i hope its not the future but its gone on so long and the new zone is so similar ive given up hope.

i check in from time to and these forums assure me that its not a game i want to be involved with anymore, so its all good

if it does change i hope they send me an email saying something about going back to the core vision, other wise, if i want a game with raids, big world quest zones, amazing lore, tons and tons of people playing well, one just launched not 12 hours ago

i can appreciate your offer but im not looking to learn how to have fun

core gw2 was fun for me, hot isnt
taking lessons isnt going to change that, or maybe it will but

its 2016, theres a new game out every hour. i dont need lessons for them.
and youre right no one knows the numbers but anet, i just hope they did their research

Your loss then. HoT has made this game better in many ways.

You can’t see that and that’s fine. But it’s a lot better than it was for me before HoT came out.

thats just it though its not my loss
if im having fun somewhere else instead of banging my head on a board
i win
its a non essential entertainment product

its not your loss either if i walk away, as long as your guild is active enough to fill groups you lose nothing

Anet however, as a business, loses money. which is why i said i hope they know their demographic. a switch that huge can be risky, and id hate to see another beloved IP squandered on a risky business decisions

im sitting here thinking how to respond and realize i just dont care anymore. watever combination of things HoT brought i didnt like, it made it worse than hating it.
hate requires passion
i just honestly dont care, im sorry i posted, i keep checking in here to see if things are going to change but all i read is LS later, only addition is raids, legendaries canceled

maybe its time i stop checkin in at all

sorry for posting, take care

It’s not wrong to dislike something but defending someone else disliking it for a very specific reason is quite different. You aren’t always on the same side as someone just because something brings up the same emotion in you.

HoT made the game better for a lot of people, possibly more people than it made it worse for. People don’t seem to acknowledge this even though almost 50% of the posts say that. And more people will always tend to complain than compliment.

There are a lot of threads started by people who are negative on the game, but if you count the number of posts that say yea or nay it’s not that clear a majority.

I have a couple of people in my guild who don’t like HoT but they’re a very small minority when compared to the people who like it. That’s not to say each person who likes HOT likes everything about HoT.

The problem here is that knowing what the problems are that most people have is definitely more important than just knowing some people have nameless problems.

well to explain my feelings

i started GW when WoD was launched for wow, it was bad, i needed the anti wow

that was GW2, easy pace, solo friendly, no raids, no trinity, heck you could pick flowers to max level.

than hot dropped and i wondered what happened, we got raids, basically rep grinds in masteries, power creep in elite specs, raid only gear upgrades in legendary armour

and then Legion info starts dropping, relevenent areas because of level scaling, world quests brings people together, alternate gear paths to raids.

and im just confused, the game i left wow for became more wow like as wow came more gw2 like

and i guess it just bred apathy, so isntead of hopping around mmos im kickin it with Geralt in the witcher.

I feel bad for anet they put all this design into HoT and then had to redo that design to balance it out (delaying upcoming content even more). Anet needs to focus on getting things done right the first time. Look at those mini adventures in HoT and how poorly that was done. Guild halls are almost pointless.

You are correct. Completely correct.

Unfortunately, ANet doesn’t bother asking their player base honestly what they want. They decide what they want to give us, and then test the waters, with a tiny subset of what they’re thinking, to see who screams.

Worse, the “waters” they test against are almost universally hardcore players (Reddit users and to a lesser degree, forum participants). So, a tiny percentage of extremely vocal players get their way. Why are they surprised when it fails miserably?

If they really want to do it right, they need to survey a statistically-valid randomly-chosen portion of their entire player base. They need the survey to include EVERYTHING they are thinking about doing.

NOTE: The survey could be skewed towards people who spend more money on the game. It doesn’t have to be a completely random list.

If they had done that, they would have learned a year before HoT released how badly their designs were going to be welcomed. Maybe even longer. Certainly in time to avoid publishing the worst of the features.

You keep saying Anet doesn’t ask players what they want. Anet has some idea of what some players want. That’s what forums do. Anet does have people that read forums.

The problem is you still insist your demographic is some sort of majority and I not only believe it’s not a majority, I believe it’s a very small but extremely loud minority.

Saying Anet doesn’t ask us what we want is silly because we know for a fact that a lot of the stuff HOT gave us, some people asked for.

The recent in game population and the fact this this thread sat at the top of the forum for 4 hours without moving leads me to believe maybe people who werent happy arent just a tiny minority, but theyve already left.

To answer the question in the thread title, i dont want to. I played GW2 because it wasnt WoW or wildstar. We got rep grinds (masteries) and raids and hard open world content. So why dont i put my nose to the grindstone and do it? Because those are the exact reasons i left other games. And guess what? its 2016, a new game comes out literally (hate using that but its true here) every day. I cant keep up with awesome news games so my question, is why bother doing something i dont enjoy when there are so many options? Gw2 wants to go this route, more power to them, ill keep my eye on the forums while playing other games. Me, the defenders of the new direction, really dont lose anything. Anet does though. Money.

Its like he said, mobs are easy as long as you avoid them. Epic journey where you fight powerful monsters and come out victorious you ask? Sorry you cant have that in the jungle, you gotta run for your life there. HoT in a nutshell, move with the players zerg or hide in the bushes… just make sure there isnt a frog waiting for you there.

Only if you are kittenty at games. In most cases you just can kill the enemies easily. Especially as a reaper. It’s so faceroll, and what the kitten read I about soldier gear on reaper?

That’s why I love my soldier reaper build. I just charge into overwhelming odds and then kill everything. Although I am slower at it than all the leet glass builds.

LOL you already have a kittenload of HP and survivability on reaper. Anything else than zerker (or viper’s/sinister as condi) gear on a necro is completely out of whack! Only a half braindead-zombie would need that.

Im really glad to see how catering to a more hardcore oriented audience has improved the community. Bravo slowclap. Best community in an MMO eh? Right up until HoT was released i guess.

Still like the game. loathe every HoT brought BUT elite spec. HP grind, masteries, HoT maps, PVP changes, lack of love for WvW, gated gear, raid only gear, raids ect ect.

Ive been gone most of hot, came back for tyria gliding thinking ok i paid 100 bucks for elite specs and gliding not a TOTAL rip off. Then i had to unlock my 3rd spekitten

il A-Net officially says they are done with this new direction and going back to what made GW2 different, im done spending money.

Masteries are reputations. Raids are raids.

If i wanted either i would have stayed with world of warcraft.

Ok im going to ask because i HAVE to be doing something wrong theres now ay this is right.

Ive been back 5 days, ive done 5 succesful hot metas. im actually going backwards in progress.
im down a ton of gold from buying salvage kits, ive gained 12ish points in each of my professions and thats it. i cant make gold coz i have to save the mats for crafting, but im running into brick walls on certain mats i cant get around. i cant buy those mats, coz im losing gold salvaging gear to get the other mats.

please, what am i doing wrong? do i really have to go back to SW trains?

So i quit a few weeks into hot coz i didnt like the expansion. Gave it some time, tried again and i will say my opinion did softer on some things.

Meta events are fun, HoT still sucks solo but getting into a good map is a blast.

I still really enjoy the elite specs, and its much easier to unlock with the 250 points.

But it just doesnt feel worth it. Im no stranger to putting effort into games but some of this stuff is crazy. 20 flax for 1 oil? and each plant drops 1 or 2? Not to mention how hellish it is running through hot maps off meta time solo with all the cc.

In genereal this is right but you can actually bypass most mobs. Given that you name it together with flax, though, is strange. The first flax farm can be reached easily (if the WP is uncontested, it’s even easier) and the second flax farm is only a “problem” at certain times of the day when the “ante chamber” is guarded by mordrem. Since these will not follow you very far, though, you can run through there but you’ll need a well timed dodge to come out of it unharmed. If you have no gap closers (blink, teleport, GS 4 sword 2 on warrior, etc.) you can battle them – LoS pulling works wonders to bunch them up nicely.

the grind from 450 to 500 crafting. 5 plated dowls for 1 inscription? i did a full SW event, broke down everything and picked up every ancient tree i saw, i got 6 logs.

That’s not changed from before HoT – what changed were the insignia with leather being required now. There’s TONS of ancient trees in the HoT maps – just harvest them. Get a high mobility class (or one with stealth) and putting the axe to them is a breeze. I was always short on ancient logs myself but since HoT I have 300+ in the bank and I redid a lot of exotic weapons which needed them for inscriptions and the weapons themselves. Recycling rate of wood is indeed meh – therefore … kill the trees.

gating, toxic bacon. for real? 1 HP gated by TWO masteries? poison and adrenal? like is that needed.

You’re talking about the HP where you eat the stuff and have to survive a given time? Adrenal is not needed for that unless they changed that. Mango pie saw me through that one on all characters – you just have to be smart when you hit your heal skill.

thanks for the info but i think ima walk away for a while again. BnS, BDO, legion, possibly camelot unchained this year. i know i know its not all about the rewards its the journey, but ive lost sight of the carrot entirely it feels like.

It just doesnt feel worth it.

bah maybe im just old, maybe the game changed but where is the incentive ?
cool costumes? no, they only added what 4? and how many new cash shop costumes in the month after HoT (that cost 50 bucks btw)

doing the math, it would take vastly less time earn the money at a IRL job to buy gold to buy mats off AH than it would to play the game and get the same results. is that intended?

People unwilling to adapt

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Pezz.4758

In general the expectation is that products be designed and adapted to meet the needs and desires of consumers, not the other way around.

That might be true for a kickstarter project. HoT however is not a kickstarter project.

Besides, you can’t please everyone.

What is wrong with today’s world and youth what country could you possibly come from where that isn’t true for every product.

This is capitalism and there isn’t a single instance in this type of system where the consumer is forced to adapt to the wims of the salesman. The burden is on them it isn’t true for a kickstarter but everything this isn’t some socialistic society where people care that a business stays afloat. If they can’t meet the demands of the consumer then it will fail and it in MMO’s that’s an all to common occurrence even now the number one complaint on these forums are empty maps and empty modes because people continue to use there rights to find a product that suits there needs.

Others see this and know it will happen and complain to see if changes will be made because this game requires people and if Anet continues to drop people there won’t be enough people left playing for the rest of us to enjoy the game exactly like those posts complaining about empty, maps, dungeons, events, wvw, and even something as simple as a LFR tool to l shrink the amount of afk raiders waiting for a raid in VB.

Actually this isn’t really true at all. Consumers adapt all the time. Of course there are cases when they don’t also. But don’t fool yourself.

Selling in part, is convincing people to change their minds. Anet has done a bad job of selling a lot of the changes to the game. They’re devs, not sales people. But that doesn’t make the changes bad. Sometimes people are forced to adapt and end up better for it.

Tell me in ANYWAY why i should adapt. Dont tell me that people do tell me why i should? First people said WvW was dead coz HoT maps, now HoT maps and fractals and dungeons are dead because raids and Fallout 4. PEOPLE ARE NOT ADAPTING. They are leaving. This is the EXACT thing that happened to wildstar. The posts are almost word for word, even down to the euphemism for swearing, except there is was cupcake and here it is kitten.

Alot of people arent happy. That is not subjective, nearly all game forms have seen a drop and the forums are filled with complaints. There is a white knight crew telling people to adapt, or dont like it leave, or get good or get out. Its the exact thing that happened with wildstar. Where is wildstar now? Struggling to survive even as a comlete free to play game.

And to think i came here for the very REASON i didnt want to adapt to wildstar. Blaming the player for a bad or poorly recieved game is the first step of denial.

I voted with my wallet with wildstar, i voted with my wallet for WoD. I sure as hell have no problem voting with my wallet here. GW2 isnt a life necessity. There is 0 absolutely 0 reason to adapt to any form of entertainment product. OF ALL products on any market in the world entertainment is the WORST one to expect people to adapt to.

to A-net, email me when this crap gets figured out, i already stopped playing the game a week ago and ive seen this forum argument play out before. Guess who lost? Carbine, the makers of wildstar. NO ONE ELSE.

I’m pretty sure as many people came back as those that are leaving. In my guild, more people came back, and no one has left, so this whole people are leaving claim? Meaningless.

Yes, some people are playing Fall Out 4, like my son, but he’s almost done with it and he’ll be coming back to Guild Wars 2 very soon. He returned to play HoT and he’s enjoying it.

So if some people took a break because a bunch of new games came out, well that’s not that unusual. Many of them will be back.

WvW, I agree, is in a bad place. The rest of the game isn’t suffering though. Even if you think it is. You should look up confirmation bias.

sorry where is the confirmation bias in needing taxis to do 3 week old maps?
where is my personal bias of the dozens of threads of “maps are dead” that i have never posted in?

you know what never mind i keep hitting myself for trying when literally this entire thing has played out before for me down to the letter. i hope for the IPs sake everything is going as planned, ive seen one IP sink with this exact conversation paving the way, im not sticking around to find out if it happens again.

Forums Filled With Complaining

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Pezz.4758

Pezz.4758

Let’s be honest: ANet included raids because players asked for them. They made HoT harder because players asked for challenging content. They added masteries and hero points because players complained that there wasn’t much left to do once you reach a certain point in the game. Of course ANet made mistakes in the way they implemented these things, but you can’t deny that GW2 becoming more and more like most other 08/15 MMOs is because many players want GW2 to be like other MMOs. This is what happens when developers listen too much to their players.

What I don’t understand is why these devs (not just Anet devs – pretty much ALL devs) STILL don’t seem to get that one type of person’s opinion isn’t, necessarily, as representative of the playbase, as a whole, as another’s.

Surely, they must have noticed, by now, that a certain type of player – let’s call them “hardcore” – tends to comment about games, on the internet, far more often than another type – let’s call them “casual” – ever does.

They MUST have noticed this, surely?!

…and yet, they seem to treat all comments as if they were created equal and are all equally representative of the playerbase make-up, as a whole.

Despite all the mounting evidence to the contrary, all around them…

I just don’t get it.

its not just Anet alot of companies do this
what i dont understand AT ALL is this is the same umbrella company as wildstar

wildstar, i game that MARKETED from day 1 as hardcore old school MMO
FAILED MISERABLY . And now GW2, arguably the most casual friendly, relaxed
no set goal chill out MMO is trying to adopt a more hardcore approach?
if a game strictly marketed as such failed, how did t hey think the homebase for all the people who left raid games like wow, wildstar FF would fair? i honestly cant even begin to fathom how this was thought to be a good idea.

That’s exactly what Anet did. People asked for more challenging content.

If you weren’t one of those people, well… Sorry. There’s plenty of other content to go around for you, and plenty of other games for you to play.

i cant stress how extremely damaging telling people to quit the game can be in the long term
ive ridden the hardcore vs casual content roller coaster before, the biggest loser was the game company
ive moved on i refuse to ride it again, but i hope for the sake of the fans of this IP people dont leave and if you are a fan of this game you would think the same

Pezz.4758

My problem with your complain about GH’s is that it’s based on the number of people in your guild. See, that’s not actually your problem because we all know the barrier to doing GH isn’t people in the guild, it’s gold.

It’s Mats… That some people will buy with Gold, Sure. I prefer to pay them for Black Lion Market things… not for gold to get a basic quality of life back. Maybe when I’m bored enough, I’ll go through the mat list and assign current gold values to everything, so we can see just how much it would take…

But no, inherently, it’s not Gold.

That’s a convenient argument for you. Mats is equivalent to gold in this game as we know. Besides, if you’’re going the mat route, the expectation is that it already takes you longer, so complaining about it makes no sense. You can’t complain about how hard it is if you’re just going to be stubborn and take the hard way to do things. I mean, you can, but you don’t look very good doing it; since day one collecting your own mats for whatever has always been the hardest and slowest way to go about crafting; I see no reason that GH is any different.

either way: materials or gold requires game time. converting materials/drops into gold takes time and needs to be gathered etc etc. it really isnt about the leght it takes (for me anyway) it is the implementation of how all was done. YES we get to keep certain things and are given BUT if we want to continue with it as before we have to REDO everything. sort off not fair but meh, keep calm and grind on i guess

Exactly, so it’s not about how many people are in Guild, it’s about gold or mats you have.

it is also about people sort off, cant move on with 2 players in it. also for claiming the hall a guild needs a minimum of 5 players ( I hear the best is like 7 or while before hot ALL was reachable with even people having their private storage guild. which i can understand some people get flipped off about. as do I. my “private” guild consists off me and my best friend, we used to have more people but they left because we play irregular times. now she left GW2 because of HoT difficulty (she is fairly new to the game but already did all core things and cant go on HoT) So now I am alone…. I do not want to invite random people into it, scared for abuse of systems and such ( i know i know settings). so for my private thingy I am stuck now. I wasnt before. now i am. I wasnt before, with HoT Iam.

True, but that’s a vast minority of guilds. Some might say it’s reasonable that Anet doesn’t cater to EVERY single scenario, especially those that may not be inline with their ideas of how the game works. It doesn’t even make sense to me a 3 man org would want to make a GH and I doubt it does to mostly everyone else in this game.

please do not speak for “mostly everyone else in this game”. As I see it there is MANY duo player guilds out there. more then you might realize. which is okay by me, and understandable due to the nature GW2 started: for casual (very casual) players that can pretty much solo the whole base game without having to party up but are allowed so if they feel like it. And that is where it lays that there are so many small guilds. I really do not like seeing this bashing on small guilds tbh. the tools where there for it to be allowed for many years, and off a sudden they got “removed” (it is still possible but we need to go through some loopholes which is unneccaserry tbh) by arenanet and gotten the finger basically. I am a very casual player. sometimes i play a few weeks (when time permits me) every day several hours, but most of the time it is about 1 hour per day or not at all. This does not mean I am totally without skill, no I can not manage in any for of PvP (it is why I do not play it and not like it) but I can solo pretty much any aspect of the game that is soloable, and I am decent enough in teamplay things like dungeons or something, sometimes even the last one standing and rezzing everyone (I am really not that good, just a fast button smasher).

Yes and most duo and single player guild are out there for bank spaces and not have to get whispered with -Hey wanna join my guild?

You sort off did on your previous post, last sentence.

Yes they used something called common sence.

You can make a fotball team with 3 players and call it a team but good luck getting to play any other team, with that nr of people same with guilds here.

football “teams” of 3 players do no exist because a football team only get to play with a minimum of 7… that is a rule… nowhere in GW2 was it ever a rule a guild MUST have any higher number then 1… so your carefully picked example does not fit.. sorry.

and your “so called common sense” does not include lets say small family guilds…. small friend guilds… or what ever more reasons there are for having a small guild. even if a group of ten players have a guild, it can be very hard to get all on at the same time due to having an actual life besides guildwars 2 …. all these people payed the for the guild halls also. they payed to having the ability to make a guild. they are not allowed to have this? why are these paying costumers not allowed to have what other paying costumers have? I do not see your logic. open your mind a little more.

Yes but that wasent what I said.

You can get 3 people and start a football team, there is no rule against starting one.
But you wont be able to play any other team since your 3 players, still your a football team and you were allowed to start it.

So yes you can start a guild with as low as 1 person but you would be able to do everything with that 1 person as it should be.

Its a guild hall not my personal house. Ask for anet to put in a house you and friend can call a club or you and family can call a home.

but you are getting it all wrong. it is not just the guild hall: it is the upgrades too! those we had, we got to keep, but if we want it after usage, we MUST HAVE A GUILDHALL AND UPGRADES! are you so in another world you are just not understanding things??

There is a building in la that let you use your stuff you got, other then the stuff that was removed or changed.

If you talk about wvw alot was changed there my friend its a totaly new ballpark and need a dedicated guild to use those upgrades.

I am aware but all new “upgrades” needs to be unlocked again! grind again, influence first now materials and other stuff… its just silly. I dont care it would take me a long time, its just silly it is put behind walls.

think of it this way, by the time you unlock everything again in your small guild, the next expac will be ready, and it might go back to influence with a total wipe! haha oh wait thats not funny its sad and possible

that is a worry for then, for now this is a legitimate worry for a decent amount of people. I really wish I could play more and actually get people to join my guild, but the time i do play on my own guild is minimal, simply because I also help out with a bigger guild. It is no denying in the fact that many people have left the game, my friendslist is always “ded” and 2 out of 3 guilds I am in are drying up as well. all since the release of HoT it gottten less and less people. it is sad, I love the gw franchise. been playing since the start (of gw1) and will keep logging in at times, but currently it is just a mess and i hope that arenanet considers slight changes in their new stuff. beneficial for both casuals and hardcore players.

I just dont get why so many say that 1 or 2 (or a few more) player guilds are not guilds and shouldnt be allowed to have a gh and must join a big guild. what do these guilds lay in your way? we are not bothering you, we do not take away from your gameplay if arenanet makes slight changes so also these small guilds get a better chance of claiming a guild hall and play as they did before. I am not asking to nerf the KITTEN out of mobs or anything, but some form of scaling would be nice. I think so atleast.

its the nature of the new direction. many “hardcore” players arent happy with just being the best, they have to make sure others know they are worse. happens in all gear grind/raid games. WoW, mythic raids look down on normal, normal look down on LFR. Wildstar, if you arent raiding you are bad, if you arent doing dungeons you are SUPER bad.

I can say with certainty that i will never pre-purchase, pre-order, early access, pay for beta tests on any game ever again. Been burned too many times and its bad for the industry and consumer.

Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?

Yes and no.
I regret buying it at all. BUT it helped me finally realize why pre-orders sold on hype
are so bad for the industry. HoT basically made me immune to the hype train.
So 50 bucks for the game i regret, but paying 50 bucks for that lesson was worth it for sure.

The forums were filled with legit complaints

Now the forums are filled with complaints about complaints and complaints about people leaving and how the maps are drying up and finding people has become so much harder.

The complaints at launch were legit and after weeks of voicing there concern those people merely left this is capitalism after all and it’s not there job to support a product they don’t find appealing. Problem is it’s become so much of an issue with people leaving we now have these empty map complaints which will just cause more people to leave down the road who even wished to stay and play.

can you believe people are calling unhappy customers bad people because the wont “adapt” to a completely option time wasting only for enjoyment entertainment product? at this point the forums are turning me off the game more than the game did, and i stopped playing it a week ago

People unwilling to adapt

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Pezz.4758

Ive gone back and forth on this a few times but… Im honestly not sure yet.

I picked up Gw2 in january BECAUSE it was the most casual MMO on the market.
My hardcore days are years behind me.
i fell in LOVE with the idea that everything gives xp, play as you want, pursue cosmetics not power i LOVED it.

now HoT comes, and its just a throw back to the mmos i left. group content everywhere, gating whether it be grinds or time gating, raids, gear treadmill.

at this point i basically paid 50 bucks for elite specs and rev, which i do love by the way.
but im not going back into hot maps until it changes, and if it doesnt i guess ill move on.

Wow wall of text… cba to read it all.

But yeah… what did you expect. Anet said multiple times that HoT will have have more challenging content.

Challenging content meaning that it will be more difficult.
I feel like many people didn’t expect the challenging content to be challenging for some reason…

maybe because 3 years of casual friendly content? maybe because the companies tag line is “play how you want”?

HOT was clearly designed to add challenging end-game content, which GW2 clearly lacked. It’s not designed for casuals.

I’m fine with the addition of challenge. However, adding an XPac that is only aimed at the "more challenge’ demographic means that anyone in the “fine as it was” demographic is being expected to play only the (very) old content. Tying subsequent content updates to the XPac is a clear indicator that the XPac is supposed to be for the "everyone’ demographic.

While I preferred vanilla GW2 when its difficulty level was higher (like in the original BWE’s), I have to wonder why the various nerfs to vanilla content were done in the first place. If the “fine as it was” demographic is too small to merit consideration, why was it catered to?

There’s also the question, “Where in the GW2 player skill continuum does Anet believe HoT maps are tuned?” The more inclusive it is, the better for Anet. Unfortunately, when it comes to challenge, there is no including everyone, unless ANet is willing to provide separate challenge levels via different content.

which is what i thought raids were, different content for a different demographic
and then i find HoT open world content is a TOTALLY different ballgame to core tyria
and i find myself wondering, did i spend 50 dollars on elite specs and rev?

Thanks for the 2 weeks.

Fml. Seriously people, LFG. It’s not kittening rocket science. I can look at LFG at practically any time of the day, and there’s tons of people using LFG to taxi into “org” ( organized ) maps, looking for others on the story steps/achievements, Hero Challenge farming and specific Hero Challenge help.

This is why we can’t have these nice things.

if Anet came in here right now and told me HoT is the new direction of Gw2 and deal with it or leave i would make my choice.

Until then i will leave feedback and hope the year i spent here with core GW2 learning and enjoying it isnt just abandoned.

But i cant play it and it saddens me. Its like banging a square block in a round hole. My square block is my playstyle that was supported for the last year in core GW2, and the round hole is this new play style they came up with for hot.

That’s exactly why you should ask for a refund – so you are heard. If everyone buys HoT and that’s it, ArenaNet will think the playstyle they have introduced with HoT has been a huge success, and will just keep adding more content like that. As you said, they don’t have an exit survey – they can see people not playing anymore but not asking for refunds as a sign that people loved HoT but found that the expansion has little content.

We have to let ArenaNet know what we think about this new content, and the best way to do so is with our wallets. Asking for a refund is the clearest way to point that you are not happy with how HoT is, regardless of how much content it has.

If ArenaNet listens, you can always buy HoT again.

dude im running out of companies to support here.

blizzard is done for me after WoD and their focus on micro transactions.
activision (same company as blizzard) is done after destiny putting out DLC faster than CoD games
EAs “free to play” of SWTOR and well…its EA
ncsoft after wildstar was already done for me, but i read that anet works with
their own people more than carbine did, but now HoT happens.

where do i go? honestly what is going on with the industry.

i cant refund, i need SOMETHING to at least log into from time to time when isaac is platinum god and bloodborne DLC is over.

So i basically paid 50 dollars for content that largely frustrated me for absolutly no reason.

Ask for a refund.

GW2 has two long standing and huge issues: events attribution and server navigation.

All the way back in 2012, there was an one-time meta event – the Ancient Karka one – that had such a big drop rate that people nicknamed its reward the “Precursor Chest”. The event took quite some time and of course a lot of people were playing it, and ArenaNet’s network wasn’t particularly stable so quite often we got someone with a disconnect during the event…

…And boom, there went the event reward. Upon a disconnect, people would return to an empty map that had either just finished the event (thus no reward for the now returning character) or that had no chance of finishing the event at all. With no way to return to the maps those players were in, and no way to get the rewards for an event after a disconnect, people simply lost.

Now, three years later, we still have the exact same problems. It’s STILL impossible to navigate through the megaservers map properly – at best, all we can do is improvise with the LFG feature, but that often doesn’t work. Being disconnected while finishing a long meta event STILL makes a player lose his/her rewards more often than not, no matter how much of his/her time said player has just wasted.

ArenaNet is obviously not even trying to fix either of those issues, because if they were – and both have been very well known for quite some time now – they would already have fixed them.

Complaining on the forums doesn’t work, this is something people have been complaining about for quite some time now. The best we can do is to press ArenaNet economically. So, ask for a refund, tell your friends to ask for refunds too, and tell those who stay to stop buying gems. When this issue is fixed, then you all can come back. But we have to make ArenaNet listen, one way or the other.

im not angry enough to do that. i really do think HoT maps could be great, and i LOVE the scrapper and reaper.

But i cant play it and it saddens me. Its like banging a square block in a round hole. My square block is my playstyle that was supported for the last year in core GW2, and the round hole is this new play style they came up with for hot.

For now im just looking for a better fit, whether gw2 does it or another game does it first isnt up to me.

im not done forever, im done for now.

and i dont even know how to suggest change, if i suggest stuff not being so group focused i get jumped on by hardcore players and made fun of. if i say maybe dont have wps contested so often i get called bad ect

its just frustrating at this point, and thats not what i play games for. if the frustration eases, youre darn right ill be back playing again, but as it stands, its just not enjoyable in its current form.

You need to taxi to full maps with LFG. The game evenly distributes people, and then they abandon maps to move to maps with max population to make doing the meta easier.

I don’t care what you do, but if you’re interested in playing the events, that’s how you do it.

i didnt know this maybe when i come back in a few months ill try it thanks.
i tried logging in today for the first time in a while and my heart just sank, i used to have so much fun in this game but the new direction just isnt for me. and i know people will say just keep doing the old maps if you dont like HoT, but if this is the new direction, when the next expansion comes out will i still be in base tyria then?

Just leaving this here as feedback since there is no exit survey, if you dont want to read the reasons Im not enjoying HoT feel free to skip it.

Maps are beautiful, music is great i enjoyed the story. So im not being sarcastic when i say thanks for the 2 weeks. But thats all i can do.

HoT maps feel dead, i dont know if im doing something wrong but half the events i show up to are empty. Oh and they are designed for full groups. So i try to do it solo, die, run back, but wait, all WPs are contested. So by the time i get back “you have lost participation for inactivity” or the event failed.

Ok so i dont die, i do a few events. Oh wait these events dont actually give any rewards, they come at random times as part of meta event progress. So i got 20 minutes to log on and bang out an event before work, get it done, but i have to chill in the map for another 15-20 minutes and hope something else finishes for a reward? ok…

HPs werent a problem for my reaper and scrapper, i did them the first week. NOW? my guardian will sit at difficult ones for up to 30 minutes with a mentor tag on calling in map with no help. How is this going to be in 3 months let alone 2 weeks?

The whole design of the game encourages running past everything. YES the maps are beautiful, its a shame they are all just a blur as i run by at warp 8 with a million vet mobs shooting slowing arrows and knocking me down. Oh why not team up and fight them? Anytime ive tried that the minute i took aggro from the other person, THEY took off at warp 8 SEE YA SUCKER! ok back to the WP ….oh wait contested back to the start of the map!

And this is where it really really hits me. Why? Why am i bothering with HoT maps at all? They have worse gold per hour and ecto per hour than SW, i cant do fractal or legendary masteries in them. If i dont plan to raid, why ever do HoT maps?

So i basically paid 50 dollars for content that largely frustrated me for absolutly no reason.

But ya, maps and music look pretty, so thanks for the 2 weeks.

honestly im just realizing more and more that MMOs arent for me anymore. love HoT dont get me wrong its not a GW2 issue. I think i may have just outgrown the million hours into 1 character for a different dress up option grind. Whether its the gear treadmill in more tradition games, the skin grind here or the crafting/xp grind in games like BDO and archeage.

Love HoT but think its time to stop lying to myself.

This isnt a complaint thread i just want to open a discussion and see if im alone or doing something wrong.

Ok, so since HoT HP patch, ive been going hard in this game. Im disabled and its hard for me to leave the house so i wouldnt be exaggerating if i said i average 12 hours a day.

But it feels like ive done nothing to progress my character.
Ill try to explain.

A typical night i log in ans set a goal. Last night for instance was finish pact master 2 and finish weapon smithing.

So i think, alright! SW events! good xp, lots of bags to farm ectos ect.
Then i just lose track. Im in sw with a goal but i see some trees, well im going to need those for when i do my forestry or whatever the gun making one is. So now i farm mats for an hour. Oh a chest train started! more ectos! but now im not getting mastery XP. Ok OK. well do 1 fractal concentrate on getting pur exp and mats.

12 hours pass by of getting distracted and i go to bed with MAYBE 5 or 10 ranks from 400-500 (super expensive) crafting. I still havent ranked my mastery, im done gold from fractal keys and ive basically got no where.

And then i see oh shoot im short on master points for the NEXT level to master so the next day i have DIFFERENT goals that wont get done.

And yes, i realize how crazy it is to be saying there sTOO much to do in an mmo. But i just feel like im not getting anywhere with a 12 hour day put into the game and its ….frustrating, am i t he only one?

Seriously Blown Away.
