LOTRO had fishing, titles and some fish can be made into trophies, then mounted on the wall of your house. With guild halls coming, maybe Anet could adopt this. I made some decent coin pulling a rare fish out of a stream for someone to put on their wall.

Actually when traited, shield is pretty great for pve too. It reflects projectiles, and stacks might with every block. I ran through a mob in Twilight Arbor and came out the other side, unscathed, with 12 stacks of might. Also shield bash does good damage and is an interrupt (on those who can be interrupted).

I use sword/shield for pve/pvp/and wvw and it works out well for me. The lines I use are Arms, Defense, and Discipline. Most of the traits should be self-explanatory—trait signets and swords (blademaster) in Arms—also go with Furious at GM.

Trait for shield (shield mastery) in Defense (this reduces CD and shield block reflects and stacks might—very effective in all game modes. I ran through a mob with shield block activated in Twilight Arbor and got 12 stacks of might instantly.) Defy pain(for tankiness) or Armored attack (for damage) for the middle trait. Cleansing Ire can be your GM trait from this line tho last stand isn’t bad for wvw.

Discipline will give you warrior sprint, brawler’s recovery tho you can swap this for destruction of the empowered for wvw or pvp. Take burst mastery for you GM trait.

I usually have longbow on swap for kiters and such, but sword/shield will be your primary setup and these trait lines fit perfectly IMO.

I run healing signet, for great justice, signet of stamina (swap for banner for groups), dolyak signet and usually Rampage for elite (swap with banner for groups or Rage signet for farming mats.

AP really shouldn’t be looked at as many have alt accounts due to the recent $10 sales. These accounts may not have many AP but are owned by experienced players—-I fall into this category. I have one account with over 10K and one with just over 1K AP. I sometimes run under my 1k just to see how I am treated. Overall, pretty well.

Also Necromancer has a bit more to offer groups than just the blood line. How about Blood is Power which stacks 8 might instantly for the entire group? A pretty useful utility in addition to the vampiric auras and DS tricks. Wells are more useful (ground targeting) and so are staff marks. Before kicking a necro, one may need to revisit the class. It’s gotten a lot better for groups.

When signets are traited it’s cooldown is only 16 seconds. And activating it gives precision. I find it useful to activate it, then go into Rampage. You will have the 6 sec. resistance and all the benefits of Rampage. Once you come out of Rampage, you’re ready to heal again if you need it. Great for pvp or wvw.

I will endorse The Secret World tho I never got it to run smooth on my rig. I don’t have a kitten PC, but it really runs poorly whereas all other MMO’s including GW2 run fine. So have a good rig for that. Some have said it’s not optimized, but I wouldn’t know about that stuff.

Otherwise, I could recommend giving Neverwinter a try. It’ll cost you nothing and I had some fun with it. It has a nice setting and the combat is active instead of tab targeting. GW2 is better by a mile IMO to Neverwinter, but I enjoy D&D and Forgotten Realms.

Or you could try GW1. It’s not dead and a lot of fun. Many different builds and combinations to try and of course a great setting to run around in. You just can’t jump.

I run sword/shield and signets all properly traited and it’s strong. I score well in pvp and it also works well in wvw. In pve I more than hold my own.

This build crits and stacks bleeds with sword a lot (Arms line); shield reflects and quickly stacks might(Defense line); the signets do what they do (Healing sig has 16 sec CD also Defense line) and add precision. My third line is Discipline as it should be for all warriors now.

I usually keep For Great Justice on my bar for more might stacking and group/ally support. If a group need “more” support, I’ll swap signet of stamina for a banner. I keep Dolyak signet locked on my bar no matter what.

I’ve gotten 12 stacks of might in >3 sec from one shield block. So while I hide behind my shield and heal (healing sig) a ranger or something is taking damage from all my bleeds and making me that much stronger—can shoutbow do that?

In fact, after the patch I may be looking at racial heals as well. ::snort::

After the patch, I would take even the racial elites like Reaper of Grenth over Plague. It’s going to suck that bad.

For movement, you can run a warhorn on swap. Warhorn has a skill that will grant you swiftness—pair that with the Signet or Rage (signet mastery only helps this) and you can have 100% swiftness uptime, so you don’t need warrior sprint or expensive runes.

Also, wvw zergs gladly welcome a warrior with a warhorn.

I think a sword/shield, longbow on swap with signets may be a good option. It’s selfish sure, but you will have good crits, might stacking, condi damage, and condi removal(survivability) overall.

6 in arms for sword and signet traits; 6 in defense for shield and CI traits; 6 in discipline for mobility, weapon swap and condi cleanse traits.

I don’t know what runes will be “meta” with the new condi system. Maybe Undead? Dunno; maybe run Wurm runes for vitality and extra crit damage. You’ll be critting a lot with sword.

After the Tuesday changes, put 6 in arms, 6 in defense, 6 in discipline. All of your sword traits are in Arms, shield traits are in defense and hammer traits are in discipline. There you go. : )

I don’t think traitlines effect your stats anymore Power or otherwise.

Dual swords seems pretty strong as long as you max out the Arms line. Lower CD’s higher crit chance, and 15% attack speed all seem viable. Dual anything else, not so much.

I was thinking of running a sword/shield build with bow (or whatever)on swap.

6 in Arms: Bloodlust, Signet Mastery, Blademaster and Furious.

6 in Defense: Adrenal Health, Shield Master, Defy Pain, and Cleansing Ire.

6 in Discipline: Fast hands, Warrior Sprint, Brawler’s Recovery or Destruction of the Empowered (for wvw) and Burst Mastery.

This seems like a decent roaming toon. I’d definitely run a few signets like Dolyak and Stamina (condi cleanse will be at a premium and the extra vigor helps). This is a selfish build but it’s not shoutbow or hambow and may do ok.

The problem is for me: That groups are only concerned about what build the warrior is running. Nobody cares if the thief is running venomshare, or the necro is running ground targeted wells or Plague signet. Many just want the Ranger to call their pet back, toss a frost spirit and pew pew pew.

When a group fails, its either the warrior or guard’s fault, not the engi, or the thief or the Mesmer. Eles gets some grief but nobody gets it like warrior and I still don’t understand why.

If a thief can run whatever—why can’t warriors? I’ve run “bad” (rifle, warrior runes, soldier gear)builds on purpose in high level fractals with guildies just to see if it’s the player, or the build. Guess what, we completed those fractals (Mai Trin even) just fine. I’ve done this many times in pvp and obtained wins with good scores.

In short: It’s the player, not the build or runes or sigils. And if warriors are held to a certain build, then throw it back on the other professions. R U (thief) running venomshare? No? KICK!!

I may run a 06606 build with sword/shield and bow on swap. I like the combined shield skills (reflect and lower CD) and the sword skills with the condi changes should provide decent damage.

This may not be ideal for groups but it should be a good solo roamer and at least it’s a slight change from shoutbow.

I like the shield skills for warrior.

I think a sword/shield (6 in arms 6 in Defense and maybe 6 in Discipline) build may be viable with the combining of the shield traits. It won’t be ideal for groups but should be fun for pvp, roaming and overall goofing off….Oh equip a bow for swap. :P
