I still do not understand why a guardian would use a gs.
I use Greatsword because they look awesome – they are huge and easily noticed
Guardians use GS to pull enemies, Symbol of Wrath, Conditional Removal and Blinding. Plus it does good damage

WvW: A little less people in general for the pass 2-3 weeks. However this is due to the matchup and the invasion. Most wont go fighting an uphill war when you get to farm champions =P
PvE: I see a lot more farme… I mean players in general. This however is not conclusive as less are doing fotm, dungeons, wvw, etc. But I do see a few new players who decided to stay after the free trail.
Yes, stop rewarding failure. Stop rewarding exploits.
In dungeons, you wont get the token rewards if you fail, thus people want to succeed. Spawning an obscene amount of champions that make the end reward pathetic in comparison is like rewarding 20 dungeon tokens for killing the 1st dungeon boss and 40 for completing the dungeon. Nobody would bother completing the dungeon.
I’m actually a bit ‘worried’ about China. Just look at the trailer they had and the # of views – they only have 44K in a month. That’s a really, really low number.
But then again, I don’t even know if the Chinese use youtube as their main video site. They don’t even use twitter or google.
No, I dont think they can view YouTube in China.
In China they use www.tudou.com. The game is still in close beta there I think and according to tudou.com, the GW2 chinese trailer has about 150,000 view in 2 weeks.
We’ll see
If ArenaNet wants to make more money or wants to fund “large scale development”, they can do so in the form of an expansion. Get extra funding via pre-order.
The future of Guild Wars 2 =) I think currently it lies within China. If I were ArenaNet, I would be working my behind off to get the game launch and launch right in China. If this game takes off in China… well 3 mil sales is nothing for a country with like… 1.4billion people?
Or simply make “zergy” content not as rewarding as more skill-oriented content, thus eliminating the “zerg farm” culture GW2 currently possesses.
Imo, there is no “zergy” content and classifying players as “zerg” or “skillful” or “hardcore” is fundamentally wrong and discriminating.
Currently content scales to a maximum difficulty after X amount of player show up. When that X amount of player is exceeded by 10x, the content becomes easy as mobs melt away.
Now an “over crowded” system will – decrease player in the zerg based on how huge the zerg is, ie: if a content reaches its maximum difficulty when 10 players show up and there are 50 players doing that event, each player will operate at 20% effectiveness (deal 80% less damage). Then it take time to kill the champion/mob regardless of number of players. Effectively eliminating the appeal of “zerg”.
i don’t see any real cure for zergs when damage > all. what kind of content were you thinking of
Zerg is that hard to fix imo… simply implement a “over crowded” system that decreases player effectiveness when too many players are in close proximity; they do less damage, misses attack and take more damage due to all the chaos.
=)
wow, we sux bad XD
- 23million caravans destroyed (by players)
- 20million players killed by Risen Thrall
If we examine the basic components of any game, we will notice that they share many similarities with other games. That however is not how one judge if a game is “innovative” or not.
Similar to baking a cake. The basic ingredients are mostly the same, sugar, butter, flour, eggs, etc. It is the mixture that makes that makes them unique. A simple change to the proportion often yield greatly different results.
IMO, the mixture of GW2 is innovative as a whole. The individual components, the basic ingredients not so much. This innovation yielded a game that plays and feels quite different than other MMO while other MMO plays and feels more similar to one another. Is this special mix a good one or a bad one? That depends on individual player.
p/s: Airships… awww. My guild in DDO (Dungeons and Dragons Online) had one. Brings back memories.
As for the whole Trinity thing… that I have to say is poorly done. It does not take a rocket scientist to realize that (assuming that the formulas in the wiki are somewhat accurate): 2000 armor basically reduces damage by 50%, 3000 armor reduces damage by 67% and 4000 armor reduces damage by 75%.
Berserker gear on the other hand increases critical damage by about 60% (Armor set + Ascended).
At level 80, everyone will have 2000 Armor. I dunno if one can get 4000 armor but who is crazy enough to pick 25% more damage reduction over 60% increase in critical damage? Also, to get 4000 armor, I believe that traits and runes must all be taken into account. 60% Critical damage on the other hand is simply vanilla berserker armor and ascended.
Due to this fundamental flaw in the core of the design – the old trinity is not entirely abandoned, they simply remove tank and healer. Control and Support are basically skills that root the enemy in place to receive the dps.
They are planning to launch GW2 in China soon… why would they want to sell GW2 cheap now?
=)
Ultimately, if Anet gets fed up – they will implement a strictly no trading between player policy – all trade goes through trading post.
Nope, cant send items or gold to any user via mail. That should solve everything, including gold sellers.
Hrmf…. not a bad idea come to think of it.
Books Reading books. Books like those in Elder Scroll.
- While waiting for the next invasion, I can read a book.
- While waiting for party members to get to the dungeon, I can read a book.
- Books makes better collectibles than say… useless Minis, Balloons, Kites, etc.
- Can sell special inventory tag for books that I want to carry around with me.
:)
When with a group of experience players. Most dungeons are fairly easy.
When showing a group of new people into a dungeon for the first time, well, it can be very challenging.
The downsides are:
ArenaNet should not waste their time to entertain (mainly) people who are selfish and mean to new players. These people are a minority and they will not be missed.
Yes, because I proposed templates so I can discriminate PUGs, and only because of that. Oh wait, I don’t PUG, because PUGs are trash.
My point exactly.
If you dont PUG or dont have the patience to help pugs/newbs, you are obviously running with a close group. I am sure you have no problem getting “builds” from them.
Since PUGs are all trash, why would you want to contaminate your eyes beholding trash builds?
Again, this feature has zero value and should only be coded when they have finish every other useful feature imaginable.
Like I said: pingeable templates like in GW1, and that way, everyone is satisfied.
The people that want inspect can ask the people in their team to ping their build and inspect it. You can already ping gear, so that’s not hard to inspect either. With MF going away, it’s not like people will lie about their gear in an effort to leech, so that’s a worry less.
The carebears on here that don’t want naughty elitists to look at their gear/build can decline the request of pinging their setup, and the party can choose to react to that as they please.
The benefits of templates:
- Share builds easily
- Load up builds easily instead of all the manual bull****
- Can serve as a form of voluntary inspect
- Can be used to ping internet links like in GW1
- Has absolutely not a single downside what so ever
The downsides are:
ArenaNet should not waste their time to entertain (mainly) people who are selfish and mean to new players. These people are a minority and they will not be missed.
ArenaNet should spend their time coding USEFUL features like 1st Person View, MouseLook Mode, Buy multiple items, Submit multiple quest items, fix bugs, fix glitches, etc.
Share build? Who are you trying to kid. Everyone knows the “best” build.
NO! NO! NO!
I dont like peeping tom. I dont like busy bodies, delusional egoistic ooze to look at my equipment and TRAITS?? Without my PERMISSION?? When they are bored??
Ever heard of privacy?
If you want to know, ask. If you suspect they are not telling the truth, observe.

“In 2012 research , Taiwanese player ( including PC, TV ,and mobile games ) from thirteen to sixty-five years old sum up as 750 million people ,and online-game players average at 250 million”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan
Population:
2013 estimate: more than 23,340,136 the population density is about 645.15 per km2Hmm, so if the population is 23 millions, how can it be 750 millions gamers ?
A fairly common mistake. 750 million here most likely mean 750,0000; which is actually 7.5 million.
Hmm then rolling and dodging will make the camera spin like Mirrors edge….hmm…i guess after two hours almost all over NA and EU everyone will be puking!
No, they dont need to polish it to do all that, that is not what I am asking or expecting. And it is not for combat, just exploring tight places and while doing puzzles. They dont have to stick the camera to the character’s eyeball or something. >.<
it was in beta if i recall wasnt it?
I believe there is but it maybe unpolished – something like moving the camera into your toon’s head and not render your toon all.
(It can be seen in http://www.twitch.tv/pcgamer/b/320044809 Time Mark 3:18)
I would be happy with that – really. Because I wont be fighting or doing anything fancy in 1st person, I just want to be able to navigate better in tight places.
Everytime I do a puzzle and get stuck in tight places with an that awful camera view, I ask this question. Why? Why? Why?
I am not asking for a “functional” 1st Person View like that in the upcoming Elder Scroll Online. I simply want a 1st Person View to explore and navigate tight spots when exploring the world and doing puzzles.
Is there any reason why ArenaNet would not give us this most simple yet most useful feature that requires minimum effort of their part? Do they simply enjoy torturing us…. torturing me?
That’s a pretty hefty claim for something that’s been asked for since first beta. I’d wager it’s a bit more difficult than you’d think.
People are indeed waiting for it but please don’t say such silly things. It makes you look rather uninformed. It’s probably on the list of Quality of Life improvements that are steadily getting into the game now.
And your comment sir marks you as totally uninformed because obviously you have no idea whatsoever about the technical “difficulty” involve in moving viewports.
Am I asking for a polished 1st person view? No. I am not. Just a simple/unpolished 1st person view would be infinitely better than what is currently being offered.

think you should be posting this in gw2lfg.com =P
Maybe everyone is busy farming champions lately but I am sure gw2lfg gets the job done. Or you can bug your guildies to run the dungeon with you, I am sure they wont be cruel enough to ignore you for too long, right? That’s what guilds are for
I was just walking around in the borderlands trying to get map completion! Then a thief from no where blinded me and stab me repeatedly and bleed me dry!!
I didnt even go to territories controlled by da enemy, I was just walking around portion of the map that my server controls!
So no, killing me does not assist your server because me being there actually take up a spot that may no longer be available to someone else who really wants to WvW! You are actually doing ma server a service cos I ran back to LA sulking and heartbroken.
=P
Ahahaha that thief did his job well.. Lets face it, thief is the easiest, most gimmicky, cheesiest class this game has to offer for wvw.
If a thief cant win a fight (determined in first 10seconds of contact) they stealth and run away.
If a thief is going to win, also decided in the first 10seconds. You can try to justify thieves all you want but it comes down to the simple fact of being able to break combat easily, stealthing at near 50% hp and popping back at full. Lets not forget the damage either.
2222222 STEALTH
I am not trying to “justify” anything. Thief does have its own advantage but so do other classes. True, a duel between a thief and another class usually ends up with the thief being victorious or the thief escaping but that is a duel and the thief gets preemptive strike.
Play a thief. Yes, you may still have trouble killing a thief who ambush you but I promise that your chances of survival will be greatly increased.
Also, in low participation server, the thief is the best class to roam solo, avoiding zerks, scouting and disrupting the enemy. When I have a zerk to follow around, I usually wont play my thief.

That is like saying, those darn thief can always shadow step/return – stealth (150% speed in stealth) + remove condition + regen in stealth and when I get hit buy a thief, I either get kill or they run away and reset the fight for another attempt – WIMP THEM!!!
Warriors are not “FAST” they are “mobile” – there is a HUGE difference between fast and mobile. Warriors can rush, whirl and leap away from combat but that is about it.
@Parn, there’s a mod for that lock mouselook
:) Yeah I know. But ANet should do it themselves. Many arent comfortable using mods because there is a risk, however unjustified and small it maybe that you can get ban from using mods…
ANet, get off yer lazy behind and fix the mouselook mode and camera angle (just give us a 1st person view to toggle in those tight spots) and many will be very happy.
1. Excessive mouse pressing.
My finger really hurts for holding the the right button for hours. How hard is it to allow us to toggle a mouselook mode.
2. Bad camera angle part of the “challenge”
Just give us 1st Person View so that we can better navigate in tight places.
Friend and I roll a level 1 character and plan to level them to level 80 in WvW only. Thus far, I think that the scaling is fine. I am level 22 now and I have more than 200 kills.
I just know that I cant fight 1v1 because I do not have all my traits and skills. I dont drop dead if others attack me either. Since low level characters are “weaker”, attacking from range and only move into melee when things are going my way.
Tis fun really XD
Awesome – the grind gives me shudders.
If I stay PVE what’s the end game like now? Is it still a case of rolling a new char because there’s nothing to do?
End game is definitely different from traditional MMO. You grind for skins to make yourself look good basically but there is no “endgame gear” so to speak and there are many ways to get endgame gear.
You can level to level 80 without actually exploring most of the world, so rolling a new character and play in different maps does provide some fresh experience but that too will run out in due time.
Find a good guild, it will enhance your experience.
Edit:
Oh yeah. One of the major differences in GW2 is that there is no healer and tanker. Healing is for emergency only and defense only allow you to take 1~2 more hits in general. So you have to get use to avoid taking damage.
(edited by ParnAshwind.4823)
I sometimes… use infiltrator’s strike on the ground behind something (choose a specific spot to recall basically), then use steal to close in, attack and shadow return if needs be.
Spots I choose to mark for recall usually wont be within the line of sight of my intended target.
Maybe..
Most players are usually running around the human starting area – Queensdale because it is the “easiest” map to do many things.
So, if you are new, it would not be a bad idea to start as a human first.
Hope you enjoy yourself.
There are no armor skins exclusive to spvp. It amuses me to see people write elaborate analogies between wvw and spvp when they havent got a clue what the other game format does or doesnt have.
So, -1 for not even knowing what you are talking about.
Really? Find me my Commando Armor pls.
Apparently you can find it in the story missions http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Commando_armor
I stand corrected – obviously I have not been doing my personal story.
What about Stalwart armor?

Wow, it seems that GW2 is doing a perfect job to allow players to play the game as they like.
I mean what other game will let you do all that and still not fall behind players who play for more hours?
Some people play because they enjoy the experience, others force themselves to play because missing out on anything is simply unacceptable. If I play like OP…. 45 min would be like an eternity X(
can we have a shiny ascended backpiece for wvwers, Anet? one that doesn’t require us to grind fractals. you can even make it expensive, like 3k badges? 5k? 10k?!? as long as we don’t need to leave wvw to get it.
like, I dunno…a cape! a cape would be nice.
+1000
drool Cape with maybe Server Logo on them – that would be awesome XD
why isnt there armor skin that is exclusive to WvW?
WvW is the unwanted, deformed pretender, born out of marriage in the royal family of GW2. sPvP is the pretty, shiny royal heir and ANEt is its Lord Protector. Do you know now why the latter gets all the things and the former is locked in the tower, dressed in rags and living on bread crumbs the rats bring?
Think Cinderella
I like to think that players from China will like WvW more so =P
That would be like playing poker with all your cards exposed…
So, people will have god scouts posted at every point and use some chat program to relay that information to their Commander friends. This will absolutely kill WvW.
There are armor skins exclusive to sPvP, why isnt there armor skin that is exclusive to WvW? That would also attract more people to go to WvW.

Guild Wars 2 is the most grindy MMO you have ever played!? Please recommend some of the more casual ones for me.
lol everything of value in this game costs 250 of rare X, 500 of rare Y, 1 of rare Z (bought with 200 of rare A).
just because the grind is optional doesnt mean there isnt grind. And considering the entire game is a cosmetic fluff collection game, and it all costs rare items you need to GRIND events, dungeons, etc for… ya thats grind. big grind.
Answer me this.. what goals or game activities do you do that arent attached to a currency grind, hmmm?
ya, thats what I thought. nothing.
Well, since I like less flamboyant equipment, I really cant find any reason to “grind” really.
Sometimes I do events, sometimes I do dungeons just for the fun of it. Otherwise, I pretty like running around in WvW with no particular goal in mind.
I sure hope ArenaNet can someday come up with equipment that I like so that I have a reason to grind =P
edit:
Try playing Korean made games. Now that is GRIND; I kill 50-100 mobs every minute there and I have to kill 1000 mobs to get a piece of drop that I need 20-50 pieces of…
(edited by ParnAshwind.4823)
Ranger is da best archer imo.
To me, Ranger is like a cross between Warrior and Thief with superior archery skill and they have decent melee capability too. And you will not feel lonely ever because Teddy is always there for ya.
Classes are not meant to be perfectly balanced and play style actually contributes greatly to the survival rate of every class.
Myself for example… my Guardian… dies a lot… more than my Thief, Ranger, Warrior >.<" I simply cant connect with my Guardian because I like fast characters.

+1
Please give us 1st Person Mode. This is not what players desire or want, this is what players NEED, I —N E E D-- 1st Person Mode to explore. I do not mind that I cant fight in 1st Person Mode even but I —N E E D-- it.
The current camera simply does not work in tight places. Unless those odd and broken camera angles is part of the game design to add more “difficultly” to the game, we really —NEED-- a 1st Person Mode.
Thanks.
Unless they have a friend standing there; who could have called it out in your stead. How would they know who started the event?
And if the troll actually died before they waypoint there, it means that there is a sizable group around. In which case, it does not matter if you called it or not because they wont get there in time.
Me? I will call it out but I will not wait. Soloing the Troll (and other Champions) is fun, if the troll dies before someone gets there, well the Troll always dies before everyone gets there anyways so too bad – try again in a few, the Troll spawns very fast.
If a zerk cannot reach their target fast enough everytime, they have only their awful zerking skill to blame =P
Quaggan will be added as a playable race.
New Engineer Skill:
Spray Paint Turret – Outlines all character even stealth ones.
Super Glue Turret – Sticky field to prevent Shadow Return.
XD
As for blind, ah well, it doesnt work when the enemy attacks you rapidly because target is only blinded once a second.
ps: Seriously though, whatever ANet do, DO NOT TOUCH Stealth/Shadow Step/Blind in PVE!
I would “like” GW2 if I trust FB enough to create an account there =P
China’s trailer is more aggressive and promotes WAR!!!!
I think they will reinvent “zerk” in WvW =D
