I haven’t stopped playing, and from what I did read of your complaints it sounds like there is a game that already perfectly fits your game needs.
What if I am also tired of that game, and I wanted something new and fresh but it didn’t reach my expectations and now I am saddened?
I didn’t stop playing. Also why do all of your points always refer back to WoW people are obviously going to never accept your points if all you are doing is comparing this game to it.
Well, because obviously, World of Warcraft have proved itself to be the most succesful MMORPG ever made, because it is there on it’s throne for 10 years, thats why.
- Casual activities – If I may call them such. This would include fishing, cooking (this should not be a major profession, or as they are called here – disciplines), farming mobs for materials, playing the auction house (a.k.a. Trading Post), more seasonal events…
No need to explain fishing, you just sit somewhere cozy, and start fishing for food, for loot or for achivements.
About the cooking, in my opinion it should be a secondary profession, just like in WOW, because… well, I can’t think of some big world-turning-reasons, but why not?
Farming mobs for materials. As I understand there is a very stupid and poorly implemented system in the game right now, that somehow forbids you from doing this… Why are they punishing us, the honest players, because of the bots, still there is now answer.
There are books written, for the WoW’s Auctuion House, and the way you can make money out of it without even going out of the city. The Trading Post here is not very good made in my oppinion, and its interface is horrible.
- Interface customization – As I understand, the developers have came out with a very clever statement, they wanted us to play the game, not the UI…. Well dear sirs, what if I don’t like the UI? I don’t know if you have a psychologist there to explain you about the human natures and minds, but every person have different tastes, which translated means that not everyone will like your interface. Yet another thing WoW made brilliantly and GW failed at – having a big community of modders and programmers which to create add-ons for every man’s taste.
- The traveling system – Maybe I am just saying this because I am an old school gamer, but this waypoint travel through the whole beautiful world is much more than boring. It kills the immersion, it kills the sense of being in big world. I don’t care if there are mounts or not, but there could’ve been at least some alternative methods for traveling – ships, carriages, wagons, zepelins, submarines even, whatever….. Anything that will give more authentic feeling than being in an actual world, rather than some combat gamefield where the goal is just to go quickly to point B from point A.
Just as a wise man once said, the fun is in the traveling itself, not the final destination.
- The Endgame concept – A big mistakes, many have made, and many will make, is trying to understand this animal called “Endgame”. If you ask me, this is exactly the problem.
A game should not be all about the game at the max level, it should be about having what to do at all the levels and not being rushed to go to the max level as quick as possible. See WoW – there were dungeons with cool loot, which encouraged you to do them many times. Then finally when you were good equipped and armored you could go to the bracketed PvP Battlegrounds and be the master of your level.
Yet still, there must be more things to do at max level, but THEY SHOULD NOT BE only PvP and PvE. There should be more casual activities as I have written above ^
- Being distinctive and untouchable – I didn’t knew how to say it in few words, but let me explain. In the real world, there are poor, not so poor, middle-class, rich, and extremely rich people. Some of them don’t like to look like the rest of the people, and they want to stand out of the crowd. Just like in a game, there should be distinctiveness between a casual gamer and a hardcore one. Meaning, the casual gamers and those who don’t have time to play should not be allowed to easily receive the rewards and loots which one hardcore and long-time playing person would have achieved. After all, this is an MMORPG, it is meant to be time-sucking.
Those are all the things I can think of now, if you came this far, I salute you.
Once again, please, if you are here to tell me why I am wrong, don’t bother.
If you are here to discuss those flaws I have pointed, you are welcome.
TL;DR – Go troll somewhere else.
(edited by Sartheris.8456)
First of all – I am writing this purely out of boredom, I don’t expect you to accept my point(s) of view NOR do I insist of giving me explanation why I am wrong. So if you don’t like what I am about to say, you may as well go to another thread.
Hello. I don’t think the developers will care to see my thread, but I just wanted to share what bothered me.
Me and few friends were very excited before the game was released. Then we started playing, enjoying it a lot. Then, little by little, the game flaws started to show up and one by one we stopped playing. As a seasoned veteran in the MMO games I think I have enough experience to be able to judge properly and give suggestions to what might be improved/removed/changed so here are some things I want to talk about:
- Crafting system – crafting should not meant to be a leveling alternative. It is there as a foundation of economy, it is there to give people purpose and to make them log in every day to gather materials to craft stuff, which they will sell, equip or gift. Also, a crafter should not be almighty, it will be good for the economy and for the comunity to have materials and components crafted by other professions.
- Grouping and socializing. One thing many other MMOs have failed at, is to make a game, which encourages you to group up and meet new people. One of the reasons WoW became what it is today, is because of the many such quests and events. Here in Guild Wars you are not required to group up with people, because there is no need, you neither get bonus xp, nor bonus gold, nor bonus loot. You can just stick with few random people, attack what they are attacking and then go and loot it. Also, there are not big groups (a.k.a. Raids) meant for more than 5 people.
- Open World PVP – Yet another thing which blasted WoW to the unreachable top where it is for many years. To some this may seem unnecessary, the fear of getting killed at any one moment and that’s ok – there were servers with PVP Off. For the rest of them, this was the biggest fun an MMO could give – always staying alert of not getting attacked, the pleasure of finding an enemy player and kill him, to gather a huge group and attack an enemy settlement, village, or even the capital city. These are one of the things that create unforgettable moments and memories, the messed up chat, the frustration, the disorganization, the fail, the succes… You will find none of these here by the way.
- Role-Playing – There are people who most enjoy being able to roleplay, to give their character personal story, to create funny events, to have their own house, to sit in a tavern and tell stories or just drink until they all pass out. This is poorly implemented here, I mean, you can’t even sit on a chair…
- Player/Player interaction – Why I am unable to give my in-game friend half a meter away a Trade request, is beyond me… A very basic thing which developer should first implement in their project called MMORPG, is missing here… Also why I am unable to duel people? If someone doesnt wish to be dueled, then ok, give them the option to decline Duel Requests. But for the other people this is a very fun time killer, to sharpen skills with friendly fellows, understanding the mechanic of a certain skill, or just for the rumble.
And now some crazy defender will come explaining that crafting HAS BEEN intended as another way of leveling, which is just making it worse actually!!! Crafting SHOULD NOT be for leveling!
I’ve never seen worse crafting in any game in my entire gaming carreer!!!
First of all, the recipe requirements are high and you have to grind like crazy to hope to make something. And by the time you are ready with the materials you will be way over the level of the item you cna craft.
I have Armorsmithing and I am currently at like 200 or something, and I am 50lvl. No need to tell that I can’t make anything usefull to me, and even if I could I have to buy ALL the materials from the TP which are tons of money.
The crafting disciplines themselves are boring too, most of them are just Make ingredient “A”, then make ingredient “B”, then make the inscription “XYZ” and there. At first I was excited about the recipe discovery method, but it got boring fast. So far I find the cooking to be the most interesting.
And now, there is the problem with the crafted items themselves, you end up with 10 helms and you say “Hey, I’ll sell them to make some fortune”, you check the prices in TP and you see that they are like the vendor price…
Remember the professions in World of Warcraft? They are completely different one from another, and then, you have the element where you would need an ingredient that you cant produce and will have to ask a friend to make it for you or buy it from the auction house. See, economy!
Why do you ask others to tell you what to like?
No, they should have to thinks of TONS new skills and their heads will basically explode
Events dont scale very good, agreed, there was a suggestion in the forums somewhere how it should increase, that with many players the attacks will have catapults, trebuchets and such, and maybe a big boss will come at the ends of the attack waves
Either allow add ons or give us some way to measure our dps
in Suggestions

Why? This isn’t WOW where there are DPS-only roles and they must perform perfectly their role. Here we do all the roles and it wouldnt matter if someone had 10k dps and the other one had 5k dps, because the other guy could’ve been doing other stuff, like supporting, debuffing, buffing, running away dodging kitten…
To anyone who would complain:
– Then put a simple option for Auto Decline All Duel Requests and we are all happy !!!!!!!!!!!
signed, especially fishing
Cool, lets also add Gunslinger, Sith Lord, Witcher, Dragonborn and Nuclear Physicist.
Ever tried to think a little before coming up with such ridiculous suggestions? Like, maybe, perhaps, probably, I dont know, stupid idea, THEY DONT HAVE PLACE IN THIS GAME WORLD???
Anyone else bored to death with the travel system? You just open the map, click on somewhere and poof! you are there. Wooohooo, so epic and intriguing and interesting.
(brings up the WoW card again) One of the funniest thing in WoW was the traveling, you had ships, you had zepelins and you even had a kitten subway! It felt realistic, you had time to observe the zones and meet new people while waiting or traveling…
Agree, most of the time I am teleporting I have to open the map and look for the same waypoint over and over, why not just save it as default?
It would be, I completely agree
The question is, why they didnt implemented it in the first place? I was surprised that SWTOR didnt had chat bubbles, a BASIC thing for any MMO, but no Trade system here is just ridiculous
More emotes! Like /kiss, /flirt, /insult and so on and so on
Does this even need a discussion? Why it is not present? Duels are not just for pee-wee measurements, but its for testing skills, effects and performance. It is a MUST for any MMO!
Agree about the swords, I totally hate anything acociated with animes/mangas, especially the huge swords and the way some characters are holding them
You guys missed the whole point.
It’s not about doing everything solo, or to do things only with friends/guildies.
It’s about the game doesnt encourage you to meet new people by joining groups or making ones, simply because it makes no difference in the situation and nobody bothers – you can still get XP and loot and buffs even without grouping.
cesmode I agree with the way you put it
The problem is not with the targeting, but that you can’t see it, wheteer its moving or casting something there is absolutely no way to see it
Maybe try asking them if they want to group instead of standing there with no one inviting you and complaining about it?
maybe dont come here responding stupidly and not contributing to anything?
Whenever I am in a big battle, I am tortured by the hundreds of thousands different sound effects AND more importantly, the huge mess that happens in the combat – the too many effects of all skills and that the enemy can not bet set to be with health bars above them, so you see their names like the others (see attachment).
How are we supposed to play like this???
When was the last time someone invited you to a party just to help them kill something or help them with event? Mine was never.
The problem I see is the shared loot, the thing where you can loot a monster even if someone else has started the fight with it.
This is why players dont feel like grouping up with others, because they can simply do that without a party. Thus, you are just another player passing by, missing tons of opportunities to meet new people…..
Least favorite – Norn males
actually they arent big enough, they should make them bigger, even more muscular, with bigger hands and wider necks!
This was kind of suggestion, but I want to hear other oppinions too.
Dont you find the camera to be a little, no, A LOT sluggish, like when you are turning it it starts accelerating and then it need one/tenth second to stop completely? For comparison check out the camera movement in WOW, it is sharp and steady
I agree, it is enough that we cant see them even if they are in front of us in a town, it would be good to see where they are (you know, interaction, socializations and stuff)
So far I like the combat and skill mechanics, but why the kitten when I equip 2 weapons with my Warrior most of the time he is beating with only the right weapon, and uses the left weapon for only the last 2 skills? Cool, let it be that way, byt at least make the base attack use both weapons…
They’re frustrating for a reason, that’s why you get an achievment for completing them.
this
Is it me or does Tyria feels like the most peaceful land ever in a fantasy world? There are 5 completely different races, with different religions, understanding, hierarchies and so on. In a real world such differents would cause a war before they can even know each other.
Ok, but that’s not the problem, I am wondering how does the PVP (the sPvP and the WvW) fit into the lore and the world? You walk around the cities, forests and everyone you meet is friendly, but suddenly you go to some warzone and you start killing each other?
And the stupidest thing to me is that in a game named Guild Wars, you cant actually be in a war with another guild… Now this would make sense for good war relations
The sound right now is like there is something stuck in the horn and you cant whistle properly….
I’d say “hate” is pretty appropriate when describing the two-person presentation.
I don’t extend that feeling to the story overall. Just that presentation style.
this
Still better than the Charr’s loud shout, when he’s landing, like he is being tortured or kittened up in the kitten real hard
(lol I love this censorship)
Absolutely agree, definitely big dissapointment for me, because I am huge fan of the music themes

I agree 200%, and I have already made a thread about this, the game needs so many more music themes, like in WOW
Hey all.
I like to talk to you about the story telling, or particulary these 2 person dialogs.
I don’t like it at all, and here’s why:
To me it looks like a cheap theater, with only 2 cheap actors at the same time (I am not a fan of theaters too) and it can hardly pull you into the event and bring you emotions.
Remember the quests in SWTOR? The story telling was AMAZING, you get to see the entire convesration, all the people, how they react and all that. It really made it look authentic (if thats the word).
Here you see only 2 persons talking at the same time, no emotions at all and after the converstation they all just stand there like nothing happened…
I still cant udnerstand how a game named GUILD WARS dont have the option to be able to give WAR to another guild/alliance, so you can actually beat the kitten outta the people when around the world…
The way the female norn is holding a greatsword looks too anime-ish to me, so YES, I agree that it should be changed
Thanks all.
Here I’ll mention WoW again, because for me this is the MMO with the BEST music themes ever!
So you start as a dwarf, there is a music for the whole outdoor zone where you are. You enter a small building and another music starts playing. Then you go in a cave – another music. Later you go in an inn – a tavernish music. Then you go to the capital city – city music unique to only that city. Later you go in some deserted building in the middle of nowhere – a mysterious song starts playing…
There’s nothing like it now in GW2
- Preview stuff from the Trading Post
- Add Two-Handed axes
- Add Crossbows
- Put in more RolePlay stuff – chairs to sit, empty houses for players to use…
- Weather – rain, clouds, fog, wind
- Inspect other players
Agree completely. One of the things I loved most in WOW was when I climbed some unreachable place, to sit down there, make a campfire and enjoy the view.
So I am asking for:
- Ability to make a campfire. And please let it stay for more than 5 mins so we can actually enjoy it (you can put some cooldown on it so it wont be spammed)
- Ability to make a camp (this just got in my mind) – like the above but with a tent, where you can sleep.
- Casual activities – fishing, some kind of competitive games in the cities and in the taverns, poker maybe
isn’t this like the dumbest idea EVER? It is a kitten mass huge biga** pvp where tons of people are supposed to splinter heads and stuff and to die a lot, and everytime you die you get damaged? This is simply ridiculous! And how exactly does that help low level people who want to participate and they get huge bill everytime they die…
It took me 30 levels to realize I was selling way too low than I should… Why is it marked by default? Especially for new people like me who dont pay much attention
I am putting “kinda” because overall the music is very good (we are talking about Jeremy Soule here, hey), the problem is the music themes are too few.
With my Charr I am listening to the same music since the first zone, then in Black Citadel, and then in Diessa Plateau… The biggest dissapointment is when I enter some inn and I was expecting to hear some sweet music that will delve you into the game atmoshpere, but there was nothing, no music at all…
That was one of WoW’s best cards, the awesome and unforgetable music themes, different for every place
Last night I was on my first Ascalonian Catacombs.
Overall everything was good, the story and the environment too.
The thing I am making this thread for is the combat itself, or the problem that you can’t see ANYTHING and react properly. What I am talking about is this – 5 people are fighting a humanoid creature (which is not very big) and he gets SWARMED with all kinds of effects, explosions, smokes, thunders, lightnings, space distortions, and whatever else you can think of. And in ALL THAT CHAOS you are supposed to see the boss’ actions and evade them and to things accordingly.
I am asking you Arenanet, how? Couldn’t you put a little bit more effects on everything, so we can’t see even our interface?
