The reason why the sellers are the only ones that show in your LFG screen is because those take longest to fill up, so they will appear in the LFG screen for an extended period of time. Normal runs usually fill up within a minute, maybe slightly more.

If you only find people selling arah, and you wish to do a normal run, why don’t you post an LFG yourself? It takes nothing more than a few clicks on your keyboard to get that done.

As long as people are willing to pay for a dungeon running service, people will keep doing it, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

[PvE] Revising the "DPS Meta"

in Profession Balance

Scyte.2801

What can Anet possibly do against the DPS meta? They can’t make clerics gear better for DPS than berserker’s… Since this game is built of hardly anything but kill mobs → kill boss → walk → kill mobs → kill boss → done, obviously people will choose the fastest way to do those things, wich is ofcourse to deal as much damage as possible. The only viable way to fight this meta is to make content too hard for teams of full berserkers to complete, or to redo every single instance in the game. What will this mean for the future?

- Content will be too hard for casual players.
- The holy trinity will return and become a new meta.
- People will start to complain about the holy trinity and content being too difficult.

Even if Anet will buff non-DPS classes to where they become useful, DPS will still be the main factor to speed things up. It just isn’t possible to create a world where every class with every setup will be able to do a smooth and quick dungeon run. Whatever changes will just determine what classes with what builds we will pick to be the new meta, and cause a new set of complaints from people who get kicked from parties for not running what they want them to run.

That’s the joy about the Elementalist. You don’t use your autoattack unless you’re out of other options, wich is well.. Very rare. Or use the Lightning Hammer, that one has a strong autoattack

It is by no means unfair compared to other classes how little damage the autoattacks on Ele’s do. You’ll be amazed when you see howmuch damage an ele can pull off without using a single autoattack.

Before this update my FPS while standing still in LA would hang around kitten. When walking around in LA it would drop to about 30-35.

Now however, EVEN when my character limit is set to the lowest, my FPS in LA while standing still hangs at 20-25, and when walking around I’m looking at a 5 FPS slideshow. Yay.

Not to mention that even when I set my character quality to high, or even highest, people will still appear with the standard low-res armor and wield their 2-handed weapons in 1 hand.

For me it was perfect how it was before. At least allow us an option to turn the culling settings back to how it was. It’s just no fun for me looking at a slideshow whenever there are more than X ammount of people on my screen. I won’t spend a dime on upgrading my computer because I will simply not spend money on making this 1 update that I don’t even care about at all work out for me. It worked fine before so why can’t it now?

The gold > gem convertion rate is not nececarily wrong. Whats wrong is like what the OP initially mentioned. Stuff like bank slot expansions, new character slots and even the infinite harvesting tools are worth that kind of money, wich cause the gems to reach that convertion rate.

The problem is that smaller scale items, like boosters and kite fortunes for example, are ridiculously expensive now and simply not even close to worth buying.

The issue is not the gold > gem convertion rate, wich is controlled by players. The issue is the pricetags on certain items, wich is controlled by arenanet/ncsoft.

Scyte.2801

I just did a Fractals run, and I don’t think I have ever been this livid about a game bug. Everyone who runs fractals has encountered this series of bugs, because they have been present since Fractals was released. harpies randomly going invulnerable, and the real rage generator, getting knocked off and instantly getting defeated. Now I have monitored what is causing this to happen, and sometimes it is because you get downed while flying in the air about to be spawned back, or you are downed and get hit by a lightning orb after that. This makes sense, sort of, but that is not always the case when I find myself defeated instead of downed.

Especially today, I have had the fortune numerous times of running up towards the harpies, and before I’m even there, getting hit by a lightning orb at full HP, and getting instantly defeated. This happened enough times to even fully break a few armor pieces, while i had only been defeated once legitimately on that fractals run. So I hope you can understand that I am slightly angry because of this.

Would this bug not have been here, my repair bill would’ve been 1.64s, but now because of this bug it was over 11s. That is a 10s loss because of a flaw in the game, in 15 minutes time.

So this made me wonder.. Why are all the glitches in fractals that allow players to skip content, make boss fights easier, or whatever always fixed as soon as possible, while this bug that has been known to exist for a long long time is still around? Is it because this doesn’t speed up the run and/or the money gains so you don’t care?

So I was happy for a moment..

Seeing how the Canach’s Lair gave over 1 gold per character really made me smile. I thought we would finally have the option to make some real money, and that completely solo, no need to rely on 4 others. It seemed too good to be true, and it was.

I was hoping it would have been on daily basis. After the huge economy explosion ruled by the CoF farmers and powertraders, making enough money to stay on your feet without doing CoF all the time is incredibly hard, and I thought this would finally allow people who dont enjoy grinding CoF to make an acceptable ammount of money in a short period of time, once per day at least. Really, 10 gold per day is a reason to log in, and yet it’s nothing too extreme seeing how this economy is these days. Just disallow characters younger than 24 hours old to enter the instance and the issue of people who create new characters all the time would be gone.

Sad day, I thought arenanet finally did something good for the community for these 2 weeks, but it was just too good to be true..

Retaliation was nerfed?

I always die by retalation… because i use thief shotbow, retalation x3 every shot i recieve 900/1k dmg per sec and my signet of malice heal me…. 120 (120 × 3 = 360 heal per sec)

Thieves need more heal from this skill in WvW

What do you say Jeffrey Vaughn?

PD: I know this is not the place to put this.

No. If you get killed by retaliation it is because you are unaware and kill yourself on it. If you see you are getting hit by Retaliation, stop attacking, or swap to another weaponset to wich Retal is less painfull.

It’s kind of the purpose of Retaliation, making the attacker pay for attacking you. The way it is right now, is good. It’s a boon worth using because it has a noticable effect, yet it’s not overpowered. If every class would be able to easily outheal retaliation, it would become a usekitten on.

As long as you don’t have any sort of contact with botters or gold sellers, you should have no issues. Arenanet needs solid proof, or the situation needs to be suspicious enough to where it’s near impossible that it was legitimate, to even ban you. In-game lotteries/prize-awarding games are not a new thing, there are many guilds that do them, and you shouldn’t fear for getting banned for handing out prizes to friends.

If sending gold through mail was a bannable offense, they wouldn’t have implemented it in the game. And if sending lots of gold was a bannable offense, they should have set a daily cap to howmuch gold you can send/recieve.

What feature do you miss from your old MMO

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Scyte.2801

What do I miss from other games.. A whole lot actually.

- I miss content. Here you get 100% world completion in about a week time and then theres not much more to see.
- Elite area’s. I miss this from gw1, because in an elite area you were free to set your own path, no NPC who bugs you the entire run telling you what you need to instead of figuring it out yourself, and pretty much the ability to litteraly get lost inside an instance.
- Teamwork. With the loss of the trinity its really each man for themselves. I miss the depth of teamwork from other games, especially GW1, where every individual had its own purpose and responsibility, where if 1 person failed to fulfill its purpose, the consequences for the entire team would be immense.
- Decent ways of making money. Because really, in this game, the only decent source of income is dungeons. I really dislike the dungeons in this game, and other than dungeons there is nothing to do to make a decent ammount of money.
- Less drastical RNG, to a point where you could reasonably expect to get a monster drop within not too much time. Precursors in this game are what I’m mainly leaning at, the chance to get precursors is so small that it’s unreasonable to even expect to get one at some point. Because this wasn’t as drastical in other games, every time you would do a dungeon/elite are/whatever the exitement was there because getting a really good drop wasn’t astronomically rare. Here I have yet to get a drop that will put a smile on my face, even after 3k hours of playtime. And doing dungeons/fractals/world bosses/whatever just becomes a lot less fun because of that.

And the list could go on, but im gonna leave it at this.

I don’t disagree that some people have more fun with things go quickly and smoothly. Some people do enjoy speed clears as a type of fun, its a challenge to see how fast they can do it. However, most of the people, when you ask them why they do speed clears – their answers have nothing to do with fun. They do it ‘because it’s the best way to make gold’ ‘because there aren’t any normal groups doing it anymore’ ‘because I just want to get it done’ And what’s worse, is that once the speed clear mentality is established, then everyone feels that is how it ‘must’ be done, and thus no one does it ‘old school’ ‘just for fun’ anymore. I cite FoW, UW, DoA, and Urgoz from GW1 as prime examples of this issue. Since this game does not have heroes for those that ‘dont have the right class’ to get into the speed clears, those people are just supposed to be ok with being excluded? Its ok that their playstyle isn’t tolerable? I think not. You don’t want your play style excluded, well neither do we.

You cite GW1 speedclears to be a victim of this problem. Well you might have just found yourself the right person to argue with. I was a great fan of speedclears in GW1, in fact, it was the only thing that kept me playing that game after having achieved my 50/50 HoM points and GWAMM. I didn’t even do it for money. In fact it would cost me more money than I would earn most of the time. I just did it to improve my skill on each individual role, because that was my deffinition of fun. No money involved.

So why did this become the standard? Because the community wasn’t interrested in doing something randomly, while you can do it 10 times faster if you run a speedclear setup. The game got older, and the community of people who did randomway elite area runs had become near-extinct, because they were far too time consuming and far too likely to fail miserably.

So why is this “issue” also promoting itself in GW2, where everything CAN in fact be completed, no matter what party setup you bring? Because of for example AC path 1 and 3, the burrow events. No class can spike down burrows like an elementalist can. They make the burrow events during those paths a piece of cake and almost guarantee you to complete it without struggling. So what class would you always want to bring for an AC P1/3 run? Right, an elementalist. That’s just common sense. And that’s just the beginning.

The group of casual players who want to play whatever class and build they want to play in this game is nowhere near extinct though. You can see an immense ammount of complaint posts about this subject on this forum. You all should group up instead of individually complain. It’s an issue formed by the different kinds of players within the GW2 community, not by arenanet themselves. They have done a great job in dumbing down the benefits of running specific team setups vs running randomway compared to how it was in GW1. But again, there will always be a group of people who are unhappy about the current situation. There are 2 sides to everything, and people tend to forget that.

The best way to really “fix” this “problem” that we’re facing here, is to introduce an in-game LFG tool where you can tick wether you are looking for a casual group or an experienced group. Casual meaning any class and experienced meaning premade setups for example. That would sepperate the casuals from the elitists so that everyone can find the group they want to play with. This can already be done through gw2lfg, but there are still many people who are unaware of this tool, wich is why an in-game LFG tool would be much appreciated.

I find it interesting that you’re fine letting people play as they please, but its OK for people to be excluded….. and ‘that better not change’ So, you’re fine with it so long as its YOUR profession that isn’t excluded. Maybe one day it will be your turn to get nerfed into oblivion, then we’ll see how you feel about that.

I have every class at level 80 and geared out in full exotic or better. I did this specifically to always be able to reroll to something that might be more efficient for the team I’m running with. So this statement is invalid. I have experienced meta changes a lot back in GW1, and have had to create new characters because they overpowered characters I played previously. I have accepted that and embraced it, because I care enough about efficiency to work for it.

“Its all about how fast they can do it”

Great….its not about having fun anymore. The game has become a job….again.

“But that’s how they have fun”

Really? Lat time I checked ‘fun’ wasn’t a word given in any of those answers. Its all about time and money.

+1 for nerfing speed clears.

On topic:

OP, I’m very sorry to hear that people treat you this way because of your class choice. Sadly, much of the community seems to be ok with this shallow means of game play and are happy to roll the ‘preferred’ classes themselves in order to do group content. Like you, I much prefer to play as I please and not be shackled into the community’s narrow expectations. Thus, why I play alone 95% of the time. XD

I tend to enjoy the time I spend on this game more if any runs i do go fast and flawless. And as you can see I am not the only one. People simply have different prefferences for their dungeon runs, and you can’t blame anyone for playing the game THEY want to play it. Wether that be with or without being selective on what classes you take in your groups.

I myself don’t form pug groups exept for Fractals, where I accept pretty much any class as long as there is a presence of heavy classes. I don’t like to constantly kick people out of my group because they don’t run what I want them to run, so I stick with groups of friends who all agree that pre-organized runs make it much more fun for everyone.

I’m just kind of sick about everyone complaining about their class not being accepted in dungeon groups. It’s not going to change, and it better not be, or a huge part of the currently active community will simply quit the game. Just accept the fact that certain people play this game to get the best out of everything. It’s nothing but arrogant to want the elitist kind of gameplay in this game to disappear. You let us play how we want to play, we let you play how you want to play. Simple as that.

There is something you must realise. Not everyone does dungeons/fractals or whatever just for the sake of completing it. Once people get familiar with the content they want to improve on it. Expand their boundries, do the things they have done but twice, three times as fast, for both fun and econimical reasons. And when you start to think about that, certain classes will simply overpower other classes in their capability of contributing to a faster, better run. It’s like that in every game.

In your case, you play a thief, why will you get kicked when you play the game just fine? It’s simple. If you join a CoF run for example, your purpose as a thief would be to deal as much damage as possible to minimize the time it takes to kill the bosses. Now thieves can do a substantial ammount of damage, but warriors can simply do even more damage, and add party-wide damage output with banners and FGJ. So the party leader’s options would be, keep this thief or replace him for a warrior who is going to be a bigger contribution to the team and make the run go just that bit faster and smoother?

So my point is, you can’t blame anyone for wanting to do a quick run where the class you decided to play has no business. If you join a group formed by someone else, you will have to deal with their rules. Make some new characters for example. Put in some effort to be accepted by the “elitist” side of the game. And if you don’t like that, make your own groups. It’s not going to stop and Arenanet can’t do a whole lot about it. They can keep nerfing things, but even then certain party setups will be superior to others.

I was silently hoping for a good fix for precursor prices and/or scavenger hunt for this update. Who am I kidding though, 700g for a precursor is ofcourse completely how it was intended. I’ve been sitting on my 3 gifts since December, waiting for the scavenger hunt and throwing rares into the forge occasionally hoping for a lucky break wich I have never gotten, and never will most likely.

Is this precursor scavenger hunt even being worked on anymore though? All I remember hearing was “Don’t expect it before the March update” and it’s April now. An update on this matter would be appreciated.

I think most of us have kinda come to the point where an expansion would be very welcome. There is so much stuff to expand on in this game though. We currently still have over half of the Tyrian map (The land Tyria, not the planet.) to see, wich could bring an insane ammount of new content to us. Besides that there is Elona, a map that I want to see back in GW2 just as well as Cantha. Also there is a potential for completely new maps since the world is much bigger than just Tyria, Cantha and Elona.

So even if it is going to take years before we will set foot on cantha, there is still so much potential content that could be released in between. I really hope that this game will expand more than GW1 has done (Don’t get me wrong, i loved GW1 for a good 10k hours over 6 years), and even if Cantha may not return in this game, they better give us a mind blowingly awesome alternative.

Why I think you're losing active players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Scyte.2801

I think I can safely say that MMO content is not meant for you and your guild mates.

1. Dungeon content is EASY compared to any other MMO I have played. Fractals is finished on average 45 minutes including jade maw in which I get on average 3-4 rares a run. On the contrary, if they actually made these dungeons even easier, I would probably take it as a joke. In all honesty, they are already borderline way too easy.

2. Gold in this game is quite easily obtained. I am positive you are not using the TP if you cannot amass 20 gold. I can do 20 gold in 2 days if I actually tried (without farming the entire day with no sleep).

3. They are aware of the smaller guilds problem they induced last patch. That is why the next patch in the coming few days is going to introduce training missions which help small guilds amass a lot of influence to climb this wall for guild missions.

Your first point, about fractals being way too easy, is nonsense. It is an end game dungeon that scales up in difficulty. From you saying that you can easily complete a fractals run including the maw in an easy 45 minutes, tells me that you have not been past scale 10 yet, otherwise you can call you and your teammates the gods of gw2, or you simply get 3 quick and easy fractals every time. The difficulty grows as the scales go up higher, making this viable for both hardcore and casual players. Just stick with what difficulty suits you best. I myself have reached up to scale 41, and it’s becoming pretty painfull up there I can tell you, and I’m not really a casual player.

Your 2nd point, gold is indeed fairly easy to get a hold of. 10g on a day of casual playing is fairly easy to reach if you play actively indeed. However, 10g is nothing. This gets you 2 pieces of exotic armor, 1 superior divinity rune. I could go on. I agree to the OP that the gold gain in a casual style of gameplay is too slow to keep up with the skyrocketing economy.
You can ofcourse farm CoF1 all day every day and make an easy 50g a day, but that is not how this game is intended to work.
The main issue with making gold in this game in my oppinion is that everything that makes money, has several downsides.
- For example Fractals and other dungeons require 4 other players, and you basically rely on their availability (If you prefer running with friends/guildies only) and the capability of those players for 80%.
- World bosses only appear on set times, and you can only do them once a day anymore.
- World completion is a 1-time thing, this can’t be done for making good money forever.
- Guild Missions have a weekly limitation.
- Event farming in Cursed Shore is the absolute most boring grind in existence, and this is not how Arenanet wanted us to make money at all.
- Playing the T kitten omething not everyone can do, especially with the 15% tax its not very viable.
- WvWvW doesn’t make a fair ammount of money at all.
- SPvP doesn’t make any money at all (Besides the occasional Dye)

This could be solved by adding more soloable, instanced content, to let players play whenever they want, without having to wait for an event to pop up, without having to gather a couple extra players who you will then rely on for a good part, and just let people play and make money on their own. There are several ways in wich these issues could be dealt with.
An idea that pops up to me is a soloable variant to Fractals, exept with a more consistent flow of money rather than hoping for good drops.
Also WvWvW is on the list to get a complete redo on the rewards system, so I’m curious to see what that’s going to be like. Hope it will be worth doing for the money

Dailies are a punishment to some

Scyte.2801

Still cannot tell if this is a troll thread

In the off chance that it’s not, can you not see that if everything was handed freely to you that the game would get boring very fast?

Here are some other comparisons that might enlighten you to see how ridiculous this is..

1. I do not like farming for gold, but I want to buy a legendary off the TP. It’s not fair for me that I have to have so much gold but do not want to farm gold.

2. I do not like the story, but I want the pact weapon. This should juts be given to me when I log into the game, why do I have to complete the story?

3. It’s not fair that other people who have spent hours completing dungeons have cooler looking armor than me. I want that armor, but i hate dungeons.

4. I want to show off the title that I explored the world of Tyria, but I hate exploring and doing all the heart quests. This title should just be given to me by default.

Maybe this helps?

Let me rephrase the case here. Dailies are by no means part of the “Working hard to earn glorious rewards” You log in and you basically get them thrown at you while you’re playing.

The real issue is though, that you have to log in every day to keep up with the maximum ammount of rewards you can get. Look at it this way:

- Person A plays 24 hours a week, he can only log in 3 times a week and those days he logs about 8 hours of playtime.
- Person B plays only 7 hours a week, 1 hour every day.

These 2 people both really want an Ascended Amulet, this is their primary goal that goes before anything else. Now use common sense and think about what person deserves an Ascended Amulet sooner than the other.
That’s right, person A invests more time in the game and therefore should be rewarded with an Ascended Amulet sooner than person B

In reality though, person B can get his Amulet more than twice as fast!! while playing less than a third of what person A plays! Where is the logic in that?

Right, because you are restricted to 1 daily achievement per day, and can only earn 1 laurel per day, no matter how hard you work, no matter how hard you try. So your post is kind of invalid here.

I personally am really against this reward system. If laurels could only earn cosmetic items, like weapon skins etc, it would be great. Sadly they decided to make this the only way to earn a best-in-slot item.

Dailies are a punishment to some

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Its not a punishment no matter how many rediculous strawman arguments you make. Punishment by definition means;

Punishment (also known as discipline or penalty) is the authoritative imposition of something undesirable or unpleasant on, or the removal of something desirable or pleasant from, a person, animal, organization or entity in response to behavior deemed unacceptable by an individual, group or other entity.

Not doing dailes is not a punishment. Seriously go get a job and try claiming not getting a work related bonus is a punishment. You would get laughed out the bosses office.

Authority: Anet
Imposition of something undesirable: doing daily or be economically disadvantaged ever so slightly.

Conclusion: punishment.

Erm, isn’t the same as saying you don’t have time to run dungeons or do boss events or even play until weekends?

All those activities give more gold per time played then the daily, and using the same exact logic you say about dailies, I could argue that I’m am being imposed of doing something undesirable or be economically disadvantaged thus making it a punishment.

Dailies actually give you more ways to get certain things. It’s just another reward system that you can choose to do or not. Most people do them though because it’s relatively easy compared to most other things.

The major thing is Laurels. Currently the ONLY way to get laurels, is by doing the daily and monthly achievements. Therefore you can get 1 laurel per day, with a bonus 10 per month, giving you 40-41 laurels a month if you do your dailies/monthlies always. There is no way to recover from not being able to do 1 of your dailies, you will fall behind.

I won’t say this is a punishment, but it feels like an obligation to do your dailies. Especially since laurels are the only currency that can get you ascended Amulets, for a massive 30 laurels each. And now for someone like me, who has 8 characters at lvl 80, every daily I miss will add a day to the time when I will have all of my characters geared up with an amulet. There is no way to recover from that by simply playing more another day.

So yeah doing dailies feels like a chore to me. You wake up, you have to do it wether you like it or not, otherwise u’ll have to face the consequences. Remember, this is a game, where we spend our time to relax and enjoy our spare time. It’s not supposed to feel like a job.

I don’t see why rare items shouldn’t be this easy to get.. I only see postives to a huge influx of rare items. Cheaper rares = cheaper ecto’s. Ecto’s are needed in so many recipe’s in such high ammounts that it is just unreasonable for them to be even harder to farm for yourself. Also cheaper rares mean cheaper precursors, because forging rares is one of the more popular and succesfull ways to get a precursor.

So indirectly but truely nerfing the rare drops affects the prices on precursors negatively.

I just don’t see any good in this change at all. People with multiple alts don’t get enough credit for their hard work leveling and gearing multiple characters in terms of extra chances on rewards etc, and we are practically forced to do something other than farming world bosses after we’ve done 1 routine. If there is 1 thing I really hate, it would be being forced to do something other than what I want to do. Multiple patches have had this influence already (Like DR etc) but that doesn’t make this any more acceptable to me.

We can play the game WE want to play it, and always get rewarded for it equally, right?

There always has to be some class to complain about i guess. There have been many complaints about classes being imbalanced/overpowered.
There is the bulls charge frenzy 100b warrior.
There is the D/D ele who doesnt die.
There is the Bunker guardian who doesnt die.
There is the Bunker Engineer who doesnt die.
There is the Mesmer who can run full glass cannon setups and still survive thanks to a combo of clones and stealth.
And than there is the thief who can permastealth.

I’m sure i forgot a whole bunch of “Overpowered” builds.

My point is, a LOT of classes have their “Overpowered” builds. Instead of complaining about each one, embrace each one of them, and be glad that there is a reason to play a certain class. If there would not be anything that is highly efficient (I prefer that term over “overpowered”) than it wouldn’t be that much fun to play at all.

I personally play a Shatter mesmer on a glass cannon setup mostly, and while I probably win 9/10 1v1 situation regardless of what class they play, I have lost to almost every class aswell. Everything can be countered, you just need to know your enemy.

Will the hero system make a comeback?

Not sure if heroes will be the solution but some way to do end-game PvE content completely solo would be most excellent.

Perhaps new dungeons or repeatable missions designed for soloing are a better sollution. I would really like to be able to log on, not have to pray that I have friends enough online and available at that time to do something, not having to hop on a pug and get irritated by ignorant kitty cats, and just be able to go at my own speed and just be able to go afk whenever I desire to do so.

I really hope not. MMORPGs are social games, and socialization and cooperation should be encouraged and even required for some content, like dungeons. GW2 already has a ton of solo content, you can even get the best gear of the game 100% solo. I don’t want fake group mates ruin the group content the game has.

Want to play 100% solo? You have excellent games like Skyrim which are made for that. But if you play in an online world, you will have to accept having to play with others for some content. Be social. It’s rewarding, you may even make a few friends.

Team play should deffinitly be encouraged and should have priority. However, right now the only solo content there is is map completion and personal story. This is a journey that will come to an end very fast. Soloable content outside of team based content would not hurt players who are all-in for teamplay, and would make players like me who do like to play solo on the off hours or whatever very happy.

About elitism in MMOs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scyte.2801

Scyte.2801

“Elitism is the belief or attitude that some individuals, who form an elite — a select group of people with a certain ancestry, intrinsic quality or worth, higher intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes — are those whose influence or authority is greater than that of others; whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight; whose views or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities, or wisdom render them especially fit to govern.1”-wiki

Elitism rears its ugly head in every MMO Ive ever played. Players who view themselves as elitists seem to get more enjoyment in some hierarchical competition where they vie for top spot, parameters such as best gear, world firsts, timed instance runs and such.

They suck the fun out of groups with rude behavior usually with name calling and nasty tells in an attempt to belittle a person they deem inadequate. Ive always thought it was hilarious and a little sad that someone plays a game like GW2 as a job and ties real self esteem to an imaginary world where you actually dont accomplish anything tangible.

Some people are compelled to make whatever they do a rat race environment as if everyday life outside of Tyria wasnt bad enough. I came to the conclusion (after repeated contact with these ’Elitist" players) that A.) these people in general spend an inordinate amount of time playing video games. This itself more than any other factor leads to real mental and physical health problems in turn these people grow frustrated with other people they encounter in game that are not as experienced and therefore not as competent as they are due to real life time constraints.

If your playing a MMO like its a full time job (with overtime) of course your going to blow through the content and become bored very fast and behave in an antsy and agitated way when you are grouped with players who prehaps are new to the game or play a lot less than you.

The only way to be satisfied is find other full time GW2 players and start an All-Star guild leave the other segments of the game alone. Ive seen the elitist, MMO addicted, hardcore player base destroy communities with basically what amounts to bullying. Im led to believe that these people are very sad lonely individuals who enjoy feeling superior in a game that’s supposed to be for fun in one’s leisure time.

Remember next time someone starts whining, belittling you or acting irrational, they have probably been sitting in front of their monitor for 8-hours plus and have a very distorted view of the world.

I don’t agree with this completely. You are implying that every player who plays tremendous ammounts of hours into this game has psycholigical problems and therefore become in-game bullies towards players who can’t or don’t want to play the same hours.

I would consider myself to be “A notch above the rest” and this has multiple reasons. For 1, I play this game like a full time job, like you said. Maybe even more. That is however not because I have any psychological or social problems. Instead of going out with friends and have a beer, I preffer to play an online game with friends.
Also I have had the convenience of playing with highly motivated and intelligent players, wich helped in ways of for example learning from each other.

Coming from an environnement of “Elitist” players, I think I have a fairly accurate sense of how and what.

Elitist players don’t nececarily have psychological or social distortions that drives them to become good at a game and become irritated at everyone who doesn’t live up to their level of play. (Some do, sure, but not even close to all of them)
When an elitist player critisizes a group for a poor performance, it is usually because something has gone wrong multiple times, and someone has been trying to explain what is going on and what needs to be done to complete the instance, followed by people simply not listening and/or not caring. This can get irritating, because the entire team has to pay money out of their own pockets to repair their armor, and sometimes people don’t expect a run to take as long as they end up taking, wich is messing with their plans or they simply won’t have time to finish the run.
You should almost ask yourselves if the issue is the elitists being rude, or the newbs being ignorant. Either one of those boosts the opposing one.

Anyways this is just my view on this topic from personal experience, when I go on pug runs myself, I expect runs to not go as quick as I’d like, I just follow around and don’t really say anything besides some constructive advice here and there when it feels appropriate to do so.

Am I the only one to find that Fractal scales 1-9 offer better rewards than 10-19, 10-19 offers better rewards than 20-29, and 20-29 offers better rewards than 30-39?

In other words, the higher up you go the worse your drops will be. I have kept track of this for a while now, and in scales 0-9 i usually get 1-2 rares from each chest, a fair number of cores and/or lodestones and a good ammount of T6 materials, wich only seems to decrease as the scales go up… In 30+ I’m only seeing blues and greens from chests, VERY occasionally a rare, and god forbid I get a core or lodestone. My average profit on my 30+ runs? About 60s-2g. (Includes merching and selling rares/cores etc on the TP)

Guesting is Coming

I have question for all of you unhappy people:

If you have so many friends you want to play with in EU and NA why didn’t you all make accounts in same server when you started playing since time zones are no problem for you?

Or why don’t you all transfer to one server now while it’s still free? Guild influence is not that hard to get.

Don’t blame ArenaNet for your bad planning of your gameplay. They are doing best they can and maybe one day we will have NA/EU guesting, but till then be happy they are trying. No game is perfect and no matter how great professionals one company has it’s impossible to have everything right away.

This is a great game and time it takes to fix stuff and bring new one is shortest possible. Instead of complaining about everything, be more thankful, because if they didn’t try you would have got no game to play today.

Saying that we should all bring our friends to 1 server, would be implying that everyone has 1 tight group of friends with no connections to other, outside people. I don’t know if you realize, but it’s simply not gonna happen that I will get all the european players I’m friends with to switch to an American server, or vice versa. And I’m sure that I’m no exeption on that case.

Arenanet, I beg you to put this server guesting/paid server transfers on a hold once more, and work on a solution for all these people with cross eu/us friends. This is really just burning bridges between eu/us servers.
A possible solution might be allowing people to select 1 server on the opposite region wich they can freely hop between once every 24 hours, 7 days, or at best even no limit at all. In the earlier stages of the game when there was no server switch limit it was possible to switch cross eu/us servers in no time, so I’m not seeing any impossibilities there.

I can’t be less exited now.. At least with free server transfers you could simply hop cross eu/us to play with friends from a different region. Not only can we still not play cross eu/us whenever we desire, we’d also have to pay straight up cash to even switch servers.

I was exited when I heard this was finally coming at first because I was almost certain that it would fix the inability to play cross eu/us. I hope this will get fixed in the future, but reading the blog post I highly doubt it. It’s a shame, since I have a lot of friends on a european server who I will simply never be able to play with.

Game feels incredibly anti-melee.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Scyte.2801

With coordinated team play being a glass cannon melee isnt all that bad. If you have lets say a guardian in your team, he can give your team stability, aegis, protection, healing, all very good skills that are in favor of keeping your glass cannon melees up just long enough to have them deal incredible ammounts of damage. This works on most boss fights in dungeons. Sometimes Melee isn’t viable at all, but every class has acces to a variaty of ranged weapons.
Also a Warrior can for example jump into Melee, dodge the first few attacks, hit endure pain to be invulnerable for 5 seconds, get a 100b in, than swap back to rifle when his HP is getting low, cripple the target and stay at a safe distance again.

Point is, there are many options to make melee work in your favor. After all, melee combat is a good example of high risk, high reward.

What can I say.. Lupicus and Simin are in fact the only 2 bosses in this game that are a real challenge. It reminds me of GW1, Underworld, Gate of Anguish, to name 2 elite area’s that were incredibly fun, yet incredibly difficult to finish without a very specifically thought-through party setup. On top of that, if your party wiped, or failed at certain events, you get sent back to town and get to start over again. This is what I defined as fun and challenging end-game content. This is what me and many friends have been doing for years, and not because it was profitable (Exept for DoA) but because it was fun!
I’d deffinitly like to see Elite Area’s return in GW2, where you simply can’t expect to finish the area and grab your loots on your first time in there.

Anyways, my point is, Lupicus and Simin are good healthy challenges. They stress you out at first, and the exitement is great when you finally manage to kill them after an hour (Or sometimes even longer) of trial and error.

This has happened to a ton of other people as well, so I demand a compensation for those that were excluded out of their rewards because of server issues.

You NEED to make a statement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scyte.2801

Scyte.2801

If Anet was bound to all of the statements they made pre-release, they would never be able to organically evolve the design over time. I’m sorry, but that’s just not now MMOs work. The best possible situation for players is that the company behind the MMO takes data constantly and adapts the design over time to give us all new goals to strive for, new rewards to accumulate, new content to explore, etc.

This is partically true, however, if you have played GW1, you would know that the lack of a gear grind is part of what made the game so succesfull, and kept people interrested in the game for years. In my case, I have played it for almost 10k hours over a 6 year period.

If they would have stayed with their initial goal, to create a full MMO version of a game where grinding is optional even if you want to get the best gear in the game, this would have raised a lot less complaints and down the long road people will still be playing this game.

What this game needs is more competitive/high end PvE (For example, the elite area’s in GW1), and less gear grinds. People will keep playing a game if the content is enjoyable to a point where you can keep doing it forever, and see progression all along. You don’t need a gear treadmill for that.

You NEED to make a statement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scyte.2801

Scyte.2801

They NEED to make a statement, why exactly? They’ve already made a statement — both in what you call a “convoluted” blog post, and here in the forums.

I assume you’re talking about the ascended tier and the fear of them adding more in the future. It’s a baseless fear, as they have already made “Legendaries” which are an insanely long grind for most players and laid out in the game as the ultimate achievement. They’re not going to be able to make gear which has higher stats and is perceived as a better reward than those items, so they are naturally capped in how much they can add.

Ascended gear is really much like resistance gear in other MMOs anyway — a set of gear which you accumulate to counter a specific mechanic.

Exept having a Legendary didn’t give you any sort of advantage besides looking awesome.

Ascended gear though, has better stats, and the fact that resistance gear exists in other MMO’s gives it even more reason to not go down that road. So if you want to get the absolute best out of dungeons for example, you NEED to have ascended gear, no way around it. It’s just sad to see that Anet is leaving what everyone loved about GW1 behind, and follows up with the hundreds of hours of boring grind for the best gear in the game, wich COMPLETELY contradicts their initial statements before the release of the game.

Saying that TA is one of the easiest, it’s obviously trolling.

However, it’s not that difficult as the OP says, you just need to master the dungeon, which may require more runs that, let’s say, CoF or AC

After having done every path in every dungeon (With the exeption of Seers path Arah where we didn’t get past simin on our 1 and only try) I can pretty much confirm that TA is in fact one of the easier dungeons. The wurm is easy once you know how to handle it, just give it a few runs and try to adapt your approach to it, and it will be a cakewalk soon enough. And Vevina is really all about stopping attacking when you’re confused, and rez downed allies as soon as you can.

Trinkets for Dungeon tokens

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Scyte.2801

Scyte.2801

One thing that I kinda want to see in dungeons, is trinkets as items you can buy from the dungeon merchants. Reason being is that Arenanet kind of said that you can play the game the way you want to play it and still get geared up in the highest tier gear. To me trinkets are also considered to be part of your gear, and I would love to see more reasons to keep doing dungeons after you have completed your armor/weaponsets. Basically I feel that obtaining exotic trinkets requires you to either empty your bank, or go farm for a couple days to craft them, or do lots and lots of WvW to get them. I don’t find any of these options appealing enough to get all of my character beefed up in full exotics, as I have other plans like T3 cultural armor etc.

I basically don’t see any reason not to implement this as a dungeon reward, but feel free to discuss why it wouldn’t be reasonable.

What would you prefer, having an open beta for several months so people can beta test the end-game content, just for it all to get wiped afterwards? Don’t be silly.
I would muuuuuch rather play a game that is still in the process of refinement than to beta test all the content in the game for a few months and then get it all wiped before release.

This is a typical example of “Overhyping” a game. You expect more than Arenanet could offer you. If you can’t live with bugs, quit playing for now and come back within a couple months when most major bugs etc are fixed.

A suggestion to correctly fix this issue would be the following:

The only way to solo CoF in under 20 minutes is by exploiting bugs. Skipping almost all of the content and going straight for the boss room. I know that that’s possible because a friend of mine duo’d CoF in 7 minutes. How would you do the bomb collecting room for example? How would you kill that prison warden, the nests, the run-around-for-2-minutes room, and all of that within 20 minutes, solo? If it’s exploited its not legit.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Scyte.2801

I’d like to remind you on something you might not yet be aware of. This is only a part of GW2 we’re playing right now. Anet is working on tons of new content in expansions. There are still 2 maps of wich I’m 99% sure they will come back in later expansions, Elona and Cantha. Also there seem to be a lot of gates and portals that lead to places that look like playable area’s, but are just not yet available to acces (yet). In other words, a LOT of content has yet to arrive.

So yeah, lots of stuff to anticipate, lots of stuff to do, you just got to find your own way in this game. Check out the achievements tab, find some stuff that might interrest you, set your goals, and most importantly, find a guild that shares your interrests in this game.

To give an example; what I’m working on right now is getting all 8 professions to level 80 and get them geared in full exotic gear before any expansions come out. I do my daily dose of dungeons for the nice chunk of XP and the tokens so I can get geared up for very little cost. And whenever I’m bored of PvE, I just jump into some sPvP and get my glory rank up.
If I manage to get done with character development before any expansions get released there are still the Legendary weapons wich occupy you for quite a couple hours
