I’m an engie because I thought asurans looked cute with backpacks on. That’s literally why I rolled one. I played one in beta and was underwhelmed, but when my asuran Guardian put on a backpack for one heart, I knew I had to roll an engie.
I’ll be using this for PvE, at least initially, though at 80 I may transition to WvW. Not sure yet.
I’ve made necros before, but this is the first one I plan to keep and level to 80. I find the mechanic of switching in and out of Death Shroud to be very fun and interesting. I was just wondering what popular DS builds are right now and any advice on leveling with a DS focused Necro.
Thanks for the advice! I’m leaning towards de Ossa.
I will be making one because I want at least one of every race. Note, though, that I waited to make one until I had to buy extra character slots. I almost never play human in games like this.
My next character is going to be a human, with the “Noble” background. I’ve got a first name picked out, but I’d like to tie him into the lore a bit, so I was wondering if any of you noticed any last names of any nobles in any of the story missions that were cool. I’d like it to be something subtle (I’m not giving him the last name Thackeray) but anything you can find would be awesome.
Oh my gosh yes. I hate having to tab through nine targets when I go down, looking for the one that gives me a chance at getting back up.
I’ve always thought hammers make the best choice. Visually, I’d love to see skills based on forging and blacksmithing.
Trait for them and the cooldown goes way down and the duration way up. You can command them without destroying them too. Give it a shot sometime.
This, and make it so I don’t have to get it back out between map changes.
My Guard, for which I strove for an “Iron Man” vibe.
T3 Cultural Headpiece
Vigil Shoulders
T2 Cultural Boots and Gauntlets
T1 Cultural Pants
Sorrow’s Embrace Chest
Silver Dye with Ocean highlights and some color of lighter blue I forget.

No they don’t. They’ve got an AoE immobilize, not an AoE fear.
I want a wolf. That AoE fear is awesome. Unforunately, my server is not in control of Umberglade Woods currently, and I’m not a big WvW player.
Can we please get one Juvenile Wolf spawn on a PvE map? Please?
I just ran Molten today with a 30/20/0/0/20 build, using Hammer, Sword, and Shield. I’d specced for Spirit Weapons and massive upgrades to Virtue of Justice, and I got some really nice DPS on it, and my guildies commented on how much better it was than my last SW build.
I primarily do PvE, but I probably won’t be playing my guard all that much right now, since he mainly gets used for dungeons and I’m leveling several alts right now. I’m just curious in general how they are.
I used to run a Spirit Weapon/Burning build, but stopped when they were given health bars. After they were recently buffed and pet AI was improved, I decided to try a SW build again (Minus the huge focus on CD this time). Just wondering what your opinions are on the matter.
You can’t tank in this game. It wasn’t designed that way. And I believe warriors are weak in WvW due to their strength in PvE. Also, GS isn’t your best option in WvW as the burst (Hundred Blades) roots you in place. Give some of the other melee weapons a try.
I second the race specific emotes. It seems like a major oversight to have everybody do the same exact emote minus the dance.
They don’t do the same. Charr /surprised is awesome, and Asuran /laugh is the best.
They have the same names, but the animations are all very different.
You do realize how unhelpful this suggestion is? You basically just said to fix lag and had no actual suggestions on how to do it.
Hey, Anet! Fix bugs in your game!
Am I suggestion foruming right?
The necro should summon an undead cat or dog, then cuddle it.
Ele should have some sort of dance or interaction with an Elemental based on their current attunement.
Guards should roast marshmallows over their holy fire.
Good idea! I liek. +1
So you want an entirely different game? There’s no point in putting this in Guild Wars if you’re just going to remove the skills and the healing system and the stats and add an ammo system.
No. I main a guard. My on land build is a mildy tanky DPS role. If this were a normal MMO, I’d call myself an offtank. I cannot do my job properly underwater. My two weapon choices mean I can pick DPS or support. I find it very hard to do anything good underwater at all.
Different classes, different balance. That’s like saying why does the guardian get better armor than the ele? Because the class was built around that armor, not the light armor.
As for why they’re armor, maybe call them Ironskin Tattoos, or Ironskin Marks. That shouldn’t mess up the naming conventions at all. Beserker’s Ironskin Tattoos of Force.
You can’t put sigils in armor…
Right. I’m an idiot. I just said the first suffix that came to mind.
The naming system still works with Ironskin Tattoos or Ironflesh Tattoos.
light armor has only the feathered armor that is revealing, there is no need to be fully in loinclothes but something in the line of spartacus tv show would work magic in my opinion…
Right, but if the set was full loincloth, then characters would have the option of just using , for example, the chest piece if they wanted their character to be shirtless.
Additionally, if the tattoo idea was implemented, it would be really cool if using the dye remover allowed you make the tattoos invisible if you wanted.
The devs have stated that Player Characters will not be evil. This is to avoid generating needless division in the community based on alignment. All PCs are heroes.
That said, I wouldn’t mind an antihero option. Basically, make us pick between being Batman or being the Punisher. Do I go with the more difficult task that puts me above blame, or the quick and dirty route that walks a fine line between good an evil.
Make the whole expansion about whether your character believes the ends justify the means. If the story was smaller and more personal, you could even have drastically different endings.
It probably takes a lot of processing power that the game doesn’t need to dedicate as it has no in-game voice chat and no one zooms in on faces anyways. Besides, it still needs some work. The character looks pretty stoned and/or concussed in that video.
It’s cool tech, it just needs some polish and has no real place in Guild Wars, since there is no in-game voice chat anyway.
It could be done really well, especially with randomized events.
“Defend the Asuran Krewe while they take Chaos Readings.”
You run up, and a horde of adorable bunnies spawns. Free karma and exp, but almost none. Then, ten minutes later, it pops up again, but this time, two champion trolls pop in with Destroyer backup. You’re in for the fight of your life, but if you can succeed the event, the karma and exp and gold are amazing.
Discord approves.

I would love an armor set where the shirt for males is just chest tatoos, and for females, just a bikini top and tattoos. Maybe the same thing with all the armor parts, so if you wear the full set, you’re just wearing a loincloth an tatoos, and a leather top if you’re a female.
Something like http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Monk_dragon_armor
:)
That’s exactly what I was thinking of, though I might actually scale back the amount of ink on the skin. In terms of coverage of skin, I’d love something in the realm of Kratos’s tattoos. As for why they’re armor, maybe call them Ironskin Tattoos, or Ironskin Marks. That shouldn’t mess up the naming conventions at all. Beserker’s Ironskin Tattoos of Force.

I never, ever put numbers in my name, (I was a little kitten that the forum does it for you here.) and some of my characters have lore-based names. Others have joke names, but never really, really stupid ones. Probably the worst is my Sylvari named Duke Von Leafsford.
But my main is just named Nittles. Which I guess is an alright Asuran name.
I’d also really love to not have to choose between a rune that gives me power/precision etc. over one that can give me magic find. I find myself thinking ‘Do I want to kill mobs a lot faster but not have great loot, or kill them at snails pace in hopes of slightly better drops?’ It’s an annoying dilemma.
That’s a different discussion entirely, since the entire mechanic of Magic Find is built around that exact dilemma.
Yeah, I got really tired of “PROVE THE SUN SHINES THROUGH YOU!” in Caledon. Agreed.
Yus please! +1 for you!
But the game is not about grinding….
I remember a famous quote by General Ackbar. Our shields can’t handle firepower of that magnitude?
It’s a TRAP!
Pretty sure Chewie said that.
+1 for missing features.
How would that interact with headgear? I think what they should do instead is sell the hoods as headgear, or if they’re feeling particularly generous, give them away with the hoodie, and when you’re wearing both, they join up.
This. This so much. +1
Why would we consolidate them? They serve different purposes. They all have back in their name, but that’s it. It makes no sense to consolidate them. How would you mix storage bags and weapon kits together in any way? It makes no sense.
Instead of a heal skill giving 6500 or 8500 HP no matter if you have 10k hp or 30k hp add % but show it in numbers, so if the heal skill give 25% and you have 10k then it will heal for 2500HP and show 2500HP, if you have 20k then it will heal for 5000HP that way it is not a penalty to have much HP, now it is a penalty because you will have less defense when you have more HP.
It’s not less defense. You have more HP. You just have less of the PERCENT of your HP healed back. You still heal for the same amount.
To put it simply, let’s say you have 100 HP. You get hit by an attack that does 50 damage, then you heal for 50 HP. The HP gain looks big.
Now you have 1000 HP. You get hit by an attack that does 50 damage, then you heal for 50 HP. The heal LOOKS small, but it’s exactly the same. No penalty for high health.
If your system was implemented, toughness would become useless, since stacking HP would give you free healing power too. If you want to heal back more of a big HP pool, stack Healing Power.
Currently there is only 1 body type or male Norn that makes you look “fit” and not like your character gorged himself on doughnuts while he was fighting that giant ice worm. I suggest toning up the Norns just by a bit to add a new body type that makes them look more like a counterpart to the females.
This is something the artists got right.
The Hollywood fantasy that you can look like Arnold with nothing but dedication is a lie. In order to have the bodytype of someone that can wrestle bears you must also put on fat in order to support that kind of muscle building. To reiterate: if someone puts on a lot of muscle without putting on any fat first, it implies steroid use.Maybe you want to try a lore argument? I don’t think any evidence exists one way or another to say if they have any genetic compatibility with humans. We know they’re big, love alcohol and live in the cold.
The bodytypes of the male Norn is something that was well studied and done correctly. Sorry if the Norn don’t stand up to your south California bodybuilder nonsense.
Did you even read the post? There’s nothing in here about people going from skinny to big. He just wants a wiry, athletic norn, in addition to his brawny buff ones, that are currently the only choice for a male norn.
OP, I agree. +1.
But the game is not about grinding….
I remember a famous quote by General Ackbar.
Our shields can’t handle firepower of that magnitude?
+1 for a feature that should have been in on day one.
+1 for good idea
I think the reason you can’t send mail to yourself is extra inventory space. If you can just write yourself ten letters with 5 slots each, you just gained 50 extra slots for free. I think a better solution would be to just let players take notes in the journal tab, or in a separate tab that can then be keybound.
As I understand it, culling, which is the issue you’re having with character pop-in, has less to do with your computer, and more to do with everyone else’s. It’s how fast the server sends the info to your computer.
If you can’t mind control players, the entire class mechanic is useless in PvP and mostly useless in WvW. No other class loses their class mechanic when in PvP, just the usefulness of some of their skills.
Since it’s not really an intended feature, and more just a side effect of the system, I doubt it would be implemented. They want you to sink money into waypoint costs, so making it easier to get around them probably won’t happen.
In fact, what I might see happening is actually them making WvW like leaving the Heart of the Mists, where it puts you back where you were, to shut this down.
It’s not a terrible idea, I just doubt it will ever get used.
Also, I doubt it would ease that much server traffic in LA. Most people stand around Trader’s Forum/BLTP. The people porting around the map either get in and get out quickly or stay, so reducing their loading screens isn’t really going to help all that much.
