We already sort of have hidden player gm’s. As the arenanet staff does play the game and don’t always rep their special tag. I’m sure we all have played some form of the game and have played with them and not even know it. I know i have in wvw.

Why did you pre-purchase Path of Fire?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Odin the exiled.5764

Odin the exiled.5764

for me it was cuz pof looked better then hot. I regret pre-purchasing hot and even buying it for the ultimate price, that expansion was not worth that kind of money. But with pof it’s much cheaper, looks better, has better looking monsters. And now that i previewed a little bit of new ranger elite last night. I saw a few new pets and they’re all from the elona nightfall. So that there makes me much more comfortable in my pre order of PoF. So im sure i will spend much much much much much much more time in PoF then i ever did in HoT. Much rather fight a sand shark, then some puke covered plant monster that lacks detail and colour.

LEVEL 80 - DISTRESSING

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Odin the exiled.5764

Don’t fret, your not actually losing any exp at all, by not getting the mastery system started. When your capped at 80, your xp turns into spirit shards, so it’s still going towards something. Just like when we first started, and hit cap, our exp bar kept going to give us skill points.

As for a clear direction, it might be a bit murky but there is a direction to progress to next “level” that’s why you see that flashing mastery thing. You can still finish your core story first though 4 starting it as you won’t really lose anything since there is tonnes of xp. Specially since once you do start the mastery leveling stuff, it’s account wide so all your other level 80 toons benefit from it too.

It is gw2 though and everytime they change something or come up with a new idea. It’s always confusing at first then once that’s over it gets easier.

DPS meter really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Odin the exiled.5764

Odin the exiled.5764

I’ve never been a fan of ppl using dps meters. Mainly due to so many players that are very negative with them and then start excluding players cuz of it. At least in gw2 cuz of megaserver you won’t really get blacklisted for being low dps compares to other games like dungeon and dragons online, where your stuck on that server and need to make a new toon just to play once blacklisted, or have friends to carry you.

With fractals anymore i find the pug groups due tend to just muster through unless with a really bad group. I myself play guardian, in pvt gear and generally have no issues in groups in t4. I do avoid the ones i don’t like though unless with a good group, or a fun talkative one. I do find it’s more about knowing the mechanics in them, and then dps after that.

Odin the exiled.5764

yeah only special ppl like wooden potatoes already played it and made vids on youtube about their experience. The rest of us have to wait til tomororw for the beta, and teh following weekend is the beta to try the elite specs in wvw/pvp

From what i have seen though, it’ll be a mix of HoT and core. The mastery system isnt indepth like HoT was, so will be faster to do them. That maps are more for exploring too with classic gw1 monsters that are upgraded. Like the hydra’s which are really awesome now. And lore has been added with regards to the elite specs. So id say it’s a bit more casual just cuz it might feel less grindy then HoT was when it first came out.

I do agree that they need to be more useful. I’m fine with the LWS3 ones being for one map for most part, that’s fine since they were easy to get and didnt require to many master points. But it would be nice if we could use them on more maps to make them feel more worth it.

Odin the exiled.5764

Not a huge fan of it myself. Specially when HoT came out since it was info overload plus doing achievements that are really hard or expensive yet you have to do them cuz there just isnt enough points is a pain. But with that said, im currently working on a 3rd account for mastery (just the basic ones) And now it feels less of a grind since i have a decent order to get them in, and just how far i really need to progress for HoT story which really isn’t that too far into them. I don’t mind it as much now, still annoying and grindy but now that we have HoT pluse LWS3 maps to work on them not so boring and tedious compares when we just had HoT

I fully expect with PoF they won’t be so boring either and will be faster to get then HoT ones were.

Also the experience for the masteries are account wide. So when you do get “stuck” with say your rev, just jump on your ranger and redo Hero Points to get some more xp. If you can join the meta events aswell they give tonnes of xp.

Also once you finish with those HoT masteries Kaltyn mentioned, I’d pop over to tyria and work on the pact masteries til you get auto loot. Gives you more freedom since loot goes straight to bag, even world boss chests. So less hassle looking for loot bags or bodies

I don’t mind the outfit, very paragon sunspear like. I’m currently wearing mine on my guard, not showing helm though. The weapon could be better but does fit into the sunspear theme of things. I personally didn’t buy the ultimate for those though. I looked at it for the gems, and that you got a char slot, the lily scroll to crafting place for free. Plus i bought the hot ultimate when it came out too. Sure they could have added a bit more to it like a free decoration too. But all in all i’d say this ultimate was better then HoT’s and PoF already seems better then HoT and we havent even played it yet.

How to unlock new elite specs???

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Odin the exiled.5764

Odin the exiled.5764

they will most likely be unlocked wtih same number of points as teh HoT ones were. So fully expect the same type of hero challenge champions that give 10 points. It should only take about 2-3 maps to fully unlock the elite spec anyways from all the hero points. I know i’ll just dive bomb each hero point with each character then map them later.

Does the new expansion include HoT

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Odin the exiled.5764

Odin the exiled.5764

My understanding when HoT came out. That buying the expansion would give you all previous content. Which would make it possible to skip expansions buying every other or just buying the last one and getting everything that came b4. Now maybe it’s just how they had it worded at the time or the way i read it.

I do hope that’s how it works though, specially for alt accounts. Would save us some money that way. Specially if the expansion stinks, like HoT does. Then you can skip those ones and buy the better ones and still get that content.

lol this reminds me when ppl use to complain about not being rezzed in the open world. It’s just a game where everyone can play the way they want. Sure you can ask nicely but doesnt mean they’re not going to do it. There are lots of hp’s to try for champs. Heck if you really wanna test and don’t wanna use a dungeon/fractal just go to dragon stand and try it on the hordes of vet’s. THere’s barelly anyone on that map if no meta is being ran. So it’d be easy to get somewhere on it pretty quick to test something with minimum chance of other’s helping. Afterall it would be better to test your build on a bunch of vets, then bunch of trash mobs.

Additions to Material Storage

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Odin the exiled.5764

Odin the exiled.5764

I agree with most of what you have on the list. What i would cut from it though is the dowel’s. Since you can craft them in multiples of 1, you should not have any extra’s compares to the patches.

The real cuts i see though are in your Rare crafting materials. The high end mystic forge stuff should not be in there, but i believe leaving in the mystic crystals and philosopher stones. Icey runestones shouldnt be in there either nor should fractal research pages.

I do feel if your going to do agony +1, then you should also do +5 and +9 but no more. I wouldnt do the augur’s stone or mystic runestone either. But yes on both vision crystals.
Amalgameted gemstones yes, but don’t really need the doubloon’s but am fine if you do.

Cooking and scrbie look good with your list and will make them more enjoyable to actually do as a profession aswell

Player skill level/class knowledge decline

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Odin the exiled.5764

I personally find the skill level is the same as when the game came out. Some will catch on fast, some won’t, some won’t even catch on even if you tell them how to play. The player base itself is very diverse, so you can’t expect them all to get better then avg. in a month or years. Perfect world sure but reality is no. Like my friend’s guild, they have an 80 year old they bring to raids. Will she ever be good to do the harder raids no. Does she die more then anyone else in it, yes. But is she and her guild mates having fun YES, they have a blast. If you really feel the player base has declined that much, then stop pugging and start solo/duo/trio things

Jumping Puzzles Suck in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Odin the exiled.5764

Odin the exiled.5764

The only jp’s i get messed up on sometimes are the special event ones. Like wintersday or Sab. Some of those snowflakes i’ve made the jump 10 times in a row, then the 11th time jumping from same spot same height i fail cuz of the invisble wall around them. Same with in sab some of those bushes you jump from have those weird invisible walls. So you’ll make it most of the time when you learn them, but once in awhile and usually when you need to you’ll hit or clip them and die lol.

Is it worth to do story multiple times ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Odin the exiled.5764

Odin the exiled.5764

Depends exactly on what you want from it and which story. Like for example with the one current meta that was added, IF you do HoT story 5 times with different characters, then you do the short mini collection to repair a sword, You’ll end up with 5 free ascended weapons. But if you just wanted those 5 skins, then you can do 1 HoT story plus the mini collection, then use unbound magic to change it to get the other skins.

I believe for silver wastes armor, you can just buy the pieces or find them, vs. running LW S2 again with other characters.

For me, i tend to try to run eveyrone’s personal story in the core game, but only 1 or 2 characters for LW and HoT story. Although for LW season 3, i just do the first part of the story to get access to those maps, then stop after that

Home instance nodes placement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Odin the exiled.5764

Odin the exiled.5764

i find the charr one the worst. Norn isnt too bad at least for today’s miner, providing you have sprocket, candy corn and quartz, since they’re right there much like in asura and human. So Illconceived exaggerates a bit on that one with frostgorge being faster lol.

I can’t speak for this jade node though, i feel those things are a huge waste of gold to get and don’t ever plan on getting them. If they were story related like when i got sprocket, candy corn or quartz requiring 0 gold and just doing achievements, then id go for them.

Personally i would love it if we could move them around in our home to how we want them, much like how you can move decorations in guild hall.

Warrior, guardian or necromancer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Odin the exiled.5764

Odin the exiled.5764

I wouldnt say warrior is boring, just they have a smaller number of buttons to press vs something like rev or engineer. They all get boring though the more you play, in fact the whole game gets boring cuz of the grind of everything and nothing ever changing.

Plus you have to look at it this way, only fractals “requires” 1 toon cuz of the ar til you have enough or rich enough to do several toons. So you could just pick say necro for fractals, your guard for dungeons and warrior for raids. Specially since you have them all geared already, that would help break up the boredom aswell.

Odin the exiled.5764

for fractals it doesnt really have to fit in, afterall chaos doesn’t. Just a mishmash of fractals, even the one mistlock blur’s things together, sure it’s to make them harder. So it would be easy for moto to go monkey with the machine.

Structure of sab is basically each world has 3 zones with the last zone having some type of boss. They have a similar theme in those zones within that world. But in reality all look different

As for the gw3 comment, obviously the xpansions to finish the dragons would come first, but they will always have a delay b4 their next thing. Much like in gw1 they made Winds of change and whatever the other one was. To tie us the players over while we waited for gw2 since they knew it would be years and was taking them longer then expected to come out and they also added in outfits for us to buy, to help pay for the development of gw2. That’s what was meant by waiting for gw3. That they’ll always make content to tie ppl over. So why not slowly but surely finish the stories they already have in the game, even if it’s just a mini game being sab. 1 zone at a time would be perfectly fine with the sab lovers.

Expand the Orders

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Odin the exiled.5764

Odin the exiled.5764

You could still have order missions regardless of which one your in i feel. Like you guys mentioned you have the trust of all 3. Therefore they can trust you with helping one of their members with a task. Much like when they first recruited, you had the option of picking the vigil way or whisper way, then next story step was like priory or vigil way. Now you don’t have to make it a story thing, but think of it more like the daily champ for itzel, exalted and the other guys. Could just be a quick instanced thing that you have to see an order rep to start. Or something similar to guild missions cept it’s the orders giving you them and could even use some of the dynamic events for it.

Oh and if they did force players to stick to the order, thereby making players play 3 toons in each order. I think most ppl have that done already as if your a skin collector you have that already for teh backpacks in hot. Plus we were FORCED to craft to 500 to make ascended gear even those that pvp 90% of the time. And i feel there would be less grumbling about the 3 toons then there was with crafting lol. Specially now with the “feels faster” story now that it’s level 10, 20, 30, etc. vs. how it was b4.

I’d always go with which one you love to play. Then after that with what content you want to play in. Or in the extreme case which legendary you want lol. I know for my one guildie, their main is the one they die less on, being a mesmer. So if your finding your dieing less on one of those 3, that can help you decide with aswell. For most of your pve needs though any of those 3 classes is fine, and should be welcomed in any group.

They have 49 weeks to create another world, so they can move 1-3 ppl over to it lol Plus like in my very first post, they could make other things with sab. Could even do a sab fractal or raid. And again they can even just do 1 zone a year for it, specially since we’re here for the long haul and will need something to do while we wait for gw3.

And to be honest who cares if they have a different team making items for gemstore vs content. Resources are resources afterall.

Odin the exiled.5764

in general yes, it’s learn the other classes and different builds to learn how to counter or when to dodge. I know for me i like reading metabattle and going over the wvw and pvp builds,. Doesnt mean i can play them like the “pros” but it does help me a little when i do face them.

They really do need to balance things better among all the classes for wvw and pvp. Like for example Berserker stance it did need the change it got years ago to what it is now but now that warrior’s get resistance aswell that is just tooo much. Specially when 99% of warrior’s use stun/dazes that have long lasting effects plus short cooldowns. They’re more tankier then a guard. Like your avg. warrior in pvp can outlast your avg. guard just becuase of those. Another one, cuz i don’t mean to be picking on warrior’s lol is the perma evade thieves or vault spammer’s, They’re so hard to catch in anything cuz of their evade’s, and need like precise timing to take them down without an army behind you lol. Don’t get me wrong though that’s what i use when i play my thief cuz those builds aren’t too hard to play lol. Can make a bad thief like me look at least slightly above avg. without really knowing how to play lol. So i feel if they actually did a better balance job like they did in gw1, wvw and pvp would be a lot more fun for more ppl.

They have plenty of time to add things to sab. It’s not like we’re asking for ALL of it to be finished in a day. Just like when it first came out, World 1 was in april, later that year in september for the back to school they made world 2. Then it’s following year i believe was trib mode. So they have no excuse not to make world 3, then following year add trib mode for it. Then world 4 the year after and trib mode for it the year after that.

Also sab played a “very small role” in season 3 of living world, so whose to say it couldnt play another role lol.

And look at it this way, they can spend their “resources” on making sab gathering tools, more mini’s, gliders. So why not spend a little bit on their festivals. Even halloween and wintersday could get a bit more love in that deptarment. Just one new thing in them would be nice. Like back in gw1, they always at least made different hats for us to collect lol.

SAB needs more love, make it available 24/7, not just for april’s fools. You brought it back for world 2 as a back to school event the one year i believe in the fall. So just make it a perm thing. Also Bring world 3 and 4 and more. Since you guys feel raids are the “place” to be then let’s get a SAB raid and trib raid too. As it is with the 1 month a year for SAB soo many players pass on it, cuz they hate jp’s and are not good at it, so they don’t wanna waste there time with this event, But if it was year round more ppl would probably try it and actually start liking it. So get cracking on it. A SAB raid is the only raid i’ll ever want to do ever

Did GW2 lose its identity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Odin the exiled.5764

Odin the exiled.5764

It’s really a tough question, since they have changed so much since the beginning, plus have had a lot of new ppl come in and some of theppl from the start have moved on or got new positions with the company. I feel in some ways it has and in others it hasnt, specially certain aspects of the games, since they wanted to make things more challenging. Like teq, shatterer and triple trouble. Changed for the better yes but….the scaling side of it for non full maps is horrible compares to where it was b4. Because to me that was part of the charm of world bosses, Any # of ppl could beat them, no need for a full map and that’s where iw ould like to see those 3 get rescaled for dead maps. That way it’s not be on a full map or you can’t do it. As for raids, not that i have done them, they have no interest for me as i do not want to play with 9 random ppl. For me where they lost the identity on them is the trinity. The game was created to have NONE, then they brought in raids to challenge players, which is good. But forcing someone to tank forcing someone to heal goes against what they set out at creation. I’d much rather see 10 of one class with any build do them, then have a trinity for them. And the difficulty as mentioned by someone above is the mechanics. Which is where it should come from, getting those mechanics down pat through practice

Is their new direction better then from the start? Sure, it’s still a great game and i think at it’s core will always be. So it may have lost some of it’s identity but it’s also gained some new ones, which as a whole still makes for a wonderful game and stil has a lot of room to improve on.

personally i feel they need to get rid of the trinity in place for the raids. Would love to see 10 of one class using whatever builds they want do a raid, just like how we used to do dungeons and fractals. That would definetly make it more appealing to me. Since if i wanted to do the trinty thing i’d just go do gw1 and use my heros and flag them in the right spots lol.

Hi, i was helping my friend with a story instance and i dc’d. There is no way for me to get back in to help with their story. They need help to do them as they die very often or just doesnt get the mechanic’s needed to be certain parts.

So please make it so if you dc in story you can still get back in, specially those that are helping!! Makes no sense that if you dc in dungeon or fractals you can come right back in, but not in story. They’re all an instance of some form, so make them all the same. Story needs it for sure as your npc’s take forever to talk, which is what stops most ppl from repeating them or doing them in the first place. Allowing dc’d players not to rejoin it just makes the experience that much more of a hassle….Must like in gw1 b4 you guys added the window to rejoin a dungeon or map and you eventually added a dc window to not lose everything you just did cuz of dc’s. Like i mentioned you have it in dungeons and fractals and probably raids, and pvp too, so why not in story???? So please fix that soon!!!!( as in next few updates cuz i know you can’t fix it asap lol)

I feel to balance out the modes, they should just increase the actual gold amount of the pvp one. They don’t have to go crazy and raise it 60g or anything though, afterall you have to wait months for the season to start, just to get 5 pieces.

The fractal one, gold cost should be lowered to make it more appealing for that kind of grind for it. It’s the only reason i won’t buy it, since it costs more then crafting it normally.

To be honest, this “change” they wanna do, just sounds more like a way to force players to do raids and get the ascended there, which i for one have 0 interest in

Personally i think id just do more fractals and get to T4 and get my ascended gear from the drops, then put up with this change. Specially since ascended gear is only marginally better then exotic lol. Just seems like a huge waste of their time to change the current system.

Upgrading my personal guild bank

It appears if your “bank guild” was created b4 HoT then you’ll have guild stash and to get deep cave and treasure trove you must get a guild hall for it and level up your guild to level 20 and 30 (something like that) for the next two upgrades

If it was created after HoT then to get a guild vault, you must spend 50g and gain 1k favor for your “bank guild” just to even start the guild bank, then you follow above with leveling to be able to unlock the next parts for more space

As for the larger guild license part, i believe that’s just to allow more members to join it which isnt really needed to gain the level’s you need to get the extra space.

Leather Farm

Personally, i don’t see why they added this. Simpler solution is just playing with the crafting tables again. All leather used to be 2 to make 1. Thick is now what 4 to make 1 and hardened 3 to make 1? They can just reset those #’s for a time, much like they did with soft wood. That used to be 2 logs per plank, then to 4, then to 3, then back to 2. In another 6 months or so watch it go back up to 3 or 4 logs per plank. They can do the same with leather. Would avoid the “need” to really farm it or spend hours to farm for minimal gain.

Decorations

I havent really gotten into the decoration stuff yet, barely work on my scribe. But i know my guildie and his wife do. I agree with you on the festival items i don’t see why they can’t be all year round. Would allow you to craft them at a slower pace so you could see what decoration gets upgraded to what at your leisure vs. getting 100 pumpkins right away then needing another 100 pumpkins right away cuz you messed up or wanted to use them in a different way.

overall though i say guild halls need more love. GW1 guild halls were a lot better imo then gw2’s. I know we’ll get there in time though like everything else in this game. ie guesting took 1 year to get, which then turned to megaservers another year later
I just don’t want to wait another 5 years for guild halls to live up to their potential lol
