Amazing changes, thank you very much brandon (and the entire team)!

what I would love to see is a keybind & lock for first person so as I could change the FOV with the mousewheel, basically giving us a zoom lens.

//edit
actually, being able to map “in-/decrease fov” to keys would be even better, maybe the arrow keys “up/down”
Which leaves arrow keys “left/right” for panning.

I think this would open up tons of possibilities for video content creators as well as improve home-made vistas.

Imagine a zoom out from minimum FOV to wide angle first person and then a panning out to third person wide angle, sounds pretty sweet to me.

With the FOV set to minimum it does feel like a nice medium tele lens, perhaps adjust the depth of field in relation to the focal length and make it more shallow? It’s not an FOV setting players would use to run around the world I’m sure but since this game focuses heavily on how (our own) characters look, this might be the right tool to push that even further.

I won’t be able to spend a lot of time with the new camera options until the end of next week but what I experienced so far is nothing short of amazing, it just feels right.
My fps has always been lower, especially with everything set to max and supersampling 2560 resolution I’m very much used to having 2-3fps while taking screenshots :P
I hope you can improve the fps issues some are having.

I found the camera height options more than enough. In general I’ve gotten more than I could have hoped for and it works extremely well.

Thank you again for the amazing camera.

Will the FOV slider allow “odd” focal lengths without fix steps?
Or can we expect 5-6 steps between the current camera and the widest setting?
Similar to how the camera position is now, with 5 options to choose from.

Have you ever considered stitching the FOV with 2 cameras, one set to “left” and one to “right” for a more cinematic feeling without the distortion a wide angle has?

Does this quote apply to all items which can’t be salvaged but still forged?

First I wanted to say it’s great you’ve talked to the community so often and in such a straightforward fashion.

I don’t know if my question has been asked before, the posts have become quite long and if someone has an answer that would be great.

After the transition to the new wardrobe, Several items have become a burdern to player inventories such as armors bought with karma and even armor bought with gold. Does it seem detrimental if these items could be salvaged?

1) Gold cost of buying cultural armor and even armor skins from each order doesn’t seem like it would offset the possible ‘ecto’ gain of salvaging. Would this be likely to happen in the near future?

2) If karma armor could be salvaged only to remove upgrades added to the armor (and possibly not runes that came with such an armor) be possible in the future? Or is it mainly the fear of possible unknown exploits that’s keeping this from being implemented?

Large game systems often require consistency, like following coding standards when programming. It’s a giant collaborative process and consistency protects us and the players.

Can these items be categorized as personal rewards when telling people which can’t be salvaged?

I’ve read a few messages in guild & map chat from new players asking why salvaging doesn’t work with select items. It doesn’t feel good to throw those away, which is the only alternative to travel to the mystic forge and I wish this wasn’t the case as they are one time rewards only, opposed to items bought with karma.

Oh, so it wasn’t a bug after all… I charged a key a little while ago because I finally crafted mawdrey. Since the fire ele is (potentially) the last step I expected the portal to open and assumed it was bugged like many others suspected.

There is usually a commander or two on the map when FE happens, why not write them and ask if they’d like to join “your” timing. If yes, do it and if declined don’t do it.

I see that you and your guild are by opening the event also providing one guaranteed key, which is nice of you.
Also your efficiency argument makes sense to a degree, mapchat just doesn’t seem the best tool for communicating this.

See it from a different angle, by providing the key after FE you’d be supporting the train as it is without having to change other players routine.

You are not wrong by doing the event earlier but you will make other players feel wronged nonetheless. Just ask the commanders directly and see if you can convince them, people would probably like a more efficient route after all.

Really doesn’t seem like an issue that can’t be solved with communication. This one champ bag doesn’t seem worth all the hate though, on either side.

Good to know the steam ogre is working as intended though, maybe write on reddit as well.

hey imp,

If you feel like taking a look at other races’ capital cities you can use the Asura gate (teleportation gate) in the center of Divinity’s Reach to get to Lion’s Arch, which is/used to be a central hub for all races.

From there you can reach all other cities with ease and explore. Don’t worry about “wasting time” as you will gain experience exploring as well

here some pictures, you really can’t miss the portals

make sure to check out Rata Sum, it’s home to the Asura who will rule Tyria one day

[MAC] High-rez Textures Ever?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Michael Walker.8150

Michael Walker.8150

yes, it has but without a forum search function and the mac forum archived, you probably won’t be able to find it easily.

long answer short: it needs 64bit, cider supports 32bit. as soon as the cider wrapper gets an update to 64 bit we can have high res textures.

also you need a quad core cpu

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/FPS-Issue-with-the-9-9-patch-merged/page/6#post4506286

you can use bootcamp though to install windows if you need high res textures

Gaile,

Could you add [MAC] tags to these threads?

The problem is that tech support forum moves rather fast and once combined with account issues it will move even faster. It will be hard to locate Mac threads. Also will new Mac customers know to post [Mac Beta] tag in their thread title? I doubt it.

The reality is Mac threads are going to get buried and lost. Even if there are still actual Anet Mac staff looking for threads, which it seems there isn’t these days, they will have a harder time finding them.

We never got much in the way of support from Anet here anyway aside from when there were Mac specific gem store bugs, so I guess in the big picture it is no big deal. It just means it will be harder for fellow Mac users to locate Mac related threads in an effort to help each other out.

It moves faster than a mac only forum sure but it has always been near impossible to find older threads because the forums lacks a search function (that works)

Lot’s of issues have been the same or similar ones for quite a while, I guess nothing can be done to prevent new threads about old topics to pop up again, unless all mac users plan on updating their old thread titles, which doesn’t make too much sense without a search function.

Having a break from the Story part of LS2 for a while isn’t all too bad, if there is a possibility of adding to the “world” aspect of LS2 while on a break, please do so.
Have a vine or two pop up in either the Silverwastes or Dry Top (to remind players of the dragon’s reach). Make more cosmetic changes to push mordy’s agenda forward without the need to add to the story with words.
One goal was to let players experience part of the story by playing on the maps, which has been working quite well and it’s feeling more and more like a truly living world with a natural pacing.

The second half of LS2 started with a bang, partially to reassure players that big things are coming. At least that’s how it felt for me. In general, subsequent episodes shouldn’t feature less than half the (story) content we got in the beginning though.
TV series don’t suddenly air 2 × 10 minute episodes instead of the usual 30 minutes after all.
Not the end of the world but it doesn’t feel that great either.

Also, letting the last episodes before breaks be shorter than the start could create a vacuum which let’s players consume the next, bigger update a bit faster than they should/could.

Or increase rewards slightly for playing through the older episodes again during season breaks perhaps?

The quality has gotten more consistent overall, the quantity however is still off and the constant ups and downs don’t really help fueling any hype, if this is/was one goal.

nothing really stops you from reminding the support & forum specialists about mac issues, just bump (each others) threads and get put a [MAC Beta] tag in front of the thread title.

it is one of the least frequented forums perhaps so hardly a surprise

it’s bad nonetheless, maybe post in the “questions about forum specialists” thread?

or this means that they are getting the mac client out of the beta status

You could have also pointed to statements of devs working overtime and claims about assets being created that have not yet made it into the game. most points of interest are “we are working on stuff”, why this interview?
If there there are comments about 280 employees not doing anything it’s hyperbole at best and should be read as “why haven’t things that are being worked on not made it into the game yet?”
The author got a tour through the studio, he didn’t exactly sneak in to take a peek…
Current content shows that some “stuff” is being worked on and implemented much better but there are still some areas of the game that have seen little additions since launch.
Enthusiastic read nonetheless.
Really hope they’ll take care of traits soon, newer alts of mine use barely any…
Claims of people leaving is exagerated as there are no monthly cost, most of what I have read is a fear that not enough people would be supporting the game through the gemstore/weekly new skins/whatever…and this doesn’t seem the case.
And with that alienating policy in place, why even bother?
“non definite information” is merely speculation = business as usual

Interesting read and together with the current quality and quantity of the Living Story, which I can enjoy at my leisure, I’m looking forward to seeing more.
The silverwastes are huge with more than just one layer, be it the mechanics or the geography.

Adding and opening new areas while being played in creates a very natural feeling of growth for the story while offering the option to explore and discover new things.
It’s not just popping a mega boss here and there without warning and so far I haven’t perceived anything as a “because reasons” like I did during LS1.

I would love to see a “lore dump” summarizing LS1 via those beautiful art pieces similar to the “this is my story” start of GW2.
Make it a “And this was her (Scarlet) story” and place it in the priory library as one book per chapter. Have us watch a cut-scene instead of reading it (just like losing oneself in a great book) and I can wait for another year or two to replay the LS1 parts that I missed.

If speculations are true about replaying Caith’s past, I’m also confident that a re-release of LS1 will work just fine without making me feel you’re using the players as beta testers.

Overall, things that are being experimented on seem to work really nice. The option to do open world PvP, really dynamic events with actual pushing back of player efforts, a reward structure that fits different play styles, giving players “roles” such as being a defender, escorting supply or calling in air support, the necessity to work together to get chests and of course preventing the strange situation where one fails an event because it is more rewarding than having it succeed.

Any play style seems to work and so far I have yet to read a single chat message where somebody complains about player x participating too much/little.

Oh and I’ll never ask for henchmen again since I can now fight along side main characters I know and even starting to like. Best thing, you can still bring friends, where you guys could consider upping the difficulty and rewards with more players involved.

Feels great, thank you!

Any chance we could dig for chests in dry top as well? I never quite understood why chests are only visible during a sandstorm when you can’t see much.

Again, the entire team has done a great job so far. I’m sure it’s going to reflect in more gem sales apart from the purchases wales did.

Love Taimi’s new mentor

And thank you, thank you, thank you for making Kas and Jory finally stop the lovey dovey and take the whole thing more serious.

On a side note, perhaps somebody actually reads this, have you guys ever considered selling a head start to the new areas/story? To see how popular paying for content would be? To ease some of the every-week-10$-new-skin thing…

Two possible improvements:

  • create a forum with live copies of “red” threads, can be a read only forum.
Advantages are the better visibility of thread size, full title and prevention of more than one post in the dev tracker per thread.

At the moment, if there is a thread like the communication thread, the dev tracker will be filled rather quickly with dev responses but at the same time pushing other threads with responses further down, not helping their visibility.

  • Option 2 would be adjusting the dev tracker to show the forum where it was posted instead of “in dev tracker”

Profession Swapping In New Syst….?

in Dev Tracker <—— should read “structured pvp”

Now, my first thought when reading this was “wow finally profession swapping? New System??!! final….oooh…it’s pvp… :/ nevermind then”

Also, there are users who make fantastic summaries of the CDI threads, maybe offer something alike for any “hot topic”.
It might look like more work but preventing misinformation might as well save you equal amount or more time as well as getting the right information out there

@Zaklex:
If by “remap” you mean in the GW2 options – yes I did that. Remapped Shift to “show stuff” since Caps Lock toggles Shift. Also remapped Caps Lock to “show stuff”. Sadly, both did not work for me

If by “remap” you mean using something that virtually changes the keyboard layout – no, I did not try that yet.

Just to clarify, I meant remapping Caps Lock, not remapping “show stuff” to shift.

However, I play on the mac beta and it works just fine, started up parallels to try on a somewhat native windows and it doesn’t work there anymore, my bad :/

I found this though, perhaps it helps

Michael Walker.8150

tl;dr

The potential benefits of transparency outweigh the potential disadvantages as you can always create something but only destroy(critique) what already exists.

Gaile, could you ask the team if they’d be willing to share what did not work and why they think so?

Start with some very small feature that did not make it into the game or the earlier iterations of a feature that did make it and ask for opinions on the concept itself as well as the issues which came up and led to dropping/implementing said feature.

The entertainment business is not an uncertain business by default (that’s why you’ve gotten yourself somebody from Disney), Anet’s approach of trying to revolutionize anyfreakingthing makes it an uncertain business for you because you guys love to try new things where others in the industry – rightfully so – are less inclined to do leaps of faith again and again.
And this is exactly the reason why more transparency on how the drawing board looked like, before certain decisions were made, could improve the understanding and acceptance of Anets decisions.

You guys do great work in being the first but I also believe that you are not getting the return you’d like to have.
Looking at other, more eclectic games must be somewhat painful as they can just look at what you and other pioneers are doing right or wrong and then use this free research to then implement it almost flawlessly.

Gamers just want great games, Anet used to show that they are a innovative, creative and communicative studio but this perception has changed for many, including me. There were some decision made that feel like it was one person/train conductor pushing for it while ignoring any concerns “because players wouldn’t be able to grasp the big picture”.
Like expecting 2 million people to please change their gaming habits because temporary content is somehow better (wtf?).
“People won’t be on vacation, I’m sure”? (2 more months of me beating that dead horse is not really dead yet)

Players do understand that you can’t introduce feature X because it would crash the economy for instance. What players cannot understand is why you didn’t…if you don’t tell us why.

What’s left is a “we dropped the feature because reasons” as well as “hey here’s x, I know you never mentioned x and always asked for y but we thought y can’t work so here’s x”.

One example is the trait system. Players felt like it was lacking and they’d also love to be able to acquire new skills via trainers out there in Tyria because it was such a great experience in GW1, tested
What does Anet do? Well, since you can’t have anything like in GW1 you go not implementing new skills but locking old traits.
Players want to be able to distinguish between commander tags, you triple the price.
Or downright offending things like selling the SOB coin.

And all of this happens somewhere in the design limbo without any knowledge of the development processes and quality assurance.

The CDI’s are great to gather ideas and concepts, testing them superficially and getting feedback in general. But since you can’t tell us anything about what is in development, the only thing left for players is to pray that please, please somebody implements the ideas properly and not make another feature which is a vague derivation of “community ideas”.

Even though you guys play the game, it sometimes feels like you base your decisions on the internal knowledge of what could have been, will be or can be, instead of what is in the game.
Gamers, (my apologies for all the assumptions of “player/gamers/people do”) live and play in the here and now, many of us don’t give to much a quaggan for what happens beyond the game, on your website or in the novels.
I don’t know a single game where I had to visit a website to get “in game” information or read novels to fill in the void the stories have created.

On to more important topics, how many showers are there? I found 5 so far

Also, that new effect/condition…. it’s a bit too nauseating for my taste, still fun though…

And thx for the planks there, seeing the silverwastes from below also gave me a lot of hope for the future of GW2, please don’t fix the break outs

uhm, did you change the mac beta build with the lost chest hotfix?

I gained 10 fps and I’m sitting at comfortable 40 now with some things turned down in a less frequented map!
just did some defending in the silverwastes with everything on high (character models as well) and reflections set all again. I was getting around 20-30fps which is insane.
I’m also playing on 1440x now instead of 1280x

so, I don’t know what happened but everythings works fine, including the opening of the map.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Michael Walker.8150

Michael Walker.8150

what if you introduce an event based on a combination of n different more likely events in sequence which boosts the chance to get x?

would this benefit player who spend more time or worsen their situation?

the sequence itself is randomized and the drops in sequence could look like: shield (x % chance) → bag of goods (x% chance to drop)→ x-y amount of gold (gold find ) → rare lvl 61 etched shaman spoon → 3 geodes =>
results in an event happening that doubles the drop chance for a precursor for the next drop(s)

targeted farming would be impossible as well, as the sequence is generated randomly from a table. if you then add more “veteran specific” drops like geodes to the prerequisites (while leaving a base of very common items) you could fine tune this according to what part of the game you guys think could be more rewarding when it comes to those rare drops.

the biggest issue is the necessary, extremely low drop rate of some items which require millions of hours of playtime. collectively this works but for an individual player it is impossible to get a sample size large enough for the rng to most likely appear fair.

a player who spends more time in game will most likely trigger more more likely events and using those more likely events as a factor is better than “so sorry here’s a token” I think.

This would require the game to check every drop and compare it to the changing “magic sequence” but I can’t even guess how complicated this would be in execution or how taxing for the servers.

Would a shorter sequence be way less taxing?

Any progress on letting us replay Season 1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Michael Walker.8150

Although from a narrative perspective, do we want to cut off access to a part of the story? Maybe do both solo instance and group raid, but tweaks were needed.
I know I’d hate it if important story and narrative elements were cut off to me because I couldn’t find X-number of component people to do it with me…

it’s difficult, either create solo-able instances or have people group up to experience the story, which is already happening in dungeons but unless most of the story is summarized by a narrator or available as a cutscene, there will always be the problem of less desirable content where you have a hard time finding people.
We are talking permanent content now though, so this shouldn’t be as much of a problem I think.

Also, as I see it, guilds are mostly interested in challenging content for more than 5 people with great rewards that help to build the guilds’ community. they make their own stories basically.

Since the content has to be refitted to the new standard anyway, the devs could isolate instances where important parts of the story have been given to the player during or by large scale combat and present them in an instanced version.

Scarlet’s invasions didn’t bring that much story for instance.

as many have pointed out, having too many copies of a map causes too much traffic, my suggestion would be to have re-runs of the large scale events during different times.

have the “real” open world events on rotation, attack on LA one day and Karka on another.
also helps to check potential farms or add precursors to the market if need be.

Otherwise there are demanding events running on entire maps with 10 participating players while 2’000’000 are fixing sign posts.

tl;dr
small LS1 content gets converted to the journal style and the open world events could be raids. have the biggest events on rotation to help save traffic.

Is it even possible, given the changes that came about in the world?

as (instanced) raid content perhaps? as some people asked for similar content when it comes to large group coordination.

The only way it could logically work is to have instanced raid conent. The open world nature of the events really would make it near impossible to play. Some of those events took nearly a full map of people to do. Plus having all these past events going on on a continual basis just wouldn’t make sense. So while LA is being attacked, we are also still learning about Scarlett, and the tower of nightmares is in full swing, and Scarlett is also dead? The continuity of it all just makes my head hurt trying to think about it.

But the CDIs talking about raids and such could be a huge plateform for being able to reopen these events. Granted some of the mechanics would need to be tweaked in order for a smaller group to be able to do it.

Not being able to only having one map is the biggest problem I could see, constantly having to maintain two different states of the same map might use too many resources but this is only speculation on my part.

In an instance however, the devs could easily block of parts of the map while still providing this grand experience. the vision the pale tree gave us comes to mind, the map is huge.

not having enough people could also be a problem for the invasions, on the other hand it would be a chance to unite different guilds or give the largest guilds to attempt the ridiculous.

basically pugs for guilds.

and yes, gotta update my post in the raid thread

Is it even possible, given the changes that came about in the world?

as (instanced) raid content perhaps? as some people asked for similar content when it comes to large group coordination.

1. Large, coherent content such as story driven campaigns split into individual operations/missions.
I think 2-3h+ is an unhealthy raid duration and could be circumvented with saved progress like in the living world journal.

Still 5h but instead of having to sit through the whole thing you could do 5×1h every day or 2×2h +1h
You could also save the most juicy parts for the weekend and difficulty doesn’t have to be created by exhausting players.

2. different roles people can switch in an out, similar to the fragile state, which is kind of “most zerker”.
give some players “runner” roles and help speeding up courier jobs by adding the aspect crystals for faster movement.

I think “great at jumping” could be valued the same as “having the best build & equipment”. and providing players with jobs that might require slightly more defensive armor can improve the zerker meta issue.
More complex movement such as using the dash, jump and leap in combination could provide a different and skill based challenge.

and on to the more crazy, more specific ideas, mostly underwater related:

3. magic carpet combat
over a sea of quick sand

or

4. climbing onto or chasing down a boss with the help of aspects could be fun.
first one/two/three in the group to catch up/meet requirement-x will stop the boss for everybody to pound on.

Naval and air(ship) combat would be interesting as both offer large enough platforms for large groups to have specific tasks.

I think that the underwater areas are some of the most beautiful in gw2 and should be used more often. Without underwater combat perhaps, have us talk to npcs underwater instead or create “bubbles of air” on the floor to have ground combat.

Doesn’t have to be on the ground either, those air pockets could ascend/descend, think of it as negative floating rocks underwater providing free fall instead of something to stand on.
Or “follow the bubbles” to descend more rapidly, falling most of the time without having falling damage
(ascend maybe as well?)

or maybe you could improve underwater combat in general by using currents to channel players and enemies into a smaller space, restricting/forcing vertical or lateral movement.

Just don’t abandon it, maybe use it for traveling if the ground ever gets too dangerous to walk on.

Oh, and submarine-tanks

it was very enjoyable, love the new map and the story was great. I think there could be more in engine sequences like the one with belinda.
I kinda missed the aspect crystals so I’m secretly hoping for another crashed airship

was great to be back in the lair, looks fantastic, really love the giant reflections in the crystals.

looking forward to the next part!

What I would like to see is higher res screenshots, ignoring the current screen resolution and always rendering in 4k (for instance), or an option to take max quality screenshots without manually changing settings.

Or custom presets.

would be great for Arenanet as well if players post these kinds of screenshots instead of using medium or high settings for screenshots?

frame drops are gonna be severe but unless you take several screenshots in a row, it shouldn’t bother too much.

might be a bit discouraging for players with lowest spec pcs?

It doesnt depend on the bot but on the programmer.

Yes, not an AI

automating processes also takes some control from the human behind it, I’m just curious what the markets would be where a programmer struggles creating a bot for.

bots probably can’t make a (huge) loss but there gotta be environments where it just isn’t worth risking a ban.

you did mention something you did to get rid of one bot in that particular market, something along those lines.

does anybody know enough about botting to answer few of these questions?

  • How many buy/sell orders does a bot execute per hour compared to a human tp power player? Any educated guesses?
  • Do bots always raise for the same amount, say 2c? – are there more agile bots?
  • When hitting a bid ceiling due to an artificially low sale offer, do they resume trading immediately after the sale offer was taken?
  • Are there any markets where bots either don’t exist or cannot compete with humans?

Hey, I noticed that this issue stopped or got less over the past days/weeks.

turns out, it only happens to me when I play on a lower resolution than 1440 pixel (which is native for my non retina display).

You guys want to try this out and let me know if it works for you as well?

Also, alt tab in non-native resolution will change gamma, changing the resolution to native won’t change the gamma back immediately but alt tabbing out and then back into the game will fix the gamma.

you can use /sleep chat command to hide your character, works best on a slope or against a wall because this forces the camera to skip your character.

if you are underwater, simply face a vertical surface like the wall of a quaggan house, slopes or rocks.

For screenshots of your character, use the camera position slider to get the char out of the center

They have also changed the camera slightly in the most recent update

I’ll copy from the new narrative director thread

I wanted to ask for you guys opinions regarding lvl 80 Personal Story and the Living Story 1 – And how much you like phasing/teleporting.

  • Event chains in Orr as well as during the LS1 are great (mostly), min/max attitude of players doesn’t work in favor of a story
  • Orr’s gotta be cleansed at one point…
  • Story Journal is mostly instanced
  • Personal Story lvl 70 allows for standing at the airship and pressing F
  • Biggest problem with phasing imo is the detached feeling when being in another state of the map and then entering the instance, not the teleporting all over the world itself – we have waypoints after all
  • Orr at launch was exciting, now it’s efficient

My idea would go

  • use NPCs instead of players to push the events in an instanced version, only use the best events.
  • Flesh out “missing” parts of the personal story in dialog there
  • Make the storming of the promenade of the gods or other events you deem crucial a mini dungeon
  • Use laranthir to brief you what the pact’s plans are (event chains) in between the overarching story.
  • For PS use the airship or the fort as a hub and for LS1 use vigil keep (it’s a cool place) or better the players’ respective order
  • The intermediate story steps/event chains could be megaserver based maps with 15-25players max?

This way Anet could more easily manage changes in the world, eliminate problems with events having to be pushed in a maybe not so attractive map and Orr could be cleansed.
It also allows to “store” event chains and maybe even make them more interacting if no zerker stacking happens.

When you look at maps from Orr, it does remind me of a strategy map with 1 starting point and then 2-3 connecting maps which converge into an exit to the next map. With temples being the intermediate focus points.

Dude, chill, Gavian Whishaw just posted yesterday?

We are still looking into this – we are actively trying to recreate it in a bunch of different ways. I know it is annoying.

If he isn’t enough “in charge” for you, I don’t know.

GW2 hasn’t seen this kind of communication between devs and players for a while, let’s not ruin it.

Unlock utility skills and elites at level 2

Hi,

I just submitted 2 (sorry) bug reports explaining which items can be used to circumvent the skill locks. I have also written that now I can’t remove the 8 + 9 utility skills but I’d like to ask here if I can continue playing if I don’t use those skills. I already continued play like this I should mention.

I discovered this at lvl 18 so I’m not sure about the lvl 2 claim, I can’t see why it wouldn’t work though.

Thanks

the problem with what you are saying, is that what they have done has made people enjoy the process less, and want to use tools to skip as much of it as possible. That is a failure in design imo.
What makes everyone so certain that only vets well be bored with having to wait to 40 to unlock basics?

eotm basically :P

they are trying to get a new type of player to pick up the game since millions already have the box, perhaps the market of players who play for/since release is simply saturated.

but the leveling system itself is better up to lvl 20, at least what I experienced with a norn ranger. and it is way faster, maybe you can reach 40 now before you’d have reached 30.
just get some weak potions and food for the lowest levels, do some event while completing hearts and gathering and exploring. you will be opening those shiny, annoying diamond more often than you’d like.

It is unfortunate that they removed some aspects of the start zones but let’s face it, everybody had their own most efficient way to finish hearts.

unlocks are for a new experience, neither a new player nor an alt, what is left now is to bridge that 20-40 gap or at least 20-30.

basically, if you decided before patch, to not use the scroll you’d have a similar experience to lvl 20 than to lvl 30-40ish (?) now.

it feels only natural to me to upgrade this scroll with the changes.

Just let people put 2 lvl 20 scrolls in the forge, some stones or coins or a goat and out comes a lvl 40 scroll.

New players can’t get it and it solves the whole issue

(or 1 scroll and make it lvl 500 craft, whatever)

time spent IN THE GAME…the thing that supplies everything to the company and the players.

which you have done enough if you have that many birthday scrolls/slots.

new players don’t have them and people who log in after one year could be asked to spend 30 laurels to upgrade a scroll or whatever feels appropriate.

and it still leaves you the choice to start at either lvl1, lvl20 or with that scroll lvl 40.

since you level to 20 very quickly now, the old scroll feels a bit dated.

Is there anything good about GW2?

if the entire forum and their mums left the game that would still only amount to .2% of all players, if you’re asking for a number.

the first 40 levels just got a complete revamp basically and a lot of players think it’s dumbing down the game. If you like your experience so far, I wouldn’t concern myself too much with this.
If you don’t like the experience, let the devs know as you are their prime target at the moment (yes, you).
There is comparatively little “end-game” content, but you are still miles away.

I made the quaggan one brighter because the original is so dark :/

you can’t sleep underwater I think (forgot to even try) but if you face a wall and then turn around, you should be able to remove the ghosting.

They also changed the camera crops, check out the comparison below, much better

@lazuli
I actually enjoy most of the changes, so I didn’t spend as much time taking pov screenshots.

Nice shots from the grove, gotta point the camera down as well!

(also, you can combine the box of chocolate and sleep to realize some more stuff)

And yes, of course I jumped down, it’s an elevated position…you just have to?
Thx for the info with the lighthouse, does anybody know any site that tracks the gw2 weather? :P

Thank you for this thread!!! Let’s spread some HAPPINESS and show off why we love this beautiful game!

yeah, I really gotta buy the heavy aetherblade….

Hey,

My ranger is lvl 14 now after 4 hours of casual playtime, including stopping once in a while and taking screenshots as well as light bltp usage.

The leveling is more fun like this, the weapon unlocks happen so quickly it didn’t bother me not having all skills right from the start.
Even though I knew the skills already, it felt like new players will have an easier time to find out a rotation that works for them, as well as sticking to one weapon for a while and really getting to know it.

Locked was very little besides the skills, I was able to use scrolls to get more sp, tp, gather, vista, everything basically. Except of skill challenges but at least it lets you charge quartz, I reached the appropriate level quickly as well.

The camera changes are subtle but just right and much needed (for me).

I liked the map changes as well, for I do still remember seeing all those icons was daunting at first (maybe 5 minutes?) and the map is much cleaner now at first.

The arrow works great, if you need it I guess. After 2 years, everybody here knows a large part of the events and heart quests. Apparently it can lead players to certain death too but that’ll be fixed.

What I also liked was removing some of the “stronger” enemies & mechanics.
With this change you created the progression that was needed from lvl 15 onwards, discovering a higher level map now also means new mechanics and more challenges, even though they are still the same easy “challenges” for veterans.

The story missions’ (I finished zhaitan yesterday) rewards feel better, you get that neat little box with the pact skin and a lvl 18 exotic armor your choice! Well done.
The volunteer bonus is a great idea too.
I do see this feature pack as an improvement over the old version and I think you will in fact retain more new players like this.

Just…

Make sure those new players have some end game content, which means veterans, which means Gem sales, which means “that model gw2 is based on”, not box sales I believe. Even though I would prefer box sales which would include potential expansions.

Let’s be frank, this patch should have contained an equal amount for veterans but you had to make a choice and this couldn’t wait. Fair enough, I’m sure you guys are aware of problems with retaining veterans.

tl;dr

  • 4h for lvl 14/15 very very casually
  • leveling is fast & fun
  • skills unlock quickly
  • less cluttered map in the beginning
  • no real other gates, tp, gathering, vistas etc all work
  • feeling of progression when coming to a higher lvl map as mobs & mechanics change
  • New level up pop-up is nice, feels more rewarding, more often.
  • little arrow is probably great for new players, if it doesn’t point to certain death
  • Story rewards structure (not the rewards!) works better, love low lvl exotic gear
  • No pressure to start or follow the personal story while lvling parallel
  • overall feels more slick
  • probably gonna retain new players better
  • still little end game content for vets (veterans = gem sales?)
  • new players = box sales = not how GW2 tried to make money until now
  • make sure those newly retained players have end game
