I tried the fixes and it remains around 65-70 degrees during gaming. I have reinstalled Nvidia drivers as the error I was getting during the freezes was ‘Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.’ but it did nothing to fix it. Going to try to have a look if there is anything else I can do, although I really don’t want to reinstall all my drivers.
I’ve had some lag and issues in the past, but over the last couple weeks I have been getting frequent black screen bug and freezes (a few seconds of black screen during playing or just the game freezing for a few moments) which slowly have been getting worse and since about a week ago I have had my laptop freeze completely on a number of occasions. I have tried changing the graphic settings to the lowest and even though there were fewer freezes at the start, the problem has gotten to the point where I cannot do anything game intensive.
Just now I tried some PvP and got about 10 of those black screens in a single match, as well as a comment that I was a lagger and ‘teleporting’ around. In the morning I also had a full-on crash when viewing the wardrobe using the suggested graphic settings. The laptop freezes are the worst since I have to manually shut off my computer (the ctrl + alt + delete screen does not respond either in that case, so I can’t just close GW2) and then reboot it twice in order to get rid of the first laggy reboot (the music and the mouse both lag).
I don’t know whether it is a hardware problem, but these problems only become apparent when I am playing Guild Wars 2 (although I haven’t really played many games besides GW2 in the last few weeks, a month ago I had issues with Witcher 1 but that game is known to be a bug-fest).
My laptop is the following:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.140303-2144)

I am not sure what to do, as my CPU temperatures are fine (around 70 degrees) and it shouldn’t be a power supply problem either. I think it might be some other hardware issue but in that case I would rather not touch anything as my experience with laptops is very limited. Is there anything I can do to fix or at least improve the current situation? Any help would be really appreciated, thanks

Get 2 turrets and put them next to her
they don’t get knocked around and she will go after them if you are far enough from her (so no knockback) also throw a supply crate on top of her and try to lock her down for a bit (any knocksbacks/pulls such as tool kit/ oil thingy shoes xP)
You can see how many people are waiting on the NPC who you’ll need to talk to in order to get into the arena. Most fights will not actually take two minutes. The arena will admit the next person whenever someone wins or loses as well. Also there’s a lot of other stuff going on in the map. You guys should check it out before you jump to too many conclusions.
Even 2 minutes of waiting time will make people kitten. Especially if it turns out to be difficult and require a lot of attempts. If I had to wait 2 minutes before retrying Candidate Trial I’d give up…
8% of testers have beaten the final tier over weeks of testing… I think it will be difficult.
Since you can also put debuffs on (their is an achievement for beating a third tier boss with 5 debuffs) it makes it even harder. Apparently no one was able to beat a t3 boss with 5 debuffs from their testing team >_<
While I agree that pistols offer nice damage, engineer class is really not so much about damage, but rather utility and mobility. I use a rifle on my engineer as my main weapon in WvW with a static discharge build. Instead of going full-dps I use it in a more tanky way where I can chase down enemies with skill 5 if necessary, knock them down with skill 4, or root them in place with skill 2. The damage on the rifle might not be the best, but a lot of grenade builds do run power, instead of conditions, as the primary stat and take rifle to compliment it. It is really up to the player to decide what they want, but rifle is in no way inferior to pistols. In fact, paired with the flamethrower skill 2, the rifle’s skill 3 and 5 (at melee range) are probably our best burst abilities at the moment and using skill 2 on the rifle can actually help you pull it off. The synergy within rifle as a weapon, in my eyes, is much more clear than in pistols or pistol/shield, again though it is up to preference for the players. However, I have to say that if you are running an engineer purely for damage and nothing else, whether it is conditions or power, you won’t be having much fun with the class :/

Well I do both, but the thing with elixir gun is that for one, the static discharge on the toolbelt skill is harder to pull off and has a longer CD, also the field is light, so I see how it could help with condition removal but it would not be optimal since I only have a single “sure” projectile finisher and my rifle’s 20% chance auto-attack. Also rifles can be really really good in wvw, granted the pistol/shield combo might be better, and grenades probably the most optimal, but you have a net and a knockback, as well as a leap, which can be great when chasing down enemies (in addition to rocket boots).
Edit: I assumed you meant switching out my goggles for elixir gun

Hey guys, so I recently finished my predator (after something close to 7 months) and decided to run a rifle build. I settled on a static discharge build with some survivability for PvE and WvW. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUlIq6dX7SyF17IxoHkuzbG0D9mX/Kqg+B-jAyAoLASEQCsIas1zioxqqB01YK3FVb1BAA-e Since I hardly have a problem with PvE (already did all the content I wanted, so just do it for fun), I would still like some tips (if any) for WvW aspect of the build. While I am rather powerful, I lack the mobility that comes with slick shoes + rocket boots combo (although I can get close with swiftness + rocket boots) and I also lack condition removal unless in a party, which usually means necromancers and mesmers can just melt me and when part of a zerg, if there are no condition removal guardians I die really fast in a fight unless I stay way behind the front lines. Does anyone have any tips? I was thinking of switching to melandru runes for the -25% condition duration (not a lot, but better than nothing). Are my skills not suited to the build, or is my armor off? Any tips would be lovely, thanks!
I think that they really do need to limit the number of achievement points given out by dailies/monthlies. It seems that some of you are also forgetting that most of those points came from early game when dailies gave something like 35 AP each, and then there were no WvW or PvP dailies, so those of you who are trying to “defend” the PvP and WvW players should realize that no matter what, PvE players still will hold the upper hand in achievement points. To level it out I would say place a barrier on dailies that takes about a year to fully reach…. it shows dedication and takes time, however I will not feel that my achievement for doing mad clock tower, or even personal space or something similar is worthless (some achievements take a lot of dedication and work and you do them because you want to gain that “edge” over other players not only with possible exclusive skins/items, but also with achievement points, given the nature of dailies this feeling is completely lost, so why even bother with those tough achievements?). Seriously if the daily achievements are allowed to give unlimited AP, all those hard to get achievements become useless and you can just remove anything not related to a title or a reward and maybe reduce the amount of achievements needed for the new rewards. The whole game is built around skins, titles and virtual rewards that you can show off/enjoy, but if you make a huge part of this meaningless (as it currently is) why even bother? Yes you have done all those amazing feats but Bob here killed 50 critters every day for the last year and he has more achievements than you, so beat it! Unlike most of PvE achievements, PvP and WvW have titles (albeit very difficult to get) that you can show off once you do reach them. What does PvE have outside of Dungeon Master and occasional seasonal titles that is exclusive to itself? Really I think that the current daily system trivializes the whole achievement system unless you actually ARE going only after titles/ possible rewards from a few seasonal events. I do agree that the dailies should give achievement points but it should stop once it reaches a certain point, otherwise you can’t really brag (which is what this game is about, I mean half of the gem shop is built on that premise) about things you go out of your way to do.
Thank you! It’s working now, I am in process of finishing the achievements.
If you want condition, then go for either a support/condition build (that would mean elixir gun/bombs infused with the healing trait), or a pistol/pistol build. Early on engineers can be viable with any spec, even using a full turret set-up is fine. The most common build right now uses grenade kit and 30 points in explosives tree to get the longest range in the game, it’s good for PvE and WvW (and even sPvP), however it takes some practice to use and is not for everyone. Conditions are another good path to take and like I previously said, pistols can be good for raw condition damage (in which case go into firearms tree but also take the trait in explosives tree that gives you burn on crits). Flamethrower can look very cool, but it is currently lacking a bit in damage, so many people choose not to run with it (you can still make a viable build out of it, just not as good as other builds). With the recent buff to gadgets I would definitely take rocket boots and use that with combo fields (some of your skills in their description have a little text describing what combo field/finisher they are). You should also take healing turret for your healing skill as it is great for team fights and generally as well (if you press 6 after using it and f1 after a bit of waiting you can get some extra heals out of it, also use rocket boots for more healing). Anyway really it is up to you to see what you want to play. One thing I will say however, is with the recent nerfs to Elixir R and previous nerf to Elixir S the elixirs have become more of dps-oriented skills, and since you will usually want a stun breaker (a skill that breaks you out of stun, immobilize, etc.) elixirs don’t really have anything to offer in that department except Elixir U which will end up hampering you in that kind of situation anyways. So right now while alchemy tree is very useful and people still use it, if you checked previous builds and saw how popular it was, it is not as popular anymore. Anyways, just choose what you want and I can come up with a build for you should you really wish for one and post it here
Every time there is a patch I look through patch notes expecting a fix, log in and try everything over again, and every time it’s futile because I still can’t interact with anything, nor redo any sequence… Come on Arenanet, please fix this! Just give people who still don’t have this achievement a way to interact with the suspects (I know some people are not there yet, but I feel like this would be the easiest fix to the problem). Or you could destroy all the investigation kits people have (so that those of us who dropped them can at least retry the cut scene)! Please do something :’(
Same here, I dropped the kit instead of destroying it and am currently stuck (tried 3 different characters, tried talking to all the suspects, tried going back to Kiel and DR, but so far nothing). Submitted a ticket yesterday but I doubt anything will change
Really don’t want to miss those 30 achievement points as I have been doing every special achievement so far
I will not specify my server, however I saw this thread while I was bored and even though I don’t really play WvW, I thought, why not check it out. The first page or so was great and I was thinking how awesome and friendly everyone is, and then it all escalated, turning into pure hatred or just people trolling. Now I am not a pro in regards to WvW as I just pop in, run around for a bit and usually die a lot, however if this thread is anything to go by, I feel like all three servers (although Kodash did appear more civil) are full of jerks. I am not even sure why anyone would want to play with some of you when you express such behavior… Of course I actually do know a few of you, and in-game you seem like a lot nicer people, however here you show all this hate… for what? This is a game, it’s meant to be fun and GW2 is already trying to be as uncompetitive as it can get and still hold onto it’s player-base! GW2 community is renowned for being “friendly” and while most of the official forums hardly reflect that, I would expect better from people who are in a WvW thread that hardly even talks about bugs/RNG/class balance and is not blaming Anet for something. Seriously guys, I expected that maybe the conversation would improve, but outside of occasional ignored post trying to appeal to the sensible side of the people posting here, it seems like everyone is trying to justify their “skill” in WvW, which when you get down to it does not matter. Most of you will move on from GW2 eventually, so it will be the people you meet here and in the future , that will really count, and if you are a jerk, I can guarantee you will miss out on a ton of opportunities to make those new friends. So stop trolling and hating and just play the game and make friends, whether it is with people on your server or the competitors!
I am just wondering (and it would be great if a dev could maybe drop a hint or two if they had the time) about housing and whether it will be implemented in Guild Wars 2 in the future. I am a huge fan of MMOs and especially GW2, however I have never had the chance to experience housing in this genre and I find that home instances are a great chance for GW2 to have that. I am hoping that sometime in the future Guild Wars 2 gets that feature. However after searching through the forums, reddit and google, I got very little information in regards to what Anet’s current view is and whether they have any plans to introduce housing and guild halls into the game (the last post with any info in regards to this topic is something like three months old). Thanks!
This sounds like a fun build and something very similar to the build I created during the time I planned on making a rifle engineer (still do, but need more time to craft predator). The only thing is that you are super squishy and are out-ranged by a number of classes/ mobs (which is not such a big problem unless you plan on running dungeons and can’t dodge or WvW). For stun breaker I really enjoy using elixir R (I know people don’t like it, but it’s great), as not only will it allow you to dodge 2 extra times (personally this is one of the best stun-breakers in the game for me), but it’s tool skill is invaluable as if you time it right, you can drop it right before being downed and get back up again before the enemies can finish you off (however this only works if you are not being damaged so usually 1vs1 or possibly 1vs2), which is great and usually surprises the enemies (then you can use rifle 4 followed by 2 to immobilize your enemy and get a few extra hits on him). That’s just my preference, but I really do feel like you need more defense since berserk gear and a lack of toughness/vitality in traits can really hurt your survivability and thus overall potential.
I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but it is not an issue but rather a question about my account. So yesterday I was banned for botting and after submitting a ticket, my account was unbanned after about 9-12hours or so, but reading that e-mail was the most heart-wracking experience I’ve had this past year (and I am just finished with my exams which will determine my future more or less XP). So I was just wondering what exactly can I do to prevent being flagged as a bot? Is IP changing software a huge risk, since it seems I was banned after installing Hotspot Shield (in order to change my IP to US so I can access certain downloads and localized information in English, rather than German and horrible horrible surveys which are ALL spam) and trying to log in twice or thrice without turning it off >_>. I removed it now and not going to use it ever again but just wondering, since I will be moving soon and don’t want my new IP address to lead to another ban. Thanks
The chances of getting precursors are horribly small, it’s just that all the people posting here are either those who got a bunch of precursors very fast, or those who spent a ton of gold and have nothing. Really, if you want to get your precursor from MF I would suggest just playing the game and buying a few rares occasionally and hopefully in a year or two you might get one
With the recent patch, it seems that a wave of engineers started threads about nerfs to Elixir-S. I have been playing an engineer since pre-launch, and while I do shed a manly tear for every patch that has engineer changes in it, I just move on. Writing about them on this forums (ye a bit hypocritical here) will not help anyone. Anet does not listen to the feedback provided by the engineer community, at least from what I’ve seen so far. Instead I believe everyone should just accept the changes and move on. There are plenty of skills that can act as a substitute for elixir-S. For instance elixir-R is my lovely stun breaker and not only does it break the stun and allow me 2 dodges (which I view more valuable then 3 seconds of immunity), with the right spec it offers other great bonuses that you won’t get with elixir-S (mines!!!). In addition, you have a free rezz which will often save your or your friend’s life (except if you got downed while zerging in WvW). Anyway, I know people feel better after expressing their opinion, and while I have nothing against that I feel like a lot of people are just wasting their time hoping for something to change, while they could be enjoying Tyria with new skills they haven’t tested before….
I am currently working towards the hunter and it is a serious pain. The hunter seems to suffer more manipulation than any other precursor, just in the last month it has gone from around 450g to up to 900g, often having no copies on TP at all. What really bugs me though is that I could have bought it early on, but decided the prices might drop a bit (it was about 450g at the time…) now that I lost my chance I am just trying to get it from MF and it is seriously depressing. So far nearly a thousand rares and over 150 exotics have been flushed down the mystic toilet and all I got so far were 3 charzzookas and a bunch of 3-5g skins :/
Edit: spelling, way too tired and depressed to spell correctly :<
Hey guys
I am a new member of the engineer forums I guess ^^ I have a level 80 asura engineer as my main who has been my sole focus since the pre-purchase days, I love him even for all his flaws and decided to even get the predator for him (which I am almost done with). I think of myself as a slightly above average player that can occasionally show actual skill in handling the engineer (but that’s too tiring
). Anyway I have been lurking through this forums for a while, but I usually only express myself on reddit… well until today. Anyway nice to meet you guys and hopefully we’ll get along ^^
So much anger on the forums, really guys just chillex. Both game modes are pvp-oriented and while I am not saying they are the same, there are many similarities between the two and by studying one, you’ll get a better understanding of the other.
