Hi, I’m looking for an active guild that participates mostly in PvP events, whether it be sPvP, tPvP, or WvW. I’ve been doing a lot of sPvP with my Engineer and would like to get onto a team that is dedicated to perfecting their PvP abilities. I’m not well versed in WvW yet, so I may need some help learning strats and minor things, but that shouldn’t be a problem since I’m a quick learner =)
Overall, I’ m enthusiastic about pvping and I’m always trying to better myself, so naturally I think the next step in becoming better is to play with a group of pvp enthusiasts like myself.
I also like to do dungeon runs and PvE in general, and so I like to strike a balance between both worlds.
Thanks in advance =)
If I’m not mistaken Elixir gun #5 removes 1 condition in its blast radius.

I disagree that winning is the only thing that matters. Having fun is.
So say that you could win more pvp matches by just sitting on a point, seeing very few fights, and “taking one for the team”.Sure sometimes you would do that, but that is why I see a lot of folks gather in the middle of a pvp battlefield and just go for slaughter v objectives. Sure it irritates some players, but there is a sense to it too. It just is more fun getting into fights!
Well Perplexity is PvE/WvW only so no point camping, but to address your comment. If its your job to sit on that point you kitten well better! tPvP is a TEAM “sport” and ill argue that it is more “fun” when played properly. Another football analogy (I watched the games last night) Sometimes a quarterback may want to run the ball in for a touchdown, because its more fun/glorious but they would never do it unless it was the best possible choice for… you guessed it winning.
PvP is based around competitive play and in a competition the “fun” comes from playing together… and winning.
Loving the football analogies.
But let’s say that we’re playing HS football and we’re both captains. You choose the team that has the highest chance of winning, including the freshmen that’s 6’4, 200 lbs and could be mistaken for a 32 year old man. On the other hand, I choose my friends, a foreign exchange student that’s absolutely hilarious, and the class clown.
Obviously your team demolishes us, and you guys walk away happy and a bit smug. We sit defeated and in a puddle of the foreign exchange student’s poop, having lost control of his bowels after he was dealt an epic clothesline by that beast freshmen. My friends are cursing and a bit bitter, the class clown has lost his sense of humor and now is pursuing a law degree, and I’m thinking “Anet why must I run perplexity to match up against this freshmen, who I’m certain is being fed testosterone in his breakfast cereal?”
TL;DR
Winning is fun/nice, but sometimes the way you win matters.
Antitoxin obviously.
Not a bad choice for WvW. Helps to make up for some of the lack of cond removal that most builds have as well as adding condition damage and might vs condition classes.
Even he thinks perplexity runes are extremely over powered in a one on one battle, and are more acceptable in a 2 or 3 on 1 battle.
Pre-nerf. Now has an ICD. It’s still a very strong rune though for sure.
Ah okay, thanks for clearly that up.
to OP: Currently I’m using superior runes of scavenging, which are pretty good as well, and undead runes in Spvp. Undead runes are amazing in spvp you should definitely give it a shot. =D
I love the “Perplex is NOOB” posts people think its cheap… let me ask you something, What reason could you have for not being as absolutely strong as you can be in PvP. Gimmicky or not Perplexity is badkitten.
As an engineer that doesn’t use perplexity runes, if I see another engineer kill me in a 1 on 1 battle with those runes, I discredit them entirely. I’m not mad, I just shrug it off and I continue on, because I know without those runes the outcome may have been different. Having 12 stacks of confusion on me through out the fight is a huge disadvantage.
That being said, in my opinion perplexity runes are probably the best runes you could have on your Engineer.
You may have already seen this video, but this should show you how amazing perplexity runes can be.

This is my build
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIqqb3zSiF1LJyoCdGoC5lIF5nl95hcxWQIA-TkAAzENpay1kpJZT2mGBM9A
It’s the usual condition build, but compared to a necro you have all these amazing utilities as well as superb condition damage. I’ve played a ton of games with this build and it feels great.
Utilities
1. Shield – #4 magnetic shield (knock back/blast finisher for extra healing), #5 static shield (daze/stun)
2. Elixir Gun – #4 Acid bomb (blast finisher for extra healing/escape mechanism/damage can’t be blocked), # 5 super elixir (heal) and tool kit skill healing mist (heal/stun breaker)
3. Bomb Kit – #4 Smoke bomb(blind), #5 Glue bomb(immobilize)
4. Supply crate (an amazing skill that’s a blast finisher and gives you health pack
Now, used correctly these skills will render thieves useless. Seriously, thieves are afraid of contesting a point with me, actually any thief should be afraid of a bomb kit wielding engineer. With this build, all your explosions will cause vulnerability, all critical hits WILL cause burning, and have a 33% chance to cause bleeding.
I admit, I’m spamming a lot of my abilities, but knowing when to time a perfect static shield to stun followed up with a big ol’ bomb and a glue bomb is quite satisfying.
The only problem I have with this build is that I cannot over come being immobilized. The stun breaker doesn’t work when you’re immobilized, but that’s only when there’s more than 1 enemy chain immobilizing.

First point, how would you propose we get rid of stealth and stability stomping? We obviously can’t get rid of stealth or stability as they are a very important part of the game.
Maybe if we nerf those buffs that they can’t be used against a downed player? But that would always ensuring that the downed player would get an interrupt off. That’s not going to be fun for anyone. Using the skills your class has to take down an opponent downed or not is their right (thief).
Your second point will also make downed state incredibly overwhelming. Say 3 people are downed at a point, they all chain AoE blast their foes for their teammates to come rescue them? That’d be unfair and lacks skill diversity imo.
I think out of all the issues that this game has, the down state is not the highest priority. Everyone knows each classes downed states abilities, if you’re aware you should be able to predict what your downed foe is going to do.
On the other hand, I agree that thieves, mesmers, and elementalists have some boss downed state abilities, while engineers, necros, and warriors don’t have much. Hopefully they’ll find a good way to balance them.
I play an Engineer.
I’m currently using a Bomb/Grenade/EG set up for PVE and dungeons, but what do you guys think about this?

The tool belt skill for elixir R could be useful and I feel like elixir U, when used correctly, could also be very effective.
I like to just chill in DS and smoke a cig, saves my lungs.
I for one was quite excited about the patch notes, a lot of awesome changes IMO. I don’t know why you guys are so bummed out, it’s not like it’ll take 1 patch to fix all the numerous problems we have. Besides we are not a bad class to play, in terms of beating other classes, and dungeons.
Sorry if you feel like your “done”, there’s the door, no one’s stopping you. This is an MMO and we have updates every week or so, the fact that some select players get pissed because their specific bug, or skill wasn’t fixed is childish. It’s a big game, with a lot of content, no korean F2P is as detailed and complex as this. my opinion of course =)
Devs actually helped eles out a bit with the down state, it’s not much but man its good to know the devs are on our side =] I made this post to thank devs for their hard work THANK YOU
So, which is the better heal, the turret or the backpack? In terms of potential i think the backpack might have more, but all this talk about combo fields for the turret, now leads me to believe it’s the better heal.
“statistically speaking this is rather rare” couldn’t have said it better myself
@Zunhar
Wait what? There is a bug/glitch for the stealth feature that doesn’t let us see thieves for another 2-3 seconds after they pop out of stealth? Your joking right? This can’t be right lol I mean I do realize thieves are extremely hard to catch (at least the good ones), but I think you better check your info again.
Are you talking in terms of PvP or PvE? I’ll assume PvE, because in PvP necromancers are quite strong. I haven’t leveled my Necromancer to 80 yet, but it’s not like I’m noticing a lot of the negatives. There are bugs, but I’m sure that it doesn’t affect your in-game play so much that you’d want to quite your favorite profession. I say stick with it, and get good with your profession and when the fixes do come out, and they will, you’ll be all the happier.
“My question is, why don’t you have your enemy targeted in the first place? Also, if you find this difficult to manage, just enter DS…”
That question is irrelevant. It doesn’t matter why I don’t have an enemy targeted, because it could be for multiple reasons, but lets just say, I’m running away, and get stunned by a stealthed thief. It would be really nice if my stun-breaker worked as intended, and broke the dam stun without me having to put in so much effort to target the enemy, when other classes can do exactly that.
So you suggest I pop DS? Wasting DS for this purpose would be my last option. I just want PS to be a stun separately from it giving your condition to enemies when activated. It makes sense giving conditions to enemies requires you to target them, but a stun breaker that requires a target, limits the utility. This is all in terms of PvP and WvW. Sorry I didn’t mention earlier.
I understand that the condition removal part of the skill now follows all the mechanics of the game, but why does the stun break have to have someone targeted for it to work? The skill is able to transfer conditions to other enemies (with LoS and targeting of player), remove conditions from allies, and break stuns. Why do I have to be targeting someone to break out of a stun? Or is a stun considered a condition you are sending off to an enemy, if so, I don’t see enemies getting stunned or immobilized.
I’m contemplating on changing this out for another utility, any suggestions?.Stealthed thieves, stunning you and hitting you with heavy backstabs, with a stun breaker where you have to target and face the target, is a hard feat to accomplish. This is a bug Anet fixed which is good, but they made significantly harder for necros atm. Hope to see the full fix to this potentially very powerful, but very broken skill.
So you will be running dungeons with all necros? and Tpvping with all necros?
I want to smash my kittttennnn face into this big stupid KITTEN keyboard…
Hey, no problem and thanks! you too.
Henge of Denravi
The name is based off of the Greek mythology about the wind gods, whom control the directional winds. Boreas, Zephyrus, Notus, and Eurus.
Boreas is the violent North wind, when Athens was being threatened by Xerxes and his army, they prayed to Boreas and he whipped Xerxes butt with some heavy hitting winds, destroying about 400 ships. Whatakitten.
Zephyrus, is the gentle West wind and is considered to be Spring, except he kidnapped a lot of his sisters and mated with them. Not so gentle eh.
Notus, was the hot South winds, basically if you didn’t please him he would destroy all of your crops and you’d go hungry and die. poop.
AND FINALLY Eurus. He is considered the.. I’m not sure. He’s just warm air…luke warm.
So me and my buddies wanted to make a Guild and we liked this idea of the Winds. We are chill guys, who are looking to have fun and experience this amazing game. I for one love Pvping, so if your into that I’ll be into you.
My friend loves to Pve, so if you want to run a dungeon or explore, he’ll help you out and so will I, of course.
We are looking for anyone who is willing to be active, and mostly new people to Guild wars. I admit, we aren’t pros, but we do have MMO backgrounds, so we’re quick learners. So, let’s explore, have fun, run dungeons, tpvp/spvp, and do a multitude of different things that this astounding game has to offer. Thanks.
How big is your guild atm
Surprisingly, I only got it once while playing yesterday. But seriously guys, I dont think it gives the devs any motivation when you tell them they should be caged or “FIX IT NOW”. I raged quite a bit when this happened too and came to the fourms to inform the community, but it looks like the only reason the devs dont lock this up is so that people can vent their frustration and anger somewhere.
Now that being said, FIX IT NOAW!! Thanks in advance.
Psh F that I’ll take my chances.
Do you remember in wow when Rogues use to be OP in the beginning. What happened towards the end? Yep eventually it will happen, the question is when.
When I first started doing Spvp, I ran a necro and was like “oh, oh, lich form sooo coool, plague form sooo cool. These are awesome elites” and i get hit by a kitten bird transformation elite? that negates my elite? So you’ve created an elite skill that totally negates mine. A mesmer can wait all day in a 1v1 until i pop my plague or lich form and moa me and laugh in my stupid ugly moa face.
Of course it’s not about 1v1 in this game, but I’m still bitter.
Thanks. Why are they allowed to stealth stomp and necros aren’t allowed to use death shroud to revive or down players, that just seems unfair. Especially, bc we don’t have any stability except that one trait that give it to us in DS.
What’s he doing?
I’m in the same boat as you guys. I don’t know why, maybe it’s because I’m too use to vertical scaling games like WoW, where cool/better gear and weapons are the motivation. It just doesn’t feel right at the moment, I GET BORED TOO QUICKLY. This, obviously is not the case for a lot of people, but there are definitely a number of us out there, that feel…weird.
I’m kind of regretting my purchase atm. =[
What’s the rule for stealth in this kitten game, can thieves not get knocked out of it by taking damage?
yeah its happening on one particular map for me, Battle of Kyolo.
Whenever I die and try to respawn, it won’t let me load back into the game. It keeps me at the loading screen for a while, until I exit the game. Anyone else having this problem?
Hey guys and you wonderful devs that made this game possible. I’ve been playing GW2 for about 2 weeks now, after contemplating whether or not it would be worth it, and I have to say it is definitely worth the buy. The combat system is a lot of fun, the weapon ideas that are implemented are quite interesting, and the world is breath taking. I really love spvp and haven’t tried WvW yet, but I have no doubt that it will blow my friggin mind.
I’m only a level 16 Necromancer, so I don’t have a complete understanding of the PVE world yet, but a friend of mine are playing together and some what of an issue came up in my mind. This game(PVE), with all of it’s complexity, beauty, creative story plots, and loads of other things, is not that addictive. Some people have already mentioned that something was missing, and I too agree. So since it lacks that addictive “something” I’m losing motivation to level and continue on with my PVE character.
Here’s what I’m thinking, I’ve played a couple of MMO RPG’s in my time the last one being DCUO, if you’ve ever heard of it, is a vertical scaling game (gear tiers, grinding, etc.) Yet, still I played that game non-stop, and could not put it down, and I really think it’s due to this idea of easily obtained quests and party function. Now, I know everyone has different tastes and all, but when I’m doing the same Heart Quests with my buddy, who I’m partied with, and we aren’t doing it together it makes it very difficult to have a good time. Killing, gathering, or whatever the quest requires of us should let us complete it together, not at different times. This wastes time, and eventually we get separated since we are tired of waiting, or we go do different things while we wait.
Me: So are you done with your quest yet?
Friend: No
Me: okay. (starts killing random stuff in the same area, which doesn’t contribute anything to my party member who hasn’t finished the quest yet)
I’m sorry if that was a terrible example, but that is what usually happens. So, I want to feel this cohesion between me and my party members, instead of this solo feel I’m getting from doing these heart quests.
Like I said earlier the story is interesting, I’m not a fan of the cut scenes so I usually skip them, but the inability to do these personal stories with friends that are not the same race or story baffles me. I know it’s suppose to be a “personal story” but it’s no fun to run through the personal story and find that, at the end, I get zilch for helping my buddy out, or vice versa. Where’s the reward for helping in personal stories? I know this is A LOT (not being sarcastic) to ask for since the game is designed to be like this, but it just hurts to know that I won’t gain any exp for questing with my buddy.
Okay, here it is, my comparison to WoW. I grinded to 1-85 in cataclysm and it was kitten hard, but you know what? The quests were straight forward, I had motivation to keep trucking through and me and my friends had a great time doing the quests together. I know for a fact that GW2 can surprass WoW maybe not in all aspects, but in the important ones. So if it is at all possible please make leveling/questing/personal stories with friends and party members more of a collaborative effort with rewards to all those that are involved (not talking about DE).
Dynamic events are a great part of the game, it is random and exciting and I wish no change upon that. On the other hand, DE does not give me a structured way of getting exp when I want it, like heart quests do, which is more like conventional questing.
I’ve played GW1, when Mesmer’s use to be the interrupt class and when we could dual spec (warrior/necro is an amazing combo haha) and I have nothing, but love for this game. In GW1 questing was the same way as in other MMO’s and it pulled me in right away. I’m not asking you guys to get rid of DE, heart quests, or anything really. This is a game of choices and options, I’m just asking that you guys add some more choices, like structured questing, and party cohesion. I’ve been a fan of this game from the get go, devs are doing a great job and a ton of players are happy about this game. Keep up the good work.
