I think, it’s not only problem of spamming. I really want to see other cities of Tyria more inhabited.
…Which was a “problem” nobody cared even before FOTM.
The proper solution is a novelty called a LFG tool so people doesn’t have to spamchat with all those fractal levels.
But since we aren’t paying $15/mth…
The only thing this game has going for it is the shiny graphics. ArenaNet really needs to take advice from PlanetSide 2 developers. They frequently make videos talking about current/future plans, post on the official forums+reddit, and actually make changes based on player feed back. In fact, I was just watching a developer interview and one of them specifically said they are NOT going to focus on pumping out new stupid holiday content but instead work on squaring away as many bugs as they can to please their player base. I guess you haven’t seen the media or community sections or the forums or anything like that.
To say ANET is not showing you whats ahead or giving you updates or anything of that matter is absurd. This MMO has updated players more then any MMO to date AND has put out more fixes faster then any MMO. Go look at the wiki and see how many times they have patched and patched. Unlike that other MMO that leaves things broken for months and years, ANET has done a great job with keeping up with fixes AND keeping us informed.
And sorry, player feedback is NOT always right. Any game maker that does that is going to have a short existence.
C’mon this game is still buggy like hell, regardless of how fast and how many fixes Anet claims to make. I already wasted time on a CoF p2 that bugged out with the new patch.
Of course I shouldn’t complain because it’s F2P and asking fixes is entitlement.
I’m willing to bet you are the same guy who won’t hesitate to ignore or kick players with lower fractals levels than you either.
I’m one of those but at least I know I’m no hypocrite.
Can’t say I care much for champions because almost all of them aren’t worth killing outside of dungeons.
3) is definitely your fault, I’m extremely sorry to say it. And you’re funny too!
Oh hey, let’s not put in a repair anvil in the fractal also, because that is not going to annoy non-elitists.
Because some people wants to be special snowflakes where ego is tied to numbers on gear and time spent acquiring, and also not realizing they are playing the wrong game to start with.
These are also the same people that sours the experience of the rest of the players in every MMO ever, even those with vertical progression.
When will every MMO stop wanting to be WoW ? Oh sorry… WoW with poor implementation.
The moment they realize WoW does the same thing but better? Apparently a very hard concept to grasp.
I get it you aren’t an MMO old timer because any of this isn’t new once you light up that ugly min-maxing stat mentality in the MMO player brain.
What makes you think you are so special when people who had the sheer audacity to DC from game out of their control can’t even get back to their group?
Just an entitled prick who has no right to demand anything because it’s a non-sub game. sarcasm
The min-maxing stat MMO mentality will never die; if you reward it, then prepare to suffer the consequences.
Proven by EVERY MMO ever made.
Hello to people who can’t play GW2 this weekend because…like let’s say because of your grandmother funeral.
Are you enjoying the slap to the face yet?
All this wouldn’t have happened if they didn’t make it into supposedly one-time only event with expensive as hell rewards when both were stupid ideas through and through.
They deserved all the bad PR they get.
Game took a dump for the 1st mass restart and less than an hour later took a dump again on me with the new “patch”. Genius!
Why make one time events?
Why not have it reoccur every 3 hours and have you only able to loot once?
edit: 1 loot per account.
Because WoW doesn’t do that and anything that it doesn’t do is automatically good.
Whoever who says “its just a CHANCE to get precursors” are just grasping at straws to defend Anet.
“its just a CHANCE to get precursors” + “cannot even do the event because of technical/real life issues” = No chance forever.
Rebuttal please?
Hey, let’s keep using terrible ideas like one-time only events in GW2 because WoW doesn’t do that and anything WoW doesn’t do = good.
So much negativity. There are people out there who are on lvl 1, but if try to play an mmo by yourself it’s not going to work out when you want to do group content.
EDIT: It took WOW 6 years to make the content gate as small as it is. Remember BC? If you started late you were left behind.
You mean a 2012 MMO couldn’t take pointers from a 2007 MMO because now both are in different stages of their life cycle?
What a utterly crappy argument.
Even WoW isn’t stupid enough to allow players to content gate each other with the LFG tool after realizing the horrors of gearscore OR have dungeons with 10+ levels of difficulty because its incompatible with the previous point.
Bravo Anet, you didn’t took things that should and took things that shouldn’t from WoW.
It’s just so funny. Diablo 3 started off bad and got increasingly better after patches, this one just went from hero to zero with just one major content patch after release.
Between the gear treadmill, bugs, stupid one-time events and the piss poor technical design of fractals, I’m out. GW2 was a $60 well spent, but not a single cent more when it could have got more from me.
Why should you not believe them when they say that it is the “final” tier? More importantly, why do you ask that question when they never said that? They only say they will not release new tiers of sets every three months (because that is what a lot of those paranoia people whined about). They did not explicitly say that there will never be any other tiers than the existing ones, and they also did not say that there would be.
Because I’m not born yesterday and don’t expect somebody to honor a new promise when they already broke an old one?
This reminds of the D3 fanboys argument of inferno should be one-shot KO hard because Blizzard said “it was supposed to take months to clear” if anyone doesn’t like it can play something else.
And that’s what people did.
Like a number of people I do question the shift in direction. I may not be an GW1 player, but it is a shift in direction for ArenaNet. Even so though I have to say I’m looking a bit forward to it. I have almost Full Exotics on my character. I just got done with Map Completion and Story Completion last night. I started asking myself what is there for me to do? Legendaries are great and all, but they are a long term goal. Not something I am expecting get done in a short time frame. So, I need something in between to keep my interest. That is where the new gear and dungeon come in. Something to work for in the middle while working on a Legendary.
I respect your opinion, just don’t complain when stat inflation rears its ugly head, can’t find a group unless you are fully Ascended kitted by the new Gear Score – GW2 Edition, when yet another new tier obseletes your hard grinded set or “why am I spending more gems to reskin my armor”
Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill.
thats why we decided to create a gear treadmill.
The only thing to make this post even more meaningful is with the photo of Greek Ancient Aliens guy.
People hate power creep because it combines the worst of both worlds:
1. More grinding for new gear to replace the old one you just grinded, or get left in the stats dust.
2. Even if you complete the grind, it is almost certain you land back at square one, faring no better overall (10 dps vs 10 HP versus 1000 dps vs 1000 HP) as mob stats are also raised by the same %, as proven by almost every MMO ever.
They are not adding WOW like gear tiers that make old gear useless.
This is quote from News and Announcements:
Our Studio Design Director Chris Whiteside just posted this:
“I’d like to respond to concerns players have raised about ascended items. Please keep in mind that we’re releasing this as one portion of a massive November update that introduces and improves many aspects of challenge, progression, and rewards. With this and upcoming updates, we view ourselves as introducing large amounts of content with supporting systems and features, akin to an expansion pack, building on Guild Wars 2 through a series of live releases. So it’s important for us to be able to add an expansion pack’s worth of progression and rewards to support that content. Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.
Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.
Finally we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the upcoming content, and we will ensure we share our thoughts with you on the experiences we share in the Lost Shores."
Chris Whiteside – Studio Design Director
If you read it, it clearly says: We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.
It is just one level of gear. If they had that since release no-one would have been worried.Just like legendary items (which will gain Ascended-level stats when they release Ascended weapons), Ascended items are items of prestige. They are meant to give the most hardcore players a good and challenging goal to work towards, while not breaking the game or seriously gating content in any way.
People say that this is a step towards WoW in progression. This is ArenaNet introducing a perfect solution to catering to casual and hardcore players, without creating any sort of rift between those two player types.
Also note that Ascended gear lacks slots for players to choose runes, gems, and sigils (when weapons come out). This means that despite Ascended gear having slightly higher stats, they’re less open to customization and are likely to not even replace exotics in many scenarios. I imagine this is why they are introducing the rings and back slot first, because it will not take away runes/sigils from people.
TLDR: I’m happy with new free content that we will get. I will not start running one instance over and over to get Ascended gear as fast as possible. I’m still exploring the world with friends who are slowly moving to GW2.
Yours is just fallacious reasoning, this game should not cater to WoW treadmill fans simply because this isn’t WoW and it was PROMISED to be NOT a gear treadmill. And being F2P doesn’t excuse the devs to steer the game away from that.
I just realized why Anet is doing this from another poster, a veiled attempt of a money grab by pressurizing players to spend their gold/$ on transmute stones. Can’t milk the cow when it doesn’t want to change it’s skin.
For those who think Ascended gear is going to make you more powerful in relevant content, you clearly ain’t played enough gear treadmill MMOs to realize that isn’t true in the long run.
I’m sure there are plenty of valid arguments against Ascended gear I would like to say way to betray the very spirit of this game and the players if this goes through, Anet.
Hell no.
Players like me are drawn into this game precisely because it promises to have a stat ceiling that lasts forever, at least until the next expansion.
Besides, long time MMO players already realized every increasing gear treadmills makes no difference to the power of your character at the end of the day because it will be countered by an equivalent increase in mob stats, regardless whether they like it or not.
Which means I have no idea why anybody over at Anet think this is even a remotely good idea.
