She’s a mesmer. Maybe the kid was a phantasm.
Do it quick. I had buyer’s remorse on a piece and I waited a couple of weeks to ask for a do over. They denied it because it had been too long.
It’s a cynical currency sink, IMO.
Overall, I don’t think the mastery point is that bad. Once I memorized his movement pattern it was much easier to get the food to the right place each time. The latency making aiming difficult and the Chef’s frequent movement does get frustrating, but I like the tight time limit — makes it a bit of a challenge.
That said, there are a couple QoL improvements I would like to see with that mastery point, especially since most people will have to make several (or many) attempts at it:
1. Shorten the pre-minigame dialogue for attempts past the first. Maybe add in another dialogue option to the pot for subsequent attempts that lets you go right to the minigame without the same explanation every time. The repetitive instructions at the start of each attempt were my least favorite thing about it.
2. Spread out some of the food items. This is mainly directed at the “clusters” of food items near the ovens where it’s possible to be within interaction range of two or three at the same time. I had a few attempts where I felt like I was standing right in front of the item I needed, grabbed the wrong one, and didn’t realize it until I threw it and the chef told me I was an idiot (or something along those lines). With the tight time limit, that’s almost enough to guarantee a failed attempt. Alternatively…
3. Make it clearer which food item we’re holding. If there was some way to identify the item we’re holding, we could see when we grab the wrong one and correct it more quickly than running and throwing the wrong item, and then having to run back.
I feel like with these minor improvements, a lot of the frustration could be reduced with the minigame while preserving the challenge.
I really dislike the minigames but these are good suggestions if we have to live with this. At least you only have to do it once since it’s an MP.
I gave it a few shots then stopped. I’ll save up my frustrating experience for when it’s permanent.
If you have not played through LWS3 how can you be critical of it?
Which now begs the question, if we always understood that “casual” was a mindset when talking about any other activity, why do we suddenly get so confused when it gets applied to games?
That’s easy to answer: hardcores didn’t like being grossly outnumbered on the forums and even more-so in-game. So, they artificially broke up the definition of casual so they could argue against specific subsets of casual play. Thus, they “won” the arguments more.
Unfortunately, ANet believed them, and almost destroyed the game trying to cater to them.
But, being crushed in the marketplace caused ANet to reconsider, and they’ve moved back much closer to where they were in the beginning. Except for mapping, and for failing to nerf HoT mobs a little bit more, I think they’ve done well. They can’t go too far in the casual direction, because the game does have many hardcore players. They don’t want to alienate them any more than they did casual players with HoT.
Me so gullible, conspire you long time.
My theme song for exploring into Elona -
Actually all of the LW3 content is soloable. And, it’s the most recent content before the expansion.
If you don’t like the game, don’t play it. Simple. I’m sure the company has done its research and knows its customer base. After all, they’re in it to make money and satisfying the most players is the way they’ll do that. If their decisions do not fit your playing style, you’re either going to have to find something else to do or be miserable.
That’s exactly why I stopped playing for a year, I enjoyed and am currently enjoying other games, I came back to test the waters of the Expansions, as.. well you know.. maybe Anet is not All-knowing and realized they made a mistake with HoT, believe this or not, game companies do make mistakes and don’t know their player base as well as some people might think. But they are in the business to make money, and I am simply seeing if my demographic is profitable to them.. if not.. oh well. no Loss on my part.
Eh, sounds like you have a grip on it and a plan. My only disagreement is with Anet making a mistake with HOT.
I’m no fanboi, but it doesn’t look like the company’s bottom line has suffered because of HOT. If it had, I don’t think we’d have a POF.
But again, to each their own, and thankfully, there are many titles out there to serve us all.
Cheers.
…
I want a crab mount so I can strafe!
Hehe
Raptors so far animate, move and feel EXCELLENT. They actually feel like you’re riding a big mount and even feel realistic. If you don’t like the feel because you only care about a mediocre speed boost that feels, moves and animates like horse doodoo, then go play WoW or some other game.
Oh, I agree. I’m liking the raptor a lot, especially the way it skids to a stop. You do have to anticipate that so you don’t go over a cliff or something, but it’s a good feature.
My only faulting with them so far is the lack of strafe and the 180 turnaround. Folks have countered about their weight and size not letting those movements be realistic, but there’s no reason the strafe and turnaround could not be done in a way that would be consistent with it being a large animal.
But even then, this is a small point for me and just a preference. I’ll sure I’ll be fine with no changes and will get used to it pretty quickly I imagine.
This is definitely a “tastes great-less filling” topic.
Open the map and mouse over the heart icon in the legend. Only the ones you’ve yet to do should glow for a moment, iirc.
After all this time, that’s something I have only recently learned of. Thanks for putting it out there again.
You mean, realism like a large, horse-sized creature being able to jump 50 meters or more with a rider?
My auto-run worked fine.
WTB straffing raptor video. I’ve never seen a chicken or raptor walk side ways, only forwars/backwards/
Check out birds on telephone wires or a canary on a perch bar in its cage.
Oh, my autorun works, too.
OP, while you may self-identify as casual, there is little agreement among all who so identify. Some think of the word as meaning preference for easy content; others for limited time spent playing; still others for solo-only play. There may be as many understandings of what “casual” means as there are people using the term.
“Casual” is a mindset, or more aptly put, an approach on how someone plays the game. In simple terms, “casual” defines their motive and drive, as opposed to being serious about the game, or hardcore. Truth is, being “Casual” is irrespective of skill or time played. As how many hours someone invests into a game or how skilled they are at playing a game, have no bearing the mindset they have or how they approach the game.
In short, a “Casual” is not looking for a something serious that they have to work at or treat like a job, they are looking to escape into a fantasy world as someone might take a casual stroll in the woods to escape the daily grind of life.
OK, so that is your definition. That’s fine, as long as you realize that not everyone is using the word that way. Frankly, the unhelpful comments you complain about are the result of your using the word casual rather than describing your preferred play-style.
Hopefully, the other comments that you snipped from my post were helpful.
Actually, I fit the definition of casual being a mindset pretty well.
I do not raid, I am not interested in slogging it out to craft legendaries, I don’t need every achievement in the book, I don’t drive myself crazy trying to do jumping puzzles just for an MP. I do what I want, when I want and the way I want.
And, I still enjoy the game. So, I guess you could say that Anet has not forgotten this particular casual.

As noted in another thread, raptors strafing would not break realism. Birds can move sideways so why do we conclude that their ancestors could not? I’m for the 180 turnaround working, too.
But if it stays the same, I’ll get used to it I’m sure. Not a huge thing.
My big problem with mounts is that they cannot straffe! It is really bad thing for movement…
It’s realistic as it is. No strafing please.
Disagree. There’s no RP reason a raptor could not strafe. Their real life descendants, birds, can move sideways. Why would we conclude that a dinosaur could not?
Several times I had my screen go black for a second or two and then come right back up with no other negative effect. I don’t recall where exactly, but I’m pretty sure it was not in just one location.
That made me really LOL
Known Issues:
- Attempting to borrow a raptor while using the Fire Extinguisher bundle skill may cause the raptor to despawn before the player is recognized as riding a mount.
- Some crafting recipes are replaced with temporary, nonfunctional items at this time.
- Some crafting materials may not have all of their details visible at this time.
- The Lily of the Elon Pass cannot be used in the demo. This will be functional after the expansion officially launches.
That was fully expected.
this is not about testing either, it’s about advertisement and sell more copies..otherwise you would be able to test all the ontent not just the first map, but they have they own testers for that.
There’s one test their testers have not been able to perform. A stress test. That’s what this is, as well as an advertisement.
Next weekend is the PvP and WvW stress test.
Yep.
Thanks for the heads up.
So, this is the same issue we’ve had for a long time with the repeatable hearts, eh?
Thanks for the info.
Do we know what time today the beta access starts? I’ve looked for it and not found. Is there a regular time these things begin?
My situation is pretty similar to Rasimir’s and I have to agree with him/her completely.
I consider myself casual and found DM one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I’ve had in a long time.
Maybe it’s the definition of “casual” that’s the problem here.
Getting up to the waterfall torqued me quite a bit at first but then I realized I just had to glide around the area where the updrafts that get you there form until they showed up. It sometimes takes a couple of minutes depending on the RNG timing.
I never have the artifact on me for this because, well, I don’t find it necessary or useful.
I’ve seen the Siren Training area and choir referred to in a couple of threads now. Where is that?
south from the waipoint there is a mastery trainer NPC, once you learn Sirens of Orr mastery he offers you teleportation to the area where you can “learn” how to actually use the thing
Ah, thank you.
Yep. I’m seeing it, too.
I agree OP that the skins look much worse than even very cheap in game items/armors. However I purchased the package for the other benefits, I saw enough value without the skins so not really too disappointed.
I wouldn’t expect they would generate too many sales if they were selling those skins as stand alone items in the gem store.
That’s what I was going to say.

Wait till you meet a magma elemental …
Ha ha! Indeed.
After buying HOT in January I got my gems almost immediately. It’s been a couple of days now since buying POF and no gems yet. I’m sure volume has a lot to do with the time it takes.
Aha! So, it’s basically just getting up to the MP ledge. Got it. Thanks.
JT, I had forgotten you could use it on an existing 80 character. And, Electro, I just saw that now, too.
Thanks for the helpful info.
As of now, after buying HOT a while ago, and now POF, I have two level 80 boosts that I have no interest in (so far).
I do not yet have a toon in every profession and so want to use my shared slot from the POF purchase to level something new. I ignored the boost from HOT and leveled a new toon with the additional slot, so I still have that sitting there. I plan on doing the same now.
Is there any good way to get rid of the boosts? Should I just create a character, boost it, then delete it to free up the shared inventory slot?
Some sort of trade-in value for the boosts would be nice for those of use who do not want to use them.
I could read every single opinion in here and why those maps should or shouldn’t be locked behind story step, but still it wouldn’t change my mind. doing story once is fun, second is reminding, third is boring and if you want to do it for every single of your 12 toons, then it is the most annoying thing ever. Why should I have to buy a porting item to send rest of my toons to that map!
Indeed.
I remain bamboozled on how to get to the undead spider in SL.
Can someone give me a hint or direct me to a guide?
Thanks.
I have no problem with the requirement to start the story for access to a new LW map. I just wish that after I’ve done the story and opened the zone on one character it would be open for my others. But that’s what the portal scroll’s for, along with it being a currency sink. I get it.
I saw that but it didn’t address the double posts. I guess it’s part and parcel.
I’ve had an inadvertent double post and have seen several others tonight.
Is there something going on with the website causing this?
From the shrine, you can glide to the heart with minimal damage or come up the tunnel from the east, avoiding the mobs there so getting to it should not be an issue.
I go into combat every now and then while talking to the vendor, but I kind of like that it’s an especially dangerous area. Seems very Balthazar-like.

Thanks. That’s kind of what I suspected but wanted to hear from some folk who’ve actually used it. I’m not Mastery Point rich and want to make sure I put them where I’ll get the most benefit. I appreciate the info.
Anyone who’s got this mastery have an opinion on whether it’s worth it or not?
I would love to witness a conversation between Kerida and Canach. It would be pithy, fast-paced and amusing at the least.
I haven’t been on top of the LW episodes releases until now. What time of day do they release it?
Game of Thorns?
