The characters also show up in the API, so you can use GW2 Efficiency or similar sites to check to see if your demo characters have been purged (or not).

The two characters’ names from the second demo weekend are still showing as being in use/reserved, and they’re also both showing up in my “characters” panel in gw2efficiency, so it appears the game still thinks they’re active. But obviously they’re not showing on the character select screen to select and delete. Will they eventually go away? Or should I be submitting a ticket to have the “removed” from my account and free up the names again?

I just received the same error/notification, for the first time ever.

I logged on, hit Play in Unranked, and a minute later received the “You’ve been removed error”. If I try and Play again, I get the message that someone in my party has dishonor. Except I’m all by myself and not part of a party.

Is there any explanation about why this is happening?

^ They’re useful, but FAR too overpowering as they are now: there’s no finesse to the heavy-handed outlines.

I’m turning them off for now, but really wish there was a slider to adjust opacity or something instead.

Is anyone else seeing a bug with not getting the Wurm’s Element? I just successfully killed it, and the stone collection is active, but no Element was awarded nor item checked off the collection list. (Every other boss has dropped its related element, and I ran around trying to manually look the wurm as well, to no avail.)

(edit) Just did wurm again, still no element. None in the wiggle chest, and there was no physical chest on the ground anywhere. What am I not doing right here?

Transmutation preview resets during picks

(I noticed this a few weeks ago but can’t recall when it specifically started happening.)

If I go to H > Wardrobe and start reskinning my armor, the character model displays the new selections like normal, but then randomly will revert back to the original skins—but the row of vertical equipment icons still show the new selections’ icons. So it’s like the options are still being selected, but the preview just suddenly decides to stop showing the new preview(s).

It happens consistently (as in, every minute or so as I’m fiddling around with changes) but I’ve yet to be able to pin down exactly what’s triggering the reverison.

I’d say the best option (since it keeps getting repeated) is keeping the sounds for the user, if so desired, but having an audio slider for them and everyone else. That way both sides of the aisle are contented with the options of choice.

Thanks very much for the reply! After a few quick solo tests, I found that I was able to handle the various dredge in the tier-1 Underground pretty well… and about an hour later, a spoon dropped and the collection is complete.

Question. I need a fractal spoon to complete the Koutalophile collection, but the wiki page on it is woefully sparse.

After a bit of searching, it sounds like most people have gotten it from mob kills vs. a chest. But also that folks have trouble with it because not many fractal groups want to hang around killing every mob.

Is the spoon drop restricted to certain scales? If not, is there any reason I couldn’t just pop into one of the low-level fractals and kill regular mobs on my own, in the hopes that the spoon would eventually drop? Does DR factor into a stay within a fractal?

Nope. The problem is that “not annoying” is completely subjective, especially (in this case) for those who never chose to have the sounds in the first place.

Being subjected to another player’s repeated noises—whether it’s legendary weapons or talkative backpacks—with no way to mute them is incredibly irritating, no matter how “oh that’s so goofy!” it is.

If we’re truly talking about a fix and not just a band-aid, the only acceptable first step (to me) is introducing an option to mute other player’s weapon/backpack sounds. THEN we can talk about adjusting the sounds themselves, for those who made the choice to have them in the first place.

Just tested some more, and ele’s warhorn skills all seem inconsistent as well.

Besides the fact that none of them auto-activate outside of combat, in particular Earth 4 (Sand Squall), water 5 (Water Globe), and fire 4 (Heat Sync) are all non-damaging and non-AOE self/team-buffs that SHOULD auto-activate by the parameters we’re discussing here, right? But they don’t.

Thanks for the reply, Electro. Yep: I should’ve specified that this is when out of combat, traveling around, etc. At a glance your distinction between self-buffs and damaging moves makes sense, except (I think?) I have two examples that potentially mess that up.

Ranger axe 5 (Whirling Defense) can auto-activate even when not in combat; it’s technically a buff/boon—retaliation—but can also damage enemies via direct contact within its radius: that “attack” happens regardless of the retaliation, so I would say that’s not a purely self-buff since it can directly damage an enemy. And yet it auto-activates.

And the weirdest one is Ranger’s torch 5 (Bonfire), which is a purely damage-dealing move with no self-interest at all outside the fire field. Going by what you suggest, it shouldn’t auto-activate outside of combat, given that it’s a damaging move. But it does: outside of combat it will auto-activate infinitely once it’s off cooldown. Shouldn’t that not be the case?

See why I’m confused?

Can anyone help clarify what seem like inconsistencies regarding auto-attack offhand skills? Why do all skills have that little tooltip, but setting some to auto activates them while others don’t? Is there any rhyme or reason behind it?

Guardian torch 4 (Zealot’s Flame) activates when you have it set to auto-attack, but guardian shield 4 (Shield of Judgement) doesn’t. Neither necro warhorn skill activates when set to auto; Warrior warhorn 4 can auto-attack but 5 can’t.

I admit I’m not seeing a pattern, but just can’t figure out the rationale behind why some offhands can auto-activate but others can’t; and so on.

Can anyone offer insight?

Perhaps, but by the “artificial scarcity” logic Anet uses for almost all gem store items, one lost sale is far outweighed by the multitudes of people who DO buy it because of its limited-time availability.

I have never seen a listing in LFG for a cleared raid inviting people to come and take a look. And I doubt most of the people putting it forward as an option have either.

Mmm, not sure why you’d say that. Within 10 minutes of my post, I had three whispers in-game from people offering to ferry me into a completed instance. Then today I found one in LFG that worked, timing-wise, and I spent some time wandering around and appreciating stuff.

The rest of your reply is sort of tangential: I never said I was looking to “experience the raid in any real form”, just that I was curious about how going into a cleared one worked, and thus tried it.

But thanks anyway for reading too far into my question.

Without going into boring and/or pointless details, I’m one of those players that will likely never be able to participate in raid content. To that end, I’d really like to at least pop in and take a look around though, from which I hear you can do by joining an already-completed wing.

So my question is, how exactly does this work? Do people list a completed wing in LFG, and you just join up? Does the “owner” have to hang around while you explore, or can you get invited in, and then everyone else is able to leave while you poke around? (ie Does the instance close if the rest of the party is no longer there, etc.)

(I’ll preface this by saying I’m not a heavy WvWer, so I have limited experience to draw on. Apologies if this is a stupid question.)

I was in my Borderland today, capped a monument on the way out of home base, and was on my way to another objective. Roughly 30 seconds after capping that first objective, a 1:30 timer countdown popped up, after which my percentage participation dissipated within seconds. Is this incredibly strict fall-off a new thing?

I could’ve sworn that grace period for “inactivity” (which, in my case, was just traveling to the next objective) was much longer; I distinctly remember playing around in WvW after the tracks were first added and someone commented that you had maybe eight or nine minutes to do another WvW activity/contribution before the countdown started and your participation degrades.

But a : 30 warning and 1:30 timer seem excessive, no? As it stands, there’s no way I can get to another objective before my participation disappears.

(EDIT) The wiki confirms my thoughts, that the “inactivity” window is supposed to be longer: 10 minutes, not thirty seconds or a minute and a half. What’s going on here? Why is my participation so quick to deplete?

Thanks Tiscan, but that didn’t have any effect: I made sure all my equipment was off and tried again, to no effect. I literally had to talk to the NPC and watch the cutscene a dozen times before it finally teleported me into the heart area.

(In fact, there’s a conversation going on in mapchat right now with others having the same issues, and so far nothing anyone’s suggested is working for them apart from sheer dumb luck of it finally working.)

I’m attempting to wear a disguise and access the Brianthorn Den heart area in Caledon. But every time I talk to the the heart NPC Alarin, I choose “I’m ready” dialog option, the cinematic plays (or I skip it) as if I’m entering Briarthorn, but then I’m still my normal appearance outside the den. Ultimately, this means the heart and HP are completely blocked on this character.

I’ve done this heart on eight or nine alts over the years, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen this buggy behavior. Any ideas on what’s going on?

No, don’t swap it. I’m tired of all my female asura looking like guys and would appreciate the tangible variety this “female” variant provides.

I find it hilarious that so many people complained asura ladies get stuck with male armor, and now that we have it the other way around suddenly THAT’S not good either. Greener grass, people. You can’t have it both ways.

This would be ONE female option among dozens of currently “male” ones; it’s not like keeping this female-ified tips the scales more out of balance than they already are.

Why is it like that though? Because at some point (hopefully) both (all) guilds will get the max upgrade, thus forcing us to choose to try to get either shimmering or tenebrous crystals, which in turn just draws out the time it takes to unlock all the guild weapons/armors.

And that was my next thought, as well.

I have a question about how harvesting the synthesizers within guild halls works.

I rep four guilds; two own Lost Precipice (call them LP1 and LP2) and the other two own Gilded Hollow (GH1 and GH2).

If I go into GH1 first on any given day, I see all the available nodes and can harvest accordingly. But if I go into GH2 first, harvest, and then go to GH1, all the nodes in GH1 appear empty. The same doesn’t seem to apply to LP: I can apparently go into LP1 and LP2 each day and harvest both independently of one another: harvesting one does not “lock out” the other, like the GH halls do.

So what’s going on here? Why do three of my guilds apparently function independently, but the fourth seems to depend on what I’ve done in the others?

Posts that express upset about the coin — while I understand them — will be moot when SAB returns.

Mmm, that’s not entirely accurate… You’re making the assumption that ALL the people that have been complaining will still be playing the game if/when SAB returns. Let’s face it, at this point that’s not likely at all.

If someone spent money on the coin, fully expecting to be able to use it, and then quits playing before SAB comes back—for whatever reason—their anger in having wasted that money is absolutely NOT moot because they’ll still out the money spent on the item without ever getting to use it, since they’re no longer playing. “Eventually” does that crowd exactly zero ounce of good.

(Keep in mind this is coming from someone who neither purchased the coin nor really cares much about SAB. I’m just pointing out a shortcoming in your logic for the sake of discussion.)

Crab Toss very broken

For the past few times I’ve played Crab Toss over the last week or so, most of the skills seem to not be working correctly.

— The regular Swipe and Punch don’t do anything, even right next to a player holding the crab. The dash works fine.
— When I pick up one of the crate items, my skills rotate as if they’re changing, but then stay the normal ones and never flip to the item-specific skills. I can see I’m holding the item’s model in-game, the skills just don’t reflect that. Conch and Punch are the only ones that work properly.
— If I’m holding the crab, Crack and Toss don’t appear in my skill bar: I still have the regular non-crab skills.

While working an ele alt, it occurred to me that Ride the Lightning disables a player’s entire skillbar. I tested some other characters and (as far as I could tell), all the other movement-y/attack skills don’t function that way: a Warrior’s GS skills, Guardian’s leaps, Thief/DD’s jumps, Revenant’s hammer 3 etc. all function more or less the same in terms of attack and movement, but don’t disable the skillbar.

I’m not saying that’s good or bad. But what’s the reason for it? Is there something about RtL that I’m not seeing that necessitates such a behavior?

First time attempting the mission, we had to reset twice, and on the third one a rift spawned out in open air. I echo the “not going to try this again until it’s fixed,” this is WAY too frustrating.

@MelGT.8326 and DemKin.9063, for what it’s worth I was able to start the old 32-bit client, complete the chapter, then go back to 64-bit and the next mission was fine. If you still have the old client it may be worth a shot so you can at least continue progressing.

I’m at the story mission “A Light in the Darkness” on two different characters. While running the 64-bit client, the game crashes during the mission’s loading screen.

The mission appears to load just fine if I use the 32-bit client.

Is there any way to change which guilds are assigned to g1 through g5? Right now I have my main guild in g4 then two others in g1 and g3, with g2 and g5 empty. It’s driving me bonkers.

A couple things about axe 4 (Frigid Blitz) feel odd, and I’m wondering if it’s just me.

I can’t figure out why you teleport and end up landing past your target, facing towards the camera. Is there some mechanical/gameplay reason for overstepping your target? And then having to rotate the camera around to get behind my character again feels clunky.

What’s the rationale for those two behaviors? They just feel “off” to me, like it’s not quite firing correctly: sort of like the warrior’s greatsword dash that doesn’t always connect.

Availability of future LS updates?

An interesting question was just raised on Reddit. I know there’s been mention that Living Story S3+ will require HoT, but I’m curious about how not owning HoT will affect actually unlocking the content.

If you don’t have HoT yet when a S3 episode launches, but still login during the window of availability, will you “mostly unlock” the episode(s) but just not be able to play it/them until you buy HoT?

Or, will you be completely locked out of S3 until you buy HoT (after each episode’s availability window) and then still have to pay gems to unlock them after the fact?

No dice. I made a proper non-farming alt earlier in the week and got a key as part of my regular progression through the PS. Then tonight (post-reset) I tried again with a fresh alt made specifically for a keyrun and did NOT receive one at the end of the first PS chapters.

So based on this one sample, the “once a week” limitation is by when you last got a key, not by the overall week… Blah!

The issue I have with this at the moment is. How does the key reset work? Is it based on when you get one? Or the weekly reset?

I heard it was a weekly reset and not timed to your last one.

I’ve been trying to locate a source for that; do you have one? If that’s true, it makes the change suck slightly little less. At least we can easily keep track of it…

Can someone elaborate on when the “once a week” limitation actually rolls over?

For example, I just started a new engineer alt this week and as of late last night (after the server reset), completed that first chapter of the PS and received a key. So going by server rest I did that on today, Wednesday.

Does that mean for my next alt, I have to wait to complete the first PS on or later than next Wednesday, or is it literally a week and I need to wait until at least Thursday?

Clones (the ones that look like you) don’t do damage, phantasms (the purple ghosty ones) do. Clones are only meant to distract or confuse.

Just had the same happen in Wayfarer: first there’s severe lag, then reports of vistas disappearing, then literally all NPCs and enemies on the map disappear; then everyone starts dying.

I had this happen a few days ago in LA, but that’s the first time (personally) out in another map.

The sepia effect is because you’re doing an instance in the pre-Scarlet version of LA.

If you’re in the the Commodore’s Quarter area of LA, hover over the minimap and the popup text still shows you as being in the old Canal Ward.
