Now it’s time to balance!

What needs to be changed:
1) Base stat Health Pools need to become the same for all classes.
-I know this is a hard one to swallow but it’s vital to better balance.
-This does not mean all classes will have the same health due to traits, skills, amulets, gear etc.

Good luck balancing thieves, eles and guardians with this change…

This game’s balance has been tweaked for years around these health pools and changing that would require gutting everything else to not completely break they game.

It’s not hard to swallow, it’s just a ridiculous suggestion. I can’t see how anyone wouldn’t see there would be a ton of problems with this change.

Maybe some of the other ideas were good, but when I saw this on it just kinda killed any credibility.

Well what do you expect when you aren’t play the mode properly? If you play the mode wrong you get punished, nuff said. Its like doing pvp and running around killling everyone but not standing in any of the circles….
You playing the game wrong, son!

You ain’t got any unblockables either so thats a reason why you took so long to land any kills….and the longer you go the less chances you have of securing kills of a larger group with a warrior (cause of our 60s cd’s). Go cleansing ire and take out ur berserker stance, or keep rousing resilience and remove ur endure pain for a signet of might.

Well condescending feedback is always much appreciatied, I just want to note that

1. I pretty clearly stated this vid is me basically doing everything wrong so giving critical feedback is kinda pointless
2. A lack of unblockables was the last of my problems in this video, playing bad was mainly why I didn’t get any downs. Outbreak and double stance is an extremely strong build in wvw roaming
3. While I appreciate all the build advice, it isn’t anything I haven’t heard or tried before, and I use sig often, outbreak,endure,zrk stance just consistently perform well in outnumbered fights.

You should probably not worry so much about telling people how they are playing the game wrong when they basically tell you that themselves, “son”.

In the first fight once my double arcing slice and hundred blade cleave on the single down didn’t get a few downs and I got stun locked it was gg

In the second fight once that second dh dodged my whirlwind into his single down buddy it was kind of over, especially once I kitten ed into the blades trap. If I would have hit him with an arcing slice after his dodge and then stunned the warrior I might have won, but I missed my window (I should have won that fight, lol).

In the third fight I kept constantly messing up really bad on focusing targets (usually when someone calls target on something I am on them like stink on kitten and they die) and once Bati was gone I just wanted it to be over and didn’t want to try and run, lol. I will say though I kept thinking (wrongly) that I should not stomp singles in that fight so Bati could stack condis for epis, but I shoulda stomped the stairs scrapper. If I would not have played like such a baddie we would have won that fight.

Proc’ing sig is great in many situations, but in none of those 3 would it have made much difference imo, I prefer to tick 900 heal / sec unless I am condi bombed. If I am that low generally i try to get hit by a light hitting CC to proc RR off of a headbutt, savage instinct, or outrage instead of using sig. It was just a bad day, lol. I lost more duels that night than I usually lose in a week too, feelsbadman xD

The Blood Reckoning build is just glass cannon with str / dis / zerk, but I was using durability rune. I put strength runes back into my alt ascended armor and Im using to now for the troll build. The numbers I get are insane but this week has been too laggy for me to really play it much.

The adrenal health build is just pretty much meta, using either armor attack or defy pain depending on map or what Im doing. And I use all zerk gear. Sometimes I use a cav ring and / or ammy.

Food and oil always change depending on how much gold I have handy. Im usually under 10 gold and use cheap stuff, lol.

I really want a POWER FEROCITY precision toughness 4 stat prefix to mix in with zerk gear… ANET please!

TLDR.

Better than sitting on hands and letting same URL that has been getting spammed for 4 years continue to be whispered. Also having an option to prevent whispers from non friends seems perfectly reasonable to me as well, if not just for spam but for trolls.

Look you guys can write a 50 page dissertation for all I care and you’re not going to convince me that the current solution of doing nothing is effective.

it has a definite end… Allow players to block anyone not on friends list from whispering. Allow players to make custom chat filters.

I mean after so many years of seeing this same URL in whispers with no filters in place I wonder if some of the conspiracy theories I hear about them are true.

the pvp*ank URL has been being whispered to me from nonsense names for years and it makes absolutely no sense that there is no programical way to deal with one static URL after this long.

It’s a .com even, not some obscure top level domain. Can we please have this dealt with? And honestly, if other domains are used, why not just filter them all? Even if you have to make it an option for some ridiculous legal reason, it makes zero sense this is still a problem. They don’t use any sort of obfuscation, they just put it right in there plain as day.

Make siege invulnerable for first minute

If you place siege properly the only thing that should ever hit is an ele meteor shower or other siege.

With cannons and hammers coming, the last thing we need are more siege buffs.

So if a zerg comes along and outman you, it is now completely pointless trying to destroy the catapults they put down as you can suicide to damage them but they will keep repairing, meaning it’s now a guaranteed cap for the larger team, and you’re just throwing a loot bag at them.

I guess all those that stood around watching the wall drop rather than trying to kill siege were right after all, there is no point running out and dieing to try and destroy it when it can be repaired so easily.

This is terrible.

I’m amazed that more people do not understand this.

I hope the trial period is very short and people realize how stupid these repair hammers are.

Idea for DBL: put WPs in Oasis

Make it a brawling area for all sides when you redo it while Alpine maps are live.

Label the WP with a warning or skull and crossbones or something, lol. Make it easily avoidable for players who do not want to participate in it, and wall it off so it cannot be used as a shortcut to the PPT objectives.

Would be fun as all kitten. Maybe something in the spirit of that idea would be better. Give it a borderlands bloodlust type objective so players than can contribute to the server.

5 hours queues

JQ is a T1 server and our pairing with IoJ has not created any huge queue problems at all.

So perhaps your suggestion is a little obtuse?

Sure TC has huge queues because they became a huge bandwagon 1 week before the patch when some really big guilds decided they wanted to game the system. And BG poached a bunch of guilds from servers who were worried about the future of WvW.

So maybe mass player migrations a week before ANET releases a major patch to how populations in WvW work is an extremely stupid thing to do? I feel bad for the lower pop servers who are paired with servers with manipulative meglomaniac leadership who went on guild buying sprees and ensured their queues are going to be a complete disaster until populations again migrate away from their server.

I just hope all pre new system gaming last week with forced player migrations does not rapidly increase player attrition when this new form of WvW should be increasing retention instead. Whatever the effect, it has been a good change that will improve the health of the game.

I say populations will migrate to avoid queues and find good communities with a healthy population of new blood for them to grow their guilds in, so given time we have a chance to get to a level of parity we have not seen before.

It might have the additional healthy side effect of creating goodwill between servers knowing how pairings may change in the future. Toxic communities will always exist, but anet could punish them by sticking them together and letting them hate each other instead of communities where people just want to kill red and compete with a bit of tact.

If ANET does the pairings right every quarter and learns from any misteps they might make, I think WvW will be healthy through 2016 if the beta tests continue to be so spot on with what the community needs.

A new scoring system, continued work on rewards and population, improving balance (make toughness reduce condi damage please), and showing that they are listening to players will keeps things alive when it really seemed we were on the edge of the abyss for this game just a month or two ago.

Please! WvW seems to be heading in a really good direction after your excellent patch this week, please fix this bugged Revenant trait before tonight’s WvW reset. Having a bunch of broken reventants running around tonight could really put a damper on a reset people have really been looking forward to!

We’ve dealt with broken revenent Coalescence of Ruin and it was not fun for most of us.

Hello!

One of my guildies has been asking for help with getting his controller setup working again. he recently upgraded to a new computer and the setup he used before is having some issues…

He uses MotionInJoy + JoyToKey and has a computer with Windows 10. Evidently he cannot hold a button down to toggle to using joystick 2 for menus? I’m not familiar with using controllers in GW2 but was hoping someone here would be and know about a fix for this.

Legendary weapons

I see this as a good thing. The shift from casual friendly content/gameplay/loot to the traditional ‘longterm progression (timesink/grind)’ and ‘endgame (elite content for a minority) ’ model was never a good thing in my opinion. It was catered to a very vocal minority, who advocated to be ’the veterans’, while in reality where only a fraction of the playerbase.

It’s never a good thing when a company fails to deliver a product as advertised.

Especially when they are dedicating a huge amount of resources into the next product they will force down our throats by giving false promises.

How about you halt development on your next expansion and finish everything promised in your lackluster HoT expansion first. This decision makes you seem like a bunch of crooks.

I really hope this game’s community makes you suffer when you launch your next expansion. Prepurchasing your next launch now seems like it will be completely foolish given how poorly you have delivered on this one.

ANET better not dare advertise new legendary equipment on your next expansion.

It seems that CoR spam is on its way back as soon as they finish working on a patch. I knew it was coming as soon as I read all of the crying on Reddit.

Can we just give CoR a range buff to 5,000, increase the damage coefficient to 4,000 and reduce the cool down to 0.5 seconds? I really think these changes would be wonderful for WvW.

At least we got a one week break from what is probably the most poorly balanced WvW skill in history of this poorly balanced game. Hopefully they buff condition application, nerf condition cleansing, and buff burn damage’s coefficient. That would make things much more wonderful as well.

It shouldn’t be any different than if you were standing in multiple lava fonts.

I keep seeing this argument from CoR lovers but it is so bad…

Lava Font:

  • channeling damage skill
  • it is stationary
  • it has a red ring on the ground to indicate where it is.

CoR

  • All damage is instant
  • It moves very quickly
  • The earthquake effect animation is sometimes culled or is easily obfuscated

Why do people ignore these facts when arguing why this skill is not in need of balance? This past week has been such a nice break from this horrible skill. It makes WvW nearly unplayable.

… Who the hell will build a keep like the fire keep ? With wall everywhere to block your defensive siege ?!?
Generally you build a keep on top of some hills, with clear area around to see your ennemy and to be able to shoot back with siege… But fire keep is underground with no line of sight around… Palace is surounded with ton of clif… Same for rampart…
North tower are useless… Same as south tower…

This was amusing to read because it is true. I’m sure plausibility is extremely low on the priority list for the GW2 dev team, but some of these new defensive structures are confoundingly bad.

The strategic and tactical advantages in many of the new structures is absurdly nonexistent. The map in general is just way too overtuned and I hope in the update they go back to some more simplistic designs like the old maps. We don’t need a choke, bunker. bend, hole, cliff, hiding spot, bridge, wall or any other annoying terrain every 10 feet.

Spread landmarks out, and make defensive structures smaller and more sensible so they are capable of fulfilling their purpose (and they definitely need much better line of site.

I think he made an apothecary rifle, at least he said he did. So probably using a bad build.

I wish they would run a tighter show instead of what we have now. It feels like watching 1990’s public access TV or something.

If they had the builds ready that would make things smoother for segments like this. They really need to be more scripted because they seem very uncomfortable ad libbing and it is super awkward to watch. I bet if they learned to use a teleprompter it would improve the show drastically and make it more enjoyable for the hosts and the viewers.

Not sure tbh… What would be a good trade off / way to balance a warrior getting a 3rd weapon in an elite like this?

I really think low weapon swap timers are integral to warrior play feeling right, if 3 weapons had a 10 sec CD on swap, it would feel too slow, losing the f1 skill if you opt for the 3rd weapon would make more sense, maybe the f1 skill would be replaced with something new in a 3 weapon elite spec?

I love the idea of stances becoming profession f skills though.

I’m weary of the mention of weapon swapping being made unnecessary being part of the balance changes. If they simply remove fast hands, it would just ruin the cadence of skill rotations.

Maybe a trade off would be lowering the weapon swap CD to 7 seconds and removing fast hands? I just think faster weapon swapping should be a staple of the warrior’s play and never change.

Please disable the oasis event until fixed.

It makes WvW on the borderlands completely unplayable. Since WvW patches are so rare and run on an extremely slow cycle, could you just disable the event all together?

Hopefully you are aware of the issue by now after the persistent complaints by the community since HoT launched nearly a full quarter ago.

  • Supply cost for all catapults are being reduced by ten supply. The layout of the Desert Borderlands map has increased the number of catapults required to take some objectives. We agree with your feedback that also increasing the cost of catapults pushed the balance too far towards defense so we are tuning that more towards offense….

These are great changes to see! Please consider making guild catapults cost less than standard ones again, havoc teams depended heavily on them and having guild catapults were always such a nice thing to have.

Maybe not 25 supply like before, but 35 for guild, 40 for regular, and 50 for superior?

Hopefully we see more oft requested changes make their way into the game in 2016! Happy Holidays

Sometimes they are under the map, occasionally they are not… They teleport from tree to tree to gather.

The worst thing is, they are often too fast to report for botting, and the ones that are underneath the map cannot be selected to report.

I really hope ANET is able to fix this soon, it is really disheartening to see so many cheaters running rampant.

I feel CD management gets less priority now

Even if you take the Revenant CD + Energy spam out of the equation (and energy as a mechanic right now is extremely undertuned IMO), if you look across the board at the other elite specs and their weapon / utility / elite skills, CDs seem to be creeping lower.

Look at Scrapper, Druid, and even Berserker. I mean sure maybe their theme is to play fast, but what it seems to amount to is skill spam.

It seems like as GW2 has matured, skill spam continues to grow out of hand and the balance team has either lost touch with what CD management is all about, or are losing battles with the PvE team that leave them stuck with ever decreasing cool downs.

It seems this is a trend that started with condition application becoming more and more spammable all of the time, and the way they decided to balance after that damage had been done was to reduce CDs across the board.

If you look at the different weapons and compare some of the new spec weapon skills to the old school GW2 weapon skills, this becomes more evident:

Revenant looks to consistently be the worst offender of this paradigm shift, and I feel like it dumbs down the game significantly.

Hopefully they decide to make skills hit harder, have longer CDs, and give the biggest hitter better tells so counterplay is more about understanding how to fight, and less about spamming skills.

An Honest Question for the WvW Devs

So today I decided to run around on the new borderland map and try to look at it from a fresh perspective. While doing so I came across a cliff overlooking the west keep’s lava flow and the shrine of fire. here’s the question:

The first group of pictures is the top ledge that drops down to another ledge that appears to just be a total dead end. Once you jump down there, you are stuck. You cannot drop down, you cannot go back, you are simply at a dead end. Your options seem to be to suicide jump, WP to a keep / spawn, exit WvW, or log out.

Could you please evaluate the decision that went into putting this spot in the game and consider it is a good example of poor execution on the new maps? Was it put on the map as a joke in some attempt to troll players? Like so many other decisions made for WvW it just makes little sense.

Just wanted to comment that Heart of Thorns has been been one of the best new game experiences I’ve ever had (only a couple Zeldas from childhood and possibly Planescape: Torment stand out as more memorable at this point, though I’d almost put HoT over PST at this point…. Hopefully you guys have as good of an Act 3 plot twist up your sleeve as they did!).

I’ve not reached that far yet, but the story pacing has felt really excellent to this point. Thanks ANET, you guys really knocked this one out of the park! I hope you’re all basking in the good reviews and satisfaction of a job well done this weekend.

I’m also hoping your LS season 2 and upcoming quarterly balance patches for PvP / WvW impress me as much as this expansion has, cause it will be amazing times for GW2 this winter… Looking forward to it, thank you!!!

It’s basically making sure we are on our best behavior when HoT goes live. Remember there will be people from the gaming press and youtube fame; coming in for their one time look at HoT. Also all those new players who are coming into GW2 for their very first time. Or perhaps a second time after taking a long break for some vets who left awhile ago.

There could have been a big hedge maze, and the planets, moons, rings, stars, etc could work like a clock that move in patterns allowing you to advance up to the star (Dwayna’s Heart?).

There could even be multiple hidden chests that could only be accessible when things line up just right at certain times of the day / week / month.
