The wiki also got recently changed on April 27th to show MMORPG where it has been shown as competitive/cooperative online rpg.

lol
Because there’s no such thing as a “CORPG”.
That’s a term coined by anet to make GW1 stand out.

Gw2, WoW, ESO, those are all MMORPGs. GW is a lobby game with instanced maps. The difference is in the playing area. While you can stand around in the cities, the actual maps you play on in GW are solo to up to 8 people. Up to 8 people is not Massively Online for the parts where people play.

Arenanet tried to reinvent the wheel and failed catastrophically.

On the contrary, it succeeded wonderfully.

Uh, yeah it was so succesful the game lost the vast majority of its original playersbase and was forced to go F2P.

Your definition of success s a bit skewed.

Arenanet tried to reinvent the wheel and failed catastrophically.

In paper, GW2 was supposed to be an innovative MMO, but in practice it was an awful, clunky mess.
These “broken promises” are an attempt to fix an unfixable game, by turning it into a more traditional MMO.

Blaming “traditional mmo players” is silly. The ones at fault are Arenanet and the people who bought into their ideas in the first place. Renown Hearts were in the game since Beta, I don’t know what you’re talking about.

It’s funny how you’re associating Arenanet’s mistakes and failures as hallmarks of traditional MMOs, when games like FFXIV are extremely succesful (even with a sub fee) while GW2 was forced to go F2P to maintain a relatively decent playerbase.

This game is supposed to feel frustrating. Arenanet’s business model wouldn’t work if it was actually fun.

The game has become terrible, I would pay $500 if I could return to 2014 GW2’s meta with the current PvP and WvW tourneys and rewards. Specializations destroyed all build variety and smashed the vision of this game. Leave now before you get addicted and turn this game into a chore.

Agreed.
I’d rather pay a sub fee and enjoy higher quality content than to stomach the trash Anet puts out regularly.

Generally speaking GW2’s story is really mediocre and so is the content offered in LS2. If you really want to buy something, buy the LS3 maps, just for the farms.

Arenanet’s business model works by drawing in new, clueless players to the game and tricking them into wasting their money on mediocre content. Player permanence is not a priority to Anet.

….

The term “ANET logic” is defined as “an action or decision that accomplishes a goal that either doesn’t fix the underlying issue, and/or overcompensates to create the exact same problem in another area of the game”. Their design process is plagued with blind spots that even players are quick to figure out; and many of their attempted remedies fail to understand an underlying problem… often making the situation worse in the long term. A series of small scale solutions being applied to a systemic issue, and inevitably exacerbates the underlying cause to cartoonish proportions.

AFK farming is NOT the actual problem….. its the fact that there is a glaring disparity between demand generation and source generation. And rather make adjustments to either, they opted to insert a Farm that was too difficult to use as a farm, not engaging enough to be worth doing in its own right, and were upset when players discovered a more effective, if lesser version of what they designed…… then killed it, rather then learning something critical about why the AFK farm developed in the first place. The leather farm was flawed on several levels, and directly violates a number of key design points within GW2’s philosophy….. it literally fights the game to get the players to do one specific thing, and the players are keenly aware of it. The groups don’t naturally coalesce because of how the gauntlet was designed, and actively expects players to do the opposite of what a gauntlet is designed to do- and the only way to work around that is have a Commander surrogate for a point of focus, that would normally be done by a map event. It lacks a clear goal to build and release tension that makes for an engaging event; leaving nothing for the players to be easily swept up in and have fun while doing the farm. Thats why the AFK farm went AFK….. the only interesting thing to happen is Imellhoof (aka AFK Check)- and hes on a 2 hour timer.

however, most measures suggested here would affect practically all players, not just actual afk farmers

this anti-farming crusade borderlines on fanatical
the sensible option would be to let people play the game however they want as long as it doesn’t break the tos

the problem with afk farming is that there is no problem with afk farming

farmers, afk or not, fill a niche in the game economy
most whiny kittens here interpret (afk) farming as a problem and that’s fine, it’s their opinion
objectively, loot drops obtained from regular gameplay aren’t enough to maintain reasonable prices in the trading post, point in case: leather mats

here come farmers, who alleviate the kittened prices by filling the demand for x material

i guess most of these sycophants defending anet would rather spend real money in gems to skip the grind

Like this

i know they play their own game, that much should be obvious

they’re just oblivious to the woes of the average player
i’ve never seen an anet employee try to climb watchtower hills or solo HPs in a dead map, etc

they don’t acknowledge their kittenty design choices because they don’t actually have to experience them

The developers want players to play, to stick around for a long time and keep playing. That’s not encouraging farming, it’s encouraging longevity. Refusing to acknowledge that doesn’t make it untrue, or wrong, any more than refusing to acknowledge gravity allows you to fly.

Other MMOs like FFXIV and WoW have mastered the grind, they know how to make it enjoyable, coincidentally. Those two subscription based MMOs have a much larger playerbase than GW2, are far more successful and have better, more competent developers.

They seldom take action against farming spots or player behaviour because why would they? Those players are paying to play however they want.

In Arenanet’s business model, anything that makes the grind just a bit easier is the devil because then players won’t be tempted to buy gems. This is the same reason they decided to kitten the trade system and make it practically useless (players making their own deal is bad)

This rant is moot because the farm didn’t really affect anyone or anything. The market prices remained practically unchanged and people were still able to complete the events at Doric.

Anet should focus on creating content, fixing bugs, etc. They’ve no reason to directly intervene with the game’s economy.

Players who complain about the farm spots are clueless and almost never have an argument. The farm does not affect anyone and it does not affect the in-game economy in any way.
They’re a very vocal minority. Why Anet decided to listen to them is beyond me.

I can see the idea, and I disagree with it

You’d rather reject a feature because you fear players might misuse it, instead of hoping arenanet implements it in a way so that it can’t be abused? Anet could simply limit markers to the squad leader.

Please, do explain, what would a personal waypoint communicate to your raid team?

How come players rarely (if ever) abuse the much more advanced marker system in FFXIV? Be real, there’s no reason not to have markers as a basic feature.

It’s just seems like a very basic and useful thing to have. Why put it behind such a prohibitive price tag?

If, for whatever reason, the guy with the commander tag can’t show up to the raid then we would still be able to use objective markers.

Other MMOs let players use markers for free. If Anet has enough time to spite leather farmers surely they can implement markers as a basic squad feature.

It’s not their job to decide how people want to play the game. Other MMO developers seldom take action against farming spots, why the kitten does Anet intervene in matters that do not directly concern them?

Any chance these could be added as basic squad functionality?

FFXIV allows players to place markers without spending money, and they’re super useful in raids, dungeons, bosses, etc.

Alternatively, create a (much) cheaper version of the Commander’s Compendium that allows players to use markers.
I just find it weird how such a basic mechanic is locked behind a 300g/30 dollars paywall.

  • The game’s economy, such as it is, is built and balanced around players actually playing in order to acquire items, currencies and other rewards. Farming creates imbalances, driving prices for some items up, devaluing other items, sometimes forcing developers to adjust pricing on some items while removing others (or making them more difficult to obtain).

lol no it’s not

The economy is built around a hellish grind for mats, tempting players to buy gems and skip it entirely.

People kittening about AFK farming probably have never tried to craft and Ascended armor or a Legendary.

Arenanet does this on purpose. eg. PvP used to be a great way to aquire ascended armor if you were a good PvPer, now it’s arguable worse than grinding for mats, requiring you to spend 500g+

Another example is Viper’s or Celestial gear, which is almost as difficult to obtain as an ascended armor

It’s the developers fault for encouraging farming by creating these disgusting grinds, which they promised they would not do

While in WvW people get ascended gear from random rewards, we have to spend like 500g in crafting marks to get pieces of ascended armour. The grind is kittening ridiculous.
I remember when PvP was actually one of the best ways to get ascended armour if you were a skilled PvPer, now it’s actually more expensive to get ascended gear trough PvP than to just craft it and change stats.

Stuff like the Auric Basin and the Exalted are a step in the right direction but that hardly makes up for all the bad storytelling and shallow characters we’ve had to deal with since S1.

Once you finish the personal story, you’re throw into a completely different story arc full of literally whos with no context or relevance whatsoever (Rox, Taimi, Salads, the norn guy etc.).

And if you do want context for the current story and characters you need to spend like 20 dollars to buy all the previous seasons.

Meanwhile, when people ask for features like GvG or guild halls, fanboys and Arenanet are actually against adding it, justifying their laziness by saying this like “Oh but WvW is the same!” or “Nobody wants that!”.

You can approach the NSDAP’s ideas with a different mindset and find them agreeable. Just kidding, don’t, the game is lacking basic features that almost every MMO has, Anet calls this “innovation”.

I used to scorn people that said “Don’t like it, don’t play it” but now I actually agree with them, don’t support a game that you dislike. If you have to waddle trough 3-4 hours of boring content before you get to the “good stuff” (spoilers, more boring content) then it’s not worth trying.
IF and IF you do get hooked, then prepare for a big disappointment, once you finish the content the game has you’ll be stuck with one of the silliest business models ever conceived. Basically you’ll be receiving some bi-weekly grind (if Anet feels like it) , rehashed seasonal events and lots of gem store exclusive content/items.

Also, to the fanbois defending ANet for punishing players like this, What if someone already experienced all the content on another character?

See my post above for solutions

Leveling trough dungeons isn’t viable since ANet punishes doing dungeons,

Wat? 1up per dungeon, sp-scrolls from chests, enough loot to fill up your collectibles quite fast…

renown hearts are just boring fetch quests or “kill X” quests.

They include this option, yes, because some actually like to faceroll and spam 1 through PvE only, but usually they offer more than enough additional tasks to complete them with. Actually, some hearts even punish you for just killing mobs since the additional tasks would fill your progress bar much faster.

In case you didn’t know, Dungeons have a diminishing returns system, so even if you manage to find a party that wants you, among the “zerker speedrun exp only”, you can only do it once before the rewards stop being meaningful.

Except that you can run all available paths a day for full rewards, you still get the champion bags (loot / slavagable materials / skillpoints) after that, and you still get 1up per additional run.
Yes, the return in badges and gold will be reduced after the 1st run per path, but for leveling reasons I don’t see a problem there.

IF you’re level 80, you can run all paths.
IF you manage to find a party that wants you.
I said leveling, yeah you can run all paths once you’ve unlocked all paths, but someone who’s level 30-35 will always be rejected for wanting to run a CoA path just because he isn’t 80, zerker, etc…
And the XP is reduced as well, don’t try to ignore that, when I ran SE P1 twice the XP i got went down by 15% easily.

Are you doing this on purpose?
Warcraft the RTS is not related to WoW, the MMO, in any way whatsoever, besides lore.
Why would anyone complain about Warcraft in the WoW forums when the game is old as hell and it’s not related to WoW?

Warcraft the RTS is related to WoW the MMO just as much as Guild Wars the COORPG is related to Guild Wars 2 the MMO, by the Lore.

So how is your playing GW1 for many hours any more relevant to the GW2 forums than someone playing WC1-3 is to WoW forums?

In both cases they are completely different games.

Son, maybe English isn’t your first language, but this forum is in gasp English, so it’s expected you have some basic reading comprehension.

I was originally talking about how fanboys might chase off people that want to give feedback. Said feedback is related to GW2, not GW1, because this forum is meant for discussion related to GW2. I mentioned GW1 as an offhand comment, showing my support for Arenanet, that way, said rabid fanboys won’t spit vitriol at me thinking I’m a “hater”.
You following so far? good.

Then, you mentioned Warcraft and the WoW forums.
Now, this is gonna be hard, you might want to pull your English 101 book.
Ready?
Your analogy is flawed.
It would make sense if you were talking about WoW, the more recent game, as I was talking about GW2, the most recent game.
Since discussion about GW2 is relevant here, it would only make sense that discussion about WoW is only relevant in the WoW forums.
Warcraft and GW1 aren’t relevant, so discussing them in their respective forums is pointless, get it?

Now go take a toefl course or change the language of the forum.

What if I played GW1 and sank thousands of hours on it?

I just want the game to be better than what it is right now. Keep following this train of thought and this game will end up dead, after all the rabid fanboys chase off people that want to provide feedback.

If you love the game clearly you don’t dislike it. There are on the other hand people that have never done anything other than complain about every single thing in the game on these forums, which quite clearly shows that they really dislike the game and should just move on.

I played (and loved) Warcraft 1-3 and yet you don’t see me on the WoW forums complaining about how much it sucks and that they should change everything.

There is a rather large difference between providing feedback and simply hating everything. Many of the people that we see in basically every single thread doesn’t complaining doesn’t really provide any feedback. They just say that everything sucks, without giving any suggestion on how to fix it, or motivate why it sucks.

Uh, WoW is the MMO, warcraft is the RTS.

All I want for christmas is that people that clearly dislike the game moves on instead of constantly spamming these forums and let those of us that like it enjoy it and discuss things here.

What if I love the game?
What if I played GW1 and sank thousands of hours on it?

I just want the game to be better than what it is right now. Keep following this train of thought and this game will end up dead, after all the rabid fanboys chase off people that want to provide feedback.
