I had no problem pugging this dung.
Huhuh. You said dung.
OP still needs ~70 thieves to respond
Fake. Too many typos, and the use of “Vuln” rather than “Vulnerability” in the Thief notes.
@TogoChubb & Liquid: Thanks. (gross. That sucks for those with extremely high ranks.)
Rank 103 now…actually, pretty awesome getting 2 chests now.Im betting there are people with far far higher ranks since i havent played much for 2 weeks. But,all in all..im still glad they are starting to give out some proper rewards now.
Yeah, I agree it’s nice to be getting rewards. Of course, you’ll be 206 before you clear your backlog

I know the patch just rolled out, but I don’t see any chests in mail, bags, etc. Anyone know how we’ll be getting them?
Was I seriously suppose to infer from the keyword “Unique” that I could only equip one?
Yes.
u·nique [yoo-neek]
adjective
1. existing as the only one or as the sole example; single; solitary in type or characteristics: a unique copy of an ancient manuscript.
2. having no like or equal; unparalleled; incomparable: Bach was unique in his handling of counterpoint.
3. limited in occurrence to a given class, situation, or area: a species unique to Australia.
4. limited to a single outcome or result; without alternative possibilities: Certain types of problems have unique solutions.
5. not typical; unusual: She has a very unique smile.
Honestly, not even WoW holds players’ hands on this one.

Copy gw2.dat from Mac, DL'ing 250k files?

Yeah, me neither. I just let it go ahead and download all 250k files. Yay for downloaing the exact same files all over again. :P

Yes. The steps I followed:
Doanloaded client and installed. When the client began downloading the gw2.dat file (s), I cancelled the installation then copied my gw2.dat. On launching, GW2 began “repairing data archive,” eventually dumping me out to the login screen and beginning to download (it says) 200k+ files.

Well, the .dat file can be moved between platforms since it’s basically a PC-compatible file and the Mac client just “wraps” it in a PC shell to run. That said, I tried loading up an older PC install I had backed up and have run into the exact same issue. It appears GW2 is insisting on downloading the entire thing from scratch. Wish I could figure out why. If I copy either gw2.dat (including the old PC file) to my Mac, things run fine.

Finally decided to reinstall Windows via Boot Camp since the framerate for the Mac beta client for GW2 is so terrible. I hadn’t run GW2 on the PC side in over 6 months, so I decided to just copy the gw2.dat file from my updated Mac client. As far as I know, there’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to do this, but once I got finished copying, GW2 ran through a sort of file verification procedure, then resorting to downloading well over 250k files. I’ve killed the update ankittenrying a recopy, but I thought I’d post here to see if there’s something I’m missing in all this.
Thanks in advance.
I’m posting here not as a whine, but to get so real input from the community. I’ve been away from GW2 for 6-8 months and, upon returning, am remembering this is really an excellent MMO. At the same time, i also realize I don’t have much of a clue about what to do, aside from completing maps and running after dynamic events. When I played at launch, I tried a dungeon or two, but my rear end kicked, so that was a “one and done” type of thing (I know, I know. I should have stuck with it). Anyway, now that I’m hoping to play with some regularity, I wonder if some of you could point me what keeps you coming back to the game each day/week, etc.
Here’s where I stand so far:
80 Norn Guardian
75% map completion (so I’m keeping after that).
Full exotic gear
62k karma with no idea where to spend it
2 laurels (:D)
1g
Annnnnd… that’s it.
Any tips are appreciated. And while I’m open to any and all suggestions, I think I might help some narrow it down by saying that in the MMO-that-shall-not-be-named, what kept me coming back was raiding. (Feel free to interpret that however you wish)
Great! Thanks Niyo
Ahhhhh. OK, that I did not do. I read whatever dialog was there in the pop-up, and then moved on to whatever was happening nearby. I’ll keep an eye on filler dialog in the future. Thanks for the tip.
As for being intrigued, I agree with you there. I guess the point of this post could be boiled down to “did I miss a ‘quest,’ or have done all I can and I know eagerly await next month’s story?”
Edit to add: Looks like it’s the latter.

@WatchTheShwo, thanks for the summary. It helps to have a broader sense of the story.
@PixelPumpkin, I read the conversations from the 5 NPCs I had to speak to, but we’re talking maybe a grand total of two paragraphs of dialog. I did get the sense of the basic outlines of a story, but when I got to Levvi, it was “get me samples,” and after doing that, the only dialog was the same one that started me getting samples. So I know about the tension on Pearl Islet, that Southsun is a dangerous place, and that Levvi thinks the plants are becoming hostile. That’s it. Not exactly a complete story, right?
@Mathog, thanks. That helps. I’ll just consider this part of the story to have been a “strange things are afoot” breadcrumb, with more to come later.
lol. Well, at least I’m not the only one.
To preface, I’ve been away from GW2 for 6-8 months, so I really don’t have a firm grasp on the whole “living story” concept. So with that in mind…
Are we actually supposed to be uncovering a story here? I’ve done the basic stuff to get the “Southsun Stalwart” achievement, and all I know is that there’s something that’s making people cranky, and that the Consortium has offloaded refugees here (actually, that last came from a bit of Googling last night to find out what was going on). Beyond that, I really don’t know that I have much of a story uncovered.
Mind you, I’m not saying the meta-event is dull. Quite the contrary! I’m enjoying running from dynamic event to dynamic event, killing stuff here, getting karma there, and regularly noticing how different GW2 and WoW the MMO-that-shall-not-be-named are. But I can’t help but ask myself, after having found all 11 samples and still having that “strange things are afoot at the Circle K Southsun Cove” ‘quest’ at the upper right of the screen, if I’ve missed something.
So, tl;dr, is there an actual story we’re uncovering here? Or is this just one big (fun) breadcrumb event?
OK, great. Thanks for the tips/
Thanks to you both for helpful replies. I know GW2 isn’t really about an endgame grind (and I do confess to liking those), but on my first pass, it felt like endgame amounted to basically “going back” to what I’d done before, and very little “moving forward” (even if it was horizontal movement rather than vertical). It sounds to me like the game has been fleshed out a bit more, so that’s good.
If I could ask one more question: I currently have 14g (lol) and could but a full set of exotic armor. Is that something I should do? Or do I stick with my “yellow” armor and wait for the exotics as I play endgame. It seemed to me it was quite a grind in the beginning months for exotic gear, so I wonder if that’s eased up or not.
Bought GW2 pre-launch and enjoyed the path to 80. After a few weeks, however, the relative lack of endgame started to bore on me (I could only do the same event so many times in a week before my eyes started bleeding). I returned to “that other MMO” and had a good time with “the Trinity” and all, but it’s starting to wear on me (guild dynamics, etc). I’m thinking about returning to GW2, but since I’ve been away from 6-8 months, I honestly have no clue how things have evolved (not story, but gameplay). I’ve more or less forgotten what build I was working on at the time, but do know I was sick of Orr. A few basics on me…
80 Norn Guardian w/ level-below-exotic gear (but exotic weaps), 40k karma, no “laurels,” in need of guild, etc.
So, to “tl;dr” this…
Has GW2 improved from a gameplay perspective (I know this will bring a variety of responses), and what would you do if you returned as a guardian?

The devs don’t read this forum, according to the support email system.
Which begs the question of why it’s even here.
becaue of comments like this:
vince.5937:Have you deleted the Application Support folder?
which lead to responses like this:

What the title says. This would obviously save a significant chunk of downloading time.

Look is not a carrot.
Sure it is. It’s just not a carrot for you. There are many people who will be satisfied with a cooler “look.” Of course, there are others who won’t be. The question will be whether ANet can satisfy the broad range of players’ tastes. If they can’t, GW2 will not do well. If they can, it will take off much like another MMO did many years ago. If all they supply is a better look, many will be disappointed and stop playing. If they find other ways to satisay players (engaging story, game play, etc), they’ll keep people coming back.
For my part, I’m only so-so on “look.” There will have to be other components (so far, exploring has been fun, though the rewards at 80 are disappointing).
You are supposed to have a “carrot” in RL, in a game you have Fun ( I know it is a forgotten concept for many´)
Logical fallacy, as “fun” would operate as a “carrot” in this example. It is a proven concept that humans tend not to do things for which there is no reward. In many games, the reward (i.e. “fun”) is winning (“I know it is a forgotten concept for many”). In a game such as GW2, with no way to “win,” other types of rewards then need to fill the gap. Whether ANet’s version of rewards (armor skins, etc) will suffice remains to be seen.
