interesting proposition, what do you think will be bigger, the reduction in tp only players/their time spent on the tp or an increase in “buy now” orders because players don’t do the same amount of math when it comes to smaller purchases. As in where players might consider placing a buy order for luxury goods, they are more tempted to use the buy now option when they have no karma left.
I could see commodities being bought more via buy now and this benefits flippers especially whales.
Since this market is by far the biggest an fastest, do you see this as a potential risk?
I like the general idea though, more so if the karma tax increases with daily turn around perhaps? yes, artificially capping.
(edited by Michael Walker.8150)
clearly they will be introducing mounts soon after the waypoints dont work anymore :/
I can see why mandatory jumping sections in the personal story/living story could alienate some players, or any activity that some players have a hard time dealing with.
The assisted jumping sections in LS2 are very straight forward though, literally, it helps a lot if you run first and then jump to get some momentum, maybe this is the problem. Also turn off your UI for more visibility and maybe for this part only turn down the graphic options so you can get 60fps at least, which I can’t get but it might help others?
Players have to jump in the game all the time, not as high and far but jumping nonetheless, perhaps people just need to get used to it more. Really, in this release I couldn’t find any even remotely hard jumps by design but you could do the story with a friend who is better at jumping first, if you just follow that person you should succeed…
I for one love the verticality, it’s something lots of traditional mmo and rpgs don’t have and it adds a lot to explorer type players.
There should be alternative paths though, with mobs to kill but as a “reward” you are allowed to walk.
Jumping at the moment still feels a bit gimmicky and making it a more optional, stealthy approach might be worth trying?
Of course make the jumping way quite a bit faster.

We have lots of conversations here about the many places we could take the story, and ultimately, it comes down to what we think would be the most fun. We can only make so much content, so we have to carefully choose which content we make.
If we split our attention to two storylines, then neither one gets our full attention.
We, like you, want the most bang for your buck!
Hi Angel,
Who is “we”? I got curious the last few days how the interaction between game designers, narrative designer (can you explain what this mean at Arenanet? or have you already somewhere? the search function on these forums is useless), writers and visual/audio artists work for the Living Story Season 2, what have you learned or changed from Living Story 1?
I got a rather incoherent feeling from the first seasons’ storyline and its implementation. the overall feeling of the second season, at least the start, seems way more polished now.
Michael
ps.
how about (very) short stories ? maybe to fill in the commander story gaps?
(edited by Michael Walker.8150)
What sort of stories would you like to see?
I would really love to see some stories filling in some gaps, that players have missed because they were busy taking down bigger things. Short stories basically. Can be about anything really but preferably about positive events or outcomes. Negative ones are harder because those stories would be complete in themselves and shouldn’t have follow up quests.
For implementation I’m thinking something along the lines of the vision we had before traveling to Orr, if you want to include the player character that is.
What I would prefer though are stories about other characters, playable characters, highlighting the struggles of the common folk.
This would give you the chance to write a more focused storyline also and might be a nice change of pace compared to writing a story for commander299.844
Orr still looks exactly the same because it will take forever to rebuild it. However, it would be nice to have little details change that show players that the place is slowly healing. There are many things a little unclear and not fully fleshed out when it comes to the first campaign and the first living story and this would be both a chance to get stories you have written, but didn’t make it, into the game and attract players to older maps without the giant effort of creating map wide achievements and mechanics. Also you could test new mechanics on a smaller scale with less variables
This would all by at your leisure, no set release dates.
what do you think about the idea of short stories in the game, outside of books and conversations?
of course the content has to be flawless and not take any but instead give time to the writing of LS content!! (No, seriously, it should be done in your “disposable time”)
//edit
as mentioned, if you want users to write stories for you, you gotta pay :P

way more coherent and engaging story & dialogue, good job! I’m starting to like DE2 more, the characters’ unique personalities work in the dialogue and the weirdness from LS1 is gone for now
you can just download the client, no need to pay twice
it’s just possible not necessarily probable, chances are anet learned enough to make better and more extensive content, it probably will be better than ls1 based on how mediocre it was.
gw2’s business model doesn’t require players who play for several hours every day to make their subscription fee worth the cost.
the permanent content also helps spreading the active players from “all within the first 3 days” to more of a trickle and with megaservers density will still be given at any time.
in theory.
the temporary content for a year basically meant that 1/10 of one year worth of work was availlable for a brief period of time at a time while you couldn’t access the other episodes which was insane from a series point of view, less content in less time, just makes no sense.
now, yes, the first release might not be enough to cover those months but as soon as the second release hits people can still play everything from the first which is already double the content we were used from LS1_availlable_to us, not necessarily relevant.
Maybe… if they did that over the past 2 years, I would be satisfied. Right now… even this announcement is pretty much ‘oh is that it?’ for me. This game needed content the past 2 years, we didn’t get it, now it’s too late.
yes to the first
nope to the second, when anet makes great content, people will play it. there is no subscription fee, most hard discs are large enough to just keep gw2 and you can do most of the lS content with rare gear.
people were let down and left, playing other games but they’ll come check it out since it is very convenient to do so. No gear, experience, money or “other” barriers in place at the moment, just one’s ego
I left but I will check out the new content, then probably leave again or, if the content lasts long enough, stay.

I think I misinterpreted the situation as everything is working fine for me – havent “stress tested” anything though – and the threads I read and browsed through seemed like the same old problems. But I checked the first to second page again and there have been new issues, they just looked like the “hick ups” after patches.
I don’t have the same expertise on mac than you, should have read more closely and shouldn’t have suggested you being unfair with Anet, sorry about this!
Dodging seems quite low…
I have never seen a single player who has never used dodge in a dungeon, that player might have used it the wrong way but I have never gotten once the impression that there are players at lvl 80 who genuinely don’t know that dodge exists.
Also, dont forget that the game can be played without dodging entirely, at least the story parts/casual parts
Combo fields are things that could be included in a tutorial, but again the game works without and even dungeons work without combo fields. It just slows the gameplay but it doesn’t stop it.
So I am back at the point of “why would anybody want to learn?”
I don’t think a casual player cares about making a dungeon run 2 minutes shorter if he/she only plays for an hour every day.
Furthermore combo fields are subject to change, as anything in an mmo and some players might not want to invest the time to be up to date.
Then there is the point that not every class has every combo field availlable and again, the casual player might not want to learn about “other” classes or combo fields.
So you would have to make a tutorial that teaches_everything_which is a lot in gw2 (less for some?) and therefore make the tutorial optional, which again might lead to nobody but already converted people might do.
GW2 is in a pretty good spot when it comes to what mechanics are explained/taught/forced down your throat.
It would be nice to have a place to look up all the mechanics though
That is teaching unless books dont teach. Also do I really need to tell him " Do this because you wont die as much. Thus not being angry. Thus not rage quitting?" Ofcourse that is under the assumption that he actually wants to win and isnt a mas-dere.
Sorta like me and pugging dungeons.
It’s mostly called reading first and foremost, learning requires a person who learned something from what he/she read about.
Books can or cannot teach, if it doesn’t fit the learning pattern of the reader, it probably wont teach much.
you assume that the things you say are being heard and understood and processed and concluded so that learning can take place, which isnt always the case as you might have seen with your stoner friend :P
This is a huge huge problem when designing tutorials in general, the “best” (for you, or me or xy) tutorial is worthless if…well if it’s worthless for another person. Finding this compromise between action and reaction between game/tutorial and player is hard, very hard.
Also, lets assume I learn_everything_about fire and…uhm lets say light and chaos fields. I still won’t know anything about the stacking field and you might think I haven’t learned anything.
A game complex as GW2 offers several “steps of knowledge” inbetween and that should be considered as well.
So one might make the tutorials to only cover the basics (let’s say dodge) but other players, like yourself, would not see that as “Knowing the game”.
However, you yourself don’t know about “exception xy” under “yx circumstances” and I could claim that you don’t know the game even though you know 99% of it.
yes….yes….you would look up whatever is missing :P :P
PS.
I should mention I’m only kittening around because I think the “lazy players” perspective is valuable to designing those things
(edited by Michael Walker.8150)
snip
Its strange to me. If I fail the fault ultimately lies on myself and my inadequacies So I tend to keep my mouth shut. If he fails its points above and such.
To teach someone who doesnt want to learn wont you need to force them?
Hehehe yes those players can be annoying I agree
yes, you will have forced somebody to learn if they didn’t want to and you did so.
my point is, you can’t force him, at least I dont know how. just telling him things isnt teaching either.
so you are left with telling him things and he doesn’t want to learn, no teaching has been done anywhere.
if you want to teach somebody something they are not interested in you need to make it interesting for them.
like telling him he can be even more stoned and have an even easier time pressing just one button if he follows your teachings.
I always hated learning about rocks in school, and even though i’ve been told many things about rocks I haven’t learned anything.
As soon as people find something interesting they will find channels that fit their style of learning and do so. it might be asking you or it might be watching a youtube channel.
There are many other reasons why somebody doesn’t learn, some just cant. usually though its because things arent interesting enough. this can be because the thing isn’t interesting, like rocks, it could also be that this person never though about what you could do with the knowledge about rocks etc.
(edited by Michael Walker.8150)
Conversely my friend he only plays when he is “blazed”.(supposedly) He is generally quite horrible at the game. Thankfully it is bf4 multi-player there-for he can call hacks or bf4 net-code “aka every bad players convenient excuse”. He can be very good but he doesnt want to. I tell him things. Give advice. Generally ignored. I get upset trying to educate a person that doesnt truly want to. He wants to hop ingame press W left click a few times and hopefully kill people.
That itself is fine, no? If he complains it can get annoying but just wanting to play a game how he wants is fine.
maybe he is an absolute expert on other games he deems more worthy of caring about?
I know some mechanics of GW2 but I couldn’t be bothered to learn everything inside out, the game doesn’t offer me enough if I do so, quite simple.
What I can do, is quickly ask a friend what I should bring for a dungeon and why.
I would agree with you though, in another game.
//edit
You can learn without that curiosity but it’s going to be slower. I left out intellectual on purpose because it sounds like it is an indication for intelligence, learning an arbitrary combat system behind a game…
Most people start learning things when they either are interested in it or are forced to do so, since games aren’t mandatory to begin with what is left is the interest in a game, if that isn’t present either you don’t_want_to learn.

To be fair foxx, their presence isn’t really required at the moment as there aren’t any new issues with the mac wrapper and they don’t seem to be allowed to talk about a real Mac client.
And a late hello to…“that person”…. i guess……“mac specialist in the background”…whatever title you may get
I don’t think people care as much about the trinity as one might think. Players want fun gameplay and variety. It just happens that the “holy trinity” adds another layer of complexity and offers players something else than just hitting monsters, as you can also “reverse hit” players.
Yes, most games can be broken down into fighting which can be broken down into making the HP bar go in one or the other direction which can be broken down into clicking and pressing buttons which can be broken down into using your eyes/brain and hands to coordinate an action which makes your character do so. The higher up on this ladder the player perceives him/herself, the better the game probably is.
Anet recognized that many trinity games_at that time_had a boring LFhealer aspect and rooted, tab targetting combat.
Sure, not moving and relying on one class only that only does one thing (dedicated healer) sounds like a bad idea. It’s just bad design however, not inherently an argument against the concept of trinity.
All the active defenses are nice and such but other games can have that AND have the complexity of an underlying trinity system, I think that’s the main point.
Anet needs to work twice as hard as other developers to make it right, because they don’t have the vast experience of every other rpg and thus also have the chance to create something vastly different/superior.
In the end_it really doesn’t matter_if there is a trinity as long as the gameplay is more fun than other games.
Anet want to make a game without the trinity mechanics, great, it’s something different and new, but it’s still 1.0 though and it doesn’t work as intended.
Uuuh yes, an HC box to tick and then tell softcore guys they don’t know “the real game”, there should be games like that!

A thumbs up from me as well, thank you!
On a side note, I haven’t been playing much but during the time I did, the black lion trading post has been working without any down time (for me). So good job on that one too.
Hi Smooth Penguin,
I’m sorry I didn’t have time to reply. I think the main issue here is you think enough people would complain and I don’t.
There isn’t enough evidence of people getting pushed towards that grindy mentality through bigger AP rewards, except of maybe the few who’d expect to reach 20k within a month, I think they already have more and different problems however.
The adjustment of the current AP reward could lead to negative consequences but I think this depends greatly on the extend it is being altered with the possibility of many people complaining or none (highly unlikely on the internet). It is already in place anyway, which is important to note. Sure would be less effort than a new system.
It just seems like a good approach that doesn’t change the trading post or takes from the rich.
Something I noticed today is that the first 5000AP are probably the most important and prone to grinding if that ever happened. I could actually see people grind this or find ways to make it profitable, the later 15k+ AP shouldn’t matter too much because they are so heavily time gated goals.
I will open a new thread with this idea as soon as I find the time to properly format a thread.
@laokoko.7403
they can probably afford the bandwidth now with the mega servers and having to host less servers effectively, might be a good time for this suggestion then

No, the lack of communication is nothing new and has been going on well before the China release. We get a few days worth of posts from Anet promising to communicate better, then they vanish until another gem store bug pops up. Then wash and repeat. I’ve been here over a year and have seen the same empty promises of better communication and support come and go over and over. It has nothing to do with China.
We don’t doubt that the communication has been horrible, I’m just saying that the forum in general has been “neglected” during the past few days/weeks after the content patch and that most likely has to do with the china release. The additional lack of visible activity that is.
I don’t think it’s a good thing to again and again try to appease customers and then vanish into thin air and it’s not like they can now just post a few things and everything is fine again. I will buy more gems as soon as zhaitan and the “beta” is fixed, nothing much more I can do but play other games.
I just didn’t think that requesting an answer from the devs now would even get read for the reasons mentioned.
GW2 as a whole seems very real life money driven anyway, maybe they could add dev responses to the gem store :P

the way the handle communication is just a little old-school but that would be fine if the result spoke for itself

communication has been worse during the early access launch in china and probably will continue until after official launch. It seems like Anet is currently way too understaffed to follow up and maybe should have comunicated so.
let’s just wait for after launch, i doubt there will be any content updates either until then so i suggest not playing? or playing something else.
since you are mac users you really might want to give loot 2.0 and reaper of souls a try, besides being addicting it runs quite well.
I dont expect it to bind me longer than gw2 though still.
have a good one
A poor person wouldn’t have 20k AP, or be remotely close to it.
As for incentive… just no. Advertising free 1k Gold if you hit 20k AP just makes players feel forced to race to the top. It’s because they’ll feel that it’s the only way to succeed. Like putting blinders on a race horse.
I dont’ even know what AP is, the other guy is talking about Anet point, or does it mean achievement points here.
Chances are people with 20k AP wont’ have that much monetary assets. Those people barely have anytime to farm money.
they are probably not poor, but most likely not rich too. So basically those people arn’t rich but spend way more time and you are complaining. But those TP flippers, who spend much less time and are way richer you are protecting them.
I mean Arenanet Points with AP. I’m not sure if you get achievment points or if you get Anet points through achievments (seriously, do you also get achievment points?). Sorry about that, should have clarified it somewhere.
Fact is however that we have no clue how rich a person with 20k AP is kitten far the Arenanet points don’t net you a lot of gold. And how you got to 20k AP varies from player to player, some might have gotten it by farming and getting the AP during that time.
A poor person wouldn’t have 20k AP, or be remotely close to it.

Yes you have said this before but you still haven’t told me why they would feel so or how it is like putting blinders on a race horse.
I never talked about advertising gold?
Earning gold is not the only way to succeed in guild wars 2, playing the game and having fun are more important in my opinion. And nobody forces you to get Arenanet points, that’s just your decision.
//edit
Yes Achievment points exist obviously, it’s what those points are, Arenanet Points is only a name. Stupid me, like learning that you can ascend under water by pressing space….after a year of playing
My bad.

(edited by Michael Walker.8150)
you close it between a poor person with ap and a rich person without who plays the tp instead. not in general but in relation to tp players with little ap it does. it does less so for people with less ap, maybe linear who knows.
the monetary rewards within the ap progression have been there for a while, like sigils that have been adjusted or pvp rewards with which you were able to make quite some money.
you can only grind that much for ap, lots of it comes from playing the living story and getting achievments ingame.
Im not sure where you get that psychological standpoint that a majority of players would then assume that’s the only way to get rich . I mean, it’s a strong incentive to get all the achievments and follow the story, sure, even grind parts if you want to get there “faster” – lets say 1 year instead of 2 . Still nowhere even close to regular content and how much you could earn there. People aren’t stupid after all and almost everybody who does grind content knows basic math.
I don’t think that the gold introduced (assuming 1000g for 20k anetpoints) to the economy would be enough in volume, compared to the 15% tax on trades, to change the economy in an unexpected/surprising way.
This is why Anet has an Economist who understands how economies works. When you use “Entitlement” as an excuse to give free stuff, it’s always bad for the economy as a whole. In fact, it’s bad design for the game as a whole. AP tiers have small Gold rewards, but more exclusive Account Bound ones as well. That way, when you meet different tiers of achievement, you can’t just sell it off to make money. That’s the proper way to give carrots to players in the AP race.
On a side note, most players who already hit 20k AP don’t need the extra money. So this idea would basically make the rich players richer for no reason at all.
I wanted to add a sentence saying that Anet would have a good grasp on a good ratio ap/g if they agreed with them being too little, but cancelled the edit because one can assume that.
If John Smith says that would be very bad for the economy I will believe him, I mainly asked for threads about this topic
I know there are tiers and rewards and rich players. There are some people who played a long time yet unable to get a legendary for instance or having other “3000g problems”. The rich players would be rich without the help of AP, the rich ones with AP wouldn’t complain I think (if they don’t need it they might not even care) and the ones that have AP but are “poor” would get richer for the reason of having played a lot. And playing a lot or just playing is the ultimate goal right?
It’s not about putting everybody up there with the richest, it’s to make that gap a little smaller without hurting rich people. doesn’t have to close the gap fully or should, otherwise people find ways to farm AP.
The exclusive rewards are very nice, being able to choose from several hundred less exclusive, maybe more appealing rewards, is also very nice.
The economy is way stronger than you seem to assume and yes, giving out free stuff is bad (if you can trade it). Having invested a lot of time playing the game isn’t really free.
It’s also not free for anybody with less than those AP and will stay locked until they reach it.
The total amount of gold used in trading exceeds those seemingly very high rewards anyway. That’s my point, it seems bigger/unfairer a reward than it is.
Hello comrades!
How often has the idea of significantly increasing the gold reward from Arenanet points to balance tp earnings been discussed and where could I find the corresponding threads? Increasing the rewards from “playing the game” has been discussed for sure.
I feel like most topics have been honestly, but I seem to be too clumsy to make the search function work?
Having 15-20k Anet points seems pretty legendary to me and most likely hasn’t been earned via the trading post (except of the “golden” achievment and few others probably).
Handing out 1000 gold for 4000h of playtime (for instance) still nets out at .25g/h playing the game, in addition to the 4000h of fun of course.
I have no idea if 15k Anet points equal 4000h of playtime.
The main issue with the trading post in my eyes seems to be that you simply can’t run dungeons, farm mats, get spvp and wvw rewards all at the same time. Which might be enough to get similar profit/hr.
You also are not able to just pause the game for 5 minutes while in the middle of the fight while the trading post can be played quite comfortably in window mode, tabbing to it when necessary. Unless you do highspeed trading if that exists.
All of this results in more gold in the tper’s pocket which enables him/her to do more things differently than other players.
You could have several sets of ascended armor for instance.
or you can get the same cosmetic rewards (cosmetic rewards are a foundation of gw2 right?) by exchanging gold to gems other players would have to spend_way_more time to get by playing the game. Yes, if you have disposable income and want to support the devs you can purchase gems. Or you could have disposable income for materials things while still getting gems. For 12.5$ worth of gems (1000) you need to make 100g ingame. So 1h of work (for 12.5$/h, “reasonable” in many parts of the world) for 100g. Seems fair to me if you like that job as much as playing the trading post.
In short: It’s an extremly powerful tool to make gold and regular PvE/PvP cannot even get close to that level of efficiency in time invested.
Having to find the player you are selling something to, or teleportin to that player to sell your goods might be closer to the PvE/PvP experience and also just as horrible as selling in a chat.
Fun can’t be reduced to gold but it helps having more options (cosmetic) to have fun in/with.
This topic about tp mechanics is a dead horse however as mentioned in a couple threads.
My opinion is: the Black Lion Trading Post is the best system for old and new players to sell and buy things, in any game I have known so far. Changing or limiting ways to sell items in whatever fashion (taxes, timegates) would impair every players enjoyment of the game ultimately. It is also playing the game or part of.
If you only do tp then yes, it is obviously playing the game.
“playing the game” means non-tp activities in this entire post, for a lack of a better word
As a tangible idea though I can so far only think of this.
One could bridge that gap or narrow it by rewarding “playing the game” more without taking away from the tp barons or hurting them in any way.
This means rewarding Anetpoints more.
I don’t think that the gold introduced (assuming 1000g for 20k anetpoints) to the economy would be enough in volume, compared to the 15% tax on trades, to change the economy in an unexpected/surprising way.
Another idea is a world boss kill button you can press to get 85% of what you would get by teleporting there and zerging it down, by mail, after 3-4h. Or put in 3 kill orders for 65% reward. It would count for dailies.
I’m neither using the TP a lot anymore (also because of mac) nor having money issues ingame btw, I just think it’s a great tool and I’m glad I dont have to shout “want to sell x” in a chat. I have almost 5000 Anet points
Have a good time doing stuff ingame or outside while waiting for new content.

About the non-stickies
The forum itself doesn’t need too much cleaning up as there simply aren’t enough posts. If you are interested in creating “official” threads or themed threads like Black Lion Trading Post Issues where more common issues are discussed, simply have somebody “red-flag” or create a thread with this title. I see a lot of threads about these issues and if somebody wants to merge already existing ones, feel free to do so.
1. Black Lion Trading Post Issues (including gem purchase)
2. Crashes
3. Not installing
4. Not starting
5. Framerate issues
6. Graphical problems (usually due to overheating)
6. Patch related
But I feel like this sort of moderation of the forums isn’t needed due to lack of volume. As long as the Stickies are being updated it should be fine and the forum will clean itself by pushing older duplicate threads off the front page.
From your post I take that you cannot discuss a native client, whatever the reasons may be. Would you be allowed to bring up this issue with the people responsible for deciding on public statements and ask them if an official position of Anet can be worded and made public? And in the case that Anet cannot make an official statement, say so?

Okay, these are things I can help with. I’ll admit, I’m a PC gal and worked in IT for 14 years before moving to the games industry. I know next to nothing about Mac tech, troubles, or issues. So, I could use your help.
Can you advise which stickies are out of date/need updates? Could you folks report threads which need merging for the future? For right now, I can take a quick glance at the threads, but if you folks can offer up any sort of assistance on pointing me in the right direction, I’ll take care of it.
I’ve got a list of some bugs which were fixed. It will just be the raw data, but you can see that. I’ve enjoyed working with the Mac team to work on the communication. I appreciate your patience with me as I get up to speed.
First of all, thank you very much for following up so soon!
Posting those patch notes or bug fixes certainly is a great idea and it doesn’t matter if not everybody understands them. if needed users who do understand it can explain certain points.
The sticky-threads situation, the main issue is that some of the threads were put there as a reaction to some patch and its problems. They are now out of date or obsolete so I suggest to merge the following threads.
Also, if you add things to already existing posts, make sure to mark the date of editing additional to the foot note
Mouse Wheel and Camera Zoom , Known Issues: Guild Wars 2 Mac Beta Client , Mac Beta Client Installer (one in a kind thread though) , Performance Issues: MacBook Pro with Retina Display
They are all about known issues and could be merged as Known Issues for Mac.
People who can’t install because of the installer blending (does it still exist?) will look there first as well as people having mouse issues or who have a macbook pro with a retina display. It would also include questions about bootcamp.
Keep your mac os x updated doesn’t need a sticky in my opinion but should be mentioned in Known Issues for Mac
technical problems – post your system specs and submitting a support ticket should simply be mentioned at the start of Known Issues for Mac and Submitting a Support Ticket for the Mac Beta Client as well as in Basic Mac Beta Client Troubleshooting
About This Sub-Forum could be removed?
Update Notes: Guild Wars 2 Mac Beta Client is waiting for that list and has been for very long sadface.

Hi Danicia,
updated
As you have noticed, there is concern in the mac community about arenanet’s policy to not say anything but what seems to be appeasement along the lines of “We will keep you updated (with statements of keeping you updated)”.
1. Don’t call it a beta if it isn’t. It’s a lie, as in not the truth. It’s a finished product somewhat poorly wrapped.
2. Tell us if you are working on a native client
3. Please remember that no matter how good your intentions might be, the only thing that players are able to see is what is in the game and your posts here. This leads to the impression that Arenanet doesn’t care at all for the mac community and has over and over again tried to push our complaints away in a “we will update you soon (on nothing)” manner.
4. again, _TELL_us if at least one person is working on a NATIVE client. And with working I mean at least one person at Arenanet is getting paid to work_full time_on a mac native adaptation.
5. Last but not least the performance related things…
Fix anything, really. Bad framerate, low textures supported, trading post not working most of the time, lots of crashes & all that beautiful jazz.
I have no idea how and to what extend it can be improved but you always have the option to change something in the mac “beta” client and then ask for our opinion on whether or not it brought an improvement.
5.1 What bothers me most is having to play with really low settings.
5.2 I don’t have a lot of crashes, virtually none actually so I can’t complain about this but as it seems other people go through lots of trouble to get rid of those crashes
5.3 The main thing is that we only get 1/2 of quality/fidelity of what the windows version has to offer…

This would be cool but I wouldn’t house it in Fractals.
You can also find a lot more CDI topics and info here Michael if you are interested:

Hi,
Super Tyria History Box
Thank you, I did take a look. I’m browsing through older threads at the moment, interesting read.
I wanted to say I appreciate you answering to all the users here and hope Anet benefits from the feedback.

//brought into the proper form
Hi,
Proposal Overview
Adding past Living World content to the fractals with both easy/educational/recap mode as well as a regular fractal difficulty.
Goal of Proposal
Adding content to fractals without having to build levels & assets while enabling players to replay the living world story.
Proposal Functionality
The story part could be led by a guide – guide-o-tron – much like the vision of the pale tree where you are guided and narrated through the mission.
Hard part is hard.
Associated Risks
Being fractals/raids they require a group of players and less popular “paths” might be unachievable for solo players without those story fractals being solo-instances.

Hi Gaile,
Could you merge this thread?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/mobile-google-authenticator-help/first#post470499
It isn’t working for me either, manually entering the code fails too as it only refreshes the page. I’m using an Iphone 4s. Restarting the app and the phone didn’t work.
Hope it can be fixed soon, I’d love to see this feature
I was wondering the same after learning about the event, didn’t want to open another thread. maybe we could try a trick or tell us more about the event with the devs
anyway, dont think they would use pumpkins for the same reasons as stated
More likely that they would try to balance out the mats that are currently overfarmed by bots? Which are some…
If anybody knows of upcomming recipes, hope they have a source
(edited by Michael Walker.8150)
As you level up, these personal stories need to teach people how to dodge and survive… if you die… You have to restart over… you can’t just respawn and start where you left off and finish the story. Sure it is frustrating, but people need to learn how to play thier character and the strength and weekness of their character.
I agree with you, the personal Story is quite easy, also the battle that was mentioned is easy when the right strategy is used.
I also think you forget that the Dungeons are part of the personal story even though they are not mandatory.
That’s where the people get their skills from.
By the end of the personal story everybody will know how to use dodge and better use their skills, doesnt mean you need that while doing events in Orr. And if you don’t have these skills you won’t make it far in Explorable and will have to get these skills to continue…
That was how the game was set up I guess, the personal story is to tell your personal story first and foremost.
It fails partially because so much potential goes unused on the story telling side, however the difficulty seems approriate to me.
Reading this entire thread i am coming to the conclusion that Botters are not significant of a problem as of yet. There is many mechanics in place that destroy the efficient aspects of botting code unless they are very smart. Also my entire time of playing i have yet to see that many botters in my server. Mind you some servers may have more but i am working on getting 2 lvl80 characters and have yet to run into 10 bots in Fort Aspenwood server (already have 1 lvl80). I also found that in crafting some items are worth more then others by a lot to the point they create a profit. Such as a pair of heavy armour pants sould for 14G when it cost me nothing to make (found all materials myself) even if i did buy the materials i still would make a profit of 12G per pants. There is still crafting items that are worth a ton of money. There is also items that i found that sold for 54G and are only lvl40 items and they sold in seconds after i posted it. Common items have lost their value just due to supply and demand. So far i have yet to see Botters effect the economy at all the ones that kitten me off are the stupid people who price items at vendor cost 1 while the fee is greater then it. There is many common items with this fault which just makes me vendor those items. That is not bots fault but all 100000 people i seen do it on those items. Supply and Demand. If you can fill the supply when there is a demand you make large profit. Another issue is Gold Sellers but they are being handled from what i seen.
I believe you are talking about dead items, which are priced so high and are so useless (i think there is a level 0 staff for some gold, somewhere, lemon was also 15g yesterday (accountbound)) that nobody even bothers to put it on the tp and the people who did, probably forgot that they were actually paying fees and are now hoping for a not-so intelligent person to actually buy that item. which will never happen.
just because there is a price on something on the TP doesn’t mean that somebody is willing to pay for it.
So if you substitute “is selling for x” with “is trying to sell for x” you will see that crafting makes only a very small profit and only on certain items.
of course, if you gather the mats, craft a lvl 80 heavy armor pants and sell it (for max 2.3-2.5g) you make all the profit
they are really rare drops, but if you have 50 potent blood you can also throw them in the mystic forge…
So, they are not that rare considering this, and if you have been farming for powerful blood, chances are that you have acquired quite a lot of potent blood, no?
Placed 4 items in the Forge and recieved nothing in Return

Haha, glad i decided not to go for the exotics
wasted 20 masterwork trinkets (all kinds), could be worse.
Funny though, about 20 minutes ago I’ve been transmuting exotic armor with forge stones and it worked perfectly…still I’m a little scared of using the exotics now…
Can anybody confirm it happened with armor/weapons as well?
well, thats exactly why I said do it with a stack of 250 in case the first ones dont give you enough.
also the prices have been dropping and what you paid for the potent blood was too much. since we are dealing with maybe 20s profit for a 50stack but that always depends on both prices, powerful and potent blood
today I watched the price for potent blood go up and down again, when you buy low and you transmute a stack of 250 you really have to be unlucky or selling too low.
I mean, I did quite a lot of these transformations and you need some time to get a hang of it, the mystic forge in general.
but honestly, i did this 3-4 days ago and margins have been getting smaller and smaller, happens with most products that people figure out how to make a profit off, makes sense.
the most important thing you will need for the forge is patience and spare money, I’d never tell you to try to make a living with gambling either but if the risk of losing money doesnt matter that much the potential profit is much more appealing…and its quite fun actually, had a good day today with transmuting exotics, but I lost 10g at one point because i had a series of bad luck. it just happens
there are other recipes that you can use to craft specific things without the chances of getting nothing.
but if you do anything with the forge, do ALL the math first. if you see that you cant make much anyway, why bother?
hope you are lucky tonight
Just do a Tyria run, set yourself some rules like, all the zones, set path, do all the events that you run into, do a certain amount of gathering and maybe revisit some nice vistas (or see them the first time if you dont have 100%), do 1 explorable dungeon run of every dungeon etc..
way more fun and money wise almost as rewarding, especially considering the price drops on t6 mats.
you wont be running into diminishing returns either probably and even though the game levels you down you will still be breezing through the lower level areas and thats quite a nice change
also experiment during this time with other builds as you really dont need to worry about dieing in areas below 70-80
this is gonna take you a while, believe me, split it for a week and then worry about something else (im not speaking to the thread starter btw)
oh and while you are at it, please try to get the jumping puzzles, they are the most beautiful locations in guild wars 2 by far (not all of them oviously)
I noticed the same and stopped using mats now, also as you have noticed the blood transmutation trade isnt worth much anymore since bots have already overrun the market combined with all the people who have been doing this
same is happening with scales now
there are certain recipes that give you certain results, like the mystic claymore/greatsword as a great/cheap example of getting a good exotic weapon through
you can make vastly more money with the magic forge than with farming 10h a day but the forge needs quite the money to get started (if thats your goal)
there are lots of “handy” recipes too, like the mystic salvaging kit
Also, check out the search funtion in the crafting forum here, simply search for “mystic forge” and read through the topics.
a little hint from my side, which is low cost, rather high margin.
buy 250 large scales via the custom offer option, set the price for 86copper (the price has been fluctuating from 80c to almost 90c this morning), buy philosopher stones from the girl next to the forge, buy crystalline dust and finally you need one armored scale
for the following recipe you will need
1 tier 6 material (the armored scale)
50 tier 5 material (the large scales)
5 philosopher stones
5 dust
what you will get is (well, i dont think its true) 5-15 armored scales (you are more likely to get 5-10 though, i have never ever gotten 13 and more from any of the t6 and I have done maybe 500 transmutations?
but anyway, here comes the math
250 large scales = 2g (@80c)
25 dust = 25s (more or less, its neglectable anyway)
philosopher stones are “for free”, that means they cost skill points
1 armored scale goes around 11s (and you probably have one already, but im gonna count it in anyway and you only need 1 to get started)
the investment is 2g 36s (around 2g 25)
I, that’s me, this very person, it can be different for you, am getting 7 armored scales on average per transmutation (or in general, 7 t6)
you do the transmutation 5 times, equals 35 armored scales, equals 3g85, minus 15% fees from the trading post equals_roughly_3g 25s or in other words 1g profit, repeat.
/eddit
and have fun and don’t go farming, I mean, do go farming, and sell me the t5 mats for cheap
Also a big Thank You from me,
The client runs very well already and I can’t wait to enjoy gw2 with the final client. Windows still runs gw2 better but I can already use the highest settings for trading
It does effect gathering as you will get more gems etc, the amount of ore stays the same
mystic forge isnt affected for sure, I think I transmuted around 5000 potent blood lately and there was no difference in quantity of powerful blood
I also found no evidence that quality is affected when combining items in the forge, only thing I noticed is, that 4xlvl80 items have a higher chance of a higher grade than 4xlvl71-79 items which will most likely be the same rare item but instead lvl 80
Not sure if you guys are aware, but there is a series of “Pact” weapons (viewable in the PvP armor locker) which are unobtainable in PvE thus far. There is also a “Pact Requisitioner” in the end instance at Fort Trinity who claims to give out weapons but so far does not.
1 + 1 = 2Chillax and wait for them to fix it.
Agree, just relax. So many things hint on the last mission simply not being finished.
Arenanet has been giving out great, usable items throughout the whole story (the rare greatsword for instance) and as the last mission was apparently rushed (I hope so) there was no time to implement the reward they wanted to give you.
I mean, some people might have noticed the “aah…..right…hmm…that was it? aight…” feeling upon 1-keying zhaitan to death, drinking whatever baverage one made.
I hope we can replay the mission when it’s finished and then chose an appropriate reward.
For more demanding/spectacular dragon fights go for any other the lieutenants for now.
As a Guardian I can say that there are plenty of healing options, none of which will enable you to keep somebody alive while a giant knocks his head with a rock, which does seem unbelievable.
the staff works quite well actually if you don’t try to stand still and spam heal. You have the ability to invulnerability/dodge quite often, many classes can use shields or more evasive skills to keep them alive as well as their healing skills and combined with a “healing traited” (don’t kill me?) guardian there should be plenty green numbers on the screen.
however, the guardian still has to keep up other roles, be it cc or damage.
The whole combat gameplay also focuses heavily on not having a dedicated healer (might have been mentioned before..) or at least no_stationary_healer. That’s just how the combat is imagined.
In moments where you zerg protect a certain guy that is trying to install a bomb, is one of the many examples where one wishes for a healer because it just doesn’t work in the current state. I don’t want to say the system works well in all cases, many of the dungeons have zerging parts.
anyways.
So rather find ways to improve the current system to a point where it works as promised instead of taking a huge risk with reinventing a running game into xy generic MMO.
There are other gameplay issues but I think the need/wish of a dedicated healing class is a symptom, not the root of the problem.
So yeah…
keep sending them suggestions on how to improve the system and it should all work out well in a little while.
Honestly, I don’t expect a polished game before 2 months, which is really sad, I kind of hoped for more from the gw developers but on the other hand it’s already a pretty good rpg. and which is getting updates over time. for the same prize of a regular rpg. well, there are mods for rpgs…
my point is, it’s alright, not perfect, sure getting better, not really a problem.
We each spent about 10 silver yesterday after one totally failed attempt and one successful one of running around without killing anybody. aegis, dodge, blinding, crippling, whatever you can use while running, do so and don’t even try to kill them.
possible and not hard at all considering you only have to survive a little and then die.
but really? just make it 5 minutes defending with mobs that one can kill? or 10 minutes, whatever.
Make the content longer/slower, not harder.
2 out of the group wanted to do the exploit but the 3 people, including me who have never done the path before wanted to experience this step of course.
And I have to say, I fully understand people who exploited that part, it’s just not something that makes much sense gameplay wise to zerg suicide.
there has never been a need to exploit however as the repair cost is below the reward!
Anyway, the exploit is gone and the reward is still greater than what you pay for repair if you do it right. Doesn’t mean the event is any less grindy. I enjoyed the dungeon as a whole though and I’m gonna try the other paths soon. Really glad that the tokens are now account bound as nothing really fits my asura
My whole point concerning all the dungeons which have this suicide “gameplay” mechanism in it is:
If you want to get rid of SPEED farming, make the events SLOWER, where one can and has to survive over a longer period of time by utilizing the defensive and offensive abilities every profession has to offer and combine them in a team.
So in this case people will fail the event because the team play (and gear maybe) wasn’t enough.
In the current situation it is more a matter of gear as this gives you that edge of being 2-3 shot within 3-4 seconds (as soon as you are out of dodge and blocking) instead of being 1 shot.
Once I was lucky and even got a second “retreat” out there.
Getting downed and dying is part of the game and is well executed if it is done in moderation and as a gameplay element of a “second chance” and not a resource (money).
So…if you want a legendary it has to be easily obtainable but still have the “oh my god, you have a legandary?!” effect?
please…
It’s a legendary for a reason and legends take a while to craft. Or in other words, the ridiculous amount of time and effort needed to get one is it’s raison d’ĂȘtre.
Or think a little ahead, what are you gonna do after you got a legendary after 1 month? complain?
The thing about the tiny weapons and armor is that OTHER people cant fully see all the details, you however can see all the details with ease.
and the cultural armor is in my opinion the best/most fitting especially if you play guardian, just preview the tier 2 which looks great and is still afordable
the weapons are rather small thats true but if you are looking for a great skin for the endgame, preview the tier 3 greatsword, its quite big.
so much about estethics.
I find jumping puzzles easier with the tiny character, dont know what other people prefer here.
After reading some other comments after mine I’m just glad that I didn’t lose more than 2g.
@Shadow Dragon
I’d rather if they made sure they fully understand the problem before attempting to fix it.
however acknowledging the many incidents that seemed to take place at the same time and hint at a wide spread problem not caused by the user, well that would be a nice and appropriate gesture, no?
I do believe that Anet can fix what is broken, I just wish there was a little more communication, an increase in customer support perhaps.
About the money…well I don’t think I will get it back and I’m certainly going to wait before using the TP for large amounts of money.
Ps. Situation hasn’t changed for me since logging in
