I think “Rush” needs a follow-up sequence attack to cancel the rushing animation whenever we want, it’ll still trigger Charging strike at full distance. Rush>Charging Strike? I kind of hate using my weapon swap just to cancel out rush and wasting my sigil swap like “Sigil of Energy.”
This sounds like an indirect attempt to nerf D/P, its the only weaponset that maximize the use of spamming heartseekers for stealth.
Sounds like this guy is asking for training wheels to learn proper skill rotations… I almost feel sorry for you.
With so many useless traits, people will eventually fall into the same dilemma.
Might as well give each profession an exclusive weaponset… Flail for warrior, polearm for guardian, claws for thief, scythe for necros, etc.
I kill them all the time on my warrior. “They are only OP” if you’re stupid enough to stand in black powder, lol… Which the majority of the people in WvW tend to do, also really easy to just auto attack them to death while they are stealthing.
Well, If you were sitting still of course it take seconds to down you… I hope you know you have access to WASD/2 rolls/stun breaks to react.
OP… I dont know about you or how you do things but I already have good timing, make correct positional changes, and am aware of my surroundings! Thief isnt any harder to play because i already do those things… in every character, every class, every GAME I play!!
I think you mean to say.. the class is hard for YOU to play?
You stated in another post that you always get blinded by d/p, do you really make correct positional changes? I think thief is hard for YOU to play.
Could heartseeker be given a second skill in a small chain in the same way as larcenous strike? If this second skill was given a longer animation, high damage, high initiative cost, not a finisher, then might it give more balanced play?
This is actually an interesting idea if they want us to stop chaining into stealth. Although theres a lot of experienced players that would stand in my aoe waiting for me to heartseek into them to trigger revelation debuff.
I like your idea OP!
My personal problem with this weapon set is the blinds. I dont care about stealth, running away, or backstabs —> (I can take 2 of a thieves best backstabs in a row on my thief befor having to heal). But BP aoe blind, BP shooting out a ranged blind, #3 gap closer with blind, heartseeker (if traited) creates blind. THATS TO MUCH blind.
It makes it really hard for a melee class to counter.. i run sword thief for example and i literally cannot hit a d/p thief.. not because they are good lol but because they are blinding me without even realising it most of the time.. i now have to run d/p as secondary just to kill them
I hate the cheezy weapon set
they get rewarded for wearing beserker gear and spamming blinds .. its sad..
and this new change to blinds only makes it worseFOR A START to bring this weapon set inline.. get rid of the BP blinding shot.. for a start!
I think that would do alot!!!!
Stealth and now blind? If you can’t melee it… RANGE it! Problem solved.
Hmm, if Seth’s idea come into play, I would like IoS and Patience trait merge into 1 trait renamed “Master of Shadow” master trait. But this can free up one slot for rejuvenation/embrace combo which would make us kind of scarier.
Do people still 1on1? I thought this game was design around teamplay? I understand WvW roaming but in PvP, 1on1 is the dumbest thing to do. Especially with different builds like bunker, burst builds, etc… Specific builds and weaponset will have a huge advantage against others, you’re not fighting a fair game.
I remember in beta when you get out of range of shadow return it would automatically trigger shadow return regardless of the timer on it. I had no idea it had infinite range, sounds like the skill was repolished and people abused the loophole.
haha, I guess people count upleveled players for the thieves average damage? I know my pistol whip can reach 8k on them.
I suggested giving a whirl finisher combo for pistol whip just for the sake of a minor buff, but apparently the devs aren’t listening. I really have no idea what to say.
Well, I will say this: S/P is NOT, NOT, NOT commonly played in this game. It is one of the least played specs by Thieves. People hate the “Korean” feel of Pistol Whip because it locks the player to the ground during its animation. D/D – D/P are played more by the ADD folks (not being mean, it’s known).
I find it way more powerful and its teleportations are insanely good (until today, not sure).
Because it is not played that much, ArenaNet see’s that the few people that do are doing well with it and find it as a problem spec that could become an up-rise if they don’t get a handle on it now. (that’s just my personal view).
However here’s a thought:
How did Cloak and Dagger not get looked at as an issue? (should not even be a stealth on this ability — it’s far too much stealth)
How did Backstab not get looked at as an issue?
Why were daggers intended to have more top-end damage than 1H Swords? Remember that one?!Now ask:
Why did PW get a 15% nerf when the real complaints coming in were about D/D and D/P builds? To this day I am still scratching my head on that one.The community hate thieves in general. S/P was one of the first weaponset that got nerfed, I mean hitting 8-9k+stun+quickness PW was pretty amazing, a lot of players couldn’t react to it. I remember going from S/P to D/D to D/P and now S/D. I still mainly use D/P and S/P tho.
Edit: I forgot PW can also evade attacks during the sword attack animation.
Oh, trust me I understand that. However Glass Cannon thieves are doing quite well for keeping hidden while hitting players (currently in game) for 10K BS. I am immune to hits for a moment swinging off my PW, but I’m not in stealth. D/D can BS off a 10K and go right back into stealth only to re-open again with one.
I don’t spec Glass Cannon by any means, very well balanced in Vit, Power, Toughness, Crit and Crit Damage. I want survival with damage but I know I must balance out my own personal weaknesses too, along with my character’s soft spots.
I’m a glass cannon thief and I could barely hit 6k with 10 stacks of might on my backstab. Where are you getting 10k backstab from? I also got full berserker with ruby orb.

Nowadays in WvW I tend to run into lot of experience players that know how to chase me when I use shadow refuge. lol, so I usually throw out Shadow Refuge following up with Hide in shadow running in the opposite direction and spamming heartseekers into smoke screen to maintain stealth. Soo many people are familiar with SR that I barely ever get to maximize its potential.
There are a couple of reasons:
1. First people who not know how to fight stealth
2. In hotjoin, D/D and D/P is ridiculously easy to play. It doesn’t take much skill to be good (of course those who are great do have skill). Those some people in who then complain about the thief doesn’t see how poor they are then in tPvP.
That can be said about any weapon set for any profession. Guild Wars 2 never did require that much skills because you were given preset skills that didnt change since lvl 5? D/D, D/P seem to be really popular among thief and generally get the most attention.

Balance only exist for the competitively egotistical players to stop crying about fairness.
Inbalance destroys variety and thats the general reason why it is avoided. If warrior had 100k hp warriors would still have even fights between each other, but you wouldn’t see many other professions out there. Would be quite dull.
I agree, we all could just roll a warrior in WvW/PvP so we can be on equal grounds. That would be quite dull as well.

^ Overpower or not, at least each profession provides a variety of unique playstyle. Thief just happen to specialize in stealth as 1 of its core gameplay mechanic. Why give us variety and take it away? Balance only exist for the competitively egotistical players to stop crying about fairness.
In GW1 you were given a deck of skills and could only draw 8 cards into your hands. The metagame games revolved around balancing specific skills that were overpowering in certain combinations. Now tell me about balancing 2 completely different games without comparing them?
I would like “Finish him!” Shout as an elite. Gain swiftness/fury/quickness for 10 second with a 60 second cooldown? Haha, that would be awesome.
I just stated that I hate Stealth regardless on a thread about Stealth.
Yea, I believe you… “it should be removed to be replaced with GW1 Assassins.”
And I’m one of those people that hates Stealth regardless and think that it should be removed to be replaced with GW1 Assassins.
If you hate stealth so much, why are you only complaining in the thief forum? Mesmer have stealth and it even complements their clones. Its apparent that your hate is only directed toward thieves and stealth.
^ I agree… As a thief I barely use any sort of toughness since I mainly use stealth. I kind of wish vitality was tied to Shadow Arts but that would be kind of OP. 15k health And stealth, what a deal.
Toughness is actually way better than vitality when you have spamable cleanse and healing. SA is quite a sweet spot there . Not saying its op because of that. If u read my post you will know its the bugged minor 25 trait when it’s abused in dp build.
d/p can barely reach 3000 attack if you invest 30 into critical strikes and 25 into shadow arts… It would ONLY be wise to put 25 into shadow arts to gain might to compensate for your loss in power from deadly arts. Yes SA is amazing but if you’re going to stealth all the time with d/p build, why in the world would you need any sort of toughness? You can simply hide and escape from the damage using stealth. I hardly ever get hit in PvP/WvW because of stealth, so toughness wasn’t really needed but is a nice addition. I prefer vitality because I use both infusion of shadow and patience in my trait along with 25 into SA for the might stacking, so I lack condition removal outside of signets and shadowstep which has a pretty long cooldown.

Dude… Did you made 2 accounts just to troll people about SA being OP?
So if we don’t believe you and call you out on it, and you can’t prove it, you start with the sarcasm. Myself and others have given rational arguments against, without calling you a liar or anything negative, but you go on the defensive and start getting rude. Looks like someone doesn’t like being disagreed with.
At this point, I’m beginning to think your main is your warrior, and while you do play your thief, your warrior is your favorite and you wouldn’t mind seeing the thief take a nosedive.
Frankly, it doesn’t affect me either way, as I don’t know you, don’t play in your tier, and on top of that, I don’t even trait for mug. If you can’t even have a reasonable discourse on the subject, with an open mind, I’ll have to assume you’re a troll, (whether deliberate or not I can’t say nor care).
srry u have a good point friend.. i just cant stand QQers ….well what i cant stand is anet listening to them. bc of QQs d/d is no longer playable p/p is no longer playable/ s/p is no longer playable…..sb isnt really playable as a dmg/primary set. p/d is barely playable bc of revealed 4 secs. s/d is decently playable and d/p is the only real choice. all bc of nerfs and nerfs alone. granted QQrs only have half the blame…anet the other. thieves are falling apart.
What? Are we playing the same game? P/P still rips the crap out of bunker builds and I’m specced into d/d… S/P may not be as strong as before but still gets the job done. The revealed buff didn’t affect anything, it just means you needed to invest 15 points into shadow arts for that extra 1 second stealth, but it did screw up our combo rotation between stealth. SB like LB for warrior was designed for group play, doing AoE dmg, I see nothing wrong with that.
Conditions to possibly pull-off an 11k non-critical dmg Mug;
- Full zerker + Rubies
- At least 30/30/x build
- Based on 2nd screeny – 24 stack of Bloodlust
- Target must have 2500 or less armor rating (not possible against 2600)I can accept that it’s possible — but that’s not solely Mug’s fault that Mug deals that much damage now is it?
The problem here is this: Anet is creating PvE contents that would require players to deal an insane amount of damage — but — Anet don’t want players to bring that insane amount of damage from PvE to WvW — yet — they refuse to separate the two.
This problem has nothing to do with the profession and definitely nothing to do with Mug.
Either Anet stop creating high-end contents, which PvE players will get bored fast and may leave the game if they haven’t already, or accept the consequences in WvW. Or swallow their pride and separate PvE and WvW.
Why they keep aggravating their player-base is what I don’t understand.
I use Mug in my builds, so I’m upset that it’s getting nerfed; but it needs to be nerfed. I have 2 valkyrie pieces, and I don’t use bloodlust, I use precision stacks. One build was 30/30. In the other picture it was 25/30/0/0/15.
I just want them to add other variables to mug so it’s not rendered useless.
I always thought people complained about not being about to react to Steal with Mug+Cloak and Dagger+Basilisk combo. if Mug doesn’t critical anymore, we’re still going to hit 3-4k+5k from Mug+Cloak and Dagger then following up with a backstab which totals up to 15k, you can still probably hit 20k at least. This nerf barely shaved off 2-4k extra damage from a critical Mug. To compensate for the loss in critical, all we need to do is perform more heartseekers.
Meaning you’ll only gain a single point of Initiative from it on a single typical stealth. It’s a garbage trait and no one takes it.
Even if it did grant an extra Initiative at the start of stealth as it should, it would still be worse than Infusion of Shadow.
Infusion of shadows+Patience+Hide in Shadows+Smoke Screen+dagger/pistol = Perma stealth without needing Shadow refuge. Patience isn’t garbage if you specialize in dagger/pistol.
Lol I’ve been playing my thief over a month or so now. I didn’t realize you can even chain CnD until today… I don’t see any reason why anyone would even chain CnD besides for culling2win thieves in WvW. So this stealth nerf doesn’t affect me.
I don’t know about you guys, but I love the change. Now I can backstab Giganticus Lupicus without it resetting. It improved my overall DPS in dungeons by a lot.
I never had an issue with him resetting… just curious as to what would possibly cause a reset?
That is of course, aside from the rest of your group being out of combat or climbing under your shadow refuge without attacking?
I can only think of a handful of times that a boss actually reset when we didn’t want it to… but in EVERY dungeon I run I feel the pain of being top of the aggro table.
Umm I usually duo Lupicus with a warrior and occasionally the warrior needs to space to replenish his health out of combat while I hold aggro backstabbing it without a reset. I also don’t understand why people are complaining about “PvE” thieves? Maybe thieves need to learn to dodge instead of hiding in stealth 24/7. This mechanic change is definitely a buff for backstab.

After the Jan 28 patch they fixed the sparks a bit and it was a bit easier (like it should be!) to pull the sparks in their place. But now, after the fixed the 4-1 trick (without announcing it) it seems the sparks behave even worse then before the Jan 28 patch.
For them to get in place you need to walk them over that spot over and over again so you at least have a chance at it.
Also, i’ve noticed in my last Simin fight, you can actually bug it out (dont know exactly how, but it happened twice) by bringing only 2 sparks (the north ones) and he sometimes appears after only those sparks are in place (without being fully healed!).
I don’t really care about this path now, i’ve done my DM achiev and i’m not gonna farm P4 because its very long, but still, they should fix this fight.
I always thought the 4-1 trick was part of the mechanics of the fight? I recall leaving 2 sparks out of the panel causes the next round to only require 2 sparks? Leaving 1 out so you can pull 1 the next round was a bug?
I guess you right. I just read somewhere that you need to be 1x Mesmer and 4x Berserker warriors to do it. But i admidt i did change from guardian to warrior right before the boss
It can be run with 1x mesmer and 3x Berserker geared professions like warriors/thieves since they excel in melee burst dmg with Haste/Frenzy/Time Warp.
This actually only happens when there is nobody attacking Lupicus, I guess he got bored? Example Scenario; 4 players of the team dodges his AoE missles out of range while he’s locked on to a thief that took severe damage dropping his health below 25% health triggering Blinding Powder from “Last Refuge” trait which can cause the boss to reset because there is no other targets. A lot of thing can happen when other players scatter around when dodging his attacks, just make sure one player is constantly attacking him.
I don’t know if this has been listed yet but Giganticus Lupicus in Seer’s path glitches out when you enter his chamber with the NPC dead preventing the scene from triggering.
I agree with Coaxial. GS is just so good as being both mobile and very high damage that it’s been hard to convince myself to use other options. Axe/Axe is nice, but besides the burst skill feels subpar (lack of mobility for instance).
I love Greatsword but after switching to Axes, I realize it may not be good at closing in on targets but with building momentum and discipline traits, you can upkeep endurance giving you the ability to dodge, burst to get endurance back while Greatsword gets whirlwind attack. Rifle also complements Axes really well since they both rely on Burst to recover endurance back.
Maybe replace the 2ndary weapon swap to banners instead until you drop the banners, this way you can swap to primary weapon set and to banners when you need to buff. this gives you the ability to transport 2 banners, 1 on your back and 1 in your arms.
They should let you mount banners on your back so you can walk around and fight or carry a 2nd banner. Although imagine fighting a warrior with a banner sticking out of his back, it’s like “You should attack me because I’m AoE buffing the entire party with regeneration!”
I don’t get why people are debating over which is better, I mean it’s not like you’re forced to use one or the other. You’re suppose to use all your attacks and if you aren’t, you’re limiting yourself.
I’ve been playing my warrior since the launch of the game. I still haven’t found a reason to create an alt besides for doubling/tripling the amount of tokens I need/want. Although we’re too predictable in PvP which makes us a sitting ducks at times.
So in reality you’re looking at Hb doing between 15-40k dmg
No, you’re looking at consistent ~21k damage every 6.5 seconds, assuming uniform distribution of damage range and crits.
Assuming you hit, okay.
And for the record Hb glass cannon is the worst build ever
No, it’s the most damaging build in-game.
And its squishy as hell. Damage doesn’t mean I R IS BESTEST otherwise BS thieves would rock dungeons. Don’t get defensive.
if you miss that charge you die
Absolutely not. Where did you come up with that? Missing Rush does NOT result in death.
Let me clarify, in PvP and Wv3 missing your rush with a Hb glass spec is death.
so full zerker armor on a warrior for a Hb build is just bad, especially for dungeons.
This conclusion isn’t inferred from your previous (and already wrong) statements.
I think you’re overly defensive, a Hb glass spec has low survivability which in turn means you die more in dungeons where dmg isn’t everything.
High damage is good but its no good if your party is carrying you through because you die non-stop.
[/quote]
You seem to forget Whirlwind Attack is an extra dodge and it also deals damage. If you trait into Leg specialist, you can follow up with Bladetrail after Whirlwind for 2sec immobilized with 8seconds of cripple if you angle it right. I’ve played with many 100Bs glass cannons in lots of dungeons. Squishy, yes. But an experienced glass cannon recognizes attack patterns better than most. Even if you can’t land all hits from 100Bs, you can always cancel out into whirlwind to follow em.
Raidium that build sounds pretty solid though I am yet to find any power/toughness/vitality gear where can this be obtained?
WvW vendors requires badges of honors, Ascalonian catacombs, Honor of The Waves dungeon, probably some other dungeons.
I run 20/0/20/30/0 with Power/Toughness/Vitality Armor(Soldier Runes), Cleric accessories and greatsword(Sigil of battle) Axe(Sigil of Force)+Shield(Sigil of Energy/Battle) on switch. You can maintain 15stacks of might using Signet of Rage and For Great Justice while switching weapons in combat. I also substitute Mace when I need control or Longbow when I need to attack from range.
Utilities = Shake it off, For Great justice, Balanced stance/Fear me/On the Mark
Strength = V, IX
Defense = II, IX
Tactics = VI, IX(If using warhorn) or VII VIII, XII

^ I agree, I just think we need something better than rush, something like leap of faith.
The problem isn’t having signets really, It’s not having slots for utilities like “Shake it Off” and “Balanced Stance” for break stun. I mean you can use 4 signets, I don’t mind but as long as you have a break stun utility to counter those control attacks, then you’re fine. I mean you can dodge as much as you want but you can only get enough endurance for 2 quick dodges, having break stuns on standby increases your survivability and also increases your sustained damage.
Considering that these sigils only work during the night, will it be restricted to Open world at night? Or will it also work in dungeons that are always night time like Acalonian Catacombs? I mean if they do, it’ll be awesome to synchronized these with Ghastly weapons knowing you can do 10% more damage when they glow!
I hate the cheezy weapon set
