Only an engineer can blow themselves up and NOT take damage.

Only an engineer has more ways to knock themselves backward but not forward.

Only an engineer like me would cap a keep wearing pink armor.

I’ve been getting those myself. I usually delete them for the obvious reasons (scammer, hidden virus, etc.) and it’s a good idea to NEVER open them because you never know what can happen. Simply put: know your senders and don’t open a message if you’re not sure about it.

FT is iffy in wvw imo. It’s useful for burning down “downed” enemies via napalm but outside of that it does have much use. I mostly use the elixir gun in wvw since it’s more consistent than FT (better range, bleeds, snares, weakness, heals, and acid bomb to get some distance).

Healer engineer

Healing power is not useless at all. The kind of engineer I play is called a Kit Cat since I use an assortment of weapon kits (med kit included). I use full apothecary armor (rare) which offers toughness, condition damage and healing power. Since my healing power is higher than my condition damage I use superior runes of the undead to compensate for the difference. The suit alone alone with a decent support build allows me to not only keep myself up but the party as well.

The reason I use apothecary armor is to maximize bleeds and poisons while my med kit and super elixir from the elixir gun make up the healing. As for a weapon it’s personal preference but I use a rifle since I usually do WvsW on a somewhat regular basis.

Here’s the build I use for my engie:

With plenty of practice you can either keep a dungeon party or a WvsW zerg up to finish the fight.

Why not just change MF to increased gold from monsters? With the exchange rates as they are from farmers and bots, it’s a pain to afford anything on TP. Before the “learn to farm” replies come in let me say this, I’m familiar with farming but MF is pretty much useless from what I see. Most of my gold, which isn’t much btw, comes from completing dungeons and selling excess mats I don’t use.

TLDR version: Change MF to GF to offset inflation on TP.

Engineers- Why we are subpar

in Engineer

When looking at the engineer, you need to consider the following

1. We have no weapon swapping
2. We use “kits” that have toolbelt skills. These kits take up a utility slot
3. A large majorty of the toolbelt skills aren’t incredible good or have long CDs
4. Turrets are immobile and large cooldowns.
5. Two of our elites are useless when compared to the third
6. A majority of our DPS is close range (bomb kit, FT, Rifle). Our lack of weaponswapping to account for people who kite with range makes it a very big handicap.
7. We have very little high single target dps. Our once main DPS spec, nades, were range AoE targets. Those in constant motion were difficult to kill
8. We use medium armor. This is quite the handicap because our class is mostly close range. Unlike the thief, we do not have the same amount of great escapes. Our escapes often come at a price. (Rocket shoes knock you down)

These are some of the biggest issues with engineer right now. The recent balances and nerfs dont seem to take these things into account. I can’t even use bomb kit in WvW, which is quite sad. If i get in close I get downed very quickly. I could use my elixer S to buy me some time, but its not nearly enough.

Here’s my response to your list:

1. Doesn’t worry me, master your weapon to master yourself.
2. If you can’t handle it, play another profession. Most engineers know how to work around handicaps.
3. Time your abilities on a cycle so you always have a trick up your sleeve. They aren’t meant to be overpowering, just supplemental to your current skills.
4. Turrets are meant to be something that assist the engineer or the group. Placement is key during battles. If you don’t like it, use something else such as elixirs.
5. Supply Drop is handy for additional DPS and heals. Mortar has uses in Wv3. The racial elites are subjective to the situation at hand.
6. Engineers are short/mid range combatants. Most offensive abilities have decent range so you don’t have to get up close and personal.
7. Try utilizing poisons, bleeds, and other forms of condition damage to win a fight. You don’t need raw damage to fight and that mentality is going to cripple you.
8. See #6: If you’re on top of an enemy and he/she is kicking your kitten, then you’re obviously not playing to your strengths. Granted Overcharge Shot knocks you on your butt, it knocks the enemy back considerably to give you breathing room. That’s what most or all of engineer escapes do, give you breathing room in a fight.

I hate to be the one who says “L2P” but the point is you may have to re-evaluate how you play your profession. Engineers in my opinion are mid-range support dps, very handy if you know what you’re doing. If you want to be in someone’s face, warrior and guardian work just fine in that category.

Being able to survive in a battle and help a group as good as a guardian. You can’t just throw in the towel after a nerf. If you depended on just grenades instead of other weapons and abilities hen your just a weak little kitten just waiting to be kicked around.

I currently use full Dwayna on my guardian and I’ll admit it keeps me alive in tough fights better than my other suit. Although the stats on the Melandru set is not bad either if you’re looking at taking hits like a beast.

Turrets without a CD if you pick them up > 50% CD if you blow it up > Full CD if they are destroyed.
With that said; no turret should have more than a 30s CD.

I agree on this, there should be some leniency when you pick it up or blow it up to defeat an enemy.

How about an exosuit similar to the dredge mining suit with unique combat abilities?

- Target lock: Target(s) within current line of sight get Weakness(5 stacks for 5 seconds).
- Lock & Load: Might and Retaliation for 5 seconds.
- Barrage: Fire a group of missiles at a target location. (AoE damage + Burning)
- Re-enforced Armor: Increased armor/damage reduction for 5 seconds
- Self Destruct: Destroy the suit. (AoE damage + Knockback)

It would be interesting to see to say the least.

And so do you. Listen, the fact that we are all in Tier 6 indicates that we are all somewhere on the spectrum of pretty terrible. And that’s OK. But chest-thumping and getting all bent our of shape about it is like a trio of fat kids arguing over who is the fastest.

Fat kid #1 (Borlis Pass): We are the best!!! Kneel before Zod!!!!
Fat kid #2 (Anvil’s Furnace): You only won because you got new sneakers, also we weren’t really trying.
Fat kid #3 (Sorrow’s Furnace): Listen guys, I’m going to go eat some pie, you in?

We are all fat kids, own that kitten.

The last part cracked me up Amiable. I agree with what you’re trying to convey. Win or lose, just be cool and move on to the next adventure.

Love the list and agree with all of them even if i haven’t encountered them all myself. The lack of scaling for some traits leaves much to be desired.
- Strength in numbers: +30 toughness to you and your allies

- 30 toughness is worthless once you are 80 in full exotics. Why waste and entire trait on providing such minimal protection.

- This trait should scale with lvl or with the guardians own toughness giving a % the guardians owns toughness to allies. Flat rate values become lack luster at max level.

What it should be is that the guardian gets either “+30 toughness for each ally in group” which is an extra 120 toughness or “+30% toughness when in a group” which would become OP and get nerfed. Short version: devs need to look at that ability. It has potential to be good but it’s useless at higher levels unless you stack it with a defense banner from a warrior. Well that’s my 2 copper on the discussion.

Why not try a support build that helps the group rather than helping yourself? My guardian is specced and geared to where I can alternate between tank and support and any given time. Granted that eats up some of my inventory space but it’s worth it.

When I run support my passive heals keep most of the people with me in wvw up a majority of the time. I use Signet of Mercy with Stand Your Ground, Hold The Line, and Tome of Courage for the more intense fights. Yet I don’t do much damage with this setup but it keeps the group going and that’s what matter to me more honestly.

If you’re going with just damage that’s a different story. I use a full exotic knight’s set where I alternate between Hammer and Staff, but if you’re use weapon/shield that might explain why fights haven’t gone your way.

Aside from knowing your guardian’s strengths and weaknesses you must also know where and when it is the best place to fight your battles. Picking off stragglers is all well and good but they could also be a decoy luring you into a trap.
