I think he’s talking about having time zone specific ladders, so people could join a server where only people in their timezone could play. That way you have to set your alarm clocks or work third shift if you want to night cap someone.
I think CD has won in the past against TC for this very reason.
I can’t help but think the serenity prayer couldn’t help alleviate some of the tempers in this thread. Alcoholics or those raised by alcoholics may know of which I speak…
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change—-
(I.e. Other people’s coverage, population… and even sometimes exploits, spying or other things out of your control)
The courage to change the things I can,
(Like the outcome of an individual battle, the fate of that Yak heading to the besieged keep or the tower needing a desperate upgrade.)
And the wisdom to know the difference.
(Maybe you can’t influence how populations and coverage influence the match, but maybe you can impact your own server population in some way. Can you teach PvErs how to Dub bee Dub, can you make cool videos that attract people to your server, can you recruit in other social mediums? Etc. Etc. )
As a TC’er, I’m looking forward to fighting Yak’s next week. If nothing else, their forum community is awesome. haha
Maybe orange, blue and red commander icons. That way communication to what squad needs more reinforcements would also be easier.
I agree with Michael on this one.
How are you so certain that it’s fear and not simply… wanting to gain 90% of several maps instead of one? Maybe you are the ones making it not fun by preventing the 90% captures in other maps?
There would be little to stop a “play-to-win” guild from buying many accounts, placing them on your server and have them voting for their own account commanders. To list all the ways this could be exploited would take me a long time.
So… the people that multi-box, now instead of simply botting to make easy money, they can influence the rally icons on the map? No thanks. I would rather the capital democracy where people can fundraise for icons now, then the easily exploitable one with a voting system. Heaven forbid, you get 6 commanders that are bots and new commanders can’t get on the screen or have squads formed.
Now this ofcourse doesn’t look like 50 guys because the screenshot doesn’t show the rest of the group behind me (due to me already being dead), but this is the mid day zerg around 3pm rolling through the CD borderlands where maybe 10 or so people are there to defend.
The zerg then dissapears once they have capped everything and heads to EB, where they roll everything there.
And when we group everyone together and go to seige the keeps back, the zerg is no where to be found – they just let everything fall and we get to go through empty keeps full of used seige golems.
I will be sure to get a better screenshot of the zerg as they roll in every 1.5 hours into our borderlands anytime after 4 am until about 4 PM. Everytime we seige up to defend the zerg will magically dissapear after they get pushed back and head back to EB. We can’t even get them to fight or stay long enough for us to fight them.
It’s nice to call this strategy and “coordination in order to win”, but it is not fun and it’s not PVP, its PVDOOR.
So you’re saying you got killed by a …door? that’s what I am gathering here, because it obviously was not a group of players that killed you…
Just stop, please.
From what I gather, this means he wants the 20… maybe 30 to wait around in the borderlands where they have capped everything, hoping the enemy shows up, instead of moving to another field where there appears to be a fight going on because CD has territories controlled?
I haven’t seen our resident TC troll show up recently, his last post on this thread actually seemed somewhat decent. I really need to learn to ignore the trolls, thanks for that call out Altie.
In other news, I’m definitely pumped for another server to fight as well. A good three way with Tarnished Coast hasn’t happened for almost a month. With weird retail peak season hours, Commander Floxxx hasn’t gotten that much play time, I’m relegated to stalking the forums for news on my beloved Toasters…
Thanks Mystic for those write ups! They help me live vicariously. xD
All newbies in TC interested; In Lions Arch at 7:00 PM Eastern, Thursday, I will be holding my training academy for newer WvWvW cadets and choosing a battlefield to go to that will be least disruptive to the armies present.
We will have a short question/answer and try to move on from some advanced stuff this week after the supply camp training last week, however will adjust the skill level of the academy based on those who attend.
I want to see screen shots of these 60 people refusing to fight.
It could be a guild of 20 guys that goes and caps, refusing to fight the 30 CD guys. With rendering, I don’t believe player counts half the time from my own team.
You look at the buff on the enemy character, it will show the commander buff.
Uhm, we don’t like to PvDoor so much. Can you take the generalizations out of this thread TheFugs? The general tone of this thread before these complaints has been genial and full of conversation about the competition. It is possible that your perception of how things are do not match reality?
I mean, saying TC is coordinated enough to find every weak spot where the CD crew is not able to defend is a compliment. If my server is doing that well at scouting easy locations to take, then it’s not about PvDoor, it’s about them finding the best strategy to accumulate uncontested points. This isn’t a 24/7 battle, it’s a 24/7 war.. and wars aren’t fought by running into the enemy constantly, sometimes it’s about flanking the enemy and taking the ground they cannot defend.
Sun Tzu short version: Attack where the enemy retreats, retreat where the enemy attacks and attack where the enemy least expects it.
Some people greatly overestimate the drop chance of a golem in the puzzles and underestimate guilds abilities to pool gold together for golem armies. It’s easy for my small guild to gather enough gold for two commanders, that’s 200 golems now that they aren’t spending gold on another commander rune.
If guilds want golem armies, or servers for that matter, then they don’t need a jumping puzzle at all. If your highly upgraded keep can fall to the number of golems that are dropped from the jumping puzzle, then you need more arrow carts and more scouts.
TCer here. I’m pumped for it.
Aye, it’s why I love reading Yak’s and CD’s battle threads. TC is a lot like that whenever a tier 2 comes down to womp on us, we often don’t quit. Getting three scrappy servers together would be real fun. I imagine some good coordinated 2v1ing could even put TC down to an even keel against YB and CD; as part of a natural balancing in three way matches, not something to be q.q’d against.
Mighteous seems a lot like a roleplayer that manages to stay in character a lot (if not all the time). As an RPer on TC, I enjoy reading his flamboyant obviously narcissistic posts.
I like to visit FA threads just to see them complain about fighting TC’s “overwhelming night presence.” I hope we at TC get to fight Yak’s, they don’t seem to complain as much even when losing. I think YB, TC, CD would be a fun fight.
With the 30+ golems, you are looking at 3,000+ supplies… even if some are guild siege suits, that’s still what, 2, 500 supplies? At that point, they are either sacrificing supply inside tower/keeps and/or been given a ton of time to gather supplies from camps.
Even if they were free, that means they still had the skill and coordination to gather/use that many supplies. If the enemy couldn’t capitalize on that by taking a point as the golem army marched, then that’s them and not the game mechanic. I think a server using that many supplies for any army should be rewarded with taking points quickly. That’s a great use of supplies on a mobile siege battery.
It seems now that orbs have been removed, siege are being blamed for snowballing. If not siege, numbers. I’m not particularly fond of this trend of blaming things for losing.
A couple of things…
Remember WvWvW is not balanced around 1v1. With all the different gear available, even scaling of stats to 80 cannot balance the traits and gear available to everyone who enters the WvWvW arena.
What you are seeing can be different from what the other person is seeing. Server lag is a real thing, client lag is a real thing. When fighting theives, any sort of lag between what the server reads and what the client reads will give them a perceived advantage greater than the one they already have.
Read what I said carefully. Greater than they already have, because yes, they do have an advantage in mobility. As a thief, I see this clearly. I continually shortbow race heartseeking spam thieves as a test. I only seem to go faster with the trait that also gives me a 33% speed buff, on top of the signet of shadows 25% and the speed from dodges.
One of the greatest advantages a thief has is morale busting, we’re constantly seen as “speed hacking, exploiting culling, and being an OP class” because stealth is one of the greatest weapons of war… ever since Sun Tzu, and has always been acknowledged as such.
Has this stuff gone blank for anyone else?
I’ve seen a few people using the party of theives dagger storm to mow down a zerg, I think it was used by SFD on MAG server. I believe they also had a meteor storming party of elementalists that were putting on the hurt to our zergs.
I myself have been a part of some thief squads, though coordination is always a lot harder in live-fire situations. We noticed our greatest strength was the target dropping, it was easy for a couple of us to disengage while another couple came to clean up the rest of the fight. The foes had a hard time, understandably, keeping track of any one of us to finish us off.
That is a problem, understandably, while our guilds get more organized… we have trouble communicating in VOIP and whispers, as well as team/map. In CD BL early after reset, we mostly were communicating with our guilds and it worked well in taking both garrison and hills with little manpower.
With my thief, against a bad team, I can also do get behind an enemy squad and take down the siege.
However, it’s very noticeable when a team that knows what they are doing is around their siege. Whirling knockdowns keep me flat on my back, AoEs are everywhere and some kitten warrior is standing near the siege, ready to flatten me out- yes, even when I’m stealthed.
This has been a great fight so far!
A higher badge drop rate would be nice.
I encourage TC’ers to sign up to TCgw2.com for important Dub Vee Dub information.
I agree with Scree in this regards. The wording has a lot of people thinking Anet is giving in to terrorists… well, not as dramatic, but about equal in the gaming world.
While I don’t think they were as gameplay breaking as some make them out to be (plenty of vids with people dominating more numbers despite them having three orb buff and full 80), even the placebo effect of them giving the dominating advantage is enough to snowball morale.
I think this was a smart decision until they can get a more permanent fix to the orb hacking dilemma.
Camping one spawn exit of three is not- not spawn camping, it’s just spawn camping one of three spawn areas. Anet has already said they are addressing this issue, I linked the post earlier in this thread. Can we move on from the dead horse please?

I support the Tarnished Coast leaving ET alone when they are taking towers.
I’m sorry for any ET that was mistakenly slaughtered in my squads’ run on SoR BL last night. My guys get into a bit of a killing frenzy… even when we don’t own a single camp on the map for very long. They see red and it’s like blood to a shark. lol
I’m not on Stormbluff. But this is one of the best tier 1 posts ever. I applaud such great sportsmanship and tact in this post. I think I found which upper tier team I will be rooting for in the future.
Go SBI!
Until we fight you… then, I’ll see you on the battlefield.
Yeah... Only 2 more days of useless WvW - Score Update TC/SoR/ET

The orb mechanic only snowballs due to morale or casuals, while it helps a coordinate group fight a coordinated group… my little Shadow Legion can often beat more numbers with no orbs, we’ve had to fight dominating servers since launch and I don’t think any of us complain that players with 3 orbs are too stronk. Not really sure what all the q.q is about.
I wish we could get international players on the Tarnished Coast. Thing is, we’re a full server with insomniac RPers (like myself) and a semi-night presence, thank you Aussies and Oceanics! I believe we even got an Asian guild or two. We won’t dominate night, but we have more than some others and… well, it’s always tricky to transfer into since we have that whole unofficial RP title thing giving us a ton of players who come to experience immersion, be it in PvE, the tavern OR dub vee dub.
Still, all that said, it must be awesome to practice different languages from people around the world… and get to understand their perspectives a little better. I know the stereotype of the ugly American tourist, but I believe there are actually quite a few of us that love learning about other cultures and would try to adapt to them… instead of asking why they aren’t adapting to us. Hell, if the Spanish moved in force to TC for example, I know I’d work my damdest on relearning Spanish just so I could continue to serve as a functional commander on the server.
Whoo. Took two towers, even got our spawn tower back. Good to see the Coast still fighting in the SoR Borderlands. (Commander Floxxx). Keep it up Toasters!
Aren’t superior blueprints craftable?
I don’t know how anyone could pretend to think SoR has even a 20% unskilled population in their WvWvW. You guys have a lot of experience and coordination across the board, when you are putting your backs into it… like during weekend primetime.
@Mara. Thanks for being a good sport and standing up for the integrity of the game. As a some-time commander on the coast, you have my sincerest respect and thanks.
I don’t think it’s that easy. It would take away from a ninja team of 5 (to avoid orange battle markers) breaking into a wall with a catapult and stealing the orb, as well as some other small man team tactics that make the game enjoyable for those that don’t want to organize 40+ man squads to take the orb.
I think Anet is approaching this problem professionally with a well thought out answer, instead of making a knee-jerk response that could cause other problems.
WM, from what I understand, is a Korean guild that was one of the guilds that dominated the Guild Wars 1 PvP environment. Now, I’m not from that era… but if one of their early franchise stakeholders is making a statement like this, maybe it’s worth paying attention. Just because WM has some English speaking problems doesn’t mean their opinion is worth any less.
I’m glad to see Anet addressing server transfers to a degree. Now it appears they have the orb problem to address.
Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Thank you! We appreciate this response to the WvWvW community.
On the subject of spawn camping…
You can see Matt Witter’s full post here.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Small-update
Hi everyone!
First off, good luck to everyone on the new matches, and congratulations to Kaineng on their first win!
Some have asked for an update regarding WvW, and what work is being done on it. As….
We are also looking at ways to better support players that are getting shut down on maps. Again this is something very new, so we are not able to say anything on how this will work. However, the goal is to make players able to leave the spawn areas with ease….
Now, if one of the lead Game Designers acknowledges the difficulties in leaving the spawn area, I can only presume those justifying spawn camping most know more than those who designed the game. /sarcasm
Just because you are spawn camping one exit of three, doesn’t take away from the fact that you are spawn camping.
To the one FA guy complaining of the treb shot from the tower towards the citadel, lol. When TC is talking about spawn camping, they are talking about a dozen ballistae, multiple trebs with both cow and boulder fire in the Eternal Battle grounds. (See attached photo.) We’re not talking about the random raid through the north supply camp that happens to be near your spawn in your home borderlands, or that treb firing for the lolz towards the invulnerability area.
These trebs firing in Eternal were protecting their ballista, which’s entire point was to keep the primary spawn exit locked down.
As far as TC being as fairweather as FA, I also laugh.
We have had queues multiple times in different maps, even when we own only a supply camp. Anyone who refuses to acknowledge the tenacity of the Tarnished Coast Militia and Guilds is simply in denial or envy. While it may appear that we are outnumbered, often times it is simply due to the nature of our fractured armies. We have some great skirmishers harassing back lines, while SoR brings an entire 40+ man guild towards our slowly growing 30+ man squad made of rugged individuals.
The primary reason for this loss isn’t orbs or numbers, we were simply outplayed during the opening matches. I know it’s easier to state that it was the orbs’ fault, the fairweathers’ fault… many other things’ fault, harder to swallow that we are fighting better opponents. But I’ve seen them take a tower, dropping siege to defend it, before the siege lord is even down. I rarely see them break ranks in an organized fight, they move and fight together in beautiful maneuvers. I’ve learned a lot fighting some of these SoR guilds. Sure, there is -some- snowballing. But after coming back and beating SoS, I know the snowballing isn’t enough to defeat TC.
SoR has some very skilled, very tenacious fighters. While they have their trolls (See: something flame for TC), they are overall good sports and great fighters. Just like we have our 5-man groups trying to pounce FA’ers at spawn, SoR has 15-20, because they have larger guilds/groups to do anything our individuals typically do.
Maybe in time, TC will form more large scale WvWvW guilds. In the meantime, I’m proud to fight with some of the best small WvWvW guilds and militia in the game.
For the Coast!
With a high toughness build, I can tank a few ballistas for folks using my face. However, it’d be nice to know if there are other ways then face tanking on other professions. Obviously I know that face tanking is the only way to tank siege as a thief however.
I would like to see more about this as well. Does anyone know?
I’m not sure, I run thief as well, however I run a o/o/30/20/20 build that is counter to glass cannons with a superior merc set to rez people that get downed by glass cannons. Often times, a glass cannon thief will hit me in the back, and I’ll turn around and dual pistol them to death because… they simply cannot damage me. haha
Yeah, armor does not equate to toughness. I run with 2.2k toughness and will rarely, if ever, get hit with 4k dancing daggers. However, when I was squish as this, then yes… that does sound about right.
I see my ignore user feature on the forums is not working. And Kalemar, we’ve not given up. We’re simply plotting for our next rebellion.
I wonder if every PvP game always had the same arguments to justify their spawn camping. Sure, it’s a tactic, but it’s not one that most with any sportsmanlike attitude have… and it’s something that Anet has already stated they are working on a way to fix this tactic being utilized by such awesome winners as split.
