eh. Just becomes another PokeWoW… But that’s just my opinion. And also why I’ve never collected things like minis. Never saw the point, as they don’t really add anything to my game, or do anything but stand there. Eh. to each their own, I guess.

well if you hadn’t smoked all those cigarettes you wouldn’t be colorblind

So I’m the only one that laughed at this? I thought it was funny, nice job, Chickenshoes.

You’re forgetting that 99% of all internet users have Aspergers Syndrome.

OT: I’m not colorblind, but I see no reason as to why there shouldn’t be an option for alterting UI and other colors in the game.

What is this sudden idiotic obession with insults calling everyone that gets remotely offended/annoyed by an idiotic comment on the internet Autistic all of a sudden? If you honestly believe that, then you sir, can go straight to hell.

I’m not autistic, but I know people who are, and I’d bet my life on the fact that they’re better people than you scumbags throwing ignorant insults on the internet because all the “cool kids” are doing it. You’re just more scum jumping on the bandwagon in a desperate attempt at feeling accepted by SOMEBODY. Unfortunately, you reach out to total strangers on the internet for this.

I use everything just as it is, aside from the horribly placed function key abilities, to which I have bound a new keybind for Shift + 1-4. Makes getting to these abilities exponentially easier, and involves much less thought for me. Makes playing my Ele and mesmer a breeze.

I also have a Razer naga, so it helps, I can keep my fingers on the movement keys and I only have to press shift with my left hand, and the button I want is under my right thumb. XD expensive mouse, but totally worth every penny. Especially for MMO’s.

I’ve got another thread asking for exactly the same thing, with a few potential solutions as well. I don’t have a link, but it’s named “Colorblind Friendly Options? Please?” be sure to take a look at it and throw your support in with everyone else that already has.

I agree, above all else. COMMUNICATION is the #1 thing that RP requires to function well. I’ve been RPing for a VERY long time, (since AOL chatrooms. yay dial-up) And have seen nearly every kind of God-moding under the sun. Only reason I prefer dice nowadays, is because while chance isn’t the most flattering way to handle a situation, it can be the most authentic. You’re not always going to be a dead shot with your pistol, no matter how well trained you are with them. You’re not always going to get a good grip on someone’s wrist when they take a swing at you. You might end up accidentally dodging into a pillar you didn’t even notice was there, or forgot about when someone’s fist started speeding towards your face. Perfect system? not by a long shot. But, in my humble opinion, it can keep the players honest. Which to me, is important. Integrity in an RP’er is one of the first things I look for in an RP partner. Or group for that matter.

Addendum: This said, it doesn’t mean that if you don’t agree with me, I refuse to RP with you. I may try to avoid something that could turn into a conflict that would require us to agree on a ruleset, but I will still RP with you. I’m not so elitist as to think my way is the only way to RP. Everyone has their style, or how they RP’d for years. Old habits die hard. If you flat-out refuse to use dice, and then start shooting kitten lazors at me and stuff that you have no business doing, I’ll just kindly ignore you, and find someone else to RP with.

I hate to say it, but a bunch of people, myself included, have been asking for this since launch. I have absolutely no idea why they won’t do it.

My own problem is that, while I’m not colorblind, I am legally blind in one eye, and AOE circles are partially transparent and also very thin. I’m normally a decent player, but it’s completely undermined when I can’t see AOE circles at all on snow, red backgrounds (lava fractal and Megadestroyer event ahoy!), or some brown backgrounds. Doubly difficult when a lot of mobs don’t telegraph obviously enough for me to be able to see it.

And often when I can see the AOE circle, I can be standing several feet outside of it and still get hit.. What the hell?

Not only does this game severely need colorblind support (a surprisingly large percentage of men are colorblind), but the AOEs need to be overhauled to where someone with subpar vision can still see them since few people have perfect vision – I am blind in one eye but the other eye should be decent enough to be able to pick them up, but they’re just too vague, and nigh on invisible on some background colors. As well, telegraphing for big moves should be more obvious, and you shouldn’t be able to be hit if you’re outside the AOE circle! That’s the whole point of having an AOE circle!

I know this has probably been asked for since release, I had hoped that other people before me would have been heard and listened to a long time ago. I’m finally at the end of my rope, and decided to come here and let myself be heard.

I’ve had people ask me when I tell them I don’t do dungeons because of my colorblindness. “Why don’t you just get your guild or someone to carry you?” The answer? I HATE feeling like I’m being carried through something. If I’m going to be there, I want to do my part, and be an asset to my team. I can’t do that if they’re constantly having to risk their own necks to get me back up because of a physical limitation.

I’ve been going around on my server (Tarnished Coast) trying to drum up support for this, and I honestly don’t feel that Anet is going to listen until we all do the same, and overwhelm them with support for something so simple and easy to implement.

Everyone’s support is very much appreciated, by the way.

Making Gold?

Noodlegotagun.1862

To be honest, I personally have no intent of making legendaries in the forseeable future. I do waht I want, when I want, how I want. And I enjoy the game fine. I can still find exotic pieces, or even low level pieces that look good enough for a cosmetic outfit to show off/RP in, and the stats hunting doesn’t really engage me. I got my ele to 80, and did some farming to get the materials to make her a full berserker’s exotic set, and that was pretty much all the farming I’ve done in this game… ever. I spend most of my time RPing, chatting, or just leveling an alt. If I wasn’t so horrible about spending my money, I’d have a lot more gold than the 21 I have right now. I’m just one of those people that buys on impulse and instantly regrets it. XD

Since I’m not looking towards any potentially expensive gear/goals, I don’t mind how much money I have in my wallet at any point in time. I’m playing to have fun, not to spend hours upon hours running around mining/foraging, champ farming, whatever.

Speaking of that, however. just leveling alts, and gathering EVERYTHING in sight as I simply play the game, levels them faster, AND gives me tons of materials I have no intention of using, that I can make loads of gold off of Every week or so. My advice? Just play the game like you would any other, and your wallet will fill itself without you noticing. It’s supposed to be fun, not a second job.

Exploration, its impossible!!!

in Players Helping Players

Noodlegotagun.1862

If you don’t have friends to do it with, you can also often call out in map chat to see if anyone wants to go along with you.

I personally found the whole map very fun. But I enjoy exploring. One thing I will say though — it’s more fun when you’re doing it because you want to do it than when you’re just trying to rush through it.

this seems to be the issue, i really want to enjoy it but the legendary is teasing me, do i enjoy the explore that i have left or rush for twilight, ive been on the game 1200 hours now and every minute has been dedicated to twilight

Stop and think about why you want Twilight, and what you plan on doing after it.

The core game won’t change after you get Twilight. You’re not going to get access to top-tier raids or dungeons or PvP, unlike other games after grinding for a certain piece of gear. Neither are you going to have mass admiration or fame. Nor will you become a more powerful player. A legendary is a skin and a personal goal, not a game-changer. You get one because you like how it looks (as in, even if it was common as a blue drop, you would get it because you like how it looks) and then you continue playing the game as always.

With that in mind, is it worth getting the skin if you just burn out and blow past content you want to enjoy? My friend has multiple legendaries (all of which he made himself) and 100% map completion on five characters. As soon as he decided he wanted a certain legendary or map completion, he went after it hammer and tongs whenever he was in-game and didn’t stop unless someone needed his help. Yet the work hardly bothered him- rather, he enjoyed the feeling of making progress towards his personal goal, and after finishing those goals, just played the game as always.

However, I on the other hand don’t go after things so fervently. I like doing things on a whim and will usually drop everything if someone calls in with a question or even just wants to chat. I have my legendary’s precursor, WvW map completion, and more than enough clovers, so all elements of chance are out and the only thing that keeps me from finishing my legendary is straightforward work. Still, I spend most of my time online not actively working, but just doing things I like to do. When I explore, I pick an interesting direction and just walk and see what I find.

My way of doing things is much slower than my friend’s, but we both enjoy the game and progress without burning out or getting bored, and neither of us feel forced to work. Ultimately, that’s the most important thing. Make sure you’re getting the legendary because you want to, not because you feel you have to or that it’ll earn you admiration or make you a better player. And when you do the work required, try to do it in a way where you’ll enjoy it. Your legendary’s not going away, and there’s hardly any point in getting it if the process leaves you burnt out on the game itself.

This, 100%. I can’t imagine working so hard for something in a game it burns you out so much you want to quit playing anyway. I spend most of my time with GW2 leveling alts when I feel like I want to, or just sitting around in DR shooting the breeze in map chat, or RPing. Why? because It’s what I want to do at the time. If I want something bad enough, I’ll work for it. I just haven’t had anything really grab at me and make me want to put massive effort into it yet. Since this game has little to no gear/content treadmill like most other MMO’s, the game is perfectly playable at everyone’s personal pace. Nobody’s really wrong in how they enjoy the game, as long as they’re enjoying it.

My Sylvari Necromancer. some of the things she says when she summons a minion, or it dies. Many of them are really great. Though… now that I try to think of them, I can’t remember any of them exactly. Need to play her more.

mostly, I just want a /roll command to cut down on god moding. I play on Tarnished Coast, and RP is everywhere. (good RP is another story, but I won’t go there.)

Dice don’t lie. And if someone wants to fight or something, and refuses to use /roll, well.. you can safely ignore them. they’re probably god-moders anyway. I’ve met very few honest free-form RPers. Roleplaying is 100% available, you just have to be on the right server, and in the right places.

If you’re looking for something to engage you, and challenge you, an Elementalist is an excellent choice for dishing out a lot of pain quickly. you just have to endure those first 30 or so levels, where you’ll feel discouragingly under-powered due to how the class scales early on. It requires a lot more skill and practice to use than others, but the rewards are definitely worth it.

I might also suggest a Necromancer, or perhaps a ranger if you don’t mind playing a pet class. These are also capable of very good damage, as long as you trait right, and use the proper stat combinations. They’re also not as involved as Elementalist, making them more mid-ranged classes as far as difficulty.

For an easier time, maybe going with a DPS warrior or Guardian could be a good start point. They’re both great classes to get your foot in the door with, as the premise is pretty simple. Go smack stuff with a big weapon. You’re still going to be dodging, and all of that, but you won’t get punished as harshly if you miss a dodge wearing heavy armor.

Asuran Elementalist -- Bad choice?

As said race isnt it.
Ele is very squishy and difficult to master, bad combo.
I couldnt get the hang of Attunement swapping and gave up on my Ele (wich is lvl55 btw)

Played ele up to 80 and continued in WvW up to about rank 100.
D/D isn’t at all ‘squishy’ if you build it right. Staff is a ranged dps so doesn’t need much toughness anyway.

It’s an exciting, fast playing class with a lot of tricks up it’s sleeve. It has so many skills available that you always have something unexpected to throw at other players.
Oh, and it has the most devastating mass extinction AoE burst in the game, Churning Earth.

D/D is absolutely NOT squishy in any respect. I remember going from mid 50’s to 80 using a D/D arc/water build, and I was solo’ing group events attunement juggling and healing myself constantly by dropping back to water attunement for an instant heal and regen, dodge-rolling for a heal(30 arc trait. loved it so much.) and just dropping a cleansing wave when that wasn’t enough. Constant Vigor boons helped immensely as well. Not going to say it didn’t take forever, as I was stacked in healing power gear. But I could solo group events if I had a mind to. Ele is an insanely fun, and definitely challenging class to play. Probably why I love it so much. Biggest thing to remember is. Elementalist is sort of the late bloomer of GW2. you’re not as powerful early on, thanks to the way some classes scale with others. (a lvl 20 ele compared to a lvl 20 guardian, for instance.) But, depending on how each player builds, they often fall into their own strengths and weaknesses by the 50’s, and are completely different beasts by 80. All too often when I’m doing solo stuff on my 80 ele, I wish I was recording it, just to show off how amazing the class is.

My biggest reason for not wanting capes, is because you’ll have tools running around in their underwear wearing nothing but a cape proclaiming their awesomeness or some such garbage… Usually in the center of an RP hub, trolling people who just want to RP in peace. The concept itself is fine, I just already know what some people are going to do with it, because it’s been done ad nauseum everywhere else capes have been implemented.

I’m colorblind, and I’ve enjoyed playing this game off and on since it’s release.

The off and on part may get your attention. One of the biggest reasons I haven’t been playing constantly, is because I feel… well, for lack of a better word, neglected. Let me explain.

I’ve played a LOT of MMO’s over the years. (Runescape, WoW, Rift, TOR, just to name a few.) And all of them added colorblind support at some point after their development. In TOR’s case, they took steps to improve the game’s playabilty for colorblind players within the first few months of release.

So my question is this. Why hasn’t Anet followed suit, after over a year? I can’t be the only person having this problem. The biggest of which is not being able to see enemy AOE circles in combat, because they’re typically thin red circles on brown or green backgrounds, that are nearly impossible for me to discern in time to react properly.

I’ve done maybe.. 2 dungeons in the entire time I’ve been playing GW2, because I know I’ll be nothing but a liability, because I’ll end up missing an AOE because I just can’t see it. A physical limitation that can be mitigated shouldn’t keep people from enjoying a game they want desperately to enjoy.

So solutions to this problem? TOR made it very simple. they used thin red lines to denote enemy AOEs in the beginning. how did they fix it? they turned it into a VERY thick, easy to spot crosshair. that also spun inside the circle. The movement alone makes it exponentially easier to see. This is a possible solution. Also, the ability to tweak the enemy AOE circle’s colors and/or thickness, or add a personalized graphic to the interior of the AOE circle is another option.

I don’t feel like I’m asking too much, personally. I want to continue playing GW2, but I also want to be able to enjoy the experience, instead of just getting frustrated by physical limitations I was born with.

TLDR: Can we please get options for colorblind players to tweak the game and make it enjoyable for them as well?

thoughts? thanks.

Tilde to cycle elements as Ele

For the function key abilities, I set a secondary keybind to Shift + 1-4. much less thought involved, believe it or not. And less hassle, given my function keys are about half an inch from the number row at the top for some reason. This way, instead of cycling and putting all your elements on cooldown, (which can get you killed) you can switch to exactly the one you want with less hassle. Hope this helps.
