I have 3 level 80,s spent in excess of $500 in the cash shop.

Since you spent so much money in the cash shop (god knows on what, or why you would do that), and the game has only been out 3 months or so, you have already given them more then any subscription MMO in history.

$60 initial cost + $500 cash shop \ 3 months is approx $187 a month. That is roughly 11 times what any subscription based MMO charges.

I think people like this should be ashamed for being suckered so badly and rewarding a company for this.

How does Guild Wars 2 make money?

Razamis.1062

I can’t believe anyone would drop money in this game for gems. You get everything you need just from playing the game, there is absolutely no reason to buy gems.

If you are dropping $50/month into this game when it isn’t needed, perhaps you should give some of that wasted money to charity.

I find it sick how some players can proudly boast how much they spend in the gem store. Like most players, I haven’t spent a dime in the gem store and never intend to.

Yes, by far most people skip it.

Look at what happened with SWTOR, players started skipping the wonderfully voice acted quests, just to get back to playing the actual game. Honestly? I dont blame them.

Why the need to make everyone PvP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Razamis.1062

The answer is easy.

Arenanet does not charge a monthly fee for Guild Wars 2, and so that means they have no where near the amount of monthly income that a top tier MMO has.

This lack of income translates directly into lack of content, or rather a slower pace of content development.

PvP is content that keeps going and going, you dont “complete” pvp. Therefore PvP is the best way to keep long term interest in your game even when you content updates are few and far between due to lack of monthly income.

Is GW2 as successful as you hoped?

Well my point was that numbers are generally skewed all over the place. Active accounts are not easily counted if we’re comparing old numbers to new. I’m basing my numbers on the absolutely requirement to continue playing WoW you MUST buy the MoP expansion. So it might be 3-4 million instead of 2.7, but I certainly don’t think it’s close to 10 million.

No, 10 million is active paying and playing accounts. Everyone plays at a different pace and not everyone is ready for the expansion, this is normal for online games. There has not been an MMO ever that has had 10% of the player base purchase the expansion immediately. It will happen over time. There is a load of content in WoW remember, and thus there is no rush for some players to get the expansion until they need it. There is no number skewing, its 10 million active paying playing accounts.

I assume you are talking about the kung fu panda expansion. For a game that had over 10 million active players about a year ago, 2.7 milllion isn’t perhaps what you would hope for.

Actually thats the way expansions work for any game, not all the original player base purchase the expansion immediately because everyone plays at different pace, which means that some people are still not done with the previous expansions content and are not in any rush to get the new one. 30% of the player base bought MoP and it hasnt even been released in China yet (where millions more will likely purchase it), no, those numbers are just fine.

So hang on. GW2 has been out a month and has already managed 2/3rds of the WoW accounts (presuming of course that the current WoW players would have bought the expansion in the first week anyway- as it is required to keep playing)

I’d say that’s pretty massive. And I somehow doubt that Anet were expecting to topple the giant on day one.

No..

2.7 million are first week sales of the expansion, and that does not include china. The actual number of active accounts are over 10 million.

So GW2 is at 1/5 of that, however GW2 has lost a lot of players since release and I highly doubt their active accounts are even half of their 2 million box sales. So in reality its probably 1/10th and declining from there.

Anyone who thought it was going to kill WoW or come close was delusional.

Arenanet themselves said that they would not be happy with GW2 unless they were #1, meaning, dethroned WoW.

They clearly have come no where close to that, but they certainly did think it was going to happen, or at least hoped very strongly enough to make a public announcement about it.

Ask that question 6 months from now. Polishing isn’t yet finished.

GW2 is not in beta right? its released, it should already be in a polished state. Arenanets thing was “we wont release it until its ready”. Well, its released, so either its ready… or they lied.

That being said, after 34 days (the omg gw2 is out rush) is already over, I don’t forsee the game taking off much more then it already has, from here its a decline. We will see in 6 months I guess.

What does the popularity of a game matter to my own enjoyment? I don’t give a kitten if Guild Wars 2 is the #1 MMO in the world or a quiet little hamlet home to underpopulated servers.

It matters a lot actually, or at least it should.

If you enjoy a game, and it is not successful, investors and companies will look to other designs and you will see less of the type of game that you like.

On the flip side, if a game is highly successful, you will see a lot more of it.

The popularity of a game matters for future production of more games like that game. However, a lot of people are far too short sighted or self focused to realize things like this.

2 million sales in just a month and you’re thinking this game did bad? What drugs are you on? Thats fantastic in the market industry and it’s a brand new MMO, not an expansion for a game people already know about. WoW didn’t become king instantaneously, dude.

Please point me to where I said GW2 did bad? or that 2 million boxes sold was bad?

The point is, more people seem interested in the MMO that GW2 wanted to paint as stale/dying, etc.. and when more people purchase the old way, it should make you question the mission success of the new way (gw2).

To me, I do not see this game catching on, I think most of its sales have been made, and now players head back to their traditional MMOs.

Has Guild Wars 2 been worth your $60.00?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Razamis.1062

Razamis.1062

GW2 the game alone, taking out all outside influences and factors.. yes it was worth $60 to pick up, play for a month and then shelf the game just like any old console game.

GW2 as an MMO, and what effects (if any) it could have on the mmo genre? no it was not worth the $60, and from this perspective I wish I had not purchased the game, because the last thing I want to do is send a message to game companies that this kind of thing is ok for an MMO, when it is clearly not. I feel GW2 is a great game but a terrible MMO. When it comes to MMOs, a traditional style MMO with actual end game (continued character progresson, not necessarily raiding) is more rewarding and interesting to most people.

Razamis.1062

GW2 wanted to take the #1 spot for MMO games. It wanted to paint competition as stagnant, stale, dying, while at the same time showing everyone that it was the revolution in MMOs and would change the genre moving forward.

34 days later, Guild Wars 2 is roughly at 2 million boxes sold.

Sales figures for another certain unnamed games expansion pack alone after 7 days (not including china sales) are already at 2.7 million, nearly 50% above GW2.

So the “dying” “stale” MMO is out selling the “revoluton” “genre changing” MMO by leaps and bounds, and maintaining a vastly greater population.

What does this mean to you? To me, it seems to hint at, although not for sure, that GW2 was not the revolution or genre changer that it had hoped, and that people still prefer the traditional style of MMO.

This is not to say that some features of GW2 are a great idea, and could likely be incorporated into the traditional MMO style, but I might say that GW2 possibly threw the baby out with the bath water with regards to just how much they changed, and it was not good for their success.

Thoughts?

What does "END GAME" mean to you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Razamis.1062

  • End Game means having meaningful character progression continue once you are level capped. **

Its that simple. This may or may not be done through raids, but it most certainly cannot take the GW2 route and just stop progression all together at 80, that is a fatal mistake that has already cost them a lot of players.

You don’t need anyone else’s definition because this is the correct one.

MMO games have a second part to that acronym, RPG.

Meaningful character progression has been the hallmark, one of the foundational pillars of role playing games since Dungeons and Dragons really got everything going.

This is not going to change. GW2 basically guts this entire pillar of RPGs and is suffering drastically for it.

Do not throw the baby out with the bath water when you innovate. Its as simple as that. Honestly, at this point, I have to say better luck next time.

This game has decent PvP, but I feel a little left out in the cold via the PvE department. Anyone have any suggestion on what I could do to fill that void?

Yes, I have already lost interest and thats why I am back in World of Warcraft, just in time for Mists of Pandaria today!

GW2 has been out 3 weeks. So chill, and worry not. Stick around and discover how the Masters create a truly epic game!

The masters? in my books that is a position/title that you have to earn, and respect should be earned as well.

As you point out, GW2 has been out for 1 month now, arenanet has not proven themselves at all at this point. Blizzard has had the #1 spot for over 7 years now, that is earning it. If anyone is to be called the masters, it has to be Blizzard, not arenanet, and that is objectively looking at this.

Now maybe GW2 will be the game everyone hopes it will become and they will take the throne, but that task is FAR from complete currently. Especially with Mists of Pandaria releasing today, arenanet is not out of the woods yet, they need to really work if they want to achieve #1 spot, because that spot still current, objectively, belongs to Blizzard.

Am i the only one, beginning to get a bit bored with GW2?

First of all. No i didnt rush to lvl 80. I came lvl 80 this thursday.

Now that im 80, i just really dont know what to do.
Sure i could “grind” dungeons for tokens to buy gear. But dungeons just isnt that fun.
Exploring areas is alright, until youve done done it for a while, then its kinda lame aswell.
PvP is cool, but doing the same gamemode over and over again is just boring.
There isnt really anything to achieve in this game, if you know what i mean.

ArenaNet doesnt seem to give any news or updates, on what they are working on.
Sure they say once in a while what they have “fixed” but nothing else.
It may be because its F2P, that, thats their excuse. But im telling you guys, this game will soon be losing players, alot of players, if ArenaNet doesnt soon give us some “News”.

Please GW2 Fanboys, dont get all mad. It can be that its only me, and that maybe MMO’s are just losing my interest, or i dunno.

What do you guys think?

Your absolutely correct, there is nothing to do at level cap, its not just you. This game is hemorrhaging players rapidly.

I could never play MMO, where:
1) Meeting another player in the same area is a nuisance to me, rather than a welcome sight
2) You have to pay monthly fee

These two I can agree on.
Monthly fees especially. I simply can’t see myself paying monthly again. That concept might have worked in the past when I played UO and with WoW in 2005, but not anymore.

10.2 million active subscribers on WoW and more when Mists of Pandaria comes out in 2 weeks, seems to completely disagree with you.

Just becuase you are either cheap or poor, doesnt mean everyone else is.

You get what you pay for in life, and GW2 being free certainly shows. When you are level 80 and there is nothing to do in PvE, and the broken SPVP system putting friends on other teams then other friends due to auto balancing, and WvW queue times being outrageous..

Yeah.. I will take the sub fee gladly. I pay for quality, and I get that with WoW, and others get that from other games. So dont act as if this Fail Wars 2 is some kind of revolution, when it really isnt.

Razamis.1062

The game’s philosophy of combat and profession design is controlled chaos. Instead of going through the motions, you constantly adapt to ever-changing situation, coordinate with your team on the fly and exploit new opportunities.

Game doesn’t punish you for playing, but for playing bad – and that comes from wrong assessment of the situation you’re in, endangering you and your team, potentially leading to failure.

Even then, game is nice enough to let you respawn and face the challenge again, having adjusted your weapons loadout, skills and traits, or even going back to town to repair equipment.

Trying to impose an arbitrary order in the game, pigeon-holing entire professions into “healers”, “DPSers” or “tanks” or particular builds based on that false distinction is simply wrong.

It fails at all of these designs. There is no punishing for playing bad because the zerg will just down everything even if you face roll your keyboard pressing #1 over and over, you will win every event and get gold in it most likely.

I’d love crafting similar to either FFXI or FFXIV, crafting in FFXI was rewarding since it took a few moments per craft and you had the chance to fail, get normal result or produce a HQ item.
Cause this POWER Crafting is not very good in my opinion, what do you guys think?

I agree it is not good.

GW2 follows a mentality of “make everything easy for everyone and let everyone have everything with little to no effort”

The result?

Nothing you get really matters.

Look sometimes something being hard earned and taking a lot of time is a VERY good thing. Human psychology 101.

GW2 is already getting old and its only a bit over 2 weeks old. Yeah, back to WoW for my guild, this game will not be the long term MMO we were hoping for.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Razamis.1062

Absolute chaos.

This is supposed to be better? No order, no cc, crazy mobs with never ending cc running around all over the place randomly picking targets, kitten npc’s, and this is freedom?

How is dying over and over just to respawn to go back to the same fight challenging? It is just chain rezzing and chain respawning. I was expecting so much more from this, but in truth the dungeons are horrible.

I know you can jump on skype and try to chain your cc’s together but that will not stop a ranger from kicking your entire team 20 times in 1 fight because there is no solid cc.

The holy trinity was there for a reason. It worked. It gave order and an accepted challenge for each roll to accomplish. I don’t mind innovative thinking or trying new things, but it was just ridiculous. I would even say we had a good group and we did complete the dungeon, but it was even worse than any other mmo dungeon I have played.

Maybe I am missing something, but I will take my holy trinity back any day. Good thing this game is spot in for questing and pvp.

EXACTLY, the trinity is a lot more fun, more interesting dungeon encounters can be designed under that system too.

Under GW2 system its just 1 shot fests and graveyard rushes until the boss dies. really? tank and spank everything.

Mists of Pandaria cannot come soon enough honestly, that is a lot more fun and skillful then the mindless zerg playstyle that this game encourages. Also items have actual meaning in WoW, unlike GW2.

As the title says, I was doing CM with some friends, and we started discussing how odd it would feel to go back to a standard MMO like Everquest, WoW and Rift, where you can’t dodge and evade the enemies attacks.

Where you have to go to the bank or a vendor, when your bags are full.

Where there’s no rewards for helping other people.

Where you can’t change your whole playstyle instantly.

Well there’s alot more stuff Guild Wars does excellent compared to other mmos, lots off small things and features I now take for granted.
I know, I can’t enjoy another “standard” MMO anymore, and whether you really like Guild Wars 2 or not, the time in Guild Wars 2 is gonna leave a mark. So, could you go back to a “standard” MMO after GW2?

Hope you understand the question, and sorry for my english. -.-

Are you kidding? GW2 is a little over 2 weeks old and already people are level capping and finding that there is absolutely nothing to do in this game.

People are already leaving for their old MMOs, my entire guild included. We are heading back to WoW for Mists of Pandaria in 10 days.

GW2 was a fun ride, but its not a serious long term MMO.

I have queued 30 minutes before a guildie who logged on and then queued and he got in first.

Either the queues are incredibly buggy (which i doubt since this is the most major part of their game), or they have some elitist mentality about people jumping the line because of gear or level or time played, and if thats the case, so much for the only thing to do at level cap for those who only have a bit of time each night to play.

What to do with lvl 80?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Razamis.1062

Razamis.1062

There is not much at all to do at 80 if you are only interested in PvE. Unfortunately for the PvE players of this game (which I would imagine are the majority of players, just like in any MMO), Arenanet did not let you know how little there would be waiting at level cap.

Also, no matter how many alts you create, there are only three personal stories in this game. The durmand Piory, The order of Whispers, and the Vigil, and of course the minor first 20 levels of racial background story. There are not nearly the amount of differing stories that arenanet let on.

I was under the impression that you could make 10 alts and have different stories every time, but that is not the case, there are three main paths, for everyone. Disappointing.

End game content doesn't necessarily mean pve grind.

in Players Helping Players

Look this is what it comes down to. What character progression do you have available to you at level 80? The answer is skins, and that is quite simply not enough to keep most people interested, and that is the problem.

Its not what is there to do, its what is there to do that can progress your character.

Character Progression, the staple of RPGs since Dungeons & Dragons pen and paper. Guild Wars 2 does not understand this and really ends up shooting itself in the foot.

yes, this is not the pvp game you were looking for. WoW pvp was much more fast paced, fluid, and had better controls. Compared to that, GW2 combat feels lagged, due to animation lag, due to the design of giving the opponent time to dodge. It comes at too high of a cost.

Look is not a carrot.

Once you have a look you like why bother to unlock the other 50 millions looks? they are no longer rewards at that point.

Plus, who wants a sims dressup simulator, since when did that become ok for MMO rewards? No, looks are a side thing, not a main thing. WoW has transmogrify as well, but it also has actual rewards.

GW2 is not going to last the majority of players very long because of its mentality of “oh look, heres another skin”. Character progression is needed in MMOs, and gw2 does not have it, and it is a problem.

I am looking forward to seeing what the population thinks after the casuals have had enough time to all be 80 and realize this.

Warp, on these forums you will only mostly get people who are going to defend the game regardless of any good points made. You just have to decide for yourself.

This also doesnt bring into account the delayed combat animations which make combat feel laggy compared to WoW where combat is fast, smooth, and fluid. Heck just try jump turn shoot kiting on a ranger in this game, not fluid enough to pull that off.

There is infact tons of endgame if you actually take off those very narrow glasses… Endgame does not mean wheres my shiny loot. Hit h go down 5 tabs to achievements and pick a spot to start. Those of you who rushed by the content to 80 to complain really need to learn that due to the way GW/ANET approaches endgame you infact have WAY more content. You just refuse to see it as theres no shiny piece of gear with uber stats.

I know what is there, and those achievements are not fun like the WoW achievements are. Not to mention GW2 entire achievement system is invalidated by the fact that achievement points can be earned by dailies and monthlies. Which means that in GW2, someone who only did dailies for a long time could have more achievement points then someone who actually did all the actual achievements. Achievement point gain should never be repeatable, it wrecks the system.

My glasses are not narrow, I am not talking only about loot, but I know when there is no real character prorgression to be bad, and here there is not.

There is NOT in anyway more content in GW2 then there currently is in WoW. Sorry but there is not. That was just anets marketing. Endgame does not start at level 1. As for me rushing.. really? Just wait two weeks, you will see loads of people at 80.

As for tips for newbies:

1) Be sure to harvest everything you see, trees, ore, small claws, save them all. You will need these for trade skills, and trade skills is the fastest way to level up in this game, and also gives you great gear. At max level when you are trying for legendaries, you will also need crafting, so all around its a good idea to grab as much materials as you play the game as you can.

Best advice, is don’t give up on WoW for GW2. GW2 is a shiny new toy, but it is rather quick to lose its luster as there is absolutely no PvE end game aside from grinding out skins, which most people are not going to care about more then one set. PvP likewise is better done in WoW.

That being said, I also play a restoration druid on live WoW servers. There is nothing at all like that in this game.

I am enjoying the mesmer class right now, its quite different, you may enjoy that. Its more mage like, but hey.. you can always log onto WoW for the resto druid experience right? =)

Inability to queue for WvW as a group (with friends) is really bad!

The inability to queue for WvW as a group is really bad. It means that My wife and I can log in with an hour to play.. we both queue for WvW at the same time, I will get in and ideally start having fun, meanwhile she will have to sit there and watch me while she waits another 30 minutes to get in and join me.

The problems are:

1) splitting group members (friends/family) into different entry queues = bad

2) the WvW queues are not working right. Sometimes the person who queues second gets in first. I have tested this and I know its not working right.

Very frustrating when WvW is the main thing you are looking at doing at 80.

Simply because not everyone knows this forum is up yet. I am also willing to bet D3 sold a lot more copies which means more people to complain.

Dont think GW2 doesnt have its problems, the cracks are many, they are just well concealed, players will be discovering them within the next few weeks im sure.

Either way, this is not the right place for this post. This is for fan content, you want https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players
