warrior parties is just as fast as finding those all-warrior parties. It’s a non-issue.

And what does it matter if people do favor 100blades for dungeon runs?
It’s a great PvE skill, which holds no consequences to other PvE players.

also, no it isn’t, that’s why they’re called speed runs, and they’re so specifically tuned towards zerker warrs/mesmers. Time warp + 100b = more damage than any other class combo.

I for one, would jump to it as soon as it was created. By I don’t think it would be that popular, it’s hard enough as is trying to find people to 1v1 you on EB JP.

I do want an “arena-mode”.

But the quality of your post is kitten.

“x sucks, x sucks, add arena.”

OP the solution to your problem is quite simple. Go back to wow. That is what you want so don’t ruin this game for others.

its sheepel like you that ruin skill in video games. Enjoying this mindless bs they call pvp its crap complete crap. they know what real pvp is and they need to implement it now.

Lol where did I say I enjoy the pvp. I just don’t want gear to affect spvp.

1) that’s why I suggest adding arena mode.
2) Nowhere did I say “make sPvP with the PvE armor we’re wearing”
3) if you don’t enjoy the pvp why you in a thread that obviously won’t affect you
4) my mindset isn’t ruining the game, your fanboy mindset is ruining the game. Any criticism, constructive or not helps to give the devs an idea of what players want, or what they can improve on. You sucking their kitten on everything they do isn’t going to improve the game. How about YOU leave the game and let the people who want to see the game improve, keep playing.

100blades has little to do with it.

I’ve joined plenty of parties from gw2lfg.com without mesmers or warriors.

AND I’ve joined the full-warrior parties before. Guess what? Half of them don’t even use Greatsword – And this is after doing 1~2 runs a day, 4~5 days a week, for the last 4 months.

there you go, you’ve never actually joined a CoF P1 speed farm group.

I honesty like the demand for warriors and mesmers.
Because it’s a great way to show me the mentality of players when creating a group.

I know what you mean. You see those “LF P1 6 MIN FARMS. FULL ZERKER WARRIOR. PING GEAR ON REQUEST!” noobs, thinking they’re so awesome because their glass cannon build works wonders on scripted PvE mobs, and that only to an extent, I believe a full glass cannon team like warr/mes groups are only useful in ONLY p1 cof.

WvW sucks – may as well call it ZvZ
sPvP sucks – people don’t want to play 150 hours to get the gear they want in PvE, then

play another 150 hours starting from scratch again, looking like a lv 1 noob.
only good PvP is the [sometimes, when youre not being mesmer camped] small scale PvP that happens in the jump puzzle in EB.

Just give us Arena mode where we can 1v1 or 5v5 or 3v3 or GvG WITH OUR CURRENT GEAR, maybe even knockout tourney style.
