hey guys, been playing shatter zerker and shatter condi lately and was wondering if interupt builds are still viable if so what traits, runes etc are used.

I play mesmer the most in pvp
When I’m playing condi: necro, I’ll set up my shatter and unleash loads of torment and confusion and burn and then have them all thrown back at me with some of his own on top.
When I’m playing power: thiefs, the amount of times I’ve 2v1ed on a point and killed one and about to claim delicious victory only for the thief to disappear, I take the point and then get Insta killed by same thief 30 secs later as I thought he’d run off, makes it worse when they then trash talk like little kids the entire game.

Warriors are terrible condis in my opinion, only thing they are good at are running away, their condis aren’t really good variety and are cleared easily,

Necroes absolutely wreck just about every condi build any class has, they just throw your own condis right back at you which make shatter Mesmers who have burst condi and not a whole lot of condi clear, which makes them difficult to fight against unless you run PU which means you can avoid them turning it back on you

When giving feedback, I always try to keep with your original flavor and feel. Thanks for reaching out to the community! I love condi shatter builds, and I love signets, so here is my advice:

Change Torch to Pistol

• My fellow condi shatter friends and I go back and forth about this, but I have always preferred the more active control pistol gives you. The biggest difference between power and condi shatter that many people don’t point out is that it’s significantly harder to actually land shatters on a condi build. This is because we aren’t typically using sword immob, Mirror Blade, MoD stuns or iWave. This gives enemies a better opportunity to dodge shatters. That nifty pistol 5 stun helps to set up plenty of other condi “bursts” whether it be an unloading from pDuelist, Confusing Images or an F2 shatter.
• I don’t have the numbers on this, but surely after the pistol trait is fixed 2 years from now, pistol will offer more overall dps than torch. The biggest thing you’re missing out on is the stealthing capabilities. This goes without saying, but my other suggestion is to take the pistol trait instead of DD. You’ll get more phantasms for bleeds and shatter fodder as well. You’ll also want to change the torch trait to either of the other adept traits. I use Compounding.
• Condition builds are already lacking in “burst” potential. I think Pistol is simply a lot more aggressive than torch for obvious reasons.

Take Power Block

• I don’t think Mental Anguish effects condition dmg unless I’m just a ignorant noob.
• This trait is too good not to take if you’re running 4 interrupts. You will understand this when your heal goes on CD for 15s.

Other

• There are some other changes that I would make to my build, but it simply comes down to flavor. I prefer condi duration + movement speed from travelors. I also always have energy on both weapons. The other two have wiggle room but I go doom on both.
• Overall, your build looks pretty on the tanky side considering you’re taking undead and S. Inspiration. If you want to take more of an offensive role (as much as a condi shatter build can be), I’d suggest picking a different rune like Krait and switching out S. Inspiration for S. Illusions.

Since posting the build, I’ve tried it a fair bit in dueling and conquest,
I got mixed responses with being able to work really well against some professions/builds and get rekt by others necroes in particular, it doesn’t cope well against high paced/damage like shatter, but all of this may be due to my inexperience, I found the shatters at times hard to land, with them being easy to dodge so I’ll definitely try pistol, and I’ll also give a hybrid build a go

It is usable(as usable like any condi builds now) and notching more, for pvp i would change signet of inspiration for blink. Mental Anguish for condi build? Rune of the nightmare IMO is better than undead

Signets of inspiration is for the swiftness, distortion and fairly low cd, went mental anguish due to not knowing what else (went down that tree in the first place to get the signet trait) and this being a fairly bursts condi undead provides max condi dmg and synergies well with my amulet.

I agree with your idea of being petlesa but still being able to have a pet through traits for those that like them but, your ideas are more like traits or utility slot abilities not a class mechanic, a better idea (that suits the archetype of a class mechanic) could possibly be like an having the common guild wars animals as aspects that you activate. When activated you become “aspect of the bear” for example and gain a passive bonus to health or toughness or dmg reduction depending on what aspect you activate whilst also gaining access to an ability that ties in with the aspect which you can use while you are in that aspect like for aspect of the bear you can use an ability called toughened hide where you are immune to conditions and or damage or crits idk w/e for a small period of time. I think this would be cool and also represents a rangers affinity to nature and animals

Now this is my own opinion but you asked so I will deliver. You stated that you want to “make a toon with damage and mobility”, then I shall point in to the ranger side of town. Now do not listen to what most people say about the ranger. If you can learn two things and get them down solid you will excel at ranger. These two things are you MUST LEARN TO KITE PERIOD, there is no way around it. The last thing is dependent on if you go lb or sb you may have to memorize timings(for sb with its conditional damage). Now other people will say " hey do you use a sword", well i personally do not as I am barely ever in melee range. Now I can’t say for pve but for pvp I do very good. I am using a variant of bearbow(without the bear) and in both pve and pvp i basically dominate. well that is my input and oh one last thing, your a click then take my advice and drop $100 bucks on a naga razer, you will never click again lol.

Ranger was the other class that looked promising especially because i like hunters from WoW, im competent at kiting but not that good as a guardian i dont really need to kite, i think i will make an ele and ranger and see which i like more and buy a
Naga which ive been meaning to for awhile

You dont have to use charges on armor/weapons thats in your inventory it will just use up the skin application thing you get when you buy gem store armor so you dont have to use charges on the first use just after you have used up the inventory stuff

For AoE and tons of numbers an Elementalist comes to mind first. Specifically using a staff. Staff eles are very useful in all areas of the game: Dungeons, Fractals, WvW. They do however have a higher than average learning curve to achieve maximum effectiveness.

A second choice would be a Wellomancer (necromancer with wells). Lots of AoE and a good person to have in a zerg. However they are less effective in Dungeons/Fractals than a good Ele. (in my opinion of course)

I heard necro wellomancers dont do that well due to the wells being a utilitie spot so having large cd and people just walk out of them as they arent that big, staff ele seems really interesting, i also hear that their d/d has alot of mobility and if played well survivability which is another thing i like. Only problem i have with picking ele is that im a clicker (hangs head in shame n leaves the room) and ele has alot of keyboard hopping so would my habit be a problem?? Also what race is best for ele?

Hey guys,
been playing gw2 for awhile now (since near launch) but have played it on and off, i have an 80 guard which im happy with but i want to try new proffessions. Ive made characters but dont commit and delete them without getting into them. So i think its time to properly commit and level a new character. I want to have really good range and mobility and be good and not kitten. I liked the hunter from WoW and i also love AoE damage… Or just loads of numbers lighting up the screen as i own everyone in sight. I dont want to pwn w/o trying im a medium skilled player n play pvp, WvW and not much else but woulnt mind going into fractals. All suggestions are appreciated an if you could do a rundown on pros cons of the proffession. Thanks loads

Whats the best proffession at ranged dmg n mobility?

Making a new toon and would like some advice on what each proffessions niche’s are… Ive got a 80 guardian which is good for WvW n Dungeons n is awesome at support i want to try out a caster (light armor class) proffession so how do ele, necro , mesmer stack up… What are they best/worst at what are they like??? No offense to you personally but why are people asking for class advise always asking for the wonder profession that is everything. If there was a class thats good at all the things you want then everyone was playing it. In the end the classes are reasonable balanced and it depends a bit what you want to do. If you want to farm tokens in a zerg you might prefer Ele. Despite what people are saying an ele can be build really sturn and protective, while still doing huge damage. Without the possibility to hide in a zerg you might get into trouble easy. Off course mesmer is a very good alternative.

Also keep in mint that every good player knows when and how to switch to close combat. there is no real exclusivly ranged profession cause warriors, thiefs and guardians will jumpclose to you anyhow.

Thought this forum was players helping players?? No offence taken but I’m not asking for a wonder class more of a good ranged roamer or wasn’t I being specific? Thx for input

Well mesmers are picked over rangers for dungeons most of the time. It’s not that rangers aren’t good in dungeons, it’s just that mesmers bring more group utility. But again, depends on playstyle. There are a lot of good youtube vids to watch. Search for hybrid beastmaster build for ranger and shattercat build for mesmer to get an idea of playstyle.

A ranger (esp with the new patch) actually offers all of that. Sb/gs rangers can be quite tanky and strong while keeping pretty mobile. Another great option is mesmer. You’re in light armor but even in full zerker gear they can be pretty easy to keep alive. In the end I’d say it all depends on your playstyle.

So Mesmer vs ranger… I want to play WvW n Dungeons, focusing on ranged dps survival mobilty, I have a Lvl 65 guardian btw

Still the answer is the same. The classes are very well balanced. If it wasn’t there would be one people where playing and the rest where totally neglected (specially with lack of the classic trinity rules: melee, dps, healer).

The difference between classes are in playstyle. Do you like to summon? Do you like a nuker thats squishy? Do you like to have a pet? Do you like using conditions?

I would like a class that excels in range n survival, AoE n conditions seem pretty cool I’m thinking ranger?? What are they like??

There is no best ranged proffesion.

Ok to explain a bit more. The guardian has indeed a lack of ranged damage. This doesnt make it bad at range cause Guardian is mainly a supportive class that happen to be able to do great damage up close. The ranged weapons are more for support.

All other classes are good at ranged but all with specifick specialisations.

Hey guys new to the forums and would like to know what’s the best ranged proffesion in the game… I have a main (guardian) that I love and enjoy everything about it besides the lack of viable ranged options that are good at damage and staff is more of a support, I am looking for the best ranged profession that has good dps, good survivablity n mobility, looking to do Dungeons, WvW and PvE. (PvP will be an added bonus but not really into it)
