Im trying to relearn the game after not playing for a long time. Is rifle in a good spot for engie in wvw? Everything i see makes it seem like the sky is falling and rifle sucks

yes, the rifle is in a good spot next to hammer. Pistols in other hand, barely see anyone play it.

-No changes, though the damage might need to be tweaked down a little.
-Let us get out of Forge mode with Weapon switch
-Make other weapons affected by Heat
-Cooling vent is weak, was expecting it to lower down heat

Did you found any use out of this trait ?

I fear it fall in the already crowded graveyard of useless engineers great master trait ? I don’t see any interest since we already have too many way to stack power and since it only buff sword which have really poor interrest for now ?

Maybe its real interrest is to concentrate every game design errors in the same stuffs, so for a change we don’t have any regrets and can forget it right now to play with the interresting stuffs only ?

yes.
longer photon forge time = more heat.
more heat= more heat lost
more heat lost = longer health regen (see heat therapy)

assuming that you don’t use photon forge carelessly and intentionally blow yourself up, it’s a death sentence when you overheat.

I was right about the fact that the traits don’t matter. It doesn’t matter what you pick for the Holosmith traits, it doesn’t affect the build no matter if it’s condi or power.

The skills matter way more than the traits when they should be relatively equal.

I dunno, Ceimash. Holosmith plays very differently depending on which grandmaster trait you take. I agree that there’s a lot of weak traits in the setup overall, and I’m sure numbers will be adjusted to make some of them more attractive, but you can’t seriously tell me that Photonic Blasting Module doesn’t change how you manage your heat; it totally encourages you to brute force the entire mechanic, intentionally overloading to deal massive damage around you.

I really encourage you to try Thermal Release Valve as well, as it actually addresses a longstanding issue with the condi engineer in that it was far too reliant on Blowtorch. With a few tweaks and some longer theorycrafting sessions, I genuinely think Holosmith will make condi engi a legitimate thing again—and not just a one-and-done Kinetic Battery burster with double Incendiary Ammo. Sword/pistol had some genuine strength behind it, and I didn’t even have to run the Flamethrower.

Heck, there is some real possibility that you could even run the rifle with the Carrion build, as High Caliber and Hematic Focus both have real synergy with the Holosmith. 20% crit chance isn’t great, but it’s more than enough to proc No Scope and maintain a great deal of Fury with the help of Hard Light Arena and Reactive Lenses. It’s a bit obtuse, but it does work, and it does help maintain Incendiary Powder procs with a baseline 0% crit build without the use of an Intelligence sigil.

As I said before, I have a lot of issues with the specialization, especially as it pertains to its real lack of WvW utility, but I think you’re being unfair here.

Photonic blasting module also lets you maintain your heat reserve, meaning that skills that benefit from heat, you can cook yourself up on photon forge mode then start bursting your skills with added heat benefits.

On the side note, Holosmith seems to have good sustain with Heat therapy where you’ll have to know when to use Forge mode and encouraging heat management.

Not sure if i can say that all of the traits doesn’t really synergize well with the core traits, but i can see some that does

for example: Adrenal Implant (Tools), Thermal Release Valve(Holo), and Minesweeper( Explosives) for DPS, dodge, and condi

Enhanced Storage Capacity (holo), Light Density Amplifier (holo), and Iron blooded (Alchemy) with hard light arena can make you a soak up damage.

Yes please! it’s a pain on having to press all the way to F5 just to get out of photon forge, especially when you’re used to kit swapping.

the queues here (GH+RoS+Vabbi) are getting ridiculous with numbers reaching up to 100 in EB and a 30 minute wait time in borderlands to get in. I call to remove the linking or at least unlink servers temporarily until the numbers stabilize.

the link system is meant to complement the small population of players in servers, not something to look forward to fixing the problems of the desert borderlands.

The issue with desert BL is the lack of player but if Anet had more players (map player limit increased) game will lag alot, the skills being spammed with just a blob aoeing walls and gates, we already have lag, if we had the right number of players fighthing in the dbl…. would be unplayable…

I would say also the issue that Anet has on WvW is the lack of depth and vision for the gamemode.
They cant even fix pvp and the removed stats….

what do you think is the cause of the lack of players at DBL aside from a low population server? ever tried borderlands yourself? face it, no one likes DBL even after the changes they made. the difference between DBL and alpines are a huge gap when it comes to gameplay. replacing a good functional toy and replacing it with a bandaged broken toy thinking people will like because “it’s different” is just plain daft, if you think just replacing and increasing the number of children playing the broken toy is going to help, well have i got news for you.

I have already stated my proposal for rifle changes here. The idea was to change the style of the weapon to a shot-gun style weapon, increase the base auto-attack’s performance, and allow the Engineer to more effectively modify it’s distance between the target (add short range Mobility).

In retrospect the Evade on Rifle #5 should not be applied as this skill works fine in it’s current configuration.

Another variation for my Blunderbuss changes are to simply allow reuse for 2 seconds if it hits a target.

woah there, might need to slow down since that one’s bloody overpowered, plus i’d rather not have evades on any of the skills.

As a GW lore buff, I could make a list of unfinished and abandoned story lines. However, I think I’ll hit the character limit. I think I’ll just make a short list of the most obvious ones.

- Eir took Magdaer from the catacombs of ascalon, then Eir dies, and nothing is done with Magdaer.

- In GW1 the Scepter of Orr was picked up by Livia, aaaaaaaannnnd nothing.

- The personal stories at the start of the game, the ones that are unique to each story line have loose endings, almost none of those have been explored; including but not limited to: The Sylvari from the Maguuma jungle, the feud between the human throne and the ministry, any of the asura inventions, the list goes on.

- Anything with the captains council the lion guard was surprisingly absent after they rebuilt lions arch during the mordremonth attack. I didn’t even see them, with their new ships, providing any relief. It’s as if the lionguard was totally forgotten.

- Orr being purified, it’s been a few years and there has been 0 progression on that front.

- pretty much ANY of the dungeon stories, story mode or explorable stories. Crucible of Eternity, Arah, Citadel of flame, ect.

- We still have no idea what Fractals of the Mist actually is or is about. We had one short story when the Thumanova Reactor was released then nothing.

- Anything about the human gods. Seriously we have no idea what happened after the exodus or why the hell they stopped talking to us.

I think I’ll cut it there. The list would go on for a while.

you forgot HoT story, rushed to hell, too many loose ends, rytlock is an example of chekov’s gun and malyck is missing and forgotten. and somehow they forgot about our role as commander of the pact during season 1, HoT was an exception and the last few episodes of season 2 but it was kitten terrible on how they handled it.

Regarding “Promised” Incentives. i just upgraded my account with HoT last week after a few months break, we were promised character slots and gems back then for old players before the free to play conversion hit,i didn’t get anything upon logging in. bug or just something just didn’t meant to happen for those who didn’t bought the expansion on launch?

Hey Mike O’Brien, you still got 70 employees working on the new expansion??? I thought you said that new expansion would never hinder the live game. Seems to me that you don’t have enough people on live because you got them on the new expac. Looks like the new expac is already having a negative impact on live.

And you have no idea who is on that 70 man team. Could all be preproduction. Concept artists, script writers, story-boarders, developing new masteries. People who could not contribute to a team already in production like LW likely is. The expansion may very well not be impacting live content. You can’t make that conclusion simply because “there’s a lot of people over there”.

Storyboarding could be done by a matter of 3-7 people, scriptwriter 3 at a maximum, concept artists 2 or 1. Hell the whole pre-production stage can be done by less 20 people or less, but 70 people? it either says they’re incompetent enough of being able to do a SINGLE TASK with few people or they’re rushing the expansion AGAIN and leaving the current one down the gutter.

i’m starting to believe that those involved with the legendaries are stuck with the kitten conceptualization but hey, who knows.

We have a team of six developers working on that, who could work on it for years to come.[..]
So, after shipping Chuka and Champawat, I’ve asked that we indefinitely suspend work on new legendary weapons. This team of developers will instead shift their efforts back to Living World style content, building new journeys and events for everyone to participate in.

Personally, I think that’s a great decision and I fully support it. I am sure it was a really hard decision due to its controversy, kudos for that.

Just out of curiosity, what is the work intense part on the legendaries? The art design, the journey itself, the economic impact of the individual crafting components?

i’d like to remind you that there are 120 people working on the game, 70 of them are wasted on the expansion and 30 people on both core and the expac. if you don’t see what’s wrong with wasting that much manpower in content that they would release 3 years later then i have bad news for you.

so to summarize, old players before game going Free to play don’t get bonuses for upgrading to Heart of thorns, maps are broken, story is still horrendous despite given effort, maps and events are a bit bugged now, raid wings aren’t complete on release,dungeons hit the final nail on the coffin, WvW is still dead, fractal leaderboards doesn’t exist and probably never happen and now the promised full set of legendaries will remain incomplete. did i missed anything from their broken promises?

now questions to answer, what’s the rate of paid players leaving the game as we speak, and is this the part where i regret buying the expansion?

and for pete’s sake can anet just be more transparent on their development instead of keeping people in the kitten dark, it’s making me think that they’re getting rid of old players so they could just incentivize on the new casual F2P players

I think they may have taken it out partly due to PvP, because it lets you throw them to areas that is either difficult or impossible for players to actually get to, while it can still attack people.

No, after playing PvP with the trait on, it’s impossible to pull that one off since it’ll be impossible to land the turrets there too.

it’s most likely in order to make room for the new traits that everyone else is asking for or just not everyone’s using it. it’s a fun trait to use, for a turret engie since it lets you place the turrets in far places other than suddenly put it under you. anyway, if they remove it, so be it.

Title explanatory. i just noticed that the deployable turret trait is gone on the upcoming june 23 feature pack, i EVERY engie here uses kit and some turret builds doesn’t even bother using that trait or know it, so in short: it lets you throw your turrets instead of just placing them where you are, it was a fun trait to play with especially at PvE and most of the time at PvP . i do hope for it to get reworked for a bit and return in the later specializations.

examples
Bifrost (elementalist)
- Water attunement, Freezes 3-4 enemies at a target area instantly
-fire attunement, Summon a meteor to strike the target area
-Earth attunement, Shake the ground of your sorrounding knocking down any enemies

Twilight
warr-Spin the sword slashing any enemies at sorrounding you at 300 range
-channel the sword’s energies and open a space rift sucking any enemies near

The predator
warriors
-Fires a high energy shot doing critical damage and burns your foes
