To add to this:

The only other element I can think of that really should be considered is ‘effort’ which is always a hard metric to gauge. But I’ve never met anyone who seriously thinks plinx is harder than running a dungeon with pugs, taking a tower in a good WvW matchup, or winning and sPvP tournament.

Say you have 3 people:

One spends 100 hours in WvW cause that’ what he likes to do.
One spends 100 hours in sPvP cause that’s what he likes to do.
One spends 100 hours bashing his head against plinx because, hey, maybe that’s what he likes to do.

One of these guys gets nothing to show for it. The other gets minimal. And the third is rewarded the most. I thought arenanet wanted to remove grinding but I feel like I’m being forced down a path because I want something to show for my time spent. Why does sPvP have sPvP only rewards? Why do WvW kills and tower captures not have higher drop rates? Why do non-level 80 zones not drop level 80 items with higher frequency to alleviate the fact that there are fewer events per area?

I know it sounds kinda like a rant but really, I need someone to convince me why these things don’t exist. I get that a legendary should take ‘time’ to get and that isn’t my complaint. My complaint is why can’t I spend that time where I have the most fun?

And to be clear I’m not even saying that things need to be perfectly equal, I’m just saying that there’s such a gaping discrepancy between people who farm event chains in full explorers/omnomberry and people who enjoy low level PvE areas, sPvP, and WvW.

Bank Pin code

If ANET adds a bank pin, the people hijacking accounts will just grab the pin when they keylog/phish you. So it won’t make anything more secure, but will make it more annoying for people trying to access their own stuff.

This kind of security theater is pointless. Unlike an authenticator, which does make things more secure.

They actually do this in Runescape and it works awesome. It’s an onscreen prompt where you click the numbers and the prompt randomly regenerates/swaps the numbers positions on each button press. You also only input it the first time you access the bank each time you log on. It’s really no more of an inconvenience than the mobile authenticator.

I like this a lot. Seems like it would take a lot of coding to implement but if arenanet has plans to develop sPvP in the future then this is something I would really like to see

So this guy popped out once every few seconds…in the same spot…hit your siege…and you all just sat there and watched it die slowly? I don’t understand. Cloak and dagger doesn’t even do that much damage. It would’ve taken him at least 15-20 hits (over a minute) of un invising and c&d’ing the siege to take it out. If you just autoattacked near it you would’ve killed him in five seconds. I don’t understand

Jumping puzzles can be a great way to get free siege. But I like the cannons and oil interaction. It should work like when you’re in a siege golem; Only the golem takes damage. Although if that were the case I think cannon’s damage would have to be nerfed a little as they’re pretty strong right now

I’ve got two level 80 characters and to be honest the 15-35 level range seems like its by far the hardest. It’s the exact time you run out of starting area to work with so you can’t move to the next area and you can’t continue your personal story. There’s really only three alternatives I’ve found.

1. Craft. This is a little expensive but if you have the gold then you can go 1-80 in a couple hours. Even if you just spend some time gathering you might be able to just get those 2-5 levels that will bridge the gap to your next personal story mission or area. Make sure you’re gathering all you can! Free crafting experience is always a bonus

2. WvW. At any level gives exp for completing objectives. I.E. capturing towers, supply camps, recruiting NPC’s, defending towers, the works. This can be slow if you don’t know what you’re doing but once you get the hang of it can be both fun, rewarding, AND get you to 80.

3. Move to other areas starting zones. Portal to lions arch using the pvp tab and then use the portals at the gate hub plaza to go to other areas. Run their quests, do their dynamic events.

One thing I forgot to mention is gathering in general giving tons of experience and daily requirements (kill 15 types of enemies, do 5 events etc etc) gives pretty good experience. Some people like to just camp a zone and run the same dynamic events over and over but that’s boring to me.

Once you get to 35+ the game is much smoother in my opinion. Dungeons open up for you. wvw becomes easier. There’s many more areas you can access, and the personal story level gaps are smaller in my opinion. But yes, I’ve felt the 15-35 level gap downside multiple times.

Enough. The real problem with backstab builds is not Backstab.

last point is that everyone really should be carrying a stunbreaker. It always seems like it’s worthless cause it doesn’t increase your pretty numbers but it really will save your life and then let you kill the thief who just used every single cooldown and has no endurance to dodge. It will also get you out of a stunlocked 100b or pretty much any other sure death. Carry a stunbreaker guys. Shutting down an entire player for one utility skill is worth it and will make you feel awesome afterwards

Thief triggers Haste and doubles his or her action speed at the cost of, well, nothing really.

I don’t like haste either as far as balance goes, but it does make you give up all of your endurance and stops your endurance regen for the entire duration. Meaning no dodges for at least 7-8 seconds after they activate haste meaning they’re a sitting duck. That is of course if you can get away which I’m not arguing here. Just saying it’s not technically costless

Give us an evade or an initiative builder instead…or something. I’ve just really thought, since day 1, Haste is generally just a bad idea for the Thief’s skill bar.

I don’t get why engineers weren’t given “hawkeye” or “green arrow” type bows. The thief’s 2+4 shortbow skills would have made great sense as a bow skill for a thief. Electrified arrows, grappling arrows. I would love all of the above

The problem with nightcapping isn’t with nightcapping. I don’t expect arenanet to tell someone they can’t play their game. The problem is that the current scoring system favors what time you play during the day. If one server’s peak hours are from 3-6 and anothers are from 6-9, and they play an even amount of time then they should be roughly evenly matched. But in this scenario the team that plays from 6-9 gets nearly 21 hours to hold positions uncontested while the other realm gets three. The issue is how the game scores. I saw another post on here about changing the scoring to reward more points if you capture something that hasn’t been flipped in a long time which would seriously help this issue.

Hey so I know bots are a touchy issue right now and ANET is doing a lot to alleviate the problem automatically. But it seems like a lot of players on the forums are discouraged from reporting because “I’ve seen that same bot there for 2 weeks now!”. I play Dota 2 as well and a feature everyone loves is that when a player is banned for whatever reason, the system sends a piece of mail to any player who reported them saying “Just wanted to let you know action has been taken against a player you reported, thanks for contributing to bettering the community” and its a hugely cathartic thing. I don’t know if this is possible here but it would definitely improve moral and give more people “updates” about ANET’s progress on bots.

If you started this on maguuma I would join. Most of the time i just sit outside the enemies base on my thief looking for challengers and fight anyone who comes out. I can clean up 20-30 kills before I die usually. Would be fun to have an ally cause as it stands I can’t bring anyone else with me as no one can escape like a thief can.

I run P/D in wvw and for the past couple days I haven’t lost a 1v1 yet. I still win at least 50% of my 2v1s and occasionally 3 and 4v1s. I sat outside our enemies spawn alone last night and got 42 kills before a group of 5 took me down

Running around solo ganking people in a team game doesn’t accomplish much? Who knew?

Doesn’t even have to be solo. If you have a team of people running around capping points and you run into someone who immediately logs out or ports, you’re denied a kill that you would’ve otherwise had, even if you’re contributing to the game normally. I don’t know what a solution would be that would be fair, but the feature is sometimes abused.

Yea, I’ve seen this abused a bunch. I’d rather have something like a proximity disable than a timer. If you’re within x—say 1500—range of an enemy you can’t port. But you would have to do the same for logging out since its used just as often to escape. But then again some people just really have to go and it might not be fair to make it so difficult to leave wvw.

Of all the keeps, yea I would argue that greens is the most easily defensible in EB given that their one ground gate is such a tight choke point and underwater siege is unavailable. I love the idea of taking a keep from underwater and I think it’s completely awesome. But in the lower ranked servers where zergs tend to dominate it’s a lot harder to do.

The other day I was doing a DE in orr. It was a kill a champion event. The champion chased me through a mob of people for TEN.MINUTES. It actually killed me once and moved on, when someone ressed me it turned right around and made a b-line for me. Everyone in the event was laughing and telling me to keep running. But yea. I know that feel bro.

As the title says, I bought about 10 potions of flame slaying (the ones you get from the badge vendor in lions arch for 1 dungeon token) I kept wondering why they were wearing off so quickly when it didn’t feel like I had spent an hour in game. It turns out the buff was going away when the potion still said it had half an hour left on it. This happened about 4 times in a row. I was using another food at the same time (half an hour duration) and they would always go off together.

I just joined a group that was advertising doing CoF path 3. I’d never done it before but when I got in one of the players just started messing around jumping around. Normally you go to the middle and talk to the group of people to choose your path, instead of doing that he managed to glitch himself behind the door. He then used the in game portal gun from lion’s arch to bring the rest of the team behind the gate. Apparently this skipped some “puzzle”, I’ve never done path three so I don’t know exactly how much it skipped but the ledge to the left of the door is possible to stand on and then get behind the door. I can be more specific if anyone from AN is interested, I left out some important information on how to replicate it…

Basically this build maximizes your point control and can easily hold a point vs two invaders for extended periods of time. Run in, plant a large bomb to clear the point. When they come back in, hit your glue and smoke and bleed bombs. Switch out to shield, use your aoe reflect and stun. If they come back switch to flamethrower to vent smoke, lay down napalm, then air blast them out again. Grab heals from med kit when necessary and lay down your supply crate when necessary. If you’re about to go down throw elixir r beneath yourself. Guarunteed revive and you’re holding the point for even longer.

What’s the best build for might stacking?

And what runes compliment it the most?

I tried running a might stacking engineer in pvp and the most stacks I could maintain was about 6 to 10 but I thought I had read about people getting a lot more.

Do same type runes stack? So if I put the same rune on two pieces of armor I should get double the effect? Because I was loading my armor with runes of strength/hoalbrak(sp?) but it didn’t seem like it was affecting the might duration. Full Alchemy should put the might duration from elixir b at 39s for example and should about double with all the runes…but the most I was getting was the 39s despite all my armor being loaded with +20% might duration runes

I’m a level 80 engineer looking for a guild that’s very active in the WvW scene. I have a mic if it’s a requirement. Mostly looking to do small party 5-20 man raids or sPvP too.
