As a strong advocate for bunker guard, if it isn’t good suck it up and play something else.
Its def a bit too early for rankings, but some general notes of whats strong in my opinion:
Bunker guardian, REALLY good support, condi clease, heals, rezzes, AoE quickness, stability, overall amazing at keeping people rezzed and a live and getting stomps
Signet Condition Necromancer- Right now this necro build is really good, mainly because it hardcounters every condition build in the game and it has tremendous boonhate. It will still be a bit of a niche pick that’s too positioning reliant to survive, but the burst condi application is totally there.
Random tanky warrior build- Shoutbow, Axebow, hambow whatever, I think its still good but my team doesn’t really have any warrior mains, so I haven’t experienced how effective it can be in the current meta. It might still be competitve with ele for spot.
Celestial Rifle Engineer- Honestly its a fair bit worse than it was before. Basically for celestial to be ideal on engi you need explosives, firearms, inventions, AND tools. And this is honestly quite impossible, meaning you either have to drop condition pressure from firearms, direct damage from explosives, sustain from inventions, or utility and endurance regen from tools. It still has a lot of cross-healing and CC in teamfights and good physical damage, but without the condition pressure being easy to spec for I feel that D/F ele outclasses it right now.
Meditation Guardian/Burn Guardian-both of these have great damage but poor sustain. Still very viable, but a bit outclassed and bunker guardian seems to be more useful right now. Good counter to mesmer/theif, that will probably be extremely common in the meta.
Condition Ranger- Good 1v1 build that struggles in teamfights. Spirits are gutted, traps aren’t much better, survivals are okay I guess. The settlers builds are good.
Power Ranger- Still only viable in temple/legacy. Very good damage, but not as much CC in teamfights as other classes and easier to lockdown and kill than most of the other classes on the list.
Condi Engi- Very good damage and condi burst but hardcountered by any tankier nonmesmer condi spec, but has less teamfight CC/cross heals compared to celestial engi, which suffers from poor damage right now.Fresh Air Ele- High burst, but simply outclassed by mesmer and thief due to poor sustain, mobility, and disengage.
Garbage Tier: Condi Mesmer, Phantasm Mesmer, MM necro, Bunker/sustain blood necro, zerker guardian, SD engi, Condition Ele, Condition Thief. Anything thats not running celestial, marauder, rabid/carrion, cleric (on guard only) or soldiers/sentinels. Anything else that is passable to good at 1v1s but useless in teamfights.
So… here we go. If I don’t mention one of the classes here, congratz, you actually got it right, but for the most part this is so incredibly far from the truth it hurts.
Bunker guard- Still suffers from the problems it had since day one, only good in a match where both comps are 4/5 zerker. kitten tier against condi comps.
Signet Necromancer- Again, only good in cele comps against cele/condi comps. Literally unplayable against zerker / bunker comps.
Tanky warrior build – Gone is the way of shoutbow. Warrior without rampage? Don’t want it. Only viable in bunker comps with shouts / regen banner.
Celestial Rifle Engineer- Ahahaha no. Doesn’t have Elixer X.
Meditation Guardian/Burn Guardian- Meta is shifting towards classes with endure pains. Medi guard is terrible. Burn guard still suffers from same problems that it has had since launch.
Condition Ranger- You’re right, good 1v1, but it has had a good 1v1 since Wilderness Survival, suffers from the same problems and is still unplayable.
Power Ranger- See condi ranger.
Condi engi- ehhhh I guess its okay but doesn’t have elixer X so no thanks.
Fresh Air Ele- Seems stronger but still not viable in team games because you know ,same problems it has had since fresh air was invented.
MM necro- ………. I have no words. I see a nerf coming very soon. Blood Magic is beyond OP. One of the best 1v1s in the game, also easiest class to play since the launch of the game. 10/10 on this one ANet.

Okay children, lets break this down.

For starters don’t make a “constructive” post and then do this ^^^^.
So, what are the “cures” to celestial. I think most would agree it is NOT JUST THE AMULET, sigils and runes are what make it viable.
That being said, lets look at the “meta”
Engi- Cele (Meta)
Ele- Cele (Meta)
Warrior- Cele (Meta)Despite these three builds…. almost every other class has representation in top tier
Thief- Both S/d and D/p played at top tier
Necro- Condi played at top tier (no good power necros)
Guardian- Both TCG and CM use a DPS guardian now (correct me if im wrong on this)Mesmer-recently pushed out of meta, shatter still very viable, it is able to destroy both cele eles and engis
Ranger- simply lacking, needs buffs
Your argument that celestial eles and engis are thrashing you in 1v1s is SOO invalid… your using a zerker necro that is basically made for group fights… you use wells and Lich…. which contribute far more in a team fight than elementalists and engineers….
And yes, i’m going to direct a lot of this at your team because that is your main basis of CELESTIAL OP> EVERYTHING ELSE…
You guys don’t know how to rotate. If you rotated the right people at the right time to the right place, you guys might actually have a chance of not getting 500-0ed by better players. Your mechanical skill is also not quite there, rather unfortunate, but your builds require very little brain activity and there shouldn’t be much of an issue with pressing one button on your keyboard.The bottom line is this: No build in this game is hard, at top tier just about anything can become viable when your great at it..
I will admit, celestial builds tend to have a low skill floor, but they also have a high skill cap. This game, since it wants to be esports, needs to be balanced from the top down. Currently at the top the only classes struggling are ranger and a little bit of mesmer/guard. I guarantee you, if you guys didn’t 4v5 (res warrior? srsly?) and actually knew how to rotate, you would stand a chance vs actual top teams. Your rage vs celestial amulet is simply because you are at the bottom of the skill floor in your respective classes. This makes Celestial seem overpowered to you. Well, have a good day,

First of all, this post comes from an individual that abused celestial to win a mulit thousand dollar tournament and with another one on the rise he is fighting tooth and nail to keep himself from being thrown back into the gutter.
if he changed his name to phanteram I would notice ZERO difference.
Again I have dueled him many times, played with im, and against him, and can easily say that he is as tough, if not more of a challenge than You Five Gauge.
I can give countless other examples with individuals like Sir Serveris, Thrackit, Swarles, players that haven’t been in the pvp scene too much that feel identical to go against as those people on the Abjured.
Both you and chaith are scared of something happening to cele meta, because you both NEED cele to even resemble a good player.
God, I want to keep this thread on a constructive topic, but with trolls like Chaith and Karina life is hard

Yea its even the worst zerker class besides from warrior maybe. Even at doing what they are the best ( killing zerkers) they suck now.

I haven’t played with the new patch yet, but if this is true, then the balance in the game is truly kittened.
One of the thief’s purpose was to punish bad positioning and poor reaction times. If their possible over-nerf is true, everyone can just do their damage from 1.5k range away without any thought or care to their positioning. The sad thing is, people are typically so bad at the game that they will charge the warrior on point anyway, then still complain about how they die too easily.
We have independent might stacking, people able to easily achieve 9 stacks of might for 35 second durations just by weapon-swapping and no co-ordination needed. Now we potentially don’t have to worry about our positioning. Well done.
Just a bunch of solo q’ers on the forums over reacting to everything as per usual. Move along, thief is still fine, it might not be required anymore now though? But it probably still is.

Please allow me to state the obvious: you are standing on the outside of an inside joke.

This guy is like 99% right. Thief should +1 losing situations in this example. From the information you’ve given us there is no clear right answer. But for the sake of an example lets say you have a engi watching home and a necro pushes him 1v1. Don’t wait for him to say “im losing” because he will lose no matter what 100% of the time.
Your job as a thief is to know all match ups and whos favour they are in and rotate to help people in matchups they would lose 1v1.

I actually didn’t read the whole guide but you’re missing a few things. Namely you can’t block steal with aegis because it steals the Aegis before it does anything else, just like with Stability.
Anyways, you’re missing some of the smaller things that a Guard can do for his team such as Aegising for someone when they heal, staff auto for proccing intel / phising for crits if you don’t have intel (since you can sidestep orb) and Guards rotating into 2v2s, hello? They are pretty trash at 2v2s. Unless I mean, you’re trying to run 3 points, but its still less than ideal to have a guard in a 2v2. Oh and if you do take a 2v2 it should never be with a thief and probably not with a mesmer.

2. Death shroud starts at 0 for every match, and locks a player out of their utilities, heal and elite. It also has no condition removal. I take it to never played necro?
If you are not a MM you should start a match with 22% minimum not 0.
All necros can start a match with 22%.
You can summon minions in the pre-game and change utilities in the 10 seconds before the match starts to “sac” your minions. Each one you can sac in the first 10 seconds of the match gives you 11% ds. Experienced necros usually start a match by sacing 3 minions so 33% life force.
How long ago did this happen?
Apparently the same thing happened to one of their teammates, so it was a 4v4.
I was the the guy on the other team that this happened to, can confirm.
Damage over all is MUCH higher because of strength runes and Balth runes

let the meta settle! well whatever – there are some things i noticed after the patch:
engis: obv strongest condition class now
hambows: still as strong as ever except maybe longbow #3
thieves: more vulnerable due to lyssa nerf. pw is still beeing spammed. the ini increase was a bad change to begin with.
necro: people went from dumbfire to dumbfear
guardians: didnt notice anything yet
rangers: not much either except the lower amount of hp/s with spirit elite. heard pets hit for 9k though
mesmers: got hit by a mesmer like a truck.. not sure if that’s got anything to do with the patch.
eles: not bad right now. revived my old d/d ele and been doing great in hotjoins / tdm / solo q. good sustain and healing with celestial.
did you notice any other differences? then post it please
Engis: Stronger but so is every other class, not even close to the strongest class right now imho.
Hambows: Sooooo, damage is ridiculous right now, they can maintain 25 stacks of might by themselves, over the top damage and allowed to bring banner instead of Signet. One of the best classes post patch
Thieves: Not much changed, only real nerf was the shortbow 3 spam. Patch notes said ini on PW was being increased, it never actually was and is still 5 ini. pls fix.
Necro: Strong, do less dmg but corrupt more, kind of a meh class
Guard: IDK cant find anything really stupid yet maybe dps guard comeback?
Rangers: lolpetbug
Mesmer: Beyond stupid. Maintains 15+ stacks of might, with the nerf of lyssa you can bring Moa now. iZerker was fixed and does 3-4x the damage it did before patch.
Ele: Permanent 25 stacks of might, ridiculous sustain. Probably second best class right now.
Oh, let’s also note you can evade/block/be immune to steal, and of course a blinded thief misses said steal, so “unavoidable” is false.
If you’re good enough to have a decent opinion on what is and isn’t OP then you wouldn’t be missing steals, just sayin’

Lets clear this up now before you continue to make a fool of yourself speaking about a class that you clearly don’t play.
Things that happen when you are out of LoS or blinded and steal:
-You are teleported to your target
-Thrill of the Crime procs giving you fury, swiftness and a stack of might
Things that don’t happen when you are out of LoS or blinded and steal:
- Gain vigor
- Get healed from mug
- Gain 2 initiative
- Poison
- Daze
- Deals damage
- Gain the steal ability

Honestly the cries for thief nerfs are getting over the top. We’re almost as bad as rangers with recent nerfs, and for some reason we’re seeing more QQ. Hammer warriors already counter thieves very well with the lack of stability, and a thief already loses initiative, essentially putting the skill on cooldown. The thing about initiative is that it teaches one to manage it and when you’ve run out, you’re essentially dead.
Keep constant pressure on the thief, and force him to blow his initiative. Interrupts are a part of this process, and dodging/invuln/blind also cost the full initiative of the skill. If a thief spams, he’s out of the fight and you’ve got the opportunity to get the kill. The trick to fighting thieves is through attrition, which is the entire point of initiative. If you want to make this change to thieves, you’ve got to give them access to copious amounts of stability rather than blindly nerfing them because you refuse to L2P.

Trying to defend thief in its current state is kittening stupid. We are OP, stop trying to deny it.
How are people confused by this? They already stated multiple times the 18th of march is the feature patch with balance.
List of things patch on the 18th of march includes:
- Balance changes already listed previously on the forums (not the leaked ones) with more to come
- Sigil revamp
- Runes revamp
- Ferocity stat replacing critical damage (no change in pvp)
- Increased rank points across entire pvp (no # given yet)
- Glory being removed completely from the reward system
- Rank vendors removed
- No more tournament win chests since they will award rank points at the end of the game (with this bypassing the region bug when transferring between NA & EU)
- The fix for the pvp titles where tournament points would not count towards the achievement and make progress slower than it should be. (retroactive fix)What does it not include?
- The new reward system for pvp because that comes at a later stage
- The ability to copy your pvp look into pve/WvWThis is as far as my knowledge goes what that big feature patch entails. It’s not a new PvE storyline, it’s QoL update.
Boy are you gonna be disappointed come March.

Curie spams 1 harder than any other spirit ranger I’ve met. +1
Fought several matches today where the enemy team was any variation of:
decap engi
pistol whip thief
minion master
Caed
zerk offpoint staff ele
hambowand nothing else
and my teams can never handle them… it’s making me want to take a long break and wait for a new game type/meta x_x

decap engi – Thief counters it!
pistol whip thief – Thief or Engi!
minion master – Hambow!
Caed – Tron Jeremy hard counters.
zerk offpoint staff ele – Anything!
hambow – Thief.
Good idea, lets nerf all dagger thieves in sPvP so everyone has play the very skillful S/X builds.
Naw brah naww. Even before they were broken warrior was easy to play. The only difference was before if you in general knew what you were doing in pvp you would be fine. Now of course you can just smash your keyboard and be effective.
I believe you didn’t play one before buffs. Being effective in a tournament with a warrior wasn’t easy, they were extremely limited.
