Can we get a method to retrieve valuable runes from unsalvagable armour?

Old transmutation stones allowed to transfer valuable runes from karma / badge of honour, new transmutation charges – do not. Could we get back the other “functionality” of old transmutation stones – ability to transfer runes between armours (with the loss of source armour piece)? Even just ability to use Black Lion Salvage Kits to salvage what’s currently unsalvagable (e.g. lift the restrictions on BLSK) would be nice…

Perhaps one could extract runes with upgrade extractors (haven’t tested it), but as it’s cheaper to buy a new rune in the first place it’s not a viable solution. Had I known I’d be in this mess now, I’d have transfer out all my valuable runes from karma / wvw armours before wardrobe went live :/

Know troll by who? Where is his troll level registered? I have to ask, because I do not know him to be a troll. I mean, for all we know, he stole your girlfriend in high school and your holding a grudge.

Check his posts / threads in PvP forum. I’m not saying he’s a troll, he might be posting all that stuff genuinely after all. From what and how he posts I can see how he can be considered a troll by some people… And that is excluding his other two accounts.

As well, you do have a history of making claims about what “top” teams do that prove to be inaccurate. If your that in tune with what the top teams do, I am curious, how many of the top 25 teams have engineer? Who officially ranks these teams in the top 25? What roles do their engies play?

Top 25 players? Looking at NA leaderboards I instantly see 3 Engies – Steamhawke (#5), Woodstock (#10), and Jin (#19). Don’t recognise anyone one EU (which is sad as I play on EU).

Top 25 teams? How to judge them? EU teams, ESL week #5 finals – Team Eclipse – Jin, Engie (condi, p+s, rabid, bomb, nades, elixir gun, home bunker + mid support + occasional far decap). NA teams – Vision, Valor, Victory – Steamhawke, Engie (power, rifle, soldier, nades, thumper, mines, node fighter, far assaulter).

There’re many more, this by far is not a comprehensive list.

From PvE / WvW point of view – you can only get dyes, different finishers, and titles.

From PvP point of view – every game gives you glory (PvP currency) and rank points (instead of levels you have ranks that show how long you’ve played PvP). Amongst other, you can exchange glory for chests that contain PvP only items (armour / weapons), and sometimes glory booster or unidentified dye. The difference in equipment is only in looks, as all equipment is of same power.

There are 3 modes in PvP: hotjoin (in/out at any time), solo PvP (sPvP), and team PvP (tPVP). All give you glory and rank, last two also give you extra tournament chest if your team win. Also sPvP and tPvP include a waiting time (queue), as the team is assembled first.

You need to get at least bronze on ONE of portal events (kill one or few twisted mobs). You can AFK the rest of it — tested, works (got 3 most recent maps like that, getting harder to verify as I’m on 12/13 now and only get the maps I already did).

You DO NOT get a map counted if you focused only on Aetherblades / Moltens — also tested, even though the whole meta was success, I helped getting Scarlet, and we got her (got even the final reward) I did not increase my Invasion Canceller achievement.

Using PvP/WvW build:

  • Full Rabid eq (all exotic / ascended)
  • Traits 30/10/0/20/10
  • Pistol + Shield
  • Healing Turret, Bombs, Flamethrower, Tool Kit
  • New runes of perplexity

Strategy:
Magnet pull to speed up phase 1. Shield block + toolkit block when in pinch. Perma vigor + swiftness. Lots of interrupts on her to stack-up confusion, burn on criticial helps. Basically condition damage eats her up while you kite.

I love the 30 second loading screen.

But are there even 200 teams to populate the initial leader board in the first place? Even if there are, how many would there be? 300 teams? 1000 teams? By resetting the leader boards a #1001 could, for example, become 21% (due to small population).

Runes of Tormenting (1) CD damage (2) Torment Duration (3) CD damage (4) Chance to cause Torment on hit – vice versa for Perplexity. Not sure about Exhuberance yet.
Renewal is heal allies on weapon swap (180 radius), Malice and Bursting are both Condition Duration (4% on minor, likely 10% on superior).

You can see how many people are waiting on the NPC who you’ll need to talk to in order to get into the arena. Most fights will not actually take two minutes. The arena will admit the next person whenever someone wins or loses as well. Also there’s a lot of other stuff going on in the map. You guys should check it out before you jump to too many conclusions.

Even 2 minutes of waiting time will make people kitten. Especially if it turns out to be difficult and require a lot of attempts. If I had to wait 2 minutes before retrying Candidate Trial I’d give up…

About Queen Gauntlet and its Time

6 arenas, up to 75 people per instance of a Pavilon, up to 69 people in a queue. Assuming the queue is pooled, arenas are pruned at the same time (everyone starts at the same time, and finishes exactly 2 minutes after), the waiting time would be:

1-6: 0 minutes
7-12: 2 minutes
13-18: 4 minutes
19-24: 6 minutes
25-30: 8 minutes
31-36: 10 minutes
37-42: 12 minutes
43-48: 14 minutes
49-54: 16 minutes
55-60: 18 minutes
61-66: 20 minutes
72-2: 22 minutes (two people that started would re-enter now)

So 22 minutes is the worst case scenario – everyone rushes, queues and fights for full two minutes. It’s highly unlikely (except first day, when everyone is searching for a bug and a way to exploit it, like 60s JP reward last time). I expect waiting more like 10-15 minutes if I’m unlucky though…

Also the events are TIMED so for all we know each fight will only take 5 minutes at most (which would then put people back at the end of the queue I believe) so that shouldn’t really be much of an issue.

Assuming it’s 5 minutes, we have 6 arenas available, this gives 60 people per hour. 1,440 per day. 40,320 per whole event. 1,088,640 per whole EU or 967,680 per whole NA. And that’s assuming everyone does T1 only once, and not a single arena is empty at any time. Turned out to be a lot of assumptions ;P

Edit: After dev’s response, it doesn’t look that bad.

2 minutes per attempt is 30 attempts in an hour (more likely to be 25 due to map loading, or maybe some NPC chat). Across 6 arenas, that’s 180 attempts per hour. 75 people per instance of Pavilon, so if each queue that’s 2.4 attempts per hour per person (assuming FIFO queue). If it’s ultra popular, expect 20 minutes waiting between your attempts.

There’s still the issue of how available those entry tokens are…

why no instance like the candidate trials

  1. It will prevent (or rather slow down) people from finding a way around the system (see: soloing a T4 trial).
  2. It will prevent you from farming the Gauntlet (see: BBC news on Arena.net war against farming; latest news indicate thousands of slave farmers liberated from work camps in an unnamed country).
  3. It will keep you longer in game (also, if you really want to get those achievements, put your wife to sleep and log in at night). not due to the overflows
  4. If those entry tokens are scarce, it will “encourage” some people into buying them from Gem Store (I’m out of witty comments).
  5. It might be a slow balancing attempt on PvE population side (people that don’t WvW on stacked servers might be tempted to move to medium population servers). not due to the overflows

People seems to miss the fact, that soon COF p1 zerker runners will have other dungeons “sorted out”. Instead of repeating COF p1 10 times, they will start with it, jump to say AC p3 (my personal favourite when it comes to leveling chars), followed by COF p2, then jump to a different one and so on…

Soon they will give us a list of dungeon paths sorted by the time/skill required to finish it. Right now we know COF p1 is at the top (least time / skill needed).

I await the patch day, while already doing my COF p1 + p2 once a day on my two chars (for tokens)

HGH Grenadier = my fingers hurt, need lvl 70 (both Grenadier and HGH), wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. You chug Elixirs all the time to maintain as many stacks of might as possible, while rotating through your grenades and pistol cooldowns.

With level 20 you can play Bomber (you only need large bomb radius for it to work). Big’ol’Bomb, smoke and glue bombs – they give you some control. Add FT for even more control (another blind, cone push back). Equip shield too. You end up with some nice control abilities, combo fields as well as combo finishers. Really useful and versatile Engie

Damage on Grenades (traited, without HGH) is better than Bombs, but I prefer the later for their combo fields. Either way try to boost up your Condition Damage. Both Grenades and Bombs scale with power well.

My play style
Most of the time I run Pistol + Shield with Healing Turret, Bomb Kit, Flame Thrower and Rocket Boots in PVE. 10 in Tools for perma Swiftness (helps in travelling) and at least 20 in Explosives line (bomb radius, bomb cooldown, extra 10 points for Incendiary Ammo). Rest is up to you.

  • PvE
    FT on low level zones (DE, doing hearts, trash mobs) performs really well – you kill stuff with one to two channels. Later on you start to use FT for utility it gives. Pull up to 5 mobs, static shot, and bomb them (SS blinds, smoke bomb helps you mitigate their damage even further, finally if they are not dead PBAoE blind from FT). Unless with a friend or two, I don’t bother combo-ing my fields (except for Healing in emergency). Learn to always pick up your Healing Turret after overcharge.
  • World bosses
    Ranged autoattack works most of the time. When extra healing / condi removal might be needed – remove whatever you think will be least useful and take Elixir Gun.
  • Temples
    Elixir Gun is useful here again, autoattack to keep Lyssa or Dwayna weakened + small heal. Remember you have AoE heal through Healing Turret (and blast finishers). As soon as you pick up your Healing Turret the water field disappears.
  • Dungeons
    Easy ones, just like PvE (especially if a lot of skipping is involved, Rocket Boots <3). Harder ones – Elixir Gun again (show your party what great support you can give). When in melee you’ll be using boms, offloading pistol on cooldowns. If you need range, take EG (better autoattack than pistol). Try to inform your team of fire field and need for blast finishers (AoE might stacks).

Honorable mentions

  • CM p(forgot which one, the one you need to destroy the gate): if you don’t have a thief in party (you can sneak in stealth and drop explosives near the gate), use bombs and full turrets. Drop turrets, smoke bomb, blast shield, blast turrets. AoE stealth just like shadow refugee.
  • Arah p4 or, how to make an impact on Simin: You need to have 30 in Explosives (shrapnel, grenades cooldown, grenadier) and be the guy that sits on south spark spawn (in case you haven’t tried it yet, you have two runners: north that gets 3 sparks, and south that gets 2 sparks – e.g. YOU, as well as 3 DPSers on Simin). With 1500 range you can easily reach her while being close to sparks when they pop. Change to Riffle for better power scaling. With Condition Duration food you end up with a lot of stacks of bleeding and 25 stacks of vulnerability (that’s extra 25% incoming damage for each of the other 3 guys).

PvP / WvW
Look for Teldo’s node fighter build, PvE section uses part of this build. You can also use his full PvP build for all of the above.

5v5 hotjoin – spent one whole match on the cannon on the new map. Got me 411 points (4 times the next player). Got only one player that tried to take me off, once he fell down (knocked back) I never saw him again. Having said that, that was the most boring game I had.

My point is: ignore the points, play what gives you most fun. It’s a game after all. If you play tPVP though, forget what I said. Play what gives your team the win

Yes Big bomb then smoke stand there and even if bomb hits it’ll stealth you.

It gets you revealed. Plenty of evidence on Twitch or just test it in the mists. You can blow-up healing turret (2.5k heal wasted) or use Rocket Boots.

Wonderful map.

  1. Shifts build from DPS / condition overload to CC / positioning (fresh change). Takes time to adapt, unless you played CC heavy class.
  2. The map IS competitive. There is no RNG involved, you have to outplay and out-position enemies. Requires much more skills IMHO than typical DPS/condition overload, as you also need to be aware of positioning AND potential CC abilities of your foe.

It behaves like a hotjoin game (you join to an already started game, roll over to another game) while it should behave like a tournament game (you start a fresh game, wait for players to assemble, get out to main map after a race).

Please fix it!

Temporary solution: I just leave the game, and rejoin it through NPC till I get one with enough time to finish it (preferable the one that’s just started) or the one that ends soon (so can roll to a fresh race).

13k heal from engy heal combo is indeed a bit too strong imo and ofc that spec can still get nasty damage from burn on crit trait.

With 0 healing power, drop + overcharge heals for ~2.5k each. If Engie drops a finisher in the water field – that’s an extra ~1.3k heal (AoE for blast, single for leap). To get to 13k, he’d have to drop at least 6 finishers.

As for scaling, the coefficient are: 0.5 for drop/overcharge, 0.2 for blast finisher (AoE heal), and again 0.5 for leap finisher (self heal). With 1000 HPow, that gives: ~3k heal for drop or overcharge, 1.5k for blast, and 1.8k for leap. So you save 1 finisher, you still need 5 on top of drop+overcharge.

That Engie just blew 5-6 skills for blast finishers and his healing utility! His turret is on a 20 sec cooldown, and he’s a virtually a sitting (or more likely running away) duck. Perfect to burst him down now.

And they get to your point in stealth and can get away the same way

He’s got limited number of finishers. Stealth is 3s per finisher, and you need to choose and time wisely – be far away or use those that don’t do damage (or face revealed).

Bleed+weakness+burn on autos. So lovely for any meleechars trying to nuke him. :’(

Elixir gun, with Incendiary Ammo trait. Burn triggers every 10s on a crit, most likely he will be wearing Rabid then – no HPow for him. Weakness is only 1s, he has to stay in EG and keep on auto attacking you to keep it up (and it’s only single target). Stun, blind, knock back/down, daze (we have no stability) and then burst down – once he misses his auto attack, you’re (almost) out of weakness.

There is a WvW oriented guild on BT called Bt War. It’s full of people from different guilds, and they represent it only when they play WvW. That’s probably why you see “60% of zerg from one guild”.

I’m not sure whether they talk on guild chat, squad chat, or map chat so cannot comment about “silent commanding”.

Even before patch Top rated engi’s had started to move away from hgh builds. you can see the builds here http://forums.intothemists.com/index.php?/topic/46-top-gw2-tournament-builds/

Checked all Engie builds there. There’s more HGH + Grenadier builds (minor variations) than other flavours. Most common build across teams was: Grenades, Elixir B and Elixir R.

As this is pre-patch list, let’s see if loosing R will force some change.

Removing downed state would help the undermanned side to feel they can do something before the zerg facerolls them.

Hmm, Overmanned (opposite of Outmanned) debuff ? Debuffed side wouldn’t have a downed state… Sounds hilarious

Did JP yesterday ~11pm UK time. It’s 10pm UK time now, but the chest is still open. Not sure if I did pre or post 11pm (midnight UTC) though.

Turret conditions will scale with your Condition Damage, other stats does not though. Three major problems with turrets in WvW are: immobility (WvW being too dynamic), terrible AI (targeting flies and UFOs instead of your enemies), and very low health pool (any AoE sneeze will break them). As such they are not widely used.

Having said that, they are often overlooked in small scale fights, not really sure if they are that useful to give up one utility slot. They are pretty good in duels (net turret can mess your enemy up), and next to useless in zerg fights.

The most useful turret is Healing Turret though, which gives you two water fields, heals you (~2.5k), heals your allies (overcharge, ~2.5k), gives regeneratino, and can be exploded for self-combo (giving you another AoE heal, ~2k).

I was wondering if pvt gear would do well on an Engineer, or even a mix of zerker/pvt.

Berserker as a mix (as OP asked), not full gear. In my opinion any berserker gear in WvW will still do you more harm than good (although one engineer friend of mine mixes some in his SD build with good success).

Most engineer builds are condition oriented. We have loads of conditions that we can apply and reapply. Personally, I’d run berserker thief and use condition engineer.

In a nutshell, check:
For PVT / berserker engineer – Riffle + static discharge.
For condition engineer – PP HGH + grenadier, PP HGH + tool kit, or PS + multiple kits.

Trait and skill wise, both are good HGH builds. Tool kit version is great for roaming (see Maskaganda’s videos), while Grenades would more suit zerg / group / siege game play.

As above, I’d use more Rabid gear – especially in the Grenades variant, where you don’t have gear shield (useful for draining initiative from pesky thieves); the extra toughness really helps.

Unlike above, I’d stick to boon duration runes – you DO want longer boons from Elixir B and auto-elixir B (75% hp, gives retaliation) and elixir H (gives protection). 50% condition duration (10% from traits, 40% from food) is enough.

So apart from going more Rabid (preferably full), I’d select a build that suits your game play more. Personally I’d choose tool kit as I like to have control (and that confusion!).

P.S. Going full Rabid allows you to reuse your gear for a non-HGH, yet condition based builds. And at one point you will want to move away from HGH, as it’s really boring ;D

I sympathize with game developers. There really is no pleasing anyone.

There’s a difference in adding a confirmation to an item you buy once per month as opposed to an item you buy “in thousands”. Many people are stacking this event food for a long term use, and this is just plain PIA. If it’s cheap, there should be no confirmation at all.

As it is now, I almost gave up on stocking food. I’m just doing it once food stack at a time (1250 zhaitaffies), every now and then. So much fun…

It’s intentional and the time you need to wait is 24h. They changed chests from one per character to one per account.

Considering that rare veggie pizza is ~4s, the proper price for kois should be more like 2.5s (2/3rds of pizza’s price). As long as it’s below that, money savvy people will buy kois.

And if not, as a condition engineer, I’ll have enough to last for a year ;D

I move the merchant window so that the buy button appears in the same location as the confirmation button. That way, it’s just a double click for purchase: no mouse movement necessary!
