Hi Gaile. I don’t have any specific info as of now, but I think I can help a bit.
Once when I experienced such random death, instead of waypointing I logged out to character select. When I loaded in the game, characters was displaced in another portion of Lion’s Arch. So my assumption is that server decides that you are in some other part of the map. This explains a lot of things:
- You can’t see NPCs and players and dynamic objects because server does not send this info to you, you’re out of radius in which they load around you.
- People can’t resurrect you – again, your “server” body is lying somewhere far away.
- A wild guess – a random death itself is a server’s reaction to your movements, as if you’re a cheater with teleport hack and discrepancy between client’s and server’s coords changes too fast. Again – it’s a wild guess, I am not a cheater and don’t know how server handles cheaters, but it seems pretty logical.
Oh our prophet John Smith! Since you’re answering questions about Ecto salvage, would you please look at my research and tell if something is wrong? Mystic/Master’s Salvage Kit, for context.
The chance of salvaging 3 ectos from gear being bigger than the chance to salvage 2 ectos is killing me.
In the mean time, it doesn’t penalize 2 of the same profession, only 3+.
Well, I don’t know… this isn’t suppose to happen twice in a row, right?

About Open world vs. Instanced GH: what if we sort of combine both? Guild claims some structure in the open world, unused by events, PS and NPCs and it becomes entry point for instanced Guild Hall. Non-guild players can see some basic decorations, like tag and icon, and props tied to upgrades.
Players of the guild that owns the building can enter it’s instanced version. Instanced version is “bigger on the inside” and has interior tied to location, i.e. asura lab or sylvari leaf house for building in Maguuman, human tavern or house for building in Kryta, etc.
Pros:
- GH has Open World noticeable representation.
- GH are spread around the world.
Cons:
- Limited amount of buildings in each area (can be solved by adding more houses, or zone part specifically for houses) .
- Guild members can’t see the exterior without leaving GH.
I wish I could say soon™. But this is a pretty interesting issue to address.
May I ask you to design the fix as a general tool to manage effects’ scaling? Aside from PvP, it is pretty kitten up on world bosses. Reducing the scaling with the size would help a lot, allowing to actually see the boss and read his attacks (Statue of Dwayna is the most blatant case).
And, um, I don’t really know how GW2’s servers work (it should be quite a messy code, judging by the amount of stuff that “accidentally” breaks with every patch; no offense intended), but wouldn’t adding a scaling modifier into what should like (var effectsDimensions) * (var scalingModifier) * ((var characterHeight)/(const normalHeight)) be pretty easy?
(edited by Nighthawk.6453)
Surprised it took this long for someone to notice!
So-o… these aren’t dev’s tools as I assumed they are…
I’m not saying this isn’t possible, but I want you to understand exactly what that suggestion means. It would mean completely rebalancing the Ranger.
The Ranger is designed to have a pet. If the pet was taken away or didn’t do damage, then it wouldn’t be a Ranger anymore. Does that make sense?
The only reason Rangers lose damage is because the AI is not currently what it ought to be. That doesn’t necessarily mean that we should completely redesign the Ranger and get rid of the pet.
The main complain IMO is that a 1/3 of our DPS is almost independent from us. We can’t fuel pet with condition damage like necro or mesmer, we can’t trait it effectively (like mesmer can have +fury, +health, +damage, damage on death, conditions on death, heal on death etc for his illusions). So, I’d like to get other pet issues fixed first and tune damage afterwards. E.g. if you reduce AoE damage pets take and add dependency from ranger’s stats – that already might fix a lot.

No More Tricks, Scarlet
- This achievement requires a good deal of skill and awareness, make sure you are watching for the red telegraphs that show where the Holograms will fire next and make sure you do not run through any active scorch marks during the fight, good luck!
The main problem with this achievement, afaik, is that sometimes you’re ported to Breachmaker when the fight is already ongoing, and instantly die due to spawning on “scorch mark”, so achievement fails from the very beginning.
1. Ranger
2. Necromancer
3. Elementalist
Hmm, don’t know about resurrecting, but in the last few days I several times found people that I knocked off the Skyhammer teleported back to the map. I can remember of necromancer (which can be okay with whatever-skill-they-have), and, more strangely, a ranger.
sounds like i hit a bit too close to home then
So if devs agree with you – they are wrong because they drop big important projects, and if they disagree – they are wrong because they are hiding it? So, basically, from your point of view devs are always wrong?
What a nice idea, someone buys 1.5 million of cheap quartz, causing panic on the forums, prices rise up, and then that person dumps quartz back into the market and enjoys the profit.
Did anyone die during the entirety of the instance? The achievement tracks deaths in all three Watchwork/Hallucination rooms and the Toxic Hybrid room. It does not count downed states, but it does count every player death for the whole instance.
I was running solo, and I surely didn’t die a single time. Maybe my pet did, but… well, if it counts, it sucks.
Was WvWing today for ~2 hours, got 2 Thimbles (maybe 1 from rank chest) and 5-7 Drops.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start a Belcher’s Bluff minigame with another player (probably NPC is fine too).
2. Use “Infinite Watchknight Tonic”.
- Expected result: “You can not transform again right now…”
- Observed result: Watchknight transformation replaces Belcher’s Bluff without leaving mini-game, resulting in having HP regeneneration OOC.
The search function being the awful thing it is, did they say if you get exp/wexp on this overflow map?
You will get WXP. This is tied to WvW after all.
I understand that you can’t give any specific information yet, but was this map something like a concept of Edge of the Mists, or that was an entirely different area?
Find a party, dude.
Piken Square just did it.
Unfortunately I didn’t capture event bar, but we had like 1:30 left – the best result afaik.

I consider a challenge to be something to be overcome by skill, not by dying to something that is 100% out of your control and then trying again. That’s just my take on it though. With the way I mentioned, they would still be invisible, you’d just have half a second to dodge away.
But you know, this is not Challenge Mode, this is Tribulation Mode. It is designed so that you have to die to discover all traps.
Well, everybody knows, that “owls are not what they seem”… a crazy idea: what if it is Trahearne, stealing our credits??
In the W2-2, in the very beginning, I’m failing to do this jump without dodge-jumping. Is it possible, or I just took the wrong route?
There’s a small area on the left to jump from against the cliff.
Lol. Interesting, why I thought you can’t jump from that ledge…
Are all bosses being changed? if so, why only the achivements for Tequatl?
Not all, but many. Megadestroyer, Fire Ele and Golem were mentioned “among others”. I think they just got new scaling and skills, but only Elder Dragon’s champions are worth an achievement category. However, in the release only Tequatl was revamped and Shatterer/Claw were unchanged.
In the W2-2, in the very beginning, I’m failing to do this jump without dodge-jumping. Is it possible, or I just took the wrong route?

Half an hour, and a guide, to complete the easiest bits. What happens when you get to the more difficult stuff? Right, you die more. A lot more. And if you are an Oceanic player? Constantly.
Oh and you think 15 minutes extra is enough to do TM without a guide? Lol…
That’s why I don’t like stubborn players… OK, precise mode on.
W1-1: 40 baubles from the dig sites, 100 baubles just to pick up, 2BB and 1 CC. Honeycomb and smashing items in the shops are excluded. Estimated time of run – 5 minutes.
W1-2: 240 baubles from dig sites (excluding the one after the Shortcut Wurm), ~190 to pick up, 2BB and 1 CC. Honeycomb and smashing items in shops excluded. Estimated time of run – 10-15 minutes (with backtracking in Area 2). Total: 570 baubles, 4 BB.
W1-3: 180 baubles from dig sites, 119 to pick up, 2BB and 1 CC. Honeycomb and smashing items in the shops are excluded. Estimated time of run: 10 minutes. Total: 869 baubles, 6 BB.
So, 25-30 minutes for 9BB and 3CC, that gives you 240 lives. That is enough to complete the whole W1 in tribulation mode with guides for a newbies or without guides for a skilled player, for non-oceanic players.
TM gives you 750 baubles, that’s 75 lives – enough to complete the W2 in normal mode with guides for a newbies or without guides for a skilled player, for non-oceanic players.
There’s no full list of dig sites and baubles for the world 2 and I’ll skip it for now.
So, it is possible for a skilled non-oceanic player to make both worlds and W1 in tribulation mode without guides, starting with 0 coins and no ICC. Any questions?

Did you read my post? Half of an hour of farming is enough to complete 2 Worlds. There goes your argument about “saving time”.
With guides or not, it doesn’t matter – I truly doubt there exists someone that never ever consulted with some kind of guide; and if you really want to do TM without guides – well, spend 15 more minutes for farm, and do as you wish.

You pay, you gain an advantage. You have more time to attempt SAB, and more leeway for deaths. It is that simple.
You can earn 200 lives or so in half an hour, simply by farming W1. That’s enough to make W2 on normal and W1 on TM, if following guides, and by doing this, you’l learn 200-300 lives more, enough to complete W2 on TM with guides. ICC isn’t really saving any significant amount of time. Not to mention you first have to spend some time to earn gems.

You pay, you save yourself time and energy. It is the very definition of pay to win. Stop trying to justify it with ‘oh but you can farm blahblahblah’, when the coin skips all of that.
The definition of pay to win is that you “pay to win”, not “pay to save time”. Or you don’t use waypoints and travel on foot, because it’s paying coins for saving time?
Pay to win does not actually mean you pay, then you win…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay_to_win
“…if players that paid for special items subsequently become better at a multiplayer game than those who did not purchase the same items, then it will not be as enjoyable as other games since players who paid more money are more successful than those who simply rely on skill. These games are known as “Pay-to-Win” (often abbreviated P2W) games."
- Players that paid for ICC subsequently become better? No.
- Players that paid money are more successful than those who relay on skill? No.
Conclusion: not P2W.

Tribulation mode World 2-2, checkpoint bugged

Bump. (15 symbols)
Because it’s stupid to try to fight dragon in his melee zone. Guaranteed one-shot with a leg/tail/head/fire breath, depending on what he wants for dinner. The best strategy is to impediment his movements with some kind of lasso, then finish him with bows/crossbows/throwing spears.
The problem with the remake is that it’s population gated. I know people get mad when someone says this, but GW2 for most of the servers doesn’t have a huge population. You might see 10 to 15 people doing an event. Sometimes if you are really luck you can see 30+ doing an event. This one will require 80. That’s just so far beyond anything most servers can pull off. I know that some of you can’t admit that. I know some of you will get offended. I’m not saying GW2 is dead or anything.
You always can guest on more populated servers, if that’s the problem.
On EU servers we have like a dozen of overflows for map when invasion happens, and that’s just champ farming. Teq 2.0 will drop ascended weaps, and I’m pretty sure you’ll fight hard for the place among that 80 ppl.

Tribulation Mode’s anthem is “Outwit the Devs”. It’s all about searching for shorter paths.
I don’t say I care for less-skilled players, I mean ArenaNet cares.
And Liadri wasn’t as hard at all. I spent near 7-8 hours to complete World 1, while I bet Liadri in 2 hours.
Hard means it reaquires skill to play, when you pass those invible traps you’ve proved that you died so many times to finally understand where it is, there is no skill in that = it isn’t hard, it is unfair.
Lol dude, this is meant to be unfair.
No, that would be nice, but unfair. That level of difficulty is possible because you don’t get any unique reward. If they add a title – that would be totally unfair to newbies that can’t do it.
Tribulation mode is meant to be unfair hard. By design. You don’t like it – don’t play it, all you lose are achievement points and skins with different glow.
Traps aren’t unpredictable.. or, only for the first time. Memorizing territory is a key.

Do you gain more reward if you finish it faster?
You know the saying? Time is money. The saved time is spend outside earning concrete gold coins :p
First, you have to spend gold or IRL money to purchase IC, so it doesn’t “save time” in this manner, at least not for farming. Seconds, you agree, that this is just save time and don’t immediately “win” the SAB?..
Don’t stand on the edge of the raft?.. Knockback is less than half of the raft’s length/width.
There’re problems? Yes, I finished both worlds in normal mode and world 1 in TM solo.

If they added a weapon in the gem shop that instant killed every boss in the game people would just say “oh it’s not P2W, you can beat the bosses without it” or “what are you winning noob?”
Does the Infinite Coin TP you to the last boss? No, it does not. If take your analogy with dungeon boss, it removes the necessity to run throw thrash mobs if you die.

Besides which, I really do not understand this desperate need of white knighting Arenanet with semantic tricks. Even if it’s not defined as “pay to win”, the bottom line here is that they designed content which was specifically built to be frustrating if you don’t pay, fun if you pay. How is that not a pathetic money grab?
Mhm, because I don’t understand the desperate need to say it is p2w when it is not?
The tribulation mode is frustrating no matter do you have IC or not. The zone completion, an achievement, is fun no matter do you have IC or not.
So how is having infinite coins not paying for a large advantage over another player that doesn’t pay for this item?
There’s no large advantage. I can complete any zone in worlds 1 and 2 without dying. I can complete w1z1 TM without dying. I’m in progress of figuring out the way in w1z2 TM, but I’m pretty sure it is possible in here too.

After nerf daily end chest form person to acc it is P2W. First time after ~8years I see item like Infinite Coin in GW games.
And how does the nerf make it p2w? You can’t farm w1z1 with 8 characters? If that is your way to get baubles, then farm honeycombs. Also, nerf to dig sites hurt the farming much more than end chests.
It’s pay to win , come on. How can you even disagree with this? If you compare it to normal coins you still have to get out of sab and farm them someone. And with the continue you can do it 24/7.
You still can earn about 1k baubles only from world 1, and trade them for 20 Continue Coins = 100 lifes. Pretty much enough for those who use guides.
For those who are whining about p2w… Infinite Coin does not win you the game. It’s just a helper. You still have to do all that stuff that ones without coin do. It does not create shortcuts, or activates all checkpoints, or whatever you can call cheating. Having infinite lives itself is not a cheat, since you can do pretty much everything without dying, or with 1-2 lives.

Thank you, finished Zone 3!
I should have been blind to not see that cloud =\
It took me bout an hour to get to the very top (I guess), but I can’t find the way further. Unfortunately I was kicked to the hub by some reason, so no screenshot. Here I am stuck: might be a spoiler for someoneon the high "towers" with jumping sheeps, where the blizzard reduces the ditance of vision, there' s a checkpoint. After checkpoint, there're 3 polar bears, I killed 'em. But I have no clue where to go after this, nowhere to go from that platform. On the left side it looks like there's a closed aperture, but usually they're opened from the inside, and I can't see the way in, so...
As there’re tips on fighting the boss already, I guess quite a few people already made this part.
Liadri is created to be hard. It will not be nerfed. If they ever create casual mode (which I doubt they will) – no minipet or other “special” reward.
Liadri is not RNG boss, on both phases AoE follows a pattern and you simple have to learn it, and Rifts can be pretty easily dealt with. And while the camera is the real problem in a small dome, it doesn’t make the encounter unbeatable – proved by lots of succeeded people.
- If you don’t have the time to try hard – don’t try. Why not simply give everyone a legendary, if not everyone can spend much time to acquire it?
- If you have some physical problems – don’t try. This is game, no point in pushing you towards something nasty.
- But it gives 20 points! – pff, I didn’t play GW1 and I miss 500 AP and skins and pets etc., so what?
60 seconds might be too much, if some world is hardly making it in 45 minutes. If you want the achievement – when 1-2% of the last meta event lasts, get OOC, open the map and watch for the final event to occur, then instantly port there. No problems at all.
You seriously want to complete all achievements in the first 1-2 hours? Get some patience. My overflow just failed first invasion at all.
