"Safe" stats to go for on my necro

Morgan.5170

There’s not really a one-kind-fits-all set. I’ll say Maruader or Valkyrie for power builds, and a versatile condi set might be sinister or vipers. WvW sets lean for survivability with vitality and toughness over extra dps. Extra toughness is more of bane than a boon in group PVE, unless you just don’t mind tanking all the mobs. You might be better off getting a tanky exotic set for WvW, till you have enough Laurels for ascended geared towards it. Fractals and Raids is about the only content where ascended is a meaningful requirement. If you have more classes you’d like to play and use that set on, then Berserker’s might be a better choice, as it is the standard across most power builds.

WvW and PVE are two very different game modes. Power and Condi are two very different play styles. It’s hard to make a single recommendation for these. Find a style and mode you like best, and save you’re laurels for that, exotic jewelry will suffice till you get it figured out.

The stuck bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Morgan.5170

I’ve experienced this on my characters in fractals and dungeons as well. My character simply cannot move or dodge even. I’m not stunned or immobilized, I’ve died a few times to this. I got stuck on nothing during a Death’s Charge, failing to close with my target. A champion with a lengthy tell smacked me across the room, because I just stood there. Electrified fractal walkway… the list goes on.

It seems to last for a second to a few seconds for me. None of this happened in areas that might have pathing issues.

What is this? Is this current server population? If it is, it would put GW2 at 750k to 1.5 million currently in game.

If it’s not, then what is it?

Unless you’re tanking a raid, there’s really no reason to run anything but glass. But if you must, you can mix in some valkyries or knight into your armor. For trinkets, I recommend ascended berserker all the way. They are easy enough to acquire with laurels or fractal relics, you’ll thank me in the long run.

Running glass isn’t a bad thing. You only have to die a few times before you learn what you should and shouldn’t do and you’ll be a better player for it.

I’m not sure what I’m running exactly, but this is close enough. The utilities change per situation. For cheap runes, anything with power is good enough. I’m not a meta type person, so my traits are quite sketchy at times.

For more survivability, a simple weapon swap to mace/focus will do.

Axe feels terrible to use

Morgan.5170

Focus 4, Axe 2 – problem solved. Cripple is a nice addition to most ranged weapons, but in the case of necromancer, I’m using axe to pull or simply tag mobs. Cripple is counter productive to my close combat comfort zone. Retaliation might be useful if I remembered to use it.

If I want to kite, scepter is more useful with its perma-cripple.

Necromancer Leveling: Recommended Minions?

in Necromancer

Morgan.5170

For a first character, I’d say try everything out. Pick a new weapon(s) to use every few levels. Use all the skills, all the traits, all the minions. There’s no need to rush on a first character. You’ll have a much greater understanding of its mechanics that way.

Make "Chill to the bone" blind immune!

in Necromancer

Posted by: Morgan.5170

Morgan.5170

All self-targeted aoes should be immune to blind. The stronger ones (with or without enemy components) still have a cast time which makes them vulnerable to interrupts. There’s your counter-play. Ranged aoe’s I can let slide.

Missing a cast centered on yourself makes little sense. Blinding a guardian doesn’t make his Retreat! go on cooldown with no swiftness to himself. There’s a double standard here if you can’t even receive the boons.

Make "Chill to the bone" blind immune!

in Necromancer

Morgan.5170

I think blinding on a self targeted aoe is unrealistic. Its like putting a blindfold on a suicide bomber and expecting to live while standing 3 feet away. Blind should target drop the same as stealth and blackout the screen, allowing for wild casts that could still hit or miss completely.

Two part question, Stacking and skipping

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Morgan.5170

Morgan.5170

I think skipping could be easily addressed. Add a scout mob type that can see through stealth and has a larger than normal agro radius. By default give elite and greater mobs the same ability. Strategically place the scouts so that you will be seen. Make the chase-down distance so high that skipping will result in mobs numbers stacking to the point you insta-wipe. Improve some enemies movement speed such that most of the time you will end up engaged in combat anyways.

Tightly stacking is only good for positioning purposes. Corner stacking and pulling is a bit kittened since mobs die so quick. Spider Queen is a good example. It’s a lot faster to stand in the middle and agro the whole room minus the Queen.

Buff radii are generally high enough stacking isn’t required to attain might. Other useful benefits have an appropriate radius for those that need the effects most; protection, regen, healing for melee.

I would also like to more mob variation. For every status effect there should be a mob with an immunity to it. Allow bosses to boon strip/steal/convert. I don’t think the high toughness mobs in fractals were necessarily a bad idea. Seeing more variation in other areas of the game would be a good way to promote build diversity.

If ghosts had been immune to crit, the meta might have been very different.

This is what I’ve been running, not the best by any means, but I haven’t had survival issues. I stand just close enough to AA with shroud 1. I’ve been the last man standing many times. The main way to survive is to just stay alert to your surroundings.

Run the curse line if your condi, the condi duration should help a lot with your dps.

Necro's place in raids hope

in Necromancer

Morgan.5170

Necros have a lot of non-damaging conditions that affect the entire group (up to map cap) in a positive manner. Sharing might or other boons while everyone is running around nilly-willy might be tough and they have a 5 man max affect. Conditions, however, can indirectly affect the entire raid group to boost outgoing damage or reduce incoming damage in a consistent manner. Claiming lack of group support because the icons are red instead of gold is just stupid.

So you’re too lazy to put in the amount of effort the rest of us casuals had to attain even100 points, much less 200. I don’t think it’s ArenaNet’s fault you skipped a lot of core content and now can’t unlock your specialization immediately. Welcome to the Guild Wars 2 of three years ago, where you still had to work to attain all your skills and traits after hitting lv80.

Unplayable Solo

Morgan.5170

Here’s some advice:
Learn to play your class. By this I mean, if what you’re doing isn’t currently working, try something different. Adopt a play style with abilities that better suit the map your on.

A speed signet and a dodge roll goes a long way to boost your survivability. A stun break might help too, but I never use ’em. Getting stun-locked by beetles can certainly mean death, but you can dodge roll through them.

Know your limits. Learn the mobs and stay away from the ones that can wreck you. Play smarter, not harder. Gliding can let you skip quite a few mobs.

You want ten hero points for the price of one? That’s laughable. If your map is sparsely populated join a new one and find a group or go back to the main maps for free and easy points.

Isn't it obvious? Karma is being removed.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morgan.5170

Facts:
- karma boosts removed from gemstore
- all the maps will get updated reward system
- karma as currency is a fail, nobody is buying leveling gear with them because they are scattered throughout many NPCs on different maps.
- Old karma deposits (RIP jugs of karma with 95% karma boost) were used almost exclusively just to buy obsidian shards, temple boxes, and exotic armors for mystic forge. Now, when karma is harder to get, in my opinion, majority of people is saving it for some time later

My conclusion – karma won’t be possible to gain after HoT is released (or relevant reward update)

I buy leveling gear with karma…. and Tequatl gives ~15k a day.

True hardcores can PUG and win. Wanna-be hardcores need pre-engineered groups that skip most content to win without much challenge. If you can’t PUG and win with low levels then you’re not that good.

Doesn’t look like anyone with a negative comment actually read the FAQ. I’ve been playing the game for 3 years now and I don’t feel that Anet owes me anything, but thanks for the wearable cathedral. The content up till now was more than worth its price.
When the new expansion comes, the old zones might empty a little. I see nothing wrong with letter free players in to help the community grow or maintain its size. Free accounts are kitten in chat and trade, but not core content and that is rare for most f2p games. All this is fine with me.

How do I play an effective guardian?

in Guardian

Posted by: Morgan.5170

Morgan.5170

I mostly solo guardian myself. Greatsword is awesome for this. I also use Scepter/Sheild as a flexible alternative when kiting is the healthier strategy. I wear cleric armour as I prefer defense over dps.

I rarely have issues with multiple enemies. Binding Blade is great for getting ranged attackers in striking distance and for the knockdown, but not all enemies can be knocked down. If mobs are all spread out this is a good skill to use first.

Leap of Faith to blind, Whirling Wrath, and Wrathful Strike is my general rotation.

Symbol of Wrath when traited can hit more mobs and heal allies and combo’s for removing conditions.

Purging Flames is great to use before Leap of Faith, Whirling Wrath for some extra dps plus two combo’s. “Save Yourselves” is even better at taking down weak enemies so you can concentrate on the bigger ones, but the cooldown is a lot longer.

I usually only use dodge to backoff and heal. The more time spent whacking at the enemy the faster they die.

Note: Champions, Dungeons, WvW, and PvP require different strategies than just wading in.
