Haha kinda amusing to see all the BG players complaining now…you guys threw a match and now its not resetting…ohh isn’t it ironic?..Good luck being in tier 2 for a long time since Kaineg is coming up and you will probably never gain ratings.

Not even complaining bro; JQ has coverage that is unmatched and with free transfers over i doubt they will be trumped from the throne anytime soon. I hope exploiting SBI’s rating was worth it, because now you’ll be in third place for a very, very long time…

Because BG never took advantage of seriously outmanning their opponents servers on it’s rise to tier 1 right? The obligatory “bro” doesn’t hide the fact that you are whining.

the point is that the vast majority of the time a faction moves up or down a tier is due to imbalance caused by direct player manipulation (bandwagoning or leaving a server)

your point about BG outmanning opponents to move up is further evidence. we belong in t1 every now and then. in fact, we beat SoR every time we faced them and SoR is in t1.

despite a dominant showing in t2 265k against 179k 162k…. we actually lose rating because we’re not blowing them out. we’re 150 rating above our opponents, and t1 is at a further 75 rating ahead of us.

the glicko system is flawed. i mention BG because im on it and i know the factions in our power range. im sure the same flaws happen throughout the rankings.

anet needs to AT LEAST change the scoring so that a dominate, but not a blowout, victory allows the victor to GAIN rating from lower rated servers.

TL DR
the ranking/scoring system must be altered so that winning factions move up, and losing factions move down, despite large rating difference between tiers. just a small tweak to the scoring will have the effect.

BG has already been in T1 a couple of times and failed to keep its position there. BG has placed 3rd in T1 every week it has been there except for maybe 1 week a long time ago. I’d say the system is working as intended.

so placing third means a faction should move down? i agree.

logically then….

placing first should also mean a faction moves up.

currently the only method for moving up from t2 to t1 is a blowout of some sort in t1 or t2. this only happened because player transfers were free.

take a look at SoR. we consistently beat them. yet they are solidly in t1 because they happened to be in the right spot when SBI imploded and SoR earned a tonne of rating from them. the TRUE ranking could be argued to currently be JQ first then BG then SoR. but we’ll never see that because we’ll never get out of t2.

if you think BG doesnt deserve some time in t1, then neither does SoR, and youve got a problem because t1 matchup needs 3 factions.

even if ratings dont get reset the math needs to change.

my server blackgate NA for example. we are in t2. we have significant ratings over everyone else who is in t2. the other factions in t2 are decent quality…. but we beat them week in and week out.

shouldnt we move up in ranking? according to the system which apparently works now, the answer is NO

no matter what happens in t1 ( as long as it isnt a blowout) all t1 factions will remain at higher rating…. look at the scores now, the losing faction is GAINING RATING.

the average rating in t1 is somewhere around 2160

blackgate LOSES rating for a SIGNIFICANT win in tier 2.

throughout the history of matchups the only way matchups significantly changed was due to direct player involvement. players “bandwagoning” off a server that was losing was the only way the server would drop rating. now that free transfers are over NA bracket will be very stagnant after about 2 matchups. kaineng is the only wild card. they will most likely move up to t2 with us because of player transfers that happened before free transfers was over.

my prediction: in 3 months guild wars 2 will have had many tiers with the same matchups lasting for months and months.

WE WANTED ratings reset and a new math system for the change…. but we would have liked 1 day matchups for 1 week to shuffle the rankings faster.

this is an inappropriate response to player complaints. we need changes to glicko, just not too major of a change, and a reset probably would have been acceptable with 1 day matches.

scrapping the entire idea because of short term negative effects is not a good long term strategy. in 3 months when factions havent moved up or down a tier in 1-2 months youll hear of complaints of stagnation …. people will get bored, too bored to complain in forums and instead theyll simply slowly stop playing.

TL DR
should have kept the changes but made 1 day matchups for a week to help the ratings to settle faster.

if you think BG only wins due to coverage…. imagine what whining and gnashing of teeth would be heard on the forums if you were to beat t2 and move up to t1. last time i was in t1… they had competent 24/7 coverage on all maps.

if your server gets beaten in non NA timezones…. then you simply HAVE to dominate in NA prime. blackgate doesnt whine about not having NA coverage. we simply do our best to hold what we can during NA time.

If you cant fully dominate your best timezone…. you’re going to have a hard time.

Remove WvW Badges from JP.

Black gate wins the tier 2 sloppy joe award seiging hills in SoR for 2 hours got it(because of tactical mistakes that are being amended, WvW took control of the fight late >.<), while giving IoJ there tower, then forgot to clean house!

we didnt forget to mesmer sweep, i had a full group dedicated to that task since the moment we captured it.

and you guys didnt make tactical mistakes, you were simply out played. treb from stargrove, with multiple scouts…. counter treb was counter ballistaed, catapulted inner gate with multiple catas that were shielded to give extra time to kill the counter catas. all but 1 mortar taken down before sieging inner. mesmers assigned to portal in reinforcements etc.

it was done with a small core of LotD and mostly BG allies following my orders and performing very well. its a pleasure playing on BG. all during NA primetime which is our weak spot in coverage.

SoR mesmer outplayed us in the end, but the whole siege was a lot of fun…. quite rare to take an upgraded and defended hills keep.

pretty sure i have footage of it, ill have a go at trying to post it tomorrow…. then youll see how few we really were and yet we still flipped it.

Ain’t tactics fun? I see nothing wrong with it though. Its a great use of abilities. Also, several other classes have similar anti projectile spells.

yes, but they were nerfed to not block siege weapon projectiles. swirling winds and i guess thief smoke slipped through the cracks.

the rule should be applied consistently. imo smart artillery use is the primary means a small group of players can outplay a large group of players. giving a player skill to negate artillery reduces smart gameplay down to “just have eles block it”

garrison trebs attacking bay keep is a primary example. 10 organized players can run up, making sure they are undetected and build a treb in open field to kill the garrison trebs. having eles on garrison trebs just negates the smart artillery use, and allows the zerg plenty of time to get rolling and react. a smart faction trebbing from garrison would have scouts posted at those location so the garrison trebs can be turned around before the defenders even build the counter treb.

I’d like more forewarning before WvW gets shut down due to a routine maintenance patch.

Players would be a LOT less annoyed if we could PLAN for this to happen. I can understand if you need to instantly patch an exploit…. but for expected normal patches, please leave us some warning.

advice from a blackgate commander….

fight defensive, fortify towers first. THEN attack. flip supply camps a minute or two before the timer. send people to defend yours at that time as well. do NOT leave a supply camp without defense if you are planning on getting supply yaks from it. they will kill yaks and flip camps 24/7

never let up on sbi, they will have a weak weekend showing, and then they will pull ahead on weekday coverage.

play the metagame… dont piss off one faction if you do not intend to follow through and take and hold things. do that and you’ll have somewhat less 2v1. jq and sbi leave each other alone the vast majority of the time…. any reprieve you can get to restock your supplies you should take.

Only a 2% stat bonus? Its effects on WvW.

you’re talking about the ascended gear? or the stats bonus bug?

if its about the ascended gear….

ill also point out that 2% is one extra person in a zerg of 50. organization and coordination has always been PRIMARY in wvw.

if you want to be better than someone farming ascended gear…. SHOW UP in wvw.

showing up gives a player a 100% stat bonus in wvw.

far far too many people focus on gear and not on skill, or coordination.

ive said this before as well, HoD should be locked out…. the graph of queue times alone shows that they probably have the players to field TWO top tier servers themselves. bearing the brunt of 2 factions on the weekend and not only surviving but DOMINATING once the week comes around proves this.

someone responded to my previous post and said “but but HoD is locked out”

no, its not…. not for any significant time period. in about 3 days of checking it morning midday and evening…. HoD has been locked twice, and “high” the rest of the time.

JQ and IoJ are full right now oddly enough.

players flocking to winning server is killing gw2, and has killed mmos in the past…. aion is my main experience with the phenomenon. no amount of asking players on winning server to transfer is going to work. or at least it didnt in aion, maybe gw2 players are smarter and actually want competition in wvw.

and heres the real problem…. anet will likely put in 1500 gems cost to transfer…. that wont actually solve anything, people will still transfer to HoD.

its actually getting to the point now where HoD needs to be deleted, and players on that server sent randomly to other servers but with their guild. if HoD wins the next 2-3 matches where a full alliance is declared and 2 v 1 HoD…. and they win…. that will completely kill wvw for whatever servers are currently on matchup with HoD.

please anet, lock down HoD permanently until further notice.

there have been many threads and posts pointing out the problems with transfers.

as more people buy gw2 HoD’s GROWTH WILL STOP because the server is full and the OTHER SERVERS WILL FILL UP.

HoD has the most massive queue times and is NOT FULL. transfers are STILL FREE.

but yes, it would be brilliant if what you described was actually happening.

thats not how it works in reality. the winning factions players get bored less easily than the losing factions players. this trend continues for a very long time…. i played aion for a year and yes, while the elyos players got bored and left, new players came and stayed for longer than asmos got new players that stayed active for short times.

if HoD does not lose this match, and wins the next match while being fully 2 v 1ed….. you will see this start to happen. some HoD players will get bored…. but it doesnt matter because the queue is large enough. all other top factions will start throwing the match when they play HoD.

i STILL dont understand why HoD isnt locked out at FULL….. and cant transfer to it. there should in the very least be a sliding scale transfer cost, want to transfer to the top server? sure, but PAY lots of money. whatever is done, HoD is obviously full of WvW players and could probably field a full WvW team with half its current players. why allow transfers there?

transfers should have been locked within a week or 2 of launch. 1-2 more matches of HoD victory and the problem will be completely irreversible without massive changes.

this bandwagon effect ruined aion (in addition to other problems with aion) however gw2 promises to have a 2 v 1 balancing effect to prevent uber factions like aion…. but wait! HoD can handle it and even plainly dominate during the week.

there is one solution players can reasonably do. TA, when anet announces the end of free transfers you should transfer to a medium pop server (not ET). dont announce youre going to do it, and complete it an hour before so that people wont know to follow you. DO IT for the good of the game. and why not? youve beaten a 2 v1, what else is there to do?

and this is why we 2 v 1 HoD during the weekend and personally ill continue trying to do so during the week.

big picture, HoD HAS TO LOSE. the longer HoD goes on undefeated the more players give up, or worse, transfer to HoD. next cycle will be what, sbi vs jq vs hod and itll be their turn to try 2 v 1 HoD and if they fail…. prepare for a huge mass of people playing wvw to put a lot less energy into it.

defeatist attitudes are strong when your opponent is undefeated…. if HoD were to lose just 1 match itll result in months of strong play, people wont give up because they can always point to that one time they lost and use it as hope.

ET vs SBI vs JQ would be an awesome epic fight that we’ll never see.

to be fair HoD advantaged from another bug to start it off.

when the orb player is killed and someone else picks it up it seems to go off the map.

i’d like more client side options. also aion had the option to turn off player models but not player name tags. i’d do that in a heart beat if it means i always seem player name tags when in name tag range.
