Level 6 dye reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Alkonium.9164

When you reach level 6, you get to choose between one of three dyes as a reward, along with the tutorials and whatnot. Unfortunately, it’s always the same three dyes. By the time I had a second character reach level 6 since the NPE, I had already unlocked all three choices on my account. Would it be possible in a future update to tweak this reward so it offers a randomly generated choice of three dyes the player hasn’t already unlocked instead of a static three dyes?

Really? I mean, really really?

Honest question time. What part about bundle items was so confusing? Was it combat? Was it having a bunch of new skills when you picked up something? Or maybe the sparkles on the ground for bundle items was too distracting?

I’m trying really hard to even fathom what kind of confusion you might get from diving goggles. They’re not in combat locations, you only get two skills. They’re not even abundant in low level areas, so they can’t be that distracting (unless you walk into a city).

But new characters are simply told “you cannot use that item now.”

Sup all,
i just unlocked the hylek-collection and looked up what weapons i need in order to complete it. all of them can be crafted – nice, so i wanted to do so.

saw i need some sun beads, never heard of it, looked it up. i can get them at a karma vendor for 21 karma/ea, no problem, got 2.000.000 karma i don’t need.

so i just went for that vendor to buy my sun beads, just did a quick calculation about how many to get – 1500 (!) for all weapons!

since u can buy items only one at a time in gw2 i srsly have to klick the “buy” button 1500 times?!?! what is this crap? beside the fact that i didn’t plan to buy a new mouse in the next days, my finger really hurts now and i haven’t even bought half of what i need! i can relly understand now why ppl use klick-macros…

what about a feature to buy more than 1 item from npc-vendor at a time? i’m pretty sure, sun beads aren’t the only item, what you can only get from karma-vendors and you need in masses for whatsoever. the current system just a) sucks and b) hurts (my finger… argh!)

For the past week or so I have been playing a lot of GW2 and having tons of fun. I have 5 characters, 3 of them around level 20. I enjoyed the challenge of the game, and the ability to go where I wanted, and level how I wanted. With this update, the game feels terribly linear. So many cool, unique things that were in the game are not blocked off for me. I’ve tried playing since the update, but I jsut done feel it’s worth my time anymore. I’ll check back in a few months to see if anything has changed. This may seem overdramatic, but really, I’m just not having fun leveling my new characters anymore, and if I cant have fun, what’s the point of playing a game? Congratulations, anet, you’ve lost one of your newest, enthusiastic players. Which I believe was the complete opposite effect of what this update was supposed to bring.

Wasted potential and terrible handling

Let me ask one question as well – what the hell is going on with you?!
A quick state of the game:
Content-wise:

  • PvE – open-world content has never been more boring. There has been no valuable content here outside of Tequatl revamp. Living story – most of it are instances that you do once or twice. Permanent, but worthless replayability-wise. Dungeons – buried under the sands of oblivion.
  • WvW – 5 months of work are bringing golem mastery and a new trick&trap. There is a new colour for commander icons.
  • PvP – no new modes, no new maps, broken matchmaking, Skyhammer, atrocious ‘balance’.
Summary: where is the ‘expansion-worth of content’?

Rewards-wise:

  • PvE – open-world – nerfed over and over (Segnor Blix sends hello from his coffin). Living story – opening achievement boxes is fun… until you see the contents. Dungeons – grinding same paths for two years now.
  • WvW – Colin said we would see a lot more precursors with the new reward system back when the rank system was introduced. Guess he meant something else. Also – playing WvW can actually make you lose money.
  • PvP – reward tracks are nice, but still not close to PvE.
Summary: 2 blues and a green. Bloodstone dust. Even 10.000 champion boxes can’t help.

Now where exactly is the problem?
Everywhere. Literally all you’re doing is wrong.
You introduce content that people do not want and reject to bring back things that players love. When asked about it, you hide behind petty excuses instead of answering openly. You neglect the feedback and keep people in the dark. The communication management ranges from poor to straight unprofessional. Your game has long ago become boring, stale and unrewarding. Things that are important to your players are apparently not important enough to you. It looks horrible from the outside. Where are all the people that made this game such a great success? Where are all the Lead Designers? Are they out same as Robert Hrouda, Martin Kerstein and Kate Welch?

People have been telling you their feelings about the state of the game everyday for the past 48 months and all you give them is ‘maybes’.

How to waste huge potential by getting fixated on doing the wrong and rejecting to do the right.

What an amazing time it has been! Let’s recap.

There was a company that made a video game. The game was promised to be everything before it was launched. On release, it was a lot, but not everything. What pushed it most to fulfilling its potential was its amazing community. What kept this community together was a promise of improvement from the company. It kept the community playing, even though it wasn’t always rationally justified.

A year passed. Things improved. [Redacted] The company kept promising that it was learning from all these experiences, that it will keep pushing the game forward and improve it. The community was even engaged in discussions about the game development.

Time kept passing. Some promises were kept, some weren’t. No one complained about it. The community just wanted to know that things were coming and months spent on completing mundane daily activities in a stale game would pass with the coming of a new fantastic content.

At some point the communication provided by the company dropped in quality and quantity. Even then, the community continued playing, but months kept passing and passing. It was close to the games second anniversary, when things changed…

Let’s recap the most recent history.
With the past two weeks the company’s handling of recent events has consecutively hit new lows.

First came the gamescom. The PvP event has seen some developers of the company being asked questions about the game in general. The company has obvious policies regarding outside communication and the answers provided during gamescom interviews were well in line with these policies. That was the first mistake. Not only has the company agreed to giving interviews on topics it couldn’t discuss, it also delegated improper people to do it.

The community didn’t like what it saw. It didn’t like for example, that content that was made available in the past that the community absolutely loved wasn’t coming back anytime soon. It also didn’t like the tone of poor responses that not only wouldn’t explain why things weren’t being worked on, but also sounded like excuses.

Something ticked, the head and founder of the company decided to grace the community with a letter that tried to explain the situation. Instead of showing willingness to improve, the rhetoric suggested a total negligence and denial, duplicating the well-known interview political talk. Something inside the company was shaken though and the community has seen a sudden wake-up of few developers. One of them for example, decided to hop into a 4-month-old topic with concerns about a recently implemented system and acknowledge the community he would look into it again. How splendid… In another topic, someone else came back and reassured the community, that he would talk to them again. Would things finally come to normal…?

Tensions dropped as the days passed, but then… another interview happened. Once again were the developers asked questions. The community learned for example, that one of the oldest and most important systems that was in dire need of changes to make the game more appealing and keep sworn fans playing wasn’t being looked into for the past year and no plans to change that were made. The community was once again reminded of things that weren’t off the table and were a subject of revision down the road, down the pipe.

Prediction: Why Rytlock Failed

I have a sneaking suspicion we need Rurik himself to fix this, and the sword was fully aware of that, opening a portal to the underworld because it is trying to return to its rightful owner. So within the next few weeks we will travel there ourselves to get Rytlock back, only to meet Rurik, who will probably mention the PC’s similarities to the GW1 PC, and help us. Of course this also means we have to probably make a deal with Grenth to get this done, and there’s no telling what he’ll want in exchange.

They should also add an option to “always deposit to bank”, it’s really annoying to keep having to click the “deposit to bank” (that’s 2 clicks btw) when you’re opening stacks of lootbags and your bags constantly fill up.

I have been a developer on AAA titles and specifically, MMOs. This article is less about criticizing ANet and more about them making the game more fun.

RNG is bad for MMOs. Here’s why:

1) RNG as implemented fosters player rancor.
I post that I haven’t found an item after opening 100 chest, someone else post they found it in the 2nd chest and they don’t see a problem.

2) RNG as implemented isn’t fair.
Nope, life ain’t fair. GW2 is not life, it is a game. It is entertainment. Frustration is not fun.

3) RNG as implemented isn’t fun.
Putting a desirable item behind RNG is a recipe for making people frustrated. Something that always drops is meaningless; something that never drops causes frustration. A balance must be struck.

4) RNG as implemented is illogical.
People who want the item do not get it. People who don’t want the item do. Since items cannot be sold in the trading post, this again creates frustration.

GW2 would be a better game and more fun if:

1) Allow rare drops to be sold. Remove account binding.

2) Improve the chance of a rare item drop the more a person tries to get it. I suspect ANet will say they can’t do this due to “technical limitations”.

3) Sell rare drops in the trading post for gems. People with money can buy the drop; people who have oodles of time/will can hunt for it. Please don’t hypocritically say rare things should be special, and then let people buy/sell “legendaries”.
RNG is fun and entertaining.

Excessive RNG is bad and frustrates players. Frustrated players don’t recommend the game and don’t spend money in the store.

Anyone else....

there that would enjoy more armorvariety than always those weapons? Isn’t the armor something that should be customizable too and not only weapons? I’d highly like it, even if it meant longer time gaps between em. But at the moment all we get are gem costumes that can’t be colored or pieced apart and nothing special…

The logic of "Defiance"

Lots of nice comments here. I, too, have a strong dislike for the Defiant/Unshakable system. Internally we’ve kicked around a lot of ideas about how to change it. The problem is that making large sweeping changes to the game is a bit like moving a table that you built a Jenga™ tower on—it takes time, planning, and a lot of care to do it.

We’ve made big changes before, though. This one is on our list to address.
In the mean time it’s great to see some discussion over alternatives as well as some specific examples where existing alternatives work.

Personally (by which I mean not representing the entire development team) I’d like to see at least one boss with a sort of reverse defiance. Generally immune to CC except in windows during one or two keys attacks with a long warmup. I think the theory behind Defiance would work well if everyone knew exactly when to interrupt. This is a troublesome prospect for the ad-hoc groups that GW2 promotes in various settings, so maybe shifting the responsibility to the boss (which everyone is already paying attention to) would work out a little better. “He’s winding up for super-mega-attack, everyone stun now!”

Removing Aspect Skills with "Swap" Button

in Living World

Lishtenbird.2814

Removing skills from picked up aspects with “weapon swap” button (like any bundle) instead of skill 5 (like tonics) would be very welcome if aspects are going to appear again in the future episodes.

The tonic mechanic was fine in Cliffs where you rarely had to fight and transformation had no time limit, but in both Dry Top and LS where you can pick up (often randomly) respawning aspects by mistake and use them instead of your weapons, it is an annoyance which can lead to you getting downed or jumping/rushing off a cliff to death. Maybe even interacting to get aspects instead of insta-receiving them would’ve been better for a zone full of enemies.

20 level 80s and counting.

Mobs that don't trigger traits

in Living World

Posted by: draxynnic.3719

draxynnic.3719

This is something I’ve noticed becoming increasingly prevalent in updates, and I don’t think it’s being done deliberately.

Many of the traits that have an effect on killing an opponent only trigger if the opponent grants experience (and loot). On release, this was a reasonable state of affairs – enemies that did not were generally too puny to be worth triggering those traits.

Increasingly, though, we’re starting to see more numerous and more powerful opponents who have this characteristic, and it seems to be being done as an anti-farming measure. Most enemies in the Queen’s Pavilion did not grant experience and thus did not count for trait activation, even though some of those enemies were quite dangerous. In the new story instances, I don’t think any of the enemies fought in a story instance granted experience and therefor trait activation – probably to prevent unscrupulous players from grinding the instances for experience and loot.

The problem is that this phenomenon is increasingly making ‘on killing an enemy’ traits rather pointless – I remember one fight in there when I fought two veterans with nothing else in the fight, and killing one of them failed to trigger the Renewed Justice minor trait on my guardian – a trait that is one of the cornerstones of a Radiance-based guardian build in PvE, particularly if combined with other traits focusing on frequent activation of Virtue of Justice. While this is the case that I observed, I would also expect this to have a similar effect on builds in other classes that have made a strong investment in similar traits, such as Triumphant Distortion on the Mesmer and Death Nova on the Necromancer.

I can understand why farming of mobs in a story instance would be something you’d want to discourage, but would it be possible to make it so that mobs in such instances do still trigger on-kill type traits and similar effects?

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

I do dislike the fact that you have plenty of useless levels now. Basically between most later levels, there is absolutely no satisfaction in a level up. Even if it was just a really minor thing, being able to spend a trait point for a minor boost made you feel somewhat stronger.

Now level 67 is just the same as level 68 and 69 and 70 and 71. Sure, you get stronger, but they never show you those numbers anyway.
