learn mechanics and try again
unless there is a bug for you it should be doable
Canach is bugged often atm with invulnerability
so choose Braham and Caithe

Use Staff CC to stop the firstborn (Icefield!, Static and also Shaking ground)
arcane wave can also kill them with 0 casttime aoe once they are close you can hit multiple at once
cast meteorshower on paletree before they enter radius for it so you damage paletree and kill firsborn at same time

i played with both offensive arcane skills for extra dmg on full zerk build
with fire/air/arcana
your dmg is high enough then to kill those firstborn very quickly so it makes it easier

your third utility can be stability to be able to cast meteorshower even when the pale tree interrupts so often

apart from that it is all about clever positioning i guess

and i prefer an actually challenging ENDFIGHT
so im happy they didnt make it easier

soon enough it will be too easy when people get used to the boss mechanics…

I tried the same strategy, which usually works in places like the lanes in the Silverwastes and so on.

However, I got an interrupt-beam from the pale tree every 1 or 2 seconds, rendering me unable to even cast the ice field. And that was before it even got stacks.

What intervall of interrupts did you get?

I believe the interrupt to be range based. If you get close to her it just does damage.

With the change to the megaserver, the reduced cost of elite specs, and the fact masteries are account bound you can probably grind out the spec on an alt in a few hours. If you can’t spare a few hours to play an alt, why even have an alt?

To my knowledge, HoT will only have an effect on low level play if you’re doing pvp where you get bumped to 80 anyway.

It was stated (in a poi I think) when they announced the revenant underwater skills that only shiro and mallyx were ported over. They have intentions of converting the rest, but it will come in time.

Has anyone else run into an issue where the passive effects on glint will deactivate themselves every couple seconds? I’m not sure if it’s time based or action based. This has happened to me twice since unlocking glint (once in verdant brink during the control panel hero point and once in a random place in tangled depths while doing the story). I’m not sure what is causing is, but swapping legends seems to fix the issue. I know this probably sounds a bit vague, but I will try and figure out what is going on and update this thread if I’m successful.

Other than the occasional FPS do any PC games even have VOIP? I’ve yet to hear of an MMO that has one.

WoW had a very terrible voip which nobody ever used. It may still be there, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Blizz swept it under the rug.

My biggest concern is that launch is 4 weeks away and other than Raids (which I have no interest in), they’ve not yet given a single reason to actually buy this expansion at these price points since everything else in it is stuff that they have been giving us for free for the last 3 years.

Wait for bw3 to test the changes before saying the legend is “gutted.” If it feels weak while playing, it will be fixed, but you can’t know how it will work 100% without playing it.

I played mallyx extensively to know this is a huge hit. It was my favorite legend, and I clocked in 60 hours of revenant last weekend. EtD was that one skill that you wouldn’t use very often but when you did it was devastating. It literally had one role and it did that perfectly, and it was also the main flavor of the legend as well as the whole point of its design: “take condis, spread them back”.

It’s like removing quickness from shiro’s impossible odds, you now just have an upkeep that gives super speed. Wow, fun!

I am gonna be trying my absolute best to make the devs reconsider such huge change.

I have not clocked as many hours on Mallyx as you have, and you have the right to refute everything I’m about to say, but please listen. I agree that the flavor of Mallyx has been sullied, but I also agree with Roy’s thought process behind it. I quite enjoyed 1v1 against condi heavy classes, but most of my time in Mallyx was during team fights. I run with several people who slot a lot of condi removal. Mallyx, to me, felt as though I was fighting both the enemy AND my own teammates. All in all, I feel the changes to Embrace the Darkness could be a step in the right direction, but they will need to be tested and, if underpowered (which it seems to be now), tuned properly by either adding new condis to the mix (maybe poison to further increase the use of Venom Enhancement) or increasing the stacks of torment applied. As I see it, all that’s been lost is a lot of flavor. Roy has been very kind to us these past few months, and seems to have the Revenants best interests at heart, so I trust him to tune Mallyx once we’ve all had a chance to test the changes and see how they stand in game.

HoT is definitely trying to add some semblance of end game. In terms of awesome fun masteries, I feel the system is set up to allow cool new things, but it’s anyone’s guess where anet will take the system in the future.

I don’t know where you’re getting your information, but we have no idea how long the story will be. There may only be 4 maps on release, but they are probably going to take us back into vanilla zones as well.

After running Glint and Roiling Mists for a while, I noticed the tooltip for Facet of Darkness shows 40% crit chance, but the actual stack of fury only shows 20%. Looking at my hero panel, it probably is giving 40%, but I’m also don’t if the stats get pulled from your active boons or from the values on your hero. Has anyone been able to confirm that Roiling Mists is giving the full 100% increase or is this just a tooltip bug?

I ran glint in vb for a couple hours without the f2 and loved it. After the f2 was patched I was even more baffled. I love being able to buff my combat prowess outside of combat by stacking long duration ferocity and might when using the f2. Once combat starts I pop my actives and blow everything up. It’s great imo. Also, thank you Roy for giving us some swiftness.

Herald feels like it encourages passive play.

Yeah I love the heal, you just got to remember the double use (i never use the passive in combat) else you find yourself dead and wondering “wtf happened”

Just don’t get the idea of jumping off a cliff thinking the heal will cancel out the fall damage! Roy made it so that the heal can’t be activated while mid-air :P

That’s probably for the best, but kitten the heal is good. Brought me from the brink of death to nearly full as I ran through the fire after getting knocked back by the wyvern.

Please explain to me which race teaches me how to hang glide.

I’ll give you that there are similar aspects to reputations present in the mastery system, but you’re picking out individual masteries and claiming the entire system follows that same format.

My major issue with "hard content"

Seeing from any mmo in the past, and how this one is structured I see it taking well over an hour at a time for casual players to complete these raids. I fear it’s going to involve way to many people trying to be hardcore, talking down to players, kicking players who are trying to get this done.

Here’s the good thing about raids in gw2: The rewards will not be better than rewards from playing other content. They may be shinier, but they will not give your character the advantage gained from raiding in other mmos.

While it does bum me out that some people will probably not be able to experience this content due to time constraints, my experience with raiding in other games tells me this will probably not last forever. As more people learn the fight mechanics clear times on the raids will drop making raids more accessible if you can find the group.

Lastly, and this is pure speculation, anet could implement a lockout system similar to other mmos. Since there won’t be a direct enhancement to your character from raiding, this lockout could exist until the player decided to reset it. This would allow a player to gather a few friends and take a swing at some bosses without having to worry about the instance resetting when they zone out.

All in all, I trust anet to make raids something enjoyable and accessible to as many people they can while still keeping them difficult.

Challenge group content deal breaker

With the rate of how this is going, the challenging group part bit will be a deal breaker for me. As it stands i will not make the expansion purchase, unless the so-called pleases me, otherwise i’ll stick with the base game, heck i log in destiny from time to time without any expansion, so Anet better bring an ace in kitten with this. So considering how people can datamine stuff is there any leads?

TLDR: Is there any insight on what Challenging group content will be?

As long as you’re fine receiving very few content updates, nobody is forcing you to buy the expac. As of right now CGC is getting so hyped that it will probably not meet your standards. Regardless of how the CGC turns out, future living world seasons and new maps added will likely be gated behind the expac.

A lot of people seem to be forgetting that the content coming at launch will not be the entirety of the new content. Unless someone can show me an mmo with an expansion model which releases all expac content at once, I don’t see why everyone is complaining so much. I just hope you won’t start complaining about content drought for vanilla players just because you’re trying to prove your point.

As it stands right now, a revenant using the maximum DPS setup can’t even out damage a Phalanx Strength warrior (who provides a ton of group utility that the revenant can’t come close to matching) in an organized group.

Where are you getting your information. The Revenant hasn’t even been tested yet since the buffs/Shiro were added.

Impossible Odds does not give swiftness. It gives quickness and super speed. Also, It’s an upkeep skill so these buffs will be present as long as you have the energy to maintain it. I don’t see the issue here.

I think all of this fighting has scrambled everyone’s brains. Nobody is making any sense anymore. Now, can we all just wait for the beta weekend to actually test the changes? Nobody can possibly give the devs any constructive feedback on the class changes until we get our hands on it to see how it plays.

What are the alternatives?

  • They release HoT early, without playtesting.
  • They release HoT even earlier, without doing any QA.
  • They release HoT early, by removing features.

In that context, no, it’s not taking “too long” — it’s taking just the right amount of time.

And when they release they’d better have an extremely good vertical progression through the very few maps within HoT x-pac (this is the impression they passed)

They have not announced how many maps will be released. How can you say there will be “very few maps?”

An idea to fix weapons on a per legend basis

Before you continue to read this, I would not consider myself a veteran of this game by any means. Though I’ve played since launch, it’s been mostly casual and with occasional very long breaks. That said, I feel the aesthetic of the revenant is in a very good place (I plain on swapping to rev as my main come HoT for this reason alone). I love the way this class feels, but I’m sure we all can agree it has problems currently.

As you all know, it seems each of these weapon sets has been designed with a particular legend in mind. I love this concept, but it does beg the question of why we’re allowed to swap legends but not weapons. Rather than simply adding in a weapon swap as some of you have requested (I’ve never liked the idea of swaps anyway. Where do we keep all of these spare weapons?) we could simply change the weapon abilities based on the currently slotted legend similarly to attunements on an elementalist. This is also the wrong approach I feel. The devs have the right idea with these weapons, but the wrong implementation in my opinion.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems weapons in this game have always been created to fill some role in a class, and to the revenant it seems weapons and legends are synonomous. We should not be adapting weapons to a legend, but rather enhancing all legends based on weapon choice while taking into account the legend it’s tied to. For example, take some of the conditions off of Mallyx’s weapon set and instead give the “legendary demon stance” a passive effect to apply condition x on every xth weapon skill (or something similar. I’m sure you get the idea.). Additionally, your weapon set would further amplify your current legends stance by adding another different effect (did you equip the staff of Ventari? Have 25% increase to your healing output or something.) The effects given by the weapon should reflect the legend it’s tied to in some way so you can slot the weapon you want to play with to the legends you want to run without feeling like you’re completely gimping yourself. This could lead to metas such as a “tanky Mallyx” or “supportive Shiro.”

Bear in mind this is just the start of a real idea. I hope some of the more experienced members of our community would be able to take this idea and run with it. I would love to hear your thoughts on this (or you can rip it to shreads if you want. It’s just my two cents based on the direction I want to see the revenant taken.) I’m also not claiming this should be the only enhancement but could at least add a bit of customization to a class which could use a bit more.
