Well, that’s true. I did always think that flamethrower wielding cat people who can shoot bullets out of their belt buckle were too realistic for this game.

It’s not often a post makes me literally LOL, but that did it.

Thanks for the chuckle.

Did GW2 lose its identity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sarpan.9074

I’m a new player, don’t have an 80 yet. Reading the forums and reddit it seems HoT is ‘L2P or GTFO’.

Still enjoying the core game, but not looking forward to HoT.

Don’t worry about HOT. I’m a very casual player who I just got HOT a few weeks ago. Yeah, those maps are more challenging but far from impossible. I enjoy the complexity and multi-layer nature of them. But they can sometimes be work and frustrating. All the more fun to succeed.

I know there’s a lot of cool high end stuff I’ll never see but that’s fine. I’m also never doing the grind to craft legendaries; that’s just not my thing. Not raiding either. Still, there’s plenty for me to do and I’m enjoying it so far even though I’ll never have the shiniest of the shinies.

I’m another WoW raider refugee and I sort of get the OP’s point. My draw to GW2 was the ability to play casually, by myself when I wanted to, with others when the opportunity arose and I felt like it. I still think this game has something for everyone.

And, as an added bonus, for the most part this community is one of the most helpful and civil I know of in any game and that means a lot to me. Sure, there are jerks here and there—that happens when you deal with humans—but from my experience, they are few and far between.

I’m a soloist. I enjoy GW2 due to it’s PvE lack of required teaming on 95% of it’s content, it’s PvE design philosophy that you should never be afraid to see or help another player, and it’s flash mob world events.

Has GW2 “changed”. Yes because a 4+ year old game has to, it’s not majority populated by new players with first time lower level characters anymore. It’s full of grizzled vets looking for something interesting to do. GW2 has always been a game where you set your own end goals, that hasn’t changed. It’s just some of those things require a bit more of an effort than before.

+ to all your post, these bits especially.

I’ve been seeing the guy on all my toons before I had entered BF or related zones, in fact, I’m pretty sure before I bought HOT a few weeks back. So, his appearance likely has nothing to do with where you’ve been or what you’ve done before that. Also, I have not done the Ley Line Anomaly event, but I see him anyway.

Mastery points in Season 2?

in Living World

Posted by: Sarpan.9074

Sarpan.9074

One thing to bear in mind. LS2 achievements cannot be completed on any chars first run through on each episode. A char needs to complete an episode (or poss just the relevant instance i forget) for that char to be able to qualify to attempt achievements next time.

Its annoying, but they never updated ls2 to account for this sadly

That seems odd. Have they said why they did it that way? Are there any other places in the game where that’s the case?

Sarpan.9074

I’m just about to start Season 2 on one of my toons and while looking over the Episode 1 description in the hero panel noticed that Mastery Points are included as rewards.

I thought Masteries were introduced with HOT, which came out after Season 2.

Did they add them to the reward later, after HOT came out or am I getting this wrong?

I wasn’t active when either came out so missed the timeline.

Aha! Thank you so much. That clears it up for me. And there’s a wiki page on infusing the back item so I don’t have to bug you about that.

I’m getting the thing.

Edit: My little education here led me to look more into Ascended gear and I ended up spending some of the hundreds of laurels I’ve collected over the years on rings and an amulet. Shiny! Woo hoo! I am probably confusing terms here.

The Elegant back pieces have an infusion slot which I can fill with an infusion I can buy from a laurel merchant. This is what I was referring to as “infusion.” I could very well be wrong about that.

Are you saying that I can’t use one of those infusions with an Ascended back piece? Is there a different process for “infusing” an Ascended piece?

What is it that can not now be done to the WM Scroll because of the bug?

OK, some questions about this item.

It’ll be my first Ascended piece so I want to be sure about what I’m getting into before spending the resources.

I assume you select the stats the same way as with all other items in the game, right?

Also, is the infusion process for Ascended items the same as with Elegant crafting back pieces?

Is it worth getting the WM Scroll before the infusion issue is solved? Because of my play choices, my only source of infusions is the laurel vendor, so +4 of a stat does not seem to be that much to grouse over anyway, and the dramatic increase in other stats over the crafted piece seems worth it.

Just wanted to see if there’s anything I’m missing.

The screaming corn in LA

in Living World

Posted by: Sarpan.9074

Sarpan.9074

If the corn is making zombies/ghosts/???creatures, can we call these creatures The Children of the Corn?

OMG, jokes are getting better and better. (LOL)

By the way, it is one particular corn stalk area (certains stalks) that you need to cross in order to trigger the Mordremoth-esque growl/scream (the sound varies):

That pic is a good guide, but the area where the sound happens is much wider.

If you go to that spot, you’ll see that the rock outcrop actually makes kind of an arrow pointing toward LA. It’s in that area where the sound happens.

I’ve never heard a “scream.” Most times it’s more like some kind of threatening moan, and I’m really not happy about it, especially with the reports of UFOs over Lake Doric and LA.

Confessor's End Camera Fix

Sarpan.9074

That may be why I didn’t have the problems so many have reported. I’ve reduced my collision the most I could ever since they first gave us the option. This video announcing the changes was one of the most exciting GW2 vids I ever saw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nB5o88FGpE

It really does make a difference. Those with problems seeing the fight in Confessor’s End, this could be your fix! Just be warned that some parts of the game will put your camera on the other side of walls or trees or ceilings at times. Imo a small price to pay to get rid of the nauseating yo-yo effect.

Of course, you can set it like this just for the fight and then put it back as you like it for normal play.

Crafting Discovery Characterbound?

I think they left discovery recipes character-bound as learning them is the main way to skill up in the craft. Take that away by having them unlock per account and you’re left with the very inefficient crafting things you already know for minuscule xp.

You said exactly what I was thinking. Makes perfect sense.

Q: Lake Doric Cave behind Melandrus's Refug

Sarpan.9074

I’ve done this a couple of times. When she spawns, I just run and light the torches at the base of the trees in order. You don’t have to stay close to her at all. In fact, I get to the gate and sit waiting for the few minutes she takes to stroll along. If the torches are lit, she’ll make it. Take time before the event to find all of the torches so you’re not searching when she gets there or she’ll poof. Wait until she spawns though before lighting any because they do go out.

I wonder whether this hasn’t changed? I did it within the last two days, and was the (solo) guy with the torch. I mostly stayed maybe a body-length or two in front of her, spamming attack with it and clicking on every tree I could find as I went along, desperately looking for something to light. It’s possible that I was both plain lucky and downright unobservant, but I never saw graphics of anything I could light, nor noticed anything that I lit by accident. And I certainly didn’t notice the torch graphics from that Youtube video (although I was probably looking ahead pretty much all of the time, not backwards). The gate still opened, though.

I’m going to guess you just got lucky. Congratulations!

It’s worth knowing that this recently changed, and prior to that recipes were character-bound even from sheets.

…Consumable recipe sheets you learn will unlock for all current and future characters on your account. Recipe sheets that are available for multiple crafting diciplines (such as: armorsmith, tailor, and leatherworker) will unlock for all of those disciplines.

I learned this the hard way when I started a second tailor and bought an inscription without noticing the character already knew it, but found out when I double-clicked on it. After a little looking at all my crafters I realized this was the case and luckily, it wasn’t too expensive a lesson with the low-level inscription, which had no use except to destroy.

A couple of basic questions -

I’m a little confused about the relationship of Legendary to Ascended items. Which comes first, or is that not really a valid question? I see they both have +5% over Exotic items. Is the only difference that Ascended can have its stats changed? Is there an order or progression from one to the other?

I am new to Ascended items and I’m considering buying the White Mantle Scroll once it’s debugged. What is required to initially set its attributes? Is it the same as is described in the wiki (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_equipment) for changing attributes?

Thanks.

I guess it’s not a huge thing to go back and do them, but a clear list or other indication of which is done would be helpful.

I only got HoT in November 2016. The way it worked out, when Chapter 3 released, I still hadn’t even completed Auric Basin on the HoT storyline, let alone Bloodstone Fen or Ember Bay.

I logged into Lake Doric out of order because I wanted to try being a part of the big party, if you know what I mean. I figured it would be nice to try the map when there were tons of players actually there, since the achievements seem to be harder when less people are on the map.

That’s why I arrived at Lake Doric without some needed skills.

This is pretty much my story, only I just got HOT about a month ago. This was also my first boss fight in GW2. Nice place to start, eh?

I’m grateful to the community for info on this fight, especially the utility of Counter Magic, which I did go and get. I haven’t done the fight again yet, but think I can finish it this time. Also taking a repair canister with me as well.

Switching active episode reset current one?

My question is, if I switch episodes do I lose all my progress in the current episode?

No.

Ding!

I switched to Episode 1 without losing my place in 4. However, considering Donari’s advice, I did have another toon about half-way through the green bar for Logan’s last mission and finished that up, just in case. I might experiment later when one of my characters has just a little progress on the green bar — at that point, switch, play some and come back to see if the progress is still there.

Edit: D’oh. Switching story episodes on one character does not affect another character. Just got befuddled for a little there.

Counter Magic without LS3 Ep1

Sarpan.9074

Not sure what you guys are talking about but I have counter magic and only have eps 3 and 4… I trained it from the masteries menu

I wasn’t saying which episode you had to play . You just had to enter BF to unlock the mastery track, then train up.

And, BTW, that’s what I did, going back to the first episode. I enjoyed it so much I played in there long after getting CM. Maybe that’s some of their logic behind this, getting people into content they might not otherwise try out.

That’s the boat I’m in. According to the Wiki, you have to enter Bloodstone Fen to unlock the Ancient Magics mastery, XP it up, then to get Counter Magic ability by engaging in combat with certain mobs. I’m off to do all that soon.

From the Wiki: “Gained during fights with some enemies in Bloodstone Fen after the Counter Magic mastery is trained.”

Entering BF unlocks the Ancient Magic mastery, so yeah, some playing there seems necessary.

One way or the other, for me, to even enter BF requires starting Episode 1, so I still need to be sure that doesn’t reset Episode 4 completely. I doubt it would, but I don’t want to take the risk.
