Taxiing from breach to breach a symptom

in Living World

Nefaria.7659

I’ve found this to be a problem as well. You’d have a small group of people holding 1 or 2 forts push the progress up to 80% then suddenly the map is overflowing with people.

This is good on a few breaches because there was enough players to take down all the bosses on several occasions.

However, it meant if you stayed on one map – it took a much longer time to get to a breach state since only 1 or 2 forts were doing 80% of the progress. (in addition to some forts being reclaimed and lost several times)

What I’d like to see is more incentive to stay on one map until breach. I don’t think altering the boss rewards would be the way to go – but providing assistance to players who like working toward a breach. Maybe allowing more stacks of Perseverance or adding damage bonuses to stacks of Perseverance so that dedicated map players can face invasion waves easier.

About the Hexed outfit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nefaria.7659

I actually prefer the male version, although they’re both a little too close to the Witch outfit, in my opinion.

Kinda a drag when male/female outfits are significantly different like this. They both have their fans, and they both have their fans who would like to have the other gender’s version available.

(Having said that, I think it’s awesome that there’s an outfit that can be earned in-game, and not through the gem store. I might not be a -huge- fan of these designs, since I already own/prefer to witch outfit, but it’s a sweet reward just the same.)

Really agree with this comment. When I first saw the outfits I thought the female version was too close to the witch set, while the male (despite also being a re-work of the witch set) looked much cooler and different imo.

It’s great it can be earned ingame, but it was disappointing that my female character is locked to a certain set – considering the style of each gender’s are significantly different.

Developer livestream: Ranger PvE guide

in Ranger

Posted by: Nefaria.7659

Nefaria.7659

Overall, found the beginner’s guide was not very accessible to the viewer base they might be aiming for. If you expect the viewer to know all the ins and outs of min/maxing before watching – what’s the point?

A big negative is that It watched like a school lecture; he only utilized the video to show off item and skill tool tips and then just narrated an unstructured dialogue about the profession.

I would have liked to see more depth of the different styles of play – since PvE encompasses Dungeons, Fractals, Open World, WvW, and Living Story. More focus on different weapon and build options (and why); and possibly – where to start with your builds (including trait distribution) and highlight some which players can play with; saying merely ‘condition’ or ‘damage’ isn’t necessarily beginner lingo.

This is also a “level 80 ranger guide” as well. Since, although some of the advice can be filtered down below 80, it focuses mostly on the armour and runes at level 80.

It does give some idea for what people should aim for, but suggesting that beginners pick up full offensive gear and then “not die” seems like a poor choice. I understand that might be optimal gear but its not practical to some of your audience.

Dailies, How do you play?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nefaria.7659

Nefaria.7659

Neither I guess?

Usually my partner and I log in with the idea of completing the dailies (especially when they contribute to a living story meta) however, we don’t necessarily go out directly seeking these. What we do with our playtime is partly decided on what choice of activity (“Thing”) will net us daily achievements in a timely fashion without having to restrict ourselves to particular play.

For example, with the Mad Kings Realm active, if the achievements are generic enough to be done in any zone (kill X mobs, do X events, kill X veterans) we will go there to knock them out in <30min while running around smashing everything.

If the achievements are more zone restrictive (or no living story meta) we jump on alts we are actively leveling and explore a zone which has the easiest/most achievements possible.

Body Physique Limitations

in Sylvari

Posted by: Nefaria.7659

Nefaria.7659

So I’ve been creating a lot of sylvari characters lately, and I noticed that there are only 5 different physique shapes [male and female], compared to the human’s 10.

Don’t start looking at other options then. Humans have double the number of hair styles as well. All the non-human races have significantly less customization options, which makes me feel there is a distinct human bias.

However, I am glad I was able to make a female sylvari physique. with a breast size closer to a B-cup. It made me so happy.

Therefore, having more options for people who want larger characters would be great too. More diversity!

Clocktower Feedback: Misty Players

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Nefaria.7659

Nefaria.7659

One year later -2013- and the Clocktower is no longer a player race against other players. Instead, it’s you pitted against a bunch of floating misty balls. The game is set into the PvE-arena blueprint, so only sPvP gear is shown. It feels less enjoyable than last year because the competition pieces were removed while simultaneously taking out some of the PvE elements as well.

So, what’s other people’s feedback on this?
Do you like that it’s no reflective of sPvP instead of PvE?
Are you enjoying racing misty balls?
Do you feel that some of the atmosphere is lost?

It’s nice not seeing racism towards norn or charr and threads dedicated towards such this year. Players being harassed for their choice of character race was uncalled for last year, but it happened. It was addressed in a manner such that you can still actually see the players you are racing against.

Misty balls was an easier change then somehow getting rid of racists.

Filtering bads from pugs

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nefaria.7659

Nefaria.7659

I’ve found that there are actually a fair few decent players, more than enough to quickly fill out a pug, but the problem is that your group tends to fill up with bads more quickly than the goods can join.

How about a personal filter, like so:

1. Add “goods” to your ingame friends list.
2. Ask said “goods” + friends when putting together a dungeon party.
3. Put together party without fear of “bads”

So hows the lfg feature working out for ya ?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nefaria.7659

Nefaria.7659

Used the LFG feature to breeze through story modes of pretty much every dungeon. Found it decent for putting together 1-9 scale fractal groups.

Explorable dungeons are hit/miss; have been running TA Up path with decent outcomes. Not every run is perfect, but I’m getting way more dungeons completed now in comparison to ever.

Bloody Prince's armor

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Nefaria.7659

Nefaria.7659

That really does look like armour much more than a costume.

Question: last year we had the witch costume for female characters and the mad king one for males- does this mean we get a mystery costume for females?

I love my witch costume from last year and I still wear it on my first character

Both the Mad King Thorn costume and the Witch costume were available for both male and female characters.

So, considering there was two costumes last year there might be another – but not because of them being gender exclusive.

Either the character models would not load in or if they did they were semi-transparent. As well, the text would start overlaying each other and not stay in sync with the audio track.

My partner and I have been running through our personal stories together and we both had issues with this one.

I’ve attached some screenshot of what occurs during the Cinematics. Both of our computer systems do not have graphic issues with any other aspects of the game that we have encountered.

Skimpy clothing preference

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nefaria.7659

Nefaria.7659

I like my characters to be attractive. I like to put them in attractive clothing. I often feel that less is more…
Perhaps I am being premature; but several games, have had a very noisy groups of prudes. Being so vocal and outspoken they get attention, and as the level cap raised or new content was added, the female armor became more and more Concealing. I do not want that happening here!

I don’t want female humanoids to look like blocky robots, nuns, or bigfoot.
By all means let us continue to have large and interesting shaped cleavage windows, bare midriffs, and eye high skirts! Especially in new content!

Agree or disagree?

Disagree – the amount of skin a piece of clothing is revealing is not a direct measure of how attractive/appealing the set of armour is.

I’ve seen beautiful ballgowns and ugly bikinis.

Interesting clothing textures, accessories, and ability to dye particular sections of the armour is more important.

-You buy chests using gems, not real money (buying gems with real money is an optional game mechanic)

I believe in the situations you’re suggesting, the armour/items are either account bound or can be sold at the trading post. In the situation where the item is soulbound, I can see this being more of an issue. However, given you can sell anything you obtain through those methods, you can use the items to make gold.

Same Guild Tags- Let us Change tags

I can’t say I’ve run into this problem in game. The guild I’m with is just a group of friends so the tag isn’t common.

However, I know some guilds (at least at launch) had several sub-guilds since they reached player caps. I believe they sync’d up the guild tags the same in this situation.

Currently, I think guilds may be forced to change their tags if they’re deemed offensive. Though, the option for guilds to change the tags voluntarily should be an option in general.

-Holding shift then clicking on the minimap or map will cause a temporary red circle to appear on party member’s maps
-Holding shift then clicking and dragging on the minimap or map will cause a white line to appear to party members
-Holding alt and then clicking on the minimap or map will cause a ‘personal waypoint’ marker to appear on map. This will stay on the map until you click on it to remove. It acts similar to the story green star icon.

Is there any point in fighting champion mobs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nefaria.7659

Nefaria.7659

At the moment, unless its a DE champ, there is no reason to fight champion mobs unless you want a challenge. Personally i go from zone to zone looking for certain DE’s, like the fire ele in metrica, or the giant in diessa plateu, and i solo them. Why? Because its a nice challenge, the rewards arnt always great, but i find it fun.
Supposedly though this will be changing in the next few patches to make champ mobs drop better than average loot, perhaps even have special loot tables for certain champs, as anet specifically said they would like to bring back “boss hunting”.

I agree pretty much with what Blackout said. My friend and I go around fully exploring zones and taking on challenges. We occasionally kill champions which are not involved in dynamic events (sometimes they’re in the way of where we’re going) but never seem to get loot off them.

Sadly just a “hey look what we did!” adventure right now rather than getting special rewards for it.

So at the moment you’re saying an automated process is coming up with a large amount of false positives. To remedy this, you’re suggesting they do the whole process manually.

Does this mean you’d only want them to ban based on player reports? Since I think with that method you’d still end up with false positives.

The multi-guild system & why guilds are pointless.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Nefaria.7659

Nefaria.7659

As a casual player I like multi-guild. I haven’t found any guild with enough for me to be loyal to. So my suggestion to you if you want people to represent,

1) Add more value.
2) Find out why they aren’t representing.

I’m in two guilds right now. One for WvW/Pvp, and when I do those activities I represent. When my RL friends are online and we want to use guild chat. (because I’m in TS with the first guild) I represent them.

If I’m pugging and instance or something, I’ll represent whoever I’m chatting with, because it frankly doesn’t matter. It’s a PUG. If you want me to represent, run the content with me.

You may think people are telling you to kitten off because they are immature, but it might be you aren’t really adding enough value.

From my experience, this is the usage the multi-guild system was designed for. A player can have different guilds with different focuses and switch between them when participating in the events. It’s the same thing that happened in the last mmorg I played with multi-guild ability.

Usually people end up with a social guild, a pvp guild, and a dungeon/endgame event guild. They swap between them based on what they’re doing.

Forcing guild loyalty is a player driven aspect of the multi-guild system it wasn’t designed for. Guild members shouldn’t be treated as influence gatherers, if you want them to -only- represent you that’s your prerogative, not the games’.

Armour in GW2 is largely bland/underwhelming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nefaria.7659

Nefaria.7659

“This was not the case in GW1. There was a clear improvement on the aesthetic quality of the 15k armour vs. the 1k armour. Most of the FoW armour looked absolutely stunning (Ranger was the one exception due to being the only set that wasn’t symmetrical, though I realise that lack of symmetry bothers me more than most and obviously you can’t please everyone at the same time even IF studies show that humans are visually attracted to symmetry… but I digress).”

I’ll have to disagree there, in contrast to the 15k armour the Obsidian sets were pretty bland to me. Elementalists had some weird bodysuit, ditto with Necromancers but now with spikes! The only set I thought had some design merit was Ritualist.

The armours did symbolize a great deal of work, and weren’t as common as the other sets, so I could see the aspect of the work involved adding a layer of appeal.

Overall, I find a larger variety in the female character armour designs in GW2 than there was in GW1. However, I usually pan most of their male armour designs as being boring since they are more conservative than the females in many cases.

I guess the real question is, what is it in an armour set that makes it legendarily awesome looking to you? what are your choices as the best sets in guild wars 1 (outside of FoW armour)? what are the best from guild wars 2?

I can understand the people wanting new skins, but just saying you want “better” ones makes it hard for them to design it.

Nefaria.7659

Of all this discussion we can only notice that 1- Sylvari have genitalia
2-They only appear similar to humans

Sylvari having genitalia isn’t a surprise if you know about real plants. Since actual plants reproduce they do have sexual organs. Infact! There is a whole wikipedia page on it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plant_sexuality

Sylvari having nipples could be explained by human mimicry, but their lack of nipples would make sense from a plant sexuality perspective, since they would probably not nurse their children.

The aspect of Sylvari covering themselves is a culture/social thing and not related to whether or not they have nipples. Actual human cultures have differing positions on whether it is acceptable for women to walk around with bare chests/certain level of clothing so Sylvari probably have some sort of social norms in regard to this.

However, Krait having boobs/nipples/bikinis is just weird but typical for fantasy environments I guess.

What professions make sense for sylvari? Can they be necromancers, elementalists, guardians, etc.

in Lore

Nefaria.7659

Sylvari necromancer in Ghosts of Ascalon was Killeen.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Killeen [Book spoilers]

She was actually questioned in the book about why she practices necromancy. I don’t have the book on me to quote directly, but the gist of it is that death fascinated her since the Sylvari did not have extensive knowledge in that area. So she was mostly studying death, rather than “worshipping” it as necromancy is occasionally depicted.

In Guild Wars 2 scope, necromancers in general are seen to just study “death magic”, rather than it being an art on its own. Asura treat it as just another type of magic.
