Sort of agree, but I did get my permanent bank contract from them when the free keys were more common. That alone made it worth opening, but the key was free.
I suspect there is a permanent trader in them somewhere too.

no way, that’s pretty cool. I didn’t even know they had permanent bank contracts in the game, I had to go look that up on the wiki. I never bought a key with gems, I just stack my unopened BL chests in my bank. Not sure why I do that, maybe just in case BL keys are easier to come by one day.

Look into gw2lfg.com and you will wait less often for a group. Great site.

I don’t agree that they took all the options from the classes. If you browse the class forums a lot, you’ll see people post many different builds for each class. I’ve seen a warrior shout/support build for crying out loud (pun intended). I played an engineer for a couple of months, doing nothing but trying all the different builds, and let me tell you, the variety in one class alone is sensational.

So I disagree that they have “taken all options from all classes”. From what I have experienced and read, all classes have all options. Now when you’re building a team for a high level fractal dungeon, yeah you gotta use your brain. This is a game after all. At some point we’re supposed to be challenged and come up with a nice group makeup. What gw2 has done is instead of insisting on a certain class being included, you may be forced to include players using certain builds or gear, whatever works to create a good team to beat the dungeon.

When I do a level 3 fractal with my guildies, I can bring whatever class I want and wear whatever gear I want. When my guildies are preparing to do a level 20’s or 30’s Fractal, they “gear up” looking for toughness vitality gear, and get a bit pickier on what pug members they invite to fill out the group.

Some of us enjoy thinking about how to beat the game, and will put together a party to do exactly that. Now it’s not about your class, it’s about how you play your class. Thanks anet.

I do hot-join spvp often, for a couple of hours at a time, and I probably only get swapped to the losing team during a match maybe once a night. Yeah it sucks that it happens at all, but it’s really not that frequent. Maybe the OP had a streak of bad luck with a server and players hopping on and off, and he kept being the one randomly chosen to balance with.

I was just looking Juggernaut up on the wiki, and it does say:
“Running down its spine is a thermometer shaped tube containing the Vial of Quicksilver used to craft it. The quicksilver shifts in response to the player’s swings "

which could explain why it looks so silver.

If you’re not into the Juggernaut, then maybe hold onto your gold and mats. Perhaps in a month you’ll want to play another class or something, and you could use your resources for a different legendary entirely. I wouldn’t wait for a legendary update though. Who knows when that is coming.

Confessions of a Magic Find Leecher

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mura.8673

This is very interesting. I am about to put my MF set together, and was already wondering when I should or should not wear it. I definitely intend to wear it as I work on world completion, and when I farm Cursed Shore.

What’s the MF etiquette when grouped for dungeons or Fractals? Can I wear some pieces, like a mixed set? Half normal gear, half MF? What about food. If I’m not supposed to wear MF gear for the dungeon, can I still eat a Peach Tart (26%MF) while doing the dungeon?

I know people’s opinions will differ, I’m just testing the waters with this question, before I mistakenly turn into a leecher.

legendary?

in Crafting

Posted by: Mura.8673

Mura.8673

I understand the OP’s point. I realize I’m going to have to spend a lot more time farming gold than I will getting dungeon tokens or karma. However, I’m approaching this legendary project from a different mindset. I really like playing GW2, and while I have acquiring the legendary as a long-term goal, I’m having a great time playing the game.

Granted, getting myself some magic find gear and going gold-farming once in a while is on my to-do list, I intend to mix in lots of wvw so that I’m still having a good time.

For someone like myself, sure, it would be nice if I needed LESS expensive crafting mats like Cores and stuff that costs gold, and perhaps MORE wvw badges. But that’s not the way it is. And I bet that solution would annoy anyone that doesn’t like pvp.

Or if the legendary required LESS gold and MORE dungeon token, that would make a pve dungeon guy happy, but annoy a pvp’er like myself.

Gold can be acquired multiple ways in this game, and that means I can do different things to accumulate that gold, so maybe it’s okay that the legendary is skewed toward having the gold.

All this hoopla for an item that doesn’t even give stats? It’s a toy. A cool toy, but still. The designers made the choice to put something cool and desirable in the game that is NOT intended that everyone just have one. In our society, that raises the cool factor even more.

If this part of the game frustrates you, do the other fun stuff. I mean really. If the lottery IRL pisses you off, are you the angry old man that keeps buying lottery tickets and grumbles every Saturday night when he lost?

I think it’s awesome that the game designers figured out how to add something fun and desirable to the game, without affecting combat balance. Great job, Anet!

When people are collecting things, it’s the more rare items that add value to a collection. You ever have someone show you their collection of something? As they’re proudly discussing the items, it’s the combat stories they tell you, of how they managed to locate and acquire the more difficult items, and their eyes shine as they retell the story.

I’ve taken this time to level a new class I wanted to try out. I have a level 80 engineer, so instead of farming, I’m leveling a ranger, and going for world completion on the ranger. Having this alternate goal means I’m still having fun, and by the time I’m ready to start farming with the ranger, hopefully this issue will have been addressed. Of course I still have a blast at night in wvw, so farming can be on the back burner for now.

I’ve found some success being less selfish with my supply crate. Instead of saving it for my oh-kitten button, I’ll also use it when my guildies are in a bad spot, and saving them saves me. That 2 second aoe stun is nice for anyone surrounded by enemies.

One of the cool things about engineers is we can create our own aoe combos all by ourselves. We can provide an aoe might or an aoe stealth quite easily with the bomb kit and we have access to multiple blast finishers.

Mura.8673

I’ve played nothing but engineer in live, leveled to 80 completely in WvW, and now still do wvw but spending most of my time in tpvp. I’m trying to get better at tpvp, I feel good at wvw, but tpvp I’m still struggling.. might help if I had a team.

Anyway, I’ve tried tons of different builds and playstyles, at least 20 different ones, if not more. in both wvw and spvp.

Pistol engineers, or pistol/shield, are very effective when built and geared for conditions. Rifle engineers, and the grenades, are very effective when built and geared for power/crit.

I can see your points about melee arguments and engineer being squishy. However, you can build a toughness/vitality, high hp engineer. I’m not saying you should do that for melee builds, you just have to be prepared to change your playstyle if you’re squishy. Many times I’ve run with a pistol/shield bomb kit melee type build in wvw, and it requires making good decisions. I don’t charge into melee, unless I’m following my warrior buddy sharing his target.

I’ve used mortar a couple of times. meh. It is lame that it’s range is shorter than our grenades. totally lame. However, at keep battles it’s pretty awesome. or you drop it down and let your guardian friend use it while you use rifle/grenades.

To truly appreciate Flamethrower, you can’t neglect the knockback and blind on it. Those are awesome abilities, and depending on your build and the fight, you could take it and do nothing but knockback and blinds and switch to rifle or another kit.

I haven’t settled into a single build yet, but I’m starting to narrow it down.

enlighten me? I am aware that the healing turret’s toolbelt skill is a water field, but I feel like you’re referring to something else. Especially as that toolbelt water field doesn’t last very long, so there’s no way I could blow up the other 3 turrets and get continual AOE heals off one toolbelt water field.

edit: nm, I found the answer here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Healing-Turret-creates-a-water-field

Healing Power and the Engineer-mini guide

in Engineer

Posted by: Mura.8673

Mura.8673

I’ve been experimenting with blast finishers a lot, I thought I’d list here the blast finishers Engineers have. This thread is about healing and has great info about healing with combo fields and types of finishers, and I read a lot of theorycrafting as well. I thought I’d include some battle tested experience.

Big Ole Bomb
supply crate
rocket boots
shield skill Magnetic Inversion
the Detonate skill from after you Throw Mine
the toolbelt skill from Thumper Turret
and detonating any turret (we have 6 types of turrets)

I’ve spent weeks intentionally having my own combo fields with my own blast finishers in wvw and spvp (I don’t pve). and I don’t mean in the Heart of the Mists either, I mean with big scary Norn warriors trying to pound your face in, or mesmers pissing you off at a node.

Here is my battle-tested experience:
Big Ole Bomb is tricky to time. With practice, you get better at it, but the lag from the time you drop it until it detonates is tough for a beginner. And in the heat of battle, you have to be used to that.

Supply Crate: I used this intentionally as a blast finisher to test the experience, again in battle, not just in the mists. yeah it’s nice if you’re thinking about that and you drop a smoke bomb right before dropping this guy, cause you get the aoe invisibility which drops you as a target, but to be honest, if you’re using supply crate you use when you need to NOW

rocket boots: Not my favourite blast finisher because now I’ve flown backyards what, 900 yards? And I tend to save that for when I’m immobolized. But it’s okay.

shield skill Magnetic Inversion: Again, I prefer to use this as a knockback that I want to use NOW. Not after I drop some combo fields. but it’s okay.

the Detonate skill from after you Throw Mine: I seriously hate this blast finisher the most. It doesn’t sound so bad on paper, but to have to click it to throw the mine, click again to place it on the ground, or throw it which there is a lag time there, then save it for a Detonate on your combo field? Pain in the behind. Meanwhile some guy is charging you. I found it easiest to set up at the beginning of a fight to get aoe might from the Fire bomb. Trying to use it for an aoe heal – misery.

the toolbelt skill from Thumper Turret: The easiest combo blast finisher we have. No lag time, it’s pbaoe, one button and bam, immediate blast finisher. I love it. Drawback: you have to have a Thumper Turret in your utility slot lolz

and detonating any turret (we have 6 types of turrets): This is pretty easy to do too, actually. Even in the pressure of a battle, half way through chances are your turret is about to eat it anyway, so drop a smoke bomb, detonate turret and bam, invisibility. Or do the Regenerating Mist (healing turret toolbelt skill) and detonate your turret, easy.

From the manifesto, “We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that. No one finds it fun. We want to change the way that people view combat.”

I agree that they have not met the goal of what the first sentence is saying.

While I agree that they haven’t met the goal, I’m totally with Swagman here. The grind isn’t required, and I think it’s fantastic that the grind is still there for players that do like the grind.

And what gets my gizzard about threads like this one, is how few people acknowledge that yes there ARE players that love grinding for unique and cool as hell items! So while anet didn’t meet that particular sentence of their manifesto, I’m really happy it turned out the way it did.

I’ve tested this too, and ever since live, all the way up until today, the Big Ol’ Bomb does not have a working blast finisher, even though the tool tip says it does.

The blast finishers we have access to are:
turret detonations
supply crate
rocket boots
magnetic inversion on the shield
