Who cares about balancing PvE? PvP balancing is what matters. Seriously, I can’t believe people STILL complain about 100b, when other classes have whole mechanics to them that are way more op.
Do guardian. Unless your really good at warrior, a guardian will outtank you and out dps you (at the same time, not (well can be) either or)
greatsword:
half the damage of HB moved to auto-attack.
burst attack now leaps.
HB now castable while moving.Hammer:
This weapon feels very slow. Speed it up and add some damage and cripple (even if you have to remove some stun/kd. People have stun-break and stability out the wazoo already, it’s not as if the cc “matters” when you can take a nap while it swings.
because HB is so useful right? that you’d need gimp an already useless move in order to buff GS damage. GS autos do about the same as an Axe, just a little slower. GS has more mobility than any other warrior weapon, and you want to add more damage to its autos on top of its mobility?
Hammer is fine as it is. It does have a cripple, an awesome AoE on at that. With the right build you can stun your opponent every 8 ~ 10 seconds, provided you land them correctly and it doesn’t bug up on you. And what’s wrong with Hammer attack speed? It’s marginally slower than a GS, and it’s more than compensated by how hard it hits. The only reason I’d use GS is for its mobility.
Hammer: To make it more viable in PvE content, especially dungeons, I’d remove some of the crowd-control and simply up the damage and apply Vulnerability. And move the kitten trait away from Defense. Of course, I also want a one-handed hammer…
I would quit GW2 if they removed all the cc from Hammer and turned it into another all out DPS weapon, GS is arleady a big enough noob magnet as is… Hammer and the 1h sword is that only weapon that really has its own unique niche.

I dont know what to say about this mess…
?? what you mean?
It has issues with height differences in ground level
also, most of the time, I’ve been out flat ground. I usually don’t do leap skills on inclince/declines because all leaps skills screw up all the time with height difference.
I swear to god, I hit people that
1) don’t have stability
2) don’t dodge
3) are right in the middle of the green AoE circle (and I know 100% because on the ground when Earthshaker leaves the mark, they’re standing right bang in the bullseye spot)
and what do I get? either a “MISS” and it goes on cooldown, or it doesn’t stun at all. Can I get a confirmation on whether it’s bugged, because I swear to god, it only works like 20% of the time.
This is also why glass cannons seem to rule in PvP, no way to mitigate their damage unless you have protection.
Would depend on if you are going to use GS/Axe/Rifle or not in my opinion.
Those three weapons benefit the most out of crits while the other weapons can stick a big middle finger at crit chance and not care.
why don’t the “other weapons” need crit chance?
seeing as it doesn’t effect crits (whose bright idea was that), and with 99.9% of people running around with crit builds.
So does heightened focus work or not? I can’t seem to find a definite answer anywhere..
Tanky hammer warriors are very useful in dispersing enemy zergs when backed by their own.
Warriors specced for ultra mobility make great dolyak hunters.
Rifle warriors are zerg assassins, take out the enemy commander or important targets.
Longbow warriors with the death from above trait are probably the best tower defense against small zergs.Endure pain + spiked armor + Axe/axe warriors are the Zerg killer warriors.
(Not mine)
Although some say it requires teamwork, I did it today with pug zergs and I absolutely had bags everywhere on my feet.
that video is such a bad representation of common wvw zerg. You could not be in the front line of your zerg, between 10 enemies and only take one hit every few seconds.
Worst elite:
Most classes have built-in speedbuff of some sort or utility-based swiftness.
Warrior needs to bust, wair for it… AN ELITE…. AND it’s not even enough!
You also need to get +swift duration / boon duration for it to cover the uptime, usually having to waste rune slots.
Compare this to Dagger storm which throws tons of ricochet daggers for loads of damage plus bleeds, while also reflecting projectiles and also getting stability, SoR is a joke in comparison.
Other elites aren’t even worth mentioning. Not sure what your on about on swiftness. Every banner has swiftness, warhorn has swiftness, one of our trait lines has 10% runspeed with melee weapons. dispite your claims very few classes have 100% uptime on swiftness or excessive runspeed buffs. Thief has probably the strongest runspeed utility at 25% passive with an active that isnt worth useing in most cases to interupt the passive effect. Most other proffessions either have weaker speed boosts, conditional speed boosts(elementalist air trait) or must relly on whatever swiftness they can bring, often with lower uptimes than warriors to tell the truth. Charge(warhorn) and inspire(banner) have one of the better duration/CD ratios of any swiftness boon applying skills and both are group based.
I will agree that our eliets are far from perfect, heck rampage is worthless and theres a reason why most warriors take SoR as the best of the lot but dont try to claim its our only access to swiftness.
“banner”, Nuff said. Warhorn is the less kitten alternative for swiftness. Also you say “dispite your claims very few classes have 100% uptime on swiftness or excessive runspeed buffs” but that’s the thing, no other class really needs swiftness, it just makes them more viable than they already are. The only classes that should have swiftness should be engi and warrior.
Why should a class that can punish really hard if target’s stun breaks get forced out have godly survivability?
Either way, 4 more days or 14, can’t remember when the PvP patch is going to be. Class might get buffed regardless.
Why should classes that do so much more damage and so have much more sustain at the same time, not even either or have even godlier survivability than warriors?
lol range is only a small fraction of the problem. The biggest problem is pretty much all of Warrior’s leap skills, which have a very low chance of hitting a moving target, even if you are within range. That’s how buggy it is, which Anet hasn’t even bothered to fix since release.
straight facts :
- warrior got better *ranged *single target DPS then ranger
- warrior got double thief DPS on melle and hit 3 targets
- warrior got almost double base hp compared to thieves, elementarists guardians
- warrior got best ground targeting mobility in game – whirlwind -8 sec CD 450 range without swiftness ( selfbuff) /rush -1200 range / bull charge 900 range / leap 600 range – whirlwind available to use.
Compared with thief : poor acces to swiftness – 5 leaps x 450 range
elementarist – good acces to swiftness -less mobility skills
warrior got
- pasive stability , endure pain for an duel
-hightest heal in 1 single utility
-hightest underwater mobility with banners ( 4 sec cooldown for rush underwater….. )
Warrior is item dependent, and in sPvP he cannot use his full potential, however you see in wvwvw warriors killing enemy’s in under 3 seconds , and hey, what other class can solo Arah EXP ?, what other class can solo champions in pve ?what are you rambling on about?
- single target DPS in zerg v zerg? I’m sure that would do more damage than an AoE in a group of 20+ people
- are you kidding me? I’ve been hit by thieves for 5k+. The only way I’m ever going to hit 5k on someone is 1) if I go glass cannon (and last a few seconds) or 2) land my unlandable burst moves. Even if though thieves are glass cannon they’ll last 10 times longer than a “sustain” warrior, because of their stealth mechanics
- like I said, double base HP is useless when you get bursted down by 3 dudes in like 5 seconds, when eles or thieves that have half the hp we have, have so much more escapability than us.
- I’d rather ride the lightning or go stealth every few seconds than use any/all of the buggy kitten warrior gap closers- warriors don’t have passive stability.
- are you serious? 1. Guards have higher heals than us 2. They’re constantly regening health.
- underwater fighting… yeah coz those happen all the time… and please, upload a video of you soloing Arah Exp.1.i am not sure if this guy is an warrior , and if this is zerg vs zerg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0C7XdnY73A
2. 5k backstab vs 18k Hb is relative poor damage, so try not to be so sarcastic
3. if you get bursted down in 5 seconds when you can have 8- 9 seconds endure pain, i will assume is an l2p issue
4. i am sure thieves would prefer to have bull charge and endure pain, and balanced stance. I am also sure elementarists would love an 15k base HP but you cannot have all in 1.
5. Defence – Master-Trait -VIII.- Last Stand -Activates Balanced Stance when you are dazed, knocked down, launched, pushed back, or stunned.
Balanced Stance -You gain stability.: 8 s – Breaks stun
Cool trait ? something new ?
6 .
Guardian’s best heal – Signet of resolve – Healing: 8,150 – 0 healing power
warrior’s best heal : – Healing Surge -Stage 3 heal: 8,440 – 0 healing power
7. underwater fight happens, not all the time but there are sPvP maps where underwater fight is deciding factor, and in WvWvW quagans are important
8. i haven’t solo’d Arah but some guys did

1. notice how these Warrior WvW 5v20+ zergs, they never get hit or focused? bad enemies, like mancleaver vid.
2. 18k Hb. Lol. Because you land every hit on 100b every time right?
3. Bursted down in 5 seconds, endure pain for extra 8 seconds. Run away and cry and wait for your HP to regen. Also, 90 second cd.
4. And no, thieves don’t want a buggy kitten bull charge or a long kitten cd endure pain, when they can stealth in and out every few seconds.
5. Last stand looks great on paper, but it’s buggy and doesn’t really work as it’s intended. Also, 90 second cd. I wouldn’t call that “passive”. I’m willing to bet you’ve never actually used this trait.
6. Passive, cures a condition every 10 seconds, can remove 2 every 10 seconds if traited. Also, guardian regen + heal > warrior “big” heal relying on max adrenaline.
8. glass cannon, I have to give it to the warr, very good timing his dodges etc. But pvp you’re not vsing scripted mobs.
(edited by Mattidore.3482)
people are always trying to play warrior in pvp like they do in pve.
theory craft all you want, in pvp you are playing against real people who behave in a different way then mobs do in pve. building yourself for 3500 attack with 3200 defense and 30k hp isn’t going to be as effective in pvp as theory crafters believe, and when that fact confronts them they get upset.
the warrior is in a pretty good place, probably one of the best places compared to every other profession in the game.
is that like vs bots? He goes into a group of 4vlike 20, and doesn’t even get hit? Again, like that mancleaver build, just tonnes of bad enemies. Probably all scaled up too.

Agreed to pretty much everything in this post.
However, I don’t think warrior will get a revamp soon or even anywhere in the near ~ far future. Because for some reason, I think Anet thinks that warrior isn’t a p.o.s class and is just right where it is. I.E they’re too lazy to even think about changing anything with the warrior because they’re too busy making up more boring (holiday) content.

ITT GW2 fanboys who can’t see how kitten PvP is in Guild Wars 2.
Yes, GW2 has one of the most awkward PvP in an MMO I’ve played. The PvP in this game is either kill someone in 2 seconds, or survive longer than 2 seconds so as to be a distraction so that someone else can kill someone in 2 seconds. There’s no such thing as “sustain” in GW2 pvp since “sustain” means you’ll last an extra few seconds.
Not to mention the Anet devs failed completely at PvP modes.
sPvP is boring, noone wants to level up AGAIN just to get cooler looking armor when you’ve already got it all in PvE
Zerg v Zerg, I mean World v World speaks for itself.
you miss the beauty of this skills OP
so you can actualy rush/ leap betwen 20 enemy’s without auto target and escape at 1200 range, but you want your skill to be “missle”
Guardians " would kill " to have an skill like rush or savage leap.
For eviscerate , remember range is low, 300, melle range is 130 , consider that
You just turn off auto target… and why would guardians need to charge through 20 enemies to get away??? They just tank them all and walk out.
Anyways, my whole build, which is centered around auto attack and eviscerate spamming every 8 seconds is pretty much useless… since eviscerate never hits. Plz, Anet, why do leap skills not work and why does an ultimate move only have 300 range?
Like eviscerate, rush, savage leap, sheild bash. And yes, I am using them within their range. They miss even if the opponent doesn’t use his dodge. If he is moving slightly slightways or in any direction your leap skill wont hit because it aims for the place where your opponent was when you pressed the button not where he is moving. It doesn’t even get you in range to use your other skills since it places you slightly behind the opponent (because they’ve moved from the original spot) so it leaves you just out of range for your OTHER moves. You gain some ground but no substantial gain since if you’ll then have to wait until your immbolise, cripple, or kd move is back up again. Until then you’ll just keep chasing and swining your weapon and the only thing you’ll see is “miss”, “miss”… “miss”
tbh, I’m finding it REALLY hard to motivate myself to stick to a warr and not reroll… we just seem so useless compared pretty much every other class…
Agreed guards are stronger/tankier/flashier versions of warrs… It’s sad really
Your eviscerate does 8-10k dmg? Are you running zerkers? Because my autos and eviscerate barely ever reach 2k and 8-10k crits.
Ah thanks guys. And yeah eviscerate seems a bit lack lustre for an ultimate. It’s leap distance is really average and bugs up on slopes and there should totally be an after effect
I was knights then went full clerics, not worth it IMO. Going through the painstaking process of converting back to knights
Okay so in the power trait line I’ve got the trait that gives me x% damage increase per Lviv of adrenaline and in the discipline trait line the trait that gives you 75% of one bar per shout, rolling 3 shouts. So that means I can pretty much spam Lv 3 eviscerate as soon as its 10 sec cd is qover. However would I actually do more damage if I was to save the eviscerates and just get the 12%passive buff and just use eviscerate as a surprise burst to finish low hp’s?
It doesn’t make sense that there is a longbow/rifle trait, a trait that makes spears do more damage (although in conjuction with GS), a trait for mace and hammer, but axe? Axe trait is with the necromancer. I’m talking about the trait “Axe Training – Axe damage is increased and axe skills recharge 20% faster”. I mean wtf? Wouldn’t it be more useful with a warrior?
Props to the OP for providing an entertaining post and video.
Off-topic rant:
What is starting to annoy me however is every one of these warrior vids I see is a glass cannon spec, and succeeding in fights. Surviving somehow because absolutely every opponent seems to have no combat abilities on their hotbars or the ability to target the warriors. Yet every time I get in a fight in SPvP or WvW it’s a constant uphill battle of focused target condi + burst dumps on my warrior and 3-7 people focus firing and support stomping which leads to an average uptime of maybe 10 seconds while having to gear and spec defensively or else the focus fire drops the war in 4 seconds (3 for endure pain and 1 to take 40k damage from a coordinated group).Seriously, what servers do all these players exist on where 28 run from a whirling warrior and are unable to even all press 1 on him at the same time in order to deal 30k damage and drop him in 1 second?
/rant
yeah i was wondering how he was surviving for so long in that 1v5 or something (2nd battle). I thought it was the warrior but in actual fact, it was the enemies’ noobness that were too op for themselves.
advantage of Axe(mainhand) over GS
Axe
- Better dps overall on auto attack versus hundred blades
- Allows use of a second weapon (shield/warhorn/mace/axe/(sword – not worth)) and another sigil on offhand
- Burst skill is actually very strong “surprise burst dmg”
GS
- Best mobility + has whirlwind dodge
- Whirlwind technically has a higher dps than auto attack of axe regarding single target dps (if whirlwind is done on a wall, etc.)
- both have long range cripples, but GS is harder to land persay (opinion here)
- Never use burst skill, since berserkers power + heightened focus benefit more throughout than to use the burst skill.
yes, Axe has better dps on auto attacks BUT that’s just on paper, assuming your target isn’t kiting while ccing you. So since GS has a lot of mobility than axe (therefore a lot more chances to actually land your autos), in practice, wouldn’t GS have a higher dps than Axe?
(edited by Mattidore.3482)
If the auots on Axe is it’s best damage dealer, wouldn’t you say GS is A LOT better than axe? Since with a GS you can spam autos like Axe, still doing similar (maybe a bit less damge) than axes, but with so much more mobility than axes and so much easier to actually stick to your enemy and not let them kite you.
Even if you manage to stick to your target using lv3 Eviscerate every 10 seconds, that’s still less face sticking ability than GS 3 and 5, thus less time to land your autos. Not to mention eviscerate has kitten poor range.
Thoughts?
(edited by Mattidore.3482)
Okay sorry, this is probably a common topic but I’ve analysed both and I really can’t make up my mind
Greatsword Pros
high mobility (3 and 5) both on relatively short cooldowns. Can be really useful for warrior since we are so easily kited
Greatsword Con
100b, the GS main damage outputter is very hard to land, even if you cripple/1sec immoblize (with trait) with your 4. However a short cd, 6.5seconds (especially with Trait in Discpline 20)
Axe Pro
opposite of GS, Whirling Axe is easy to hit and is AoE, however longer a cd than 100b, 20 seconds.
Axe Con
a lot less mobility than GS. (i’ll disregard Eviscerate as a gap closer since it has such a short range)
And herein lies my dilemma, the Axe Pro/GS con and Axe con/GS pro sort of even each other out… however, I am wondering, if I it is possible of doing more damage in one full Whrling Axe than 3×100bs (6.5×3= 9.5 sec cd = Whirling Axe cd) that only hits 2 or 3 times per 100b (out of it’s 8,).
In my opinion I think landing only 2 or 3 hits per 100b but doing that 3 times will do a little more damage (cumulatively) than one full Whirling Axe. So that’s why at the moment I’m using a GS over dual axes, but what do you guys think?
(edited by Mattidore.3482)
I think one of the biggest problems in pvp (wvw) is that warriors often can’t really stick to enemies (which goes against the whole design philosophy of being a warrior/melee) the only real weapon that has in your face skills is the GS with charge and whirlwind. Combined with the fact that if a warrior can’t really stick to a target, the target can always kite until their endurance is back up, and dodge possible cc moves like the Hammer R etc.
Yes there is bull’s charge but that has a heck of a long cd
(edited by Mattidore.3482)
So I’m trying to get back into GW2 again, but I just keep getting reminded of why I left in the first place, the warrior seems to suck at PvP (WvW)
1. Little cc removal – we can dish out cc, in the form of blunt weapons but we ourselves have really no good way of removing cc on ourselves. Heal removes 2, shake it off 1. But there’s so much cc in GW2/WvW you’ll most likely just get cc’d again right off the bat.
2. Slow/Easily Kited – our only movement buff is from Signet of Rage. While other classes seem to be able to be boosted 90% of the time, or keep you cc’d so that you can’t even catch up to them. Most of the time it feels like I’m chasing after a target I can’t catch. And when I do catch someone, they just run around heal back up, and by the next time I catch them, their heal is back up
3. Little Survivability – because warriors are so slow with little form of cc removal, even though we seem to have the most hp, we still get dropped pretty quick. While others classes with half our hp can run around and kite and last twice as longer.
4. Little Damage – so atm, I’m rolling a hammer warrior, and we do kitten all damage, in theory, we have tonnes of cc, and should be able to keep people stun locked, but in practice this just doesn’t happen, and I don’t think I could ever 1v1 anyone because all the reasons mentioned above.
longevity… there i said it.
Hey guys OP here.
I guess this wasn’t the game that I am looking for after all. I guess I’m too ingrained into the WoW style of questing and gear grinding. It might be old, but I guess that’s what I find fun.
Also, I just want to say in WvW, melee’s become kinda useless because if you go in a zerg say as a warrior, you’ll probably get cc’d and die before you can land a hit. Zerging in an open field (and to an extent objectives) just becomes two zerg group range attacking each other and the group with more numbers will generally eventually push the smaller zerg out… I see this as a big problem.
I mainly bought Guild Wars 2 for the pvp, because I played Guild Wars 1 and the pvp in that was really fun. I thought WvW was gonna be really awesome but after WvWing for a while it just became static and a huge zerg fest (besides, my comp doesn’t seem to be good enough to handle the zerg fests – otherwise I might still be zerging). I tried sPvP but I just can’t get into it, after doing 80 levels of PvE to make my guy look cool, I just can’t commit enough to get my guy looking how I want him solely through sPvP.
I’ve heard players suggest things like:
Map Completion – but I don’t see the point in going back and run around in empty zones doing hearts where I just 1 shot everything and nothing is a challenge.
Crafting Legendaries – I also don’t see the point of spending THAT much time trying to craft a legendary just for the skin (also, I believe my guy looks sufficiently cool as he is now)
Events – I’ve never been into events… I didn’t really like the Halloween event, I did the jumping quest etc but didn’t find it really that great. And the Wintersday one isn’t that interesting either, I don’t see the point of making minis when they don’t do anything, and I went into the event where you play music notes… which was… stale; if I was to describe in one word.
Fractals – because of the reasons above I for a while, but I really want to play an MMO. I came back a little while after the Lost Shores update was announced however, I can’t find anyone to do lv 1 Fractals, everyone has gone past and is looking for minimum lv 5 all the time. I can be in map chat for like an hour and not find a single person to do lv1 Fractals with.
Alts – never been into levelling alts, especially if I’m just going hit a wall like I have.
GW2 seems to be heavily reliant on holiday events (Halloween, Xmas, probably an Easter and Valetines one), however, I’ve never been into those and probably never will be into events. Is GW2 just not the game for me?
They need open world PvP or some open PvP zones… some/a lot of people don’t have good enough comps for a 100 man zerg. Or a 1v1 Arena, or PvP where you DON’T have to re-grind all your gear again.
I think you missed the point of my thread…
“it really just sounds like you want duels or a place where you can gank players in some sort of 1v1 system.”
Yes I would very much like a 1v1 system to PvP, as I find it a lot more enjoyable than a constant zerg fest. I’m just wondering, did you read the other points I made about 1 server dominance, and zerg festing that is… our WvW system?
“Even in spvp where its either 8v8 or 5v5, your biggest issues aside from cosmetics was you weren’t getting fair fights?”
No, my biggest issue about sPvP is that would work to lv80 in PvE in order to look cool, but then once you start sPvP you lose all you aesthetic goals you’ve achieved rendering your whole PvE experience useless, and dare I say it, a waste of time.
The problem with these limitations is that, this is what “GW2 endgame is” or if you want to take the whole “the whole game is endgame” stance. then WvW/sPvP is pretty much all there is to do once you hit 80. At the moment, and I’m sure there are a lot of people in my position too, that are lv80, are decently geared, that have nothing to do because their server in WvW is either getting owned, or is owning (both are boring as hell) and cannot be bothered to play the whooollleee game again in sPvP in order to gain their aesthetics again. There’s really nothing that’s keeping me in tact, other than the prospect that WvW get more enjoyable once it resets.
So I made this post http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/12g2m0/my_gripe_with_wvwspvp/ on reddit, but it appears that it’s not really getting the attention I believe it needs, as it addressed some major issues to do with WvW/sPvP and maybe the longetivity of GW2 and its ability to retain its playerbase. Thoughts?
I’m hoping people here will be a bit more open minded instead of tucking it behind the shelf and try forget/deny there are real problems.
yes, we’re melee casters.

Hi I’m a lv80 warrior, looking for a NZ/AUS Guild preferably mainly lv80’s. Main goal is to run Twilight Arbor (aesthetic purposes) and then WvW.
I can confirm that Heightened Focus does not work.
awesome! Glad to know I dont have to build something I don’t want to just to be viable in PvP!
Well I was just wondering how important crits are? Like, are you useless in PvP if you don’t crit? Because I tried crit build dual axes when I was a bit lower level and I found that I was realllllyyy squishy and really had no utility because I had to get all signets for the precision trait. And I quite like being tanky with points into the Vitality / Toughness traitline…
so, is the loss of utility and survivability worth the critical strikes? If not, I would prefer to stay as the build I am now.
guys thoughts on this build:
http://gw2.luna-atra.fr/skills_tool/
1) lots of cc removal from 2nd tier runes from Tactics and Defense
2) Missle deflection on 2 skills. Counter blow and shield stance.
3) extra long cc after every interrupt you do (lots of interrupts because shield + mace has lots of interrupt skills)
man that sucks knowing I’ve spent this much time into one champ only to find out that the most mediocre build is the only viable one… How would you rate a dual axe build? Because as far as I’m aware Hundred Blades is easily kiteable + you can’t move while you do it. Whearas whirling axe you can move. thoughts?
plus i’ve been reading on here that 2h hammers are actually better than 2 swords?
Is 1h Mace and shield viable in PvP? I tried it out in WvW today and I found it kinda hard to hit ANYONE. They would just run circles around me kiting me. I would charge them with Bull’s Charge but then by the time I almost finish my first swing, the kd is off and they’re off again. So, is 1h mace viable or too slow for PvP?
bro kitten being the “DPS factor” build tanky warrior with shield and mace and it’ll take like 8 guys 20 seconds to kill you. In structured PvP i place top or top 3 out of both teams almost always. Also, you can keep someone disabled (kd’d stunned dazed) for like 5 or 6 seconds flat, if it’s a squishy, you’ll have them running while you keep kding and stunning them. Tanky’s are surprisingly easy to get kills with
